maybe, possibly, perhaaaps...
Tumblr media
p: cheng xiaoshi x gn!reader | wc: 1.3k | g: coffee shop!au, fluff, strangers to more | w: mentions of food and drinks
"He's been in here for, like, 2 hours."
"He could be working on an assignment," Answers Lu Guang as he hands you a mug absentmindedly. You snatch it from his grasp and sigh, wiping it down with the rag you hold. "But he's been on his phone."
"Why are you bugged, anyway? It's not like you," Your co worker wipes his palms against his apron, leaning against the counter. "I'm not bugged," You argue, cheeks hot. "I just... he's strangely but insanely attractive and I maybe, possibly, perhaaaps... would like to ask for his number."
The deadpan Lu Guang wears earns him a firm smack to the shoulder and a rushed, quiet whisper for him to shut up despite him not saying anything. He scrunches his nose up, stealing a not-so-subtle glance at the raven-haired boy across the cafe. You curse him out again, though it's not like the charming boy would notice with how focused he seems as he types on his phone with frantic (maybe a little shaky) fingers.
QL: ohmygod how long will you be pretending to text me
QL: just grow a pair and ask them smh
CXS: whar???
CXS: hell no have you SEEN them???
QL: no because you refused to show me a picture of them
CXS: i'd be charked by them then i'd slip up then boom. caught.
CXS: *charmed
CXS: you must be ctazy to thnik that i'd risk beign caught and ruinign my chances with them
Xiaoshi can't bring it in himself to notice his typos because his chest beats so violently he feels like he's about to throw up. He can hear you cursing at something faintly and though it isn't clear or flattering, the boy feels slightly enamoured. Just slightly. He hasn't felt this nervous since his middle school talent show where he (thought he) pulled the best move ever invented.
After being ghosted by Qiao Ling— nothing new— Xiaoshi groans and lets his cheek mush against the skin of his palm as he slaps his face with a hopeless groan. It's when he looks out the window in hopes of calming his mind when he notices- it's pouring.
How deep in thought had he been to not notice? He feels stupid now.
Xiaoshi takes a moment to look around the cafe-- there are a few patrons sat in different seats, some in pairs and most not; the white-haired employee wipes down a table with a fresh cloth, eyes half-lidded as he watches the downpour outside; the coffee machine whirrs, though there's no one to attend to it at the moment.
You've disappeared.
Puzzled, he takes another sip of the caramel macchiato you'd made for him— call him biased, but he believes it's the best he's ever had— and takes another look around, hoping to spot you.
Though to no avail, he assumes you’re taking a much deserved break in the back.
“Hi,”
Xiaoshi jumps a little, shoulders rising. “Oh! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to, um, startle you.” You apologize with a sheepish smile. You stand in front of him, a little to his right, pressing a tray against the material of the apron you wear. “I just- are you done? With-with that?”
Curses. You and your nervous stammering. You’re insanely embarrassed right now, fingers picking on a loose strand of your jeans.
“Oh! Um, yeah, thanks.” Answers Xiaoshi, drawing attention back to his ‘thesis’ that displays on his laptop. It’s been half-finished for two hours. With a bouncing knee, he watches as you carefully pick up the menu and the plate his strawberry macarons had been displayed on, tucking the tray and menu under you arm and bringing the plate with one hand,
You take a step, something in Xiaoshi jumps. He doesn’t want you to go yet. This is a poor excuse of an interaction to go home to. His lips part a little, but his throat goes dry. You take another step, though this one feels hesitant. He wets his lips with his tongue.
"It’s po-"
"How was yo-"
You both stop, skin burning. The moment settles in the air that sits between the two of you as you both look at each other as caught off guard as the other. “I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to cut you off.” Says Xiaoshi with a little nervous chuckle. He gestures for you to go on with a shrug and a charming smile.
“I just wanted to ask if you, um, liked the coffee. And macarons.”
“They both tasted like heaven,” He answers almost immediately. The answer was easy, he thinks. It’s the truth. “Though, those macarons were pretty hefty.”
A small playful, slightly bewildered scoff bubbles from your throat, “Well, they were pretty hard to make.”
“So you made them too? No wonder they were good.”
Your fingers clench around the plate you hold as you struggle to resist a smile. Tilting your head a bit, you shrug, “I had a little help. From Jack Frost over there,” You motion towards your co-worker’s direction, who watches you two not-so-subtly as he wipes down the cashier counter. “Though he’s a little clumsy at times.”
“Jack Frost,” Laughs Xiaoshi. “They were really nice, helped or not. Thanks for them.”
You’re left to smile at each other for a moment, and before it’s too long and too awkward, you clear your throat. “Gotta wash, uh, some dishes.” You scrunch your nose up as you bring the plate in your hand up a little.
You don’t miss the little shit-eating look Lu Guang gives you as you retreat behind the counter to wash the said dish, letting your eyes roll at his antics.
CXS: I
CXS: I DID IT
CXS: I TLAKED TO THEM
QL: cool
QL: does this mean you’ll stop bothering me ab them
CXS: screw you
CXS: i’m comign home in a bit btw
QL: okay, but make sure to get those digits
QL: don’t want you moping here
Xiaoshi, shutting his laptop down, presses his lips into a line after reading his roommate’s messages, suppressing an annoyed murmur. He stuffs the device into his backpack and sends a few more messages to stall his time in the cafe.
“He’s leaving,” Says Lu Guang. You smack him in the back for saying it too loud for your liking. The boy hisses and gives you a glare, whispering harshly, “He’s. Leaving.”
“Oh shit,” You mumble. In a nimble rush, you steal the pen from Lu Guang’s pocket and snatch a napkin, scribbling down in the fastest pace you can. You hope it’s readable.
Xiaoshi stands from his seat with his backpack slung over one shoulder, gathering all the courage in him to ask you one question. But when he turns around, he’s met with your deadpanning co-worker and a receipt in his hand.
“Your receipt.” He says in a monotone expression.
“Thanks…” Mumbles Xiaoshi, looking a bit over the boy’s shoulder. He sees you entering the back breakroom, untying the knot behind your apron. A wave of disappointment washes over him as he takes the paper strip from the white-haired boy, but it’s soon quelled by a small sense of curiosity when he feels a soft napkin under the receipt.
It’s your digits. It’s written a little messily, but he thinks it just adds to your charm. Under the said numbers is written carefully:
Macaron Maker :) ♡
“They were too nervous.” Sighs Lu Guang. Xiaoshi looks at him, wordless. The younger one picks the mug Xiaoshi had been drinking out of before from the table up, “To give it to you.”
Xiaoshi can’t help but steal another glance towards the backdoor, grinning a tight-lipped smile when he meets eyes with you, who bites the inside of your cheek out of embarrassment. He waves, you give one back.
The rain seems to have stopped when Xiaoshi strides out of the coffee shop, feeling a little stupidly giddy when he feels the warm rays of the sun adorn and rest on his face.

Heyo! I was wondering if I could please request Cheng Xiaoshi with #15. “Where do I know you from?” “From your dreams?” (With the reader starting the dialogue and Cheng Xiaoshi trying to be smooth). Take as long as you need and no pressure, ok?
Heyo! Of course, thank you for the reassurance as well. Wishing you a wonderful day/night <3 (Also thanks for requesting link click! I was so excited for your request)

#15: “Where do I know you from?” “From your dreams?”
Join Event ➺ Masterlist
You were checking out the grand opening of a new bubble tea shop and you arrived seeing the long line that has already accumulated. You internally groaned while walking to the end of the line. “I should’ve got here earlier” You complained under your breath. “Same here.” The sudden unfamiliar voice startled you and you turned around to see who the stranger was. Upon turning around you made eye contact with the stranger and you ended up staring at him because he looked familiar but you couldn’t point your finger to where you could possibly know him from.
The stranger waved his hand in front of you which snapped you out of your staring. You decided to ask the dreadful question, “Where do I know you from?” “From your dreams?” You gave him a deadpan look. “Trust me, my intention wasn’t checking you out, you just look really familiar.” “Aw man, that's a shame” he playfully says. Your phone rings interrupting your awkward conversation and you mentally thank whoever it was that was calling you. You checked the caller ID to see that it was Qiao Ling and you quickly picked up the call.
“Qiao Ling what’s up?” “Are you in line for that new bubble tea shop?” “Yeah, you want me to get you something?” “How’d you know?” “I just do, what do you want?” “A brown sugar please, I’ll pay you back later, meet me at the photo studio?” “Gotcha, see you later.” “See you, bye.” Then you hung up the phone. That’s when the stranger speaks up, “You know Qiao Ling?” “Yeah I do, I’m guessing you do too.” “Yep, she’s my childhood friend.” That’s when it clicked in your head. “Ohh I remember you now, I see you on Qiao Ling’s story all the time and I saw you a few times at the photo studio.”
You guys chatted for the remainder of the time until you both reached the front of the line. He was honestly really fun to talk to and it seems like you had the wrong impression of him earlier. Once you received your drinks you waited with him for him to get his. Soon after he got his drink you asked him, “You’re headed to the photo studio so is it alright if I accompany you there?” “It’s more than alright.”
You guys silently walked until he cleared his throat before speaking, “If it’s cool with you, do you maybe want to meet up more in the future?” Your eyes lit up in joy, “Of course, I look forward to seeing you and getting to know you more.” He smiled hearing your answer, “Same here!”

My mind is stuck on that plot trope where the chosen one is accidentally chosen by happenstance and say didn't survive the ordeal but its told in pov of the rival who in their mind was trained and destined to be chosen and are stuck in a time loop where they gradually bond and get attached to them and now actively wants to save them from that fate, anyway thats Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang to me

Just a random post written after a sleepless night. Decided to collect a few thoughts and translate them into a single post for the future, as I'm wondering if the detail from the opening turns out to be what it seems. Mind you, this is all speculation and I'm just having fun.
Spoilers!
Tumblr media
About Cheng Xiaoshi … Again. I'm still not convinced that the forest is a literal location. So far, this may be the actual location of the scene, but also a metaphor, similar to the foxes in the forest in the story of the twins.
Considering the theory where Cheng Xiaoshi is dead (or wounded) in some variation of events, although the injury visually seems to be at the same place as Lu Guang's wound, in my opinion, the circumstances were different.
It's still hard for me to guess how time goes by (I still have the idea in my head, given the characters' intros, that s1 and s2 are one long flashback). But whether it's a flashback that has already happened in some of the realities, or further events, in my opinion, the tragedy with Cheng Xiaoshi is connected with a gun. The presence of such a weapon seems to be a critical moment, it's kind of too obvious. 1. OP
Simple and clean. The gun will literally be one of the key items in the further plot, just like the star fox, as of yet unknown diary and 2 photos.
Tumblr media
2. Qiao Ling's poster Qiao Ling's shadow (on the poster for s2) is one of the twins. If you look closely, there is a pistol in the right hand.
Tumblr media
I'm not too sure which of the twins this is, as we have several diametrically opposed theories... and one of them is body-switching. For myself, I temporarily stopped with the thought that Xiao Hong from s1 is Li Tianchen himself (at least his body), and he is going to be the shooter from the future events. *There is still a room here if there are two time/reality lines, and a shot in "the past" may not match a shot in "the present". There is not enough information about the setting and facts. It could still be a metaphor for the destruction of time or something.
Tumblr media
3. Qian Jin's profile As additional suspicious information, we know from Qian Jin's intro that he was an extremely skilled police officer, his profile information also specifically highlights his shooting skills. It seems that now he has ceased to act directly and relies on his people, but why was it necessary to highlight these words (用枪械)? I'll keep that in mind for the future.
Tumblr media
So. Regardless of who else was involved in this situation, why do I think the one who was shot is Cheng Xiaoshi? Well, back to the Vortex (literally). When Cheng Xiaoshi (s1 design) enters the red space where two photos and a phone flicker, at the very last moment Cheng Xiaoshi flips over in a small flash of light. I think, with such a sharp penetrating gold line, the subsequent blue splashes, like blood, it is really a shot and a bullet passing through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this is a very possible scenario due to such visual elements. The real question is when, in time and chronology, events occur. Maybe someone can get some new thoughts and insights from this~ Can't wait to see what really happened!

One thing that immediately stood out to me in both the PV and the official art was Lu Guang's glasses:
Tumblr media
So gear up, guys - it’s time for a deep dive into the meaning behind this (possibly completely insignificant) fashion choice!
To "look at/see the world through rose-coloured/rose-tinted glasses" is an idiom that first appeared in the 1830s. Its exact origin isn’t clear. However, it is expected to have originated in the UK (something that fits the British theme of the overseas arc).
Tumblr media
One origin theory I do want to mention is that map-makers were believed to have once used rose petals to clean the lenses of their glasses. An interesting note, considering roses are included in the Inplick artwork! 🌹
Glasses with pink lenses can also be helpful for those suffering from migraines – the lenses are able to filter out more painful wavelengths of light, providing comfort and pain relief (shoutout to LG eye theory believers!)
Tumblr media
As a whole, the idiom itself most commonly refers to people who look on the bright side of life - those who see the glass half-full. Despite all the evil in the world, these individuals are able to find a silver lining. Sound familiar?
Tumblr media
Cheng Xiaoshi is exactly the type of character who could be described as seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses. He’s naive, able to empathize with those who have made wrong choices…even years later, he still holds a belief that his parents may return.
However, Cheng Xiaoshi isn’t the one wearing rose-tinted glasses. In both the PV and the Inplick art, Lu Guang’s pink-toned glasses are a staple item for his character. So, how does this fit in with the phrase itself?
Tumblr media
One main trait of this idiom is a sense of optimism. There have been many studies that show that optimists tend to live longer, show more confidence, and ultimately feel more fulfilled and happy with their lives. In Link Click’s case, though, Cheng Xiaoshi is the one destined to die.
Tumblr media
Despite how pure and optimistic a person he is, Cheng Xiaoshi's fate is sealed. While we don’t know the specific reasons why Lu Guang is determined to rewrite time for Cheng Xiaoshi, one thing is clear: he believes that his partner deserves to live, regardless of the consequences.
I can see the pink glasses symbolizing two different things, depending on the context of how Lu Guang got them. The two scenarios are:
1. CXS gifted the glasses to LG
2. LG bought them for himself
Scenario 1:
In this scenario, the glasses may symbolize Cheng Xiaoshi’s hope. How his optimism and words stuck with Lu Guang - which motivates him to keep trying, despite not “seeing hope”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scenario 2:
Another way of viewing the phrase is the glasses themselves being deceptive to the wearer - he who wears them loses all common sense. Lu Guang’s rose-tinted glasses symbolize an abandonment of his own morals so he could blindly seek out a better future for Cheng Xiaoshi.
Tumblr media
Lu Guang isn't motivated by optimism - he is driven by selfish desperation. He knows that Cheng Xiaoshi is the one who deserves a long, happy, and fulfilling life. The fact his partner was deprived of that is what motivates Lu Guang to go against his own morals.
For Lu Guang, his “rose-tinted glasses” (or reason for seeing the world in a new light) do not represent optimism but a selfish desire. Cheng Xiaoshi is the good in the world that deserves protection. And Lu Guang will do anything to save him from a tragic fate.
Lu Guang is the one with rose-tinted glasses because, despite everything, he isn’t willing to accept the fact that Cheng Xiaoshi died. What drives him isn’t optimism - it’s a stubborn determination to change reality to fit what he deems a brighter future than what is meant to be.
It may be no coincidence that his rose-tinted glasses quite literally overlap/touch CXS in the Inplick artwork - because the only world Lu Guang wants is one where Cheng Xiaoshi is alive and well.

just generally musing to myself what makes thematic and plot sense for the link clink ending after reading some other people's takes the past few days. no real conclusions here, just some thoughts tied together with a string.
I've seen arguments that what needs to happen is that Lu Guang needs to accept Cheng Xiaoshi's fate and move on without regrets. This idea that the past has to remain as-is and you have to move on is a thread that the show has played with quite a few times. It's written into the very rules underlying the dives. The most obvious instance being the earthquake arc, where Cheng Xiaoshi was unable to save Chen Xiao's mum, but he *was* able to deliver the messages and thereby help CX gain closure. It's laid out by Lu Guang that it *was* worth it to deliver the words, and Cheng Xiaoshi takes this conclusion with him when he confronts Emma. (Of course, the fact this lesson was given by *Lu Guang* casts a different shade over the whole affair. I don't think it can be entirely discarded, given LG even admits he's going against his own rules, but it reads more like something he's trying and failing to convince himself of.)
So, the past has to stay as it is. We see a few different approaches to this idea in s2 - of people refusing to move on and trying to change the past. Qian Jin wants to force his wife "not to cheat"; he wants to alter her behaviour because she didn't act as he wanted. Li Tianchen wanted to change how *he* acted back then, even if indirectly, because he sees himself as his mother's killer, and thinks this is the point at which his tragedy was locked into place. They both thought their 'tragedies' were down to a single event. It's not that simple.
Lu Guang wants to personally protect Cheng Xiaoshi by controlling all scenarios. Not exactly taking his will, but limiting his choices. There's probably a whole post to be made on how QJ/LTC/LG each approach the agency of the ones they want to protect, but that's not for now.
Anyway, Li Tianchen as the foil to Lu Guang. At the end of s2, he has in theory let go of Li Tianxi but in practice he's just burying himself deeper by following Liu Xiao. Trying to entirely shun the past so he can believe that he still has some element of control. Both LTC and LG are at the extreme ends of clinging on vs letting go and that means the correct answer has to lie somewhere in the middle. Not shunning the past, but accepting it, and using that resolve to move forward.
So, Liu Xiao. We don't have much on him but what we do have is his belief that uncertainties should become certainties. He's deterministic and set explicitly as the counter to Lu Guang, whose own aim is to change events rather than lock them into place. They both want to *control* all aspects, but for differing reasons. In fate vs free will, it makes sense that our protagonist is on the side of free will, but it's interesting that he's presented himself so much as the opposite previously. He and CXS haven't exactly switched places, but to the audience, they've definitely taken on traits of the other.
Liu Xiao's whole spiel about how all options will eventually lead to the same outcomes, with him set *against* Lu Guang, very much seems like it's a setup for a "defeat fate" type plotline though. It's hammered in that there is no escape, no other option. Are we expected to accept this? It doesn't seem so. It's something I'm struggling to reconcile somewhat with the earlier messages about accepting the past, but maybe that's not quite it. Maybe it's about control vs freedom?
Trust fall. Every dive with LG and CXS is an act of mutual trust where they need to act in tandem. Dives go astray when one party acts without the other. For CXS, this is about him acting against LG's instructions (texting Emma's parents, staying in the earthquake dive). For LG, this is about him withholding info because he doesn't trust how CXS will react.
Lu Guang needs to put his trust in CXS before his withholding of information creates an unresolvable rift. He needs to stop trying to control CXS in order to keep him safe. We saw how that spun out for Li Tianchen and Li Tianxi. LG needs to put the choice into Cheng Xiaoshi's hands and let him decide his own fate. It reminds me of how Cheng Xiaoshi laid everything out for Emma and let her decide whether to live. It was only outside interference that prevented her, but she did make the choice to survive. And she did it by remembering those small moments. By accepting that tragedy happens but there are still people that make it worth it.
For LG and CXS, they need to mutually trust each other and that's how they'll find their way through.

season 2 episode 12 is sad for a lot of reasons obviously but the thing i can't get over is how everyone is so happy. they're celebrating, eating cake, having a nice time and lu guang is sat there thinking about the time his soulmate* died in his arms, the time he looked at his hands and saw the blood of his soulmate. *(friend feels too weak of a word in this scenario - you wouldn't go back on your promise, your morals, your rules to go back to the beginning to save the life of just a friend when you know that death is unavoidable and a Big No in trying to prevent)
and the lighting !!! the welcome home banner !!! everything about that scene screams happiness and joy and relief that they recovered from their injuries which is just so ironic since lu guang, my little meow meow, is thinking about the fatal wound that cheng xiaoshi got in the original timeline.
imagine seeing your found family happy that you lived but you are thinking of the Horrors where they die 😭 no wonder the "lu guang needs a hug" tag is so popular on ao3

shiguang and their endless parallels when it comes to eachother
I'm still not over the finale (and trust me many essays are due from my end), and one of the things that I cant seem to get over are how expertly shiguang prove to be excellent mirrors of one another, with multiple references cross the 2 seasons showcasing this,
argument #1 : core personalities (status quo)
lu guang is rational. he is ever placid. he thinks five times before he speaks, and even so, is a man of few words. from the very start lu guang has been shown to be the ever mature, serious and aware between him and his best friend, despite being 'younger' lol mentally that's not the case rn I guess.
he is well aware of what exactly to do at which situation, and has been shown to get anxious when things tend to get unpredictable. he withholds information if he believes it would affect xiaoshi's state of mind, he has always been more aware of his ability in comparison to xiaoshi, and is seemingly hyper aware of the moral responsibility and karmic debt he must repay should he act against it.
he isn't adept at fighting, and is clearly the sort to wield a pen over a sword. he rarely even loses his cool, and when he does. well.
cheng xiaoshi ís imprudent, rash. he places heart over mind and acts on impulse. he needs to consistently be reminded to avoid giving into his urges during a situation at hand. he is clingy, he is an open book. he values his partner and sister more than the world, and his loyalty is evident. he's very loud and overt when it comes to his opinons, and can be interpreted as a more childish, naive type.
while xioashi has an idea of the greater moral responsibility he must hold, he is often shown to restrain himself only when lu guang requests it. even if he questions it, he listens to him, regardless of whatever alter motive lu guang may have (in cxs' eyes, there is none)
he is very martially adept, and can often take advantage of a situation if it comes to physical confrontation. very obviously a sword over pen sorta lad. to be immensely martially adept however, requires strategical thinking does it not?
argument #2 : cheng xiaoshi being a dark angel narrative
the highest stakes to shiguang have always been their own wellbeing. referenced multiple times throughout season 1 and 2, their partnership means a lot more than just a friendship to the two of them.
episode 3 showcases the sheer trust they have in each other when paralleling basketball scenes.
but how does their personality play out when times get the most dire?
back in episode 11. of the first season, shit hits the fan, and xiaoshi hatches a plan. this becomes a recurring theme when stakes reach their peak in the show btw, and showcases just how strategical cxs can really be. he plans for nearly every scenario, with almost no input from lu guang's end whatsoever.
he even (temporarily) wins the battle. he accounts for nearly everything including his own, and lu guang's safety. xiaoshi's reliability is shown very clearly here.
oh boy does cxs pull through. the shit is flying and cxs somehow narrowly dodges the blow. despite ql being possessed, with his partner quite literally stabbed through he maintains a clear stance when fighting, he thinks about the situation they are in and acts accordingly when the police show up, painting himself as the temporary perpetrator.
when lu guang's 'death' is announced, cxs laments for him silently, through their everyday, and begins to seriously consider shifting the timeline. however, he knows he shouldn't, that he cant. not necessarily because of the karmic retribution, but because lu guang would never agree to that. he considers his thoughts, and actions.
when it comes to lu guang, he thinks. he considers the best possible scenario. he strategises and he doesn't rush into things immediately.
argument #3: lu guang being a light devil narrative
to lu guang, he rarely shifts from his placid stance. but when it comes to cxs' danger, his wellbeing is the ONLY thought running through his head. (I plan on covering this in immense detail in it's own blog because holy SHIT the references I've found that date all the way back to season 1 and the damn chibi shorts)
instances of such can be dated all back to season 1, where lu guang rushes out of a police station and through an unknowing ql to yell at cxs over the potential consequences of fucking up their timeline. you would know a lot about that, wouldn't you lu guang?
when it comes to cxs, lu guang is selfish. lu guang is irrational. he does not think, no he does, but all he thinks about is cheng xiaoshi. a building is burning? where is cxs? I'm getting tortured? at least its not cxs. I'm getting STABBED TO THE SIDE? better than it happening to cxs. cxs got shot? time to use my lacking physical prowess to pummel the guy who did that.
the only time we have seen such raw RAGE from cxs happens to be the finale of season 2. the pure impulse he acts on beating the shit out of qj the second he shoots cxs. oh, the girl behind him is literally dying? when cxs got shot in the side so priorities. it's crazy just how irrational this man is when it comes to cheng xiaoshi, and we haven't even gotten into the fact that lu guang literally ripped apart the FABRIC OF HIS TIMELINE, THE SPACE TIME CONTINUUM, because cheng xiaoshi died in it, and to live in a world without him is more dire than whatever karmic debt may fall upon him.
lu guang, he is rational, he is methodical. but he is selfish, and he loves. he's perhaps committed one of the most selfish acts one possibly can, and has quite literally gone against a rule he held so dear, a rule that he quite possibly upholds just because he is terrified of making it worse. he didn't even sleep on his decision, bloody clothes and a null void expression on his face as he decided to hell with the world, he needs to get it right this time around, even at the cost of himself
but as this show has proven time and time again, death is inevitable, at most, it can only be delayed

Lu Guang sometimes acts a little cold towards Cheng Xiaoshi (e.g. when he dumps him onto the sofa when they come home from the hospital) and it's usually in scenarios where he seems to be refusing to spoil him but 99% of Lu Guang's actions are motivated by his goal of keeping Cheng Xiaoshi safe and happy. It's fascinating. 🫠

i only have 2 episodes of Link Click left but it’s still killing me how all of this began because Cheng Xiaoshi, as he lives through the trauma of being abandoned at a young age, tried to give a young woman the opportunity to be loved and comforted by her own parents that he had been so deprived of. The stories about time travel that stick to me the most is almost always about the love between a parent and their child. I think because it is, in its ideal form, the oldest and most intimate bond of love between two creatures that will inevitably be interrupted by time. All children must grow up. All parents must grow old. A child will never know what their parents were like as children, as young adults, will never get to meet them before a time they were born. Even in the best case scenarios, a parent will not live to see their child grow old, to the last of their days. Parent-child bonds are the oldest and most intimate, both in its love and its pain, in nature, and yet the overlap between the time of a parent and a child is so fleeting. To time travel, then, isn’t to defy time, to outsmart its arrow marching forward. It might not even be to steal time. It’s all that love that you want to give to someone, during a time when you know that they are lacking it and missing it or not even knowing yet it’s coming. Time traveling is to love despite inevitability, to love and be loved beyond the overlap.

Dammit the wait for next Friday will hurt. Anyways, spoilers below.
Also, yeah, this arc is still dealing with domestic abuse. Heads up on that and note that the first ten minutes or so of this week's ep are extremely rough.
Okay, so Xixi can possess people in present and it seems that this was the first time she jumped into someone via a photo. That poor baby, even if there's a distinct possibility she's a serial killer now. And I'm guessing Cheng Xiaoshi got kicked out bc of her possessing someone else? Although maybe it was the potential superpower interference of Tian Chen? However, I do wonder if he can possess people too.
I'm not entirely sure of whether this is really Xixi yet. The explainer for her childhood muteness feels off, so I'm not discounting the possibility of her brother possessing her yet. Cheng Xiaoshi's possession could temporarily get rid of things like nearsightedness and make the person much stronger, so maybe it'd be a similar principle here? Spit balling tho.
Additionally, Qian Jin getting access to the twins during his cop days didn't surprise me. But why did they basically fall off the face of the earth for a while, considering that a double homicide in front of two children would definitely go public? Witness protection? Idk, we'll see.
And the illegal cliffhanger with Lu Guang's disappearance has me scratching my head. The glass appears to have been broken from inside and a bunch of henchmen storming a hospital to kidnap someone would have attracted attention. It's unlikely to be them and the window shot indicated quite a drop. I'm not sure a healthy person could have made this jump, nevermind someone who got stabbed earlier.
But a lot of emphasis was put on the 18:55 shot, which makes me wonder if there was time travel involvement. He'd have stood a chance in this scenario bc of possession's strength increase and temporary ignorance of conditions. Additionally, maybe he's seen the henchmen storming the building via checking the security cams and thus began pulling together an escape plan earlier. Perhaps it involved future Cheng Xiaoshi? But given that they've already dropped a bunch of nods to the slice of life spinoff, I do wonder if the photos Cheng Xiaoshi took for the shop's social media are still accessible. If so, could be possession by a twin too.

IS LINK CLICK GOOD AGAIN WAS RHE FINAL GOOD
okay god so. this is complicated. i'm keeping this spoiler free lol, but i wrote an essay so if you dont wanna read that tldr this season wasn't good and this episode retains those overall issues but left me with enough intrique that im still invested if incredibly cautious and heavily jaded
i have suchhhh mixed feelings on this final episode and on season 2 as a whole. having slept on it and letting the euphoria wear off a bit, the episode as a whole was like. fine. it was emblematic of a lot of the issues ive had with the whole season so far. i think the pacing wasnt great, i think we spent way too long on flashbacks, and oh my god the fight scenes were far far too long (looking at one in particular like i did not care about those characters or their relationship). but the ending of the episode, at least in the moment, made me forget all about that and all about the problems with the whole season. it focused back on the main trio, and we saw interactions between them that made me remember why i love these characters and why i loved season 1. and there was a reveal at the end that, when watching, made me quite frankly go absolutely ape shit insane and feel like i was dying so. lol
but again, sleeping on it, while the end of the episode was a reminder of what i loved, it feels a bit hollow when placed in the context of the rest of the season. i think of how crazy the reveal was last night for me, but then i wonder how much more intense and meaningful it wouldve been had we actually spent the last 12 episodes exploring these characters instead of speedrunning a plot that nobody really cared about. in that way, it almost feels a bit insulting? that's kind of harsh, but idk how else to put it lol. like they had this great idea and strung us along with the bare minimum while making some of the worst writing decisions ive ever seen, and then finally at the end are like "hey! remember this thing! remember! arent we smart and clever and good writers!" and its just. sigh.
i think about what we couldve had had we spent this season with lu guang and cheng xiaoshi. if we had been shown them interacting more than maybe two times this season. if we had spent less time on fight scenes and cops and murder drama and actually spent time on the characters that i watched season 1 for. this season feels like something that shouldve been a film or half a season, if it even really needed to exist at all. it feels like they were twiddling their thumbs for twelve episodes because they just wanted to set up li tianchen and the big reveal at the end. and in that way its a huge disappointment, and a bit of an insult. they made me watch twelve episodes of something that feels like they barely thought about just so they could move on to their greater plot in the last five minutes of the season. this whole season feels like it was a stepping stone, a minor or transitory plot point in a greater story, which is a little iffy considering we all waited for two years just for something that felt like it barely mattered.
all in all, this season in general has just left a bad taste in my mouth. the conflict arises bc what they do get right makes me want to keep watching. i care about lu guang and cheng xiaoshi and qiao ling, like a lot. and with the reveal they did last night i want to see what's happening and there's a part of me that feels vindicated for being right about certain plot elements. am i falling for a shitty carrot on a stick? yeah, kinda, and that feels a little gross. i'll watch season 3 when it comes out and we'll see from there. i want to believe they'll turn it around and maybe now that they've gotten all this plot bullshit out of the way they'll refocus on cheng xiaoshi and lu guang, and maybe then we can all look back on this season and laugh and say "oh yeah that season sucks lol but the rest of it is so good so we just ignore it." at this point that's kind of best case scenario. which isn't a glowing review but play stupid games win stupid prizes i guess

Link Click EP9 infodump compilation
So episode 9 was 100% infodump for the sake of viewers with 0% plot progression for the characters. Which feels like really bad writting? Which is disappointing because had they done it in a more organic way to communicate that info (for example, showing the fox story being told by Tianxi to Qiao Ling), I would have absolutely adore the fairy tale/theatrical way of doing exposition.
So what did we learn that was important?
So shoutout @mimicha-arts for guessing Qian Jin wife was an actress. And I guess the contradictory story about the venue between her and the male lead (Zhuang) is supposed to be a clue that she is cheating on him with him?
Added to him catching her doing a phone call in secret it might have raised his paranoia... although I think the back pain/weight gain comments might be hints that she is pregnant and trying to hide it? And he misunderstood?
And his talk with Xiao Li while drunk most likely happened after her death, which is weird. Why talking about the cheating after her death? Unless it's common knowledge the connection between the suspect and her. But I am starting to think he was involved in is wife's death?
As for why he cried after being told she was pregnant, I can see two scenario. 1) Final proof without any doubt that she was cheating on him because they didn't "do it" in months and until now it was only circonstantial evidences 2) Proof that all the secrecy wasn't because of cheating but because she wanted to surprise him with a 3 month pregnancy announcement. I tend to go with option 2 for the extra tragic but who knows?
So now we know a bit more about what happened with the twins parents, it was mutual murder. Although as some have mentionned, the scene of Qian Jin meeting with the twins is different between EP8 and EP9? I guess EP8 is what really happened and EP9 is a theatrical representation of what happened? Of how eventually Tianchen confess to Qian Jin he is the one who killed them by possessing them, Qian Jin believes him and hatch a plan of burying the case in order to "use" the twins? With Tianchen approving but not Tianxi?
The twins live with Qian Jin. Tianchen told his friend what happened and everyone is just way to chill about him possessing someone.
So, Tianchen friend's name is Liu and has a private driver, so most likely he is Liu Min's little brother the mentionned Liu Xiao.
Ok, so Liu Min tricked Qian Jin and Tianchen to visit him under the pretense he is his father. That happened before he gets paralysed since we can see him move his legs. Somehow he knows that they commit murders and coincidently his first target is the neighbour... which could explain why they were so willing (at first anyway) to murder the people Liu Min chose. Meaning the police is wrong and there is way more than 8 cases starting with Emma. Although... now I wonder why the method changed? Most likely red eyes would make people commit suicide such as with Emma's case to be untraceable... maybe seeing Cheng Xiaoshi inspired them? Like, willingly creating a series of odd cases using Liu Min's body to attract the police/person on the bridge attention, mislead them and catch them off guard?
The fox story is interesting. So now we know why Tianchen disliked the neighbour so much, his rumour spreading along with door guy contributed to worsening the abuse. Also interesting that Tianxi cannot recall what hapened at all at the same time Cheng Xiaoshi was forcefully kicked out. Since everyone possessed by Tianchen cannot recall what happened at all, I guess he possessed her and used her power to possess the mom? Then we see Liu Xiao handing out a bow. Does she know him or she figured his brother's friend manipulated him into killing birds (most likely all the "not innocent" victims of red eye) and didn't dare interfere? All those shots of touching her in her sleep. Did he commit most of his murders by possessing her while she was sleeping, assuming she has the power to possess people if she has a picture of them?
Then the "bunny" incident, which leads to her running away. So, who is the bunny protecting the two smaller bunnies? If I had to bet, the big bunny is Chen Bin. That's why we had a flashback of him. We know Qian Jin and him stayed in contact (close enough to randomly drop to visit without anyone thinking it is weird at least), so it's not too weird to think he knew the twins if they lived with Qian Jin? It could explain why he wants a daughter so much if he sometime had to watch Tianxi and they got along. And it would explain why she "betrayed" her brother and Qian Jin after that specific death. But then again, the brother did miss the shot, so maybe it's someone else...
And those shots of the mom and Chen Bin saying sorry... If my hypothesis of Tianxi being close to Chen Bin is right, both were people who most likely tried to protect her, failed and got killed because of it? Sorry indeed...
While we still don't know what she did exactly and why, I think she at least :
Took the phone. We know the phone is missing (since Tianchen and Qian Jin works closely together, unlikely he would lie about that) and the person who took the phone didn't speak (hint it's Tianxi)
Gave the picture to Lu Guang. Again, that person didn't speak or tried to hurt Lu Guang, making it more likely to be Tianxi and not Tianchen. Also, I can't see a reason for Tianchen to give them that picture with that message? Why would he want the police to dig up that old crime proving they have powers and are connected to Qian Jin?
Ran off. Pretty obvious from the info in EP8 and 9. Most likely so they can't get the phone and use her powers to kill more people.
