MAG015, Lost Johns’ Cave

- ‘(Caves) always used to feel like they were keeping me safe.’ The sensation of a sanctuary turning into a prison.

- ‘I was surprised to see that we were the only ones there when we arrived.’ I had a moment of, like we see in MAG012 First Aid, is there something that tells folks to stay away when an incident is about to occur? Did the same preternatural sense that had people filing out of A&E, have people staying away from the cave systems that day?

- Laura describes the anchors being in place and in good condition, but the fact that the entrance was ‘covered in wild plants and bracken’ suggests to me that the route has not been used in sometime. I’ve no idea what sort of visitation numbers the three county cave systems get, but I would have thought that at the height of summer foot traffic and management efforts would have kept it clear. The fact that it looks unkempt and unmanaged has me feeling something isn’t right here, like they’re seeing this place as it hasn’t been for a long time, like there are holes in the fabric of time.

- ‘...the gentle waters of the underground stream ran their course, as they had for thousands of years, undisturbed by the rough tread of humanity.’ See! There’s something hinky with the passage of time here, I tell you. If you’ve not got the passage of the sun to mark time passing, it’s gonna get weird down there. It’s a place of tectonic and geological time and that doesn’t work like standard measure time. That’s not something our little mayfly brains can cope with. We’re not meant to comprehend just how old the Earth is.

- ‘My ritual.’ We’re 15 episodes in and already I am seeing a reoccurring theme of some sort of divinity. The Entities, these Old Gods of Fear, The Powers, what ever they would be called, they seem appeased, at least momentarily, by ritual and sacrifice. They have acolytes and vassals to do their will. And although Laura here is primed to be a disciple of an Entity, it almost seems she is contested territory. She could be of The Buried as easily as of The Dark. It could be argued even The Lonely could stake a claim to her. ‘I rarely went caving with anyone other than Alena, and, while she indulged me, I don’t think she really got anything out of it.’ This communion with this place, it’s a very solitary act to Laura.

- ‘There were several junctions that were significantly smaller than the map would seem to show.’ Could they have not eroded larger yet? Has time and water not done the work that was seen when these maps were made? Are you perhaps a few centuries early? Could The Spiral be creeping in here, with a map that doesn’t make sense?

- ‘...accommodating humans was never high on their list of priorities.’ I think humans are perhaps a priority of The Buried, but I’m not sure I’d say the word ‘accommodating’ factored into it.

- ‘A squeeze can be a hole less than a foot wide.’ NOPE. Nopenopenopenope. Look, I am a big girl. I am built like Ruben painted his ladies. Yeah, no. Hard pass. Nope. Fuck no.

- There’s illusions to religious architecture to be found in the naming convention of the natural formations; ‘the Cathedral’, ‘the Crypt’, ‘the Dome’. I wonder if Jonny saw those names and purposefully gave the start of the statement a reverential light.

- I’d forgotten that they address the apostrophe thing in the body of the text, Alena saying ‘everyone puts the apostrophe in the wrong place, when talking about Lost John’s Cave.’ That there were two Johns that got lost down here. And although Alena finds the idea of company in that situation ‘sweet’, I don’t know how much that solace would count for in the end. Laura says it herself, ‘...the thought of having to spend my last days with Alena was a bit too much,’ this sort of thinking strengthening the grip The Lonely may have had on her.

- ‘...horrible thing to say about the dead.’ Do we know for sure she is dead? Is she not just lost? We see it in The Buried; Daisy alive but trapped in The Coffin after the events of MAG 119 Stranger and Stranger, and despite Gertrude killing him before feeding him to The Pit, Jonny said it didn’t do Jan Kilbride any good.

- ‘It went easily. Very easily.’ If you’ve got seasoned experts in your field, telling you something is going to be difficult, and if it turns out much easier than advertised, that’s alarm bells my friends.

- ‘Saying something or other about conquering fears.’ Hmmmmm?! What? Alena, any reason for that all of a sudden? And why do I feel, when it’s about conquering fears, like this was a case of ‘won the battle, lost the war with catastrophic implications’?

- ‘I broke the surface to see Alena laughing to herself, and holding a rock over the part of the water where I had been trying to emerge.’ OK, that’s just cruel. That’s just mean.

- ‘...she asked me how lost I was in a low, grating voice.’ OK, so was Alena momentarily possessed by The Buried to ask that question of Laura? Was that a voice that only Laura could heard that she mistook for Alena asking and hence Alena’s confusion at Laura’s snapped response? What exactly happened to Alena when the two were separated when she went first? What prompted her to go first?

- The next section is a bit not-fun to listen to for me because I have had a close call with drowning. In 2015, got caught in a rip tide and had a genuine 30 seconds or so of fear for my life, but it was really weird, detached sort of way like, ‘huh, well this is how I go I guess.’ I got out of it, got my legs back under me, walked up the beach and haven’t been above knee high in moving water since.

- ‘I started to shuffle backwards, and my feet touched against solid rock.’ And that’s when my blood wet cold. I remember were I was, with one leg over the fence into the Magellan goose pen.

- ‘The stone I had always believed to be my friend and protector was going to entomb me here.’ The fact that is a betrayal of trust in this way, makes this all the harder to listen to. But I think it could be serving as a good mirror to the relationship to the two sisters. She never says it but did Laura resent Alena’s presence in her home, did she feel penned in by her presence? And thinking this, I am even more grateful for my sister and her fiance for letting me stay with them for 5 months when I moved jobs and they didn’t feed me to an eldritch power. But did Laura break Alena’s trust, when they found themselves in this situation, separated and trapped, and Laura spends 2 hours and 43 minutes begging what ever it is that has them to ‘take her, not me.’

- The way the sound quality getting fuzzy and muffled as the candle light got closer and closer to Laura though and only clearing when she recognised it as daylight? *chef’s kiss*

- ‘Apparently I’d been underground for almost twenty-four hours.’ We’ve seen loss of time in the presence of or under the influence of The Entities before, Ms. Herne losing a night in MAG013 Alone. But I think there maybe something more actively disrupting the flow of time in the place, something perhaps long buried and then disturbed by the two lost Johns of the cave.

- I’m rooting around on the internet and, while I am finding references to two Johns of Lost Johns’ Cave, I can’t find an original source or even a story detailing them. But even if I can’t find anything, I like the idea of the two John’s being ours right here; the Archivist and Jonny. Leading us down this veritable mine shaft the is The Magnus Archives, promising us, yes, there is excellent writing and canon queer characters, they’re just back there, behind that cask of Amontillado...

- The fact that Laura’s statement has so many things that can be proven in accurate is just adding to the weird; the CNCC having no record of the permit request, other issued permits indicating the presence of other people at the site, where she was found not matching up, the presence of the burned out candles. See, the science and/or history nerd really wants to study those candles. Are they of modern make or are they something more archaic?

- ‘Martin declined to help with this investigation as he’s ‘a bit claustrophobic’.’ Don’t be mean to my boy! If there was even the slightest chance that this investigation would prompt a return to the site, I also would be noping the heck outta dodge. I don’t know if there is a correlation, between person’s size and if they are claustrophobic. As I’ve said, I’m a large girl, and though I don’t consider myself claustrophobic, I am scared of getting stuck. I would happily lie in a coffin or similar for an extended period of time, but the idea of going into those caves, nah mate not happening. And, I think also, with the whole of society telling big folk that they must be smaller, must be slighter, I thinks there’s a fear of being lost in more ways than one.

- ‘Tim managed to gain enough access to copy the footage. Best not to ask how, I think.’ I want to ask! Let me live vicariously through you, my Hawaiian shirted flirt of a son.

- “TAKE HER, NOT ME.” Not visual, just that audio for 2 hours and 43 minutes. And although he may be omitting it or flat out lying in her statement, she appears to have no recollection of it. I have never seen The Blair Witch Project, I never intend to. I caught enough of Three’s and LG's horror spoof ad back in 2016 to know I want nothing to do with it. Find Scopist Jobs Using Social Media

There are a lot of stressed out court reporters that need your help. Scopist jobs are in abundance. Many of you reading this article have been a court reporter in the past and you may be trying to find scopist work to supplement your income. So if you were a reporter in the past, you can definitely understand how stressful it can be.

If you are a scopist that has never been in this field and went to a internet scoping school I'm sure you have heard the stories. For instance, the next-day rush transcripts. The times when you have to have an up-all-nighter with coffee and Four Hour Energy shots to get your work completed. This profession is a very demanding job.

As a scopist it is your job to make life easier for your client. They need someone that is very flexible, reliable, affordable and accurate. If you do not possess these qualities, make sure to work on them before you put yourself out there on the market.

Now before you market yourself on Facebook or any other social network, you want to make sure you have the following set up:

1) A simple website or blog post - You can easily set up a blog post that gives your contact information, rates and how to upload audio files.

You could also create a simple website through WordPress that gives your contact information, rates and a tab to upload files as well.

Another place that you can send court reporters to to find out more about your services is LinkedIn. Create a small profile explaining what you do, your rates, how to contact you and where to upload their files.

2) File Uploading System - Your clients will need to send you audio files all the time. I recommend YouSendIt or SendThisFile. They have very cheap monthly fees and court reporters love it when they can send you their work immediately.

Now it's time to market your scoping business on Facebook. All you have to do is follow the instructions below.

1) Go to Facebook and log in.

2) In the top left-hand corner you will see a browser box that says, "search for people, places and things." Within that browser box type in the words "court reporter."

3) Within this box you will see that many court reporter groups will pop up. Join all of these groups.

4) Next, repeat the same instruction as number three but this time type in the word "scopists." Join all of those groups.

5) Next, rinse and repeat. Find other reporter groups and use terms like NCRA, stenographers, court reporting. Find as many groups as you can and join all of these groups.

6) The hard part is over. Now all you have to do is mingle within the Facebook groups. Send a total of five friend requests a day to different potential clients. You do not want to send too many friend requests a day or Facebook will penalize you.

7) Send a private message along with each friend request. Introduce yourself. Tell the them what group you found them in. Tell them about your business and if there is anything that you can do for them to contact you. Leave your website, blog post or LinkedIn page information.

You want them to be able to click for your information right away. You want them to leave Facebook in search of you.

Now in order for this to work you must be consistent. You want to leave different comments within these groups. I like to leave fun quotes. Get to know the people and try not to sound like a salesperson.

12/01/2020 DAB Transcript

Daniel 8:1-27, 1 John 2:1-17, Psalms 120:1-7, Proverbs 28:25-26

Today is the 1st day of December welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is great to be here with you as we collectively greet a new month, the final month of the year, the final leg of our journey, although this journey is a never ending one and…and should be as we find ourselves more and more in a relationship with the Scriptures instead of in some kind of obligatory devotional state that we never can quite get to. Nevertheless, it is December 1st and here we are. We made it to the 12th month of the year. I think that was…well…I don’t think that was ultimately questionable it was…just there's been days and weeks during this year where it’s like, “what is going on?” We made it. We made it. Well done! Let's dive into this month. Let's finish strong as we move through it and prepare for the brand-new year. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week. Daniel chapter 8.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in first John, today we could probably notice that John, at least in his letters…well…at least in this letter because where just at the very first one…in this letter he doesn't sound so dissimilar to James or so dissimilar to Peter and their letters in that you can claim faith but the evidence of like a faith filled life ends up being a transformed life otherwise you can say whatever you want. So, let me just quote a portion of…of what we read today. “The one who says, I have come to know Him, and yet doesn't keep His commands is a liar and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the love of God is made complete. This is how we know we are in Him. The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.” Alright, so we can see this is more than just giving lip service to a religious belief system. The evidence of your true faith in Christ is that Christ is within you, transforming you and that is evident. And, so, easy enough, easy enough here to step back and look at our own lives and ask what's the evidence here? Like I am my own evidence to where my faith is at. So, John’s being direct because this is something to be direct about, this is foundational. Like, the goal of our faith is that we would be transformed into the likeness of Jesus, that our lives would be lived like Jesus, that we would be the hands and feet of Jesus, that we would be the body of Christ in this world. And that's not just something you can say. Like, if everybody in the world just said, “yeah, I guess I believe in this Jesus. Okay, Jesus is now my Savior” and then just went about their lives and there was no transformation whatsoever nothing would happen in the world. Being Christlike isn't something we say it's something we are becoming. And that means we have to participate. We are in collaboration. Our role is to be aware, to be humble and to be surrendered to God's will and ways and to obey and walk with Him. What a relief. If you're walking with God, well, how much safer can that be? And being transformed isn't just for us and it isn't just so we have a better prayer life. Like everything…if we’re being transformed then everything is being touched. If you are being…if something is transformed, its very nature is altered into something else. That's pretty big. We are not who we were at all. And this continuing transformation process with in us that we would also know as sanctification touches everything about us. So, picking up with John and putting it back into John's words, “the one who says he is in the light but hates his brother or sister is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother or sister remains in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him, but the one who hates his brother or sister is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he’s going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.” So again, not dissimilar to James or Peter. Talk is cheap. You can say whatever you want, but if the words that you say are not consistent with the life that you live, then you're not living true and you're not living truthfully. And John says that this happens because, basically because our faith, our trust is put in the world instead of in Christ. And the world that…according to John is passing away. So, hope and trust are put into something that is not going to last, which is a theme that we have seen since we began reading the letters of the New Testament. So, we are at the beginning of the last month of the year and we have talked several times over the last couple months as we came into the last quarter of the year about finishing strong. And John…John is forthright today in giving us ways to look into that as we move toward the end of the year and finishing the year strong. Are our claims about our faith consistent with the lives we are living?

Prayer:

Father we acknowledge the question. It's…it's been a fundamental question for a very, very long time and it exposes so much within us. And if we were honest, we…we would say sometimes…sometimes like the first half of the day can be great and the second half of the day can be awful, one hour can be fantastic another hour can be horrible. We have an ebb and flow and we are tossed around and pulled in all kinds of directions and this shows us how much we swing back and forth putting our trust in the world, putting our trust in You and trying to make both reconcile when they won't ever. We were made for You. We were made for earth, but we are in this world and not of it. And, so, help us Lord. Expose the system of the world that is all around us and ubiquitous so that we can't see it unless we’re focusing our full attention. We can’t do that. We’re or pulled in all kinds of directions. But You are the most-high God. You are the sovereign Lord, and You know who we are, and You love us, and You are Fathering us. And, so, we trust in You to lead us forward. And Father these areas where the things that we say and the things we do don't match and are actually far away from each other, forgive us Lord. This has just exposed the sin. And help us as we repent to move toward wholeness. This is what a fully sanctified person will look like, whole, like Jesus, like the Savior. This is the goal and we want to be fully participating in it. So, come Holy Spirit and lead us as we move into the busiest time of the year. We hold on to You for dear life. We declare this and we pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

It just takes…it’s just a little bit more unpredictable because they then bring it…import it into the country and then send it through the regular mail of the country. And, so, at some point it ends up in the…in the local mail system and we have no control of and it’s just a lot cheaper. So, that cutoff is today. His blood sugars are over 1500. He’s a in the ICU in Las Vegas and it doesn’t look good. He was diagnosed with coronavirus two weeks ago and didn’t want to go to the hospital. He had to diabetic seizures that me and my 15-year-old son had to bring him out of. Finally, we convinced him to go to the hospital on Tuesday. On Wednesday both Elisha and I started being symptomatic for coronavirus. Family, I need you to really pray okay? I love you all very much.

We’ve been trying for a baby now for two years and it just doesn’t seem to be working out for us the way we had hoped. So, I just ask that you pray for us during this time. Hi DAB family it’s Friday, November 27th and this is Peggy in California. I called a few weeks ago and asked for your prayers for my son Mason and I have felt the power of that in my conversations with him. I just thank you so very much and I ask that you would continue to pray for him because I think he’s on the brink of making some…a real positive move and he needs to be resolved and it’s going to be hard but I just pray that you would continue to reach out with me in that. And I also want to just lift up all the other adult children that have been mentioned in so many of the calls. It is definitely a struggle that many of us share. And, so, I want to lift up this prayer. Lord I pray that You will give all of the adult children of DAB family the discernment they need to understand the clear choices between good and evil and right and wrong, between what is life giving and life destroying and between a path into a secure and good future and a dead-end street. I pray that they will not allow the world to shape them but instead they will be shaped by You. I know that the influence of the enemy can come in so subtly as being nearly unobserved until it’s too late. But I pray that the Holy Spirit given wisdom and discernment they can be prepared for the enemy and anticipate his plans. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Bye family God bless you all.

Hi this is Pamela from Pennsylvania calling again. This time I just want to thank Brian and his family, China. And I never said anything, but congratulations on the beautiful baby that you’re welcoming into your family. I’m welcoming my third grandchild in February, which is a beautiful thing. My daughter’s a missionary and they’re…it’s just a wonderful loving family. But I wanted to thank Brian for the commentary and the long-standing wisdom in your words in understanding the Scriptures. It comes across very clear and I appreciate that very much because if anybody kept track of my other phone calls I did grow up in a very dysfunctional place and that led to some very dark places in my life. But…and actually all three of my children have gone to Christian school and because of the influence of the Christian school that my daughters went to I became saved and came to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. So, I’m very thankful for that. And since that time little by little God has been putting the pieces back together in my life the way it was intended to be according to God. So, growing up in a dysfunctional environment I’m way behind all the people who grew up in a Christian environment and I’ve been scampering to catch up. Brian, I just appreciate your help. It’s making things make sense. So, I appreciate that. Thank you very much.

Welcome to my latest summary of recent ecommerce news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & Etsy! This covers articles I came across since the early February report, although some may be older than that. I am a bit behind due to my trip last week and other events, but some things here are a bit time-sensitive so I wanted to release this now.

I am still looking into setting up a new ecommerce business forum where we can discuss this sort of news, as well as any day-to-day issues we face. I need some good suggestions for a cheap or free forum space that has some editing tools, is fairly intuitive for inexperienced members, and is accessible. If you have any suggestions, please reply to this post, email me on my website, or send me a tweet. (I will put out a survey once we narrow this down to some good candidates, but if you have any other comments on what you want from such a forum, please include those too!)
