The 118 race to the rescues with emergencies at a spin class; in a hair salon and to a husband and wife in a compromising position; Buck discovers new cognitive abilities post lightning strike; Hen and Karen are concerned when they find out Denny has been seeing his biological father behind their backs; Maddie and Chimney enlist Athena and Bobby’s help with a suspicious neighbor in the all-new “New Sensation” episode of 9-1-1 airing Monday, April 10 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (NIN-613) (TV-14 D, L, V)
Cast: Angela Bassett as Athena Grant; Peter Krause as Bobby Nash; Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley; Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley; Kenneth Choi as Howie “Chimney” Han; Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson; Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz; Corinne Massiah as May Grant; Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz

In the 6x13 “Mixed Feelings” sneak peek video, Eddie corrected Chief Miranda Williams about the amount of time Buck was dead after he was struck by lightning in 6x10 “In a Flash”. She said, “So three minutes...huh” and Buck replied, “What’s that?” Then she answered, “That’s how long you were dead” but Eddie corrected her and responded, “Three minutes and seventeen seconds”.
Since Eddie’s response to her comment was very specific, I got curious and timed the entire length of The Shooting from start to finish which was exactly 3 MINUTES AND 17 SECONDS (the scene with Hen calling Bobby to tell him Eddie had been shot was removed because it happened simultaneously while the firetruck was enroute to the hospital, therefore the time allotted for it doesn’t count). Starting the video with the bullet hitting Eddie’s shoulder and ending it when Buck responded, “No” to Captain Mehta after he asked him if he was ok, the amount of time that elapsed was exactly 3 minutes and 17 seconds. I added a timer to the video to illustrate it.
Reminder, in 4x13 “Suspicion” and 4x14 “Survivors” Eddie was in and out of consciousness when he got shot and Buck went into a catatonic state of shock so neither one of them would have known the amount of time it took to get Eddie to the hospital. The only person who was aware and alert the entire time was Captain Jeshan Mehta. Also Buck told Eddie “We’re just minutes away, we’re so close” when they were in the back of the firetruck but he didn’t say the exact number of minutes that remained until they made it to the hospital.
Eddie’s comment further parallels The Shooting with The Lightning Strike since the total amount of time that elapsed from both of them being injured to them making it to the hospital was 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
I mentioned in a previous post that Buck and Eddie were no longer being paralleled with the other ships on the show, i.e., Madney, Henren and Bathena because they’re now being paralleled with each other in every way possible including their injuries and it’s happening quickly.
Will they become a CANON couple before the end of season 6? Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question.
After writing that 6k married in vegas fic in three hours earlier this week, I've had a bit of writer's block with my baseball AU, so I'm putting that aside for a little bit and working on my outsider POV PR disaster fic.
Here's a snippet from the scene where Liliana (my beautiful OC who runs communications for the LAFD) and Chief Miranda Williams as they decide on the firehouses to be featured in an LAFD documentary.
Liliana starts with station 10, then goes into the 126, then the 133, before finally getting to the 118. She's trying really hard to keep her opinion out of it while she talks about each station, but she’s got her favorites.
“The 118 always seems to be in the middle of it,” Miranda says with a laugh. “I remember when I was still a battalion chief during that 7.1 earthquake a few years ago. Two of them firefighters scaled the inside of the building to rescue a couple people and another one of them got buried in the collapsed parking garage.”
“Oh god,” Liliana can’t help the gasp that leaves her. No matter how long she’s worked for the LAFD, hearing these kinds of stories still horrifies her a little. There’s a reason she works behind a desk and isn’t running into burning buildings and that reason is she doesn't have a death wish. “Did they survive?”
“Well Captain Nash and his team defied my direct orders and went looking for her,” Miranda says with a small smile. “And you know I don’t like being left out of the fun.”
“So you joined and she survived,” Liliana knows she’s got a fond look on her face, she can’t help it.
“I didn’t do much, but she did survive.”
“So, is that a yes to the 118?”
“That’s a yes to the 118,” Miranda smiled at her over her wine glass.

*pulls clown suit out of my closet* you’re telling me we’re getting chief miranda williams back next ep? in a buddie scene? the same chief williams from the earthquake episodes that marked the start of eddie opening up about christopher (specifically with buck)? the same chief williams that i’m pretty sure wasn’t seen again until she appeared in the episode where carla read the story of the invisible strings to eddie and christopher AND buck talked to dr copeland about how he hides his true feelings from people.

Started working on a bit if chapter 2 of my buddie martian au! Now we get to see a bit of what’s going on on Earth.
(I’m trying to decide what names to use for chief Williams and captain Mehta in this fic. It feels weird to call them Miranda and Jeshan, but also weird to refer to just them by their last names when everyone else uses first names. Open to suggestions on this topic.)
“I need satellite imagery of Acidalia Planitia.”
Williams looks unimpressed. “My answer is the same as it has been the last three times you asked: not yet. Buckley‘s death is still fresh in the eyes of the American public. We’re a public organization, all our satellite imagery is open for viewing. Congress is already advocating to slash our budget for the next fiscal year, if we give them pictures of Buckley’s body on Mars they’ll gut us.”
Mehta sighs. “I know, but Ares 3 aborted their mission after only 6 sols! That’s almost an entire mission’s worth of supplies and experiments just sitting up there, waiting for people to come back to use.” He looks Williams in the eye. “Consider this. We frame this as an opportunity to retrieve Buck’s body. Give him a proper funeral instead of an empty casket. There’s a lot of sympathy for the Buckley family right now. We can complete the mission he was sent there to do, in his honor.”
Williams considers it for a moment. She sighs and nods, pointing a finger at him. “Five pictures of Acidalia Planitia. That’s it. And you can be the one to explain this to Miss Kelly.”

Boris Kodjoe as Dr. Will Campbell, Chief of Surgery. In season 2 he is assigned as the new Chief of the combined Surgery and Emergency medicine department in order to save costs, causing strife between him and Rorish. Campbell has a disabled daughter (season 2–3; recurring in season 1).
Jillian Murray as Dr. Heather Pinkney, a surgical resident who becomes involved with Mario.(season 2; recurring in season 1). He quickly ends it when he hears about her side relationship with Dr. Campbell. She gets in further trouble when it's revealed she's providing Angus with Adderall. When confronted by Campbell, she threatens to turn their past relationship into a sexual harassment case.

The actress playing Chief Miranda Williams looks to be in the poker scene as well.
She's on the other side of Buck.
Also, the actress who played that paramedic Julie (Ghost Stories, Crash & Learn, mentioned in 6x12) follows her and commented on the post. She might be on the other side of Eddie.
Firehouse 118: Three Assignments, A Transfer and A Recruit
After rewatching the "Chimney Begins", "Hen Begins" and "Bobby Begins Again" episodes, I noticed how Chimney, Hen and Buck were all assigned to the 118 while Bobby was transferred in and Eddie was recruited by Bobby to work there.
All five of their stories of becoming LAFD firefighters are important and unique and it doesn’t matter if they were assigned, transferred or recruited because they're all essential and needed for the team to work seamlessly the way that it does. Also, they’re all exceptional at what they do and their contributions to the team are extraordinary.
Captain Robert "Bobby" Wade Nash
Bobby’s a great captain and he has a great team. He transferred to the 118 after he asked his chief to send him somewhere following his completion of 6 months of AA while he was in Minnesota. Sal DeLuca was bad mouthing him to the team and none of them knew Bobby was already there sitting inside of the firetruck listening to them place their bets on how long he'd be at the station.
In 7x2, after Norman was shot and they carried him to the casino so he could be assisted by the cruise ship doctor (who only had sea sick pills 🙄 and got woozy at the sight of blood), Athena asked Bobby what he needed and he replied, “My team!”, then the camera cut to the 118 responding to the car accident with the drunk driver.
Firefighter/Paramedic Howard "Chimney" Han
Chimney’s been at the 118 longer than anyone on Bobby's team, in fact he was there before Bobby was transferred. He’s the heart of the place and Buck said so in 5x5 after he left to find Maddie. His absence for the majority of the season was noticeable and it was great when he returned during 5B. Being a paramedic comes naturally to him, he loves what he does and it shows. Reminder, he saved Tommy from a gas explosion during one of Chimney's flashbacks in 2x12. Also, he wants to help anyone he can even that guy who was being belligerent with him in 7x2 after he caused that accident.
Firefighter/Paramedic Henrietta "Hen" Wilson
Hen is a great leader; she has the temperament and the know how to handle difficult situations. Reminder, she’s the one who always speaks up for Buck whenever the rest of the team or Bobby need to be reminded about the way he doesn’t have anything outside of firefighting like she did in 3x1 and 3x6. Additionally, she was in medical school for three years until she decided in 6x6 that her dream was to remain a paramedic.
OAN: In 7x2, Hen was interim captain and the 118 was working together and handling the scene of an accident with a drunk driver but the driver died after refusing treatment and it was followed by an investigation. She was told by the chief to “Go home firefighter” and it pissed me off because she GRADUATED from the academy as a firefighter/paramedic so for him to be dismissive and call her a firefighter instead of a paramedic, which she earned, was not ok.
Chimney and Hen are partners and they ride or die for each other but reminder, Chimney didn’t become a paramedic until after he had a conversation with Eli. That doesn’t make one better than the other, it’s just an observation to illustrate how rude the chief was. Where’s Chief Miranda Williams when she’s needed because it appears this new chief doesn’t listen?
Firefighter/EMT Evan "Buck" Buckley
Buck goes harder than anyone else when it comes to firefighting and Bobby said so himself in 6x1 after Buck tried to impress him so he would consider him to be the interim captain. He thinks outside of the box like he did in 3x13 at the bowling alley and he knows the job like the back of his hand. His personal life aside, he loves being a firefighter and after he stopped being reckless and stealing firetrucks to have sex in them and Bobby fired him, he got his act together.
Firefighter/EMT Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz
Eddie wasn't assigned to the 118 and he didn't transfer in because he was recruited by Bobby. I’ve always known Bobby convinced him to join his firehouse instead of him going to station 6 but IIRC, Eddie was the first person Bobby hired instead of him being assigned or transferred. He graduated at the top of his academy class and he already had experience because he was an Army medic and he did multiple tours in Afghanistan. One thing to note is of all their introductions to the 118, Eddie’s was on another level and it was evident since he had his own theme song, “Whatta Man” by Salt -N- Pepa. Additionally, Eddie was NEVER treated like a “probie” and IIRC he was never hazed but that could be because Bobby runs his firehouse differently than Gerard did. Finally, Eddie was already in the firehouse when the camera panned to him instead of him walking in like Chimney, Hen and Buck did. Bobby was the only other person on the team who was already there when he was introduced.
Buck and Eddie are partners and they work seamlessly together the same way Hen and Chimney do but there's a difference between the two partnerships (related post linked here). Hen and Chimney are best friends but Buck and Eddie have built a family together with their Eddie's son, Chris that's outside of their found family.
The point of this post is to highlight how great Bobby’s team is and how they all need each other along with the way the 118 wouldn’t be what it is without all five of them.
YouTuber eli_handle_b․wav uploaded a video simply titled “Michael Scott in Mass Effect.”As the name suggests, Michael Scott is placed into a plethora of memorable Mass Effect scenes as if he were meant to be there. Such scenes include Normandy’s destruction at the start of Mass Effect 2, a Citadel dance party, and a steamy bit of platonic arm touching with Miranda Lawson.
Since publishing his mash-up video, it’s amassed over 300,000 views on YouTube and has taken Twitter and Reddit by storm. You can check out why the bizarre creation has captivated folks so strongly below. Warning, it’s quite funny in case you aren’t into that sorta thing.
Speaking with Kotaku via email, eli_handle_b․wav said that the idea to put Michael Scott in Mass Effect came as a suggestion from his brother. Prior to making the video, eli_handle_b․wav said he’d never watched The Office before. Once he finished watching the entire sitcom in two weeks, he concluded that “Michael Scott is the perfect candidate for commander of the Normandy.” Producing the video also took him around two weeks using Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Mocha Pro. On the video’s reception, eli_handle_b.wav said, “It’s always riveting to realize that your ideas and your work receive such a massive response.”
Arguably the most spectacular part about eli_handle_b.wav’s mash-up is how natural Michael Scott looks when placed next to Bioware’s character models. My favorite scene in the mashup hands down goes to the extra touch of camera work and model placement eli_handle_b.wav put into Michael Scott’s not-so-daring evacuation of the capsized Normandy. Having him shove Ashley Williams into a roaring fire before cutting to CCTV footage of Michael Scott running down a corridor by his lonesome was basically how I envisioned that scene going down if players made the wrong choice on Virmire.
Outside of the Michael Scott in Mass Effect video, eli_handle_b.wav has been cooking up a bunch of equally brilliant video game mash-ups with popular movies and television shows. Chief among them being Leslie Nielsen in Detroit: Become Human, Tony Soprano in God of War, and Austin Powers in Mass Effect: Part 1 and Part 2. Here’s hoping eli_handle_b.wav graces us with another hilarious Mass Effect mash-up video that holds us over until Bioware gives us a crumb of news on the upcoming Mass Effect game.
Jacob locks his jaw as he looks up from the M-27 Scimitar he’s been cleaning and does his best to pretend he’s imagining it. He’s always prided himself in his stability: come hell or high water, sabotage duty or bodyguard stint, Jacob Taylor is a rock. Doesn’t get panicked, doesn’t get upset, and most importantly doesn’t get mad.
Enter Operations Chief Williams: famed for her service as part of Shepard’s original crew, her lauded career with Alliance military, and now showing up in the new Normandy’s armory to test just how solid Jacob’s composure really is. Be inviting. That’s his job. He’s always been the gentle foil to Miranda’s fierce intellect: first with convincing the new-and-improved Commander Shepard to join up with them, and again with every new recruit to board the Normandy, and now with Williams.
He'd rather be buck-naked in a varren pit, fighting with nothing but his fists. It’d be easier, he thinks.
Jacob looks, snaps to attention, and gives Williams a crisp salute. “Operations Chief.” Then he relaxes and tries on his best smile. “Welcome to the Normandy’s armory. Shepard told — ” warned “ — me you might feel at home here, so I’ve done my best to clear a space for you.” He juts his chin over in the leftmost corner, where he’s cleared off a fair bit of space. “Guess that’s another thing we have in common.”
They’ve met before: another time, another life, another planet. Eden Prime. Before the beacon. Jacob feels the slightest stab of jealousy, then locks it down with iron self-discipline. It could’ve been me —
No sense in wondering now. Eyes forward, Taylor.
Jacob gestures at the armory in what he hopes is a clear invitation. “Please. Make yourself comfortable. And if there’s any information I can provide — ship, crew, munitions — don’t hesitate to ask.”
