The Old Dead Tree, March 2019.
It took me a long time to make the call to chop the top off the old dead cherry tree in the garden. It had been dead since we moved here and had always featured in photographs, the portrait here was taken two years prior in 2017. It needed to come down. Every time the wind got up it would threaten to fall of its own accord. The wood didn't go to waste as it was used to heat the house.

Cherry Tree Dryad
Another dryad portrait I created for testing papers. This is A3 200g/cm² Bristol paper and perhaps my first actual success with wet-stretching paper (although it almost bent the board to the breaking point. More on how board and paper need to play in tandem soon). The colouring was not an initial idea but I like it a lot.
Read a little more about the process behind this on my art blog, https://jenniferslange.wordpress.com/2023/08/11/the-quest-for-texture/

#MiniatureMonday
Foreign Lands by Robert Louis Stevenson, printed by Anna K. Ganske
In this poem by Robert Louis Stevenson, a child climbs up a cherry tree in their garden to see "foreign lands", such as the neighbors garden, and a nearby river. In a little miniseries for spring, we will be doing much the same, and exploring four neighboring books by two poets from the UK.
Our first poet is Robert Louis Stevenson, who is best known for adventure stories like Treasure Island, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, as well as his poetry for children.
Today's item is quite spring like in color, with floral cloth covered boards protecting an accordion fold book, tied with a blue ribbon.
