Nothing Good On The Radio

Charlie Cale x Reader

Very Short Story

What if instead of staying in the recording studio after hearing the radio host spout homophobic stuff, Charlie Cale walked to her girlfriend, and complained to her?

Charlie Cale walked up to her girlfriend, Jackie, as she sat at a picnic table. “Babe, can we go back to the car?”

“Yeah, sure. Are you ok? You look like you're about to blow a fuse darling,” Jackie replied.

“Yeah, just… let's get out of here.”

“Ok?” Jackie replied, unsteadily. They walked to the car; well, more like Jackie was chasing after Charlie’s quick, short strides. As they arrived at the car, Charlie got in and slammed the door shut. “Alright,” Jackie said getting in as well, “What the hell is wrong? You’ve been acting all pissy since you came back from that radio recording studio.”

“It’s nothing,” Charlie said angrily, resting her head on the steering wheel.

“Yeah, and I’m straight,” Jackie sarcastically replied, “Chuck, just because I can’t lie to you, that doesn’t mean that you can lie to me. It’s a two-way street and I know that you agree with that so what happened in there that was so bad that you won't tell me?” Charlie raised her head back off the steering wheel and looked at Jackie.

“When I walked into the studio, there was somebody recording the radio show that Facisim Dog loves but the asshole had moved on to being homophobic and I just lost it and couldn’t be in there any longer. I need to go back in there and see if the guy knows anything but I don’t want to,” Charlie replied.

“Well, I can’t make assholes stop their bigotry, but I can help you recharge,” Jackie comforted. “You want to lay down for a few minutes before you go back into the war zone, baby?” Jackie asked.

“Yes please” Charlie replied, getting in the backseat. Jackie followed and they both sat in the back in silence, Jackie reading, and Charlie laying against her girlfriend.

There's No Ace In Detective

Charlie Cale x Reader

Charlie Cale is anxious about telling her girlfriend that she's asexual and it worries her girlfriend because Charlie is pulling away from their relationship.

Emily POV

Chuck and I have been dating for about a month. It has been amazing, and extremely fun but recently Charlie has been pulling away. I don’t think that it’s a case because she has solved like 10 cases over the time we have been dating. But if it’s not a case, I don’t know what it is. I miss her and I am scared that I did something. She’s on a case right now, and since she always hyperfocuses on her cases, I can’t talk to her about something so important while her mind is off in detective land. She is really close to finishing her current case so I’m hoping that we can talk during dinner tonight since I invited her over.

3rd POV

Emily got home from her work to find Charlie passed out on her couch. Since they have only been dating for a month, they don’t live together but they did exchange keys. Emily put her bag down quietly and walked into her bedroom to order food so that she didn’t disturb her girlfriend.

Emily POV

“Baby?” I called out. I walked over to her peaceful, sleeping form, and shook her arm slightly. She startled awake.

“Oh hi love. Sorry I didn’t mean to fall asleep,” She said, blushing lightly.

“It’s no problem darling. I ordered use some food and it should be here in just a moment. Do you want to get set up at the kitchen table?” I asked.

“Sure,” She replied.

Charlie POV

I was so anxious to come over to Em’s house. We’ve been dating for a month and I really like her but I haven’t told her that I’m asexual yet and I’m scared for what she will say. This is the first relationship that I have cared about this much and I don’t want this to end over my sexuality. Realistically, I know that she won’t care. She always says that she thinks that everyone deserves to be loved no matter gender, race, sexuality, etc. But there’s still a voice in the back of my head that tells me that I don’t deserve her and that she will think the same. I walk over to her kitchen table and sit down, waiting.

Emily sits down soon after with our food. We’re sitting in uncomfortable silence as I am stuck in my head and she is just sort of looking at me. I just have to tell her. If I don’t tell her now, I won’t ever.

3rd POV

At the same time, both Emily and Charlie speak at the same time. “Are you hiding something from me?” “I’m asexual”

They both stop and look at each other. “Your ace?” Emily asks.

“Um, nothing,” Charlie says as she runs out of the room and into Emily’s bedroom.

“Wait, love! Come back, I’m not upset!” Emily said, running after her. “Chuck, come on. Let me in. I don’t care if you are ace, I love you, and being ace is just another part of you that I get to love.”

Charlie opened the door slightly with teary eyes, “You promise?”

“Of course darling. I love you more than anything and sex isn’t a necessary thing for me. I just need you.”

“I love you,” Charlie said.

“I love you too,” Emily replied, “Do you want to watch a movie?”

“Can we just go to bed instead?” Charlie asked

“Of course darling”
