Gonna drop this quick and run. But hear me out. I will start by saying that Ricky may very well have genuine feelings for Gina. I'm not dismissing that. I just couldn't help but notice somethings about Ricky's reactions here:

As soon as EJ and Gina start fighting in 3.05, Ricky immediately covers his ears (kinda like a child does when their parents are fighting at home). I get the feeling he was used to his parents fighting a lot when he was younger, and his instinct was to cover his ears. He also looks at both EJ and Gina in 3.06 during the canoe scene. I think it's at that moment that he realizes just how much EJ and Gina truly care about one another, and how much they're fighting for their relationship. Thinking back to S2, he was also fighting really hard for his rela with Nini. But he learned to let her go because that was for the best. He actually gets that advice from his mom, who he understandably holds a lot of resentment towards. I could be wrong, but I read his expression in the 2nd gif as someone who has seen his own parents fail to save their relationship, but sees two people, despite all their recent tensions, still fighting for their relationship.

Earlier that day, Ricky comes face to face with his dad's new girlfriend and is presented with a gift from Mike via Miss Jenn:

I definitely think Ricky still feels uncomfortable at the idea of his teacher and father dating, even if he's trying to act like he's okay with it. When he receives the gift, he's not exactly happy about it. It's sort of surprises him, but not in a good way. Perhaps it's a not so subtle reminder that things have really changed for him back home. Later that day, he sees EJ and Gina trying their best to save their relationship, then hears this from Jet that night:

Jet, being "little Ricky" and all (3.02), admits that he feels like it's his fault Madison and Maddox broke up. Does that not sound like how Ricky feels about himself in terms of his parents marriage? Perhaps he also blames himself for the downfall of his parents relationship. He couldn't save it or fix it. Instead of dealing with his own problems, Ricky is throwing himself into Jet and Maddox's issues to try to save their relationship. I think the majority of Ricky's issues in terms of romantic relationships always goes back to his parents, which they still haven't fully addressed. Three seasons in a row, and Ricky's main storyline revolves around his love life. If there's any chance for Ricky to truly move forward and find the path to true happiness, this season has to end with Ricky single and not ready to mingle and being okay with that. He hasn't taken any significant amount of time for himself to himself. I also think it's difficult for him to see EJ and Gina have the kind of summer he was expecting to have with Lily. While I don't think Lily broke his heart, I do believe she broke his trust. He even blames himself for why things fell apart because he said "How could I be so stupid?" in 3.01 during his breakup w/ Lily. He shows up to camp and the first image he sees are a genuinely happy and loving couple (Portwell). It seems like Ricky wants what they have because he was expecting to have a fun summer in a new relationship. Jet's line above definitely hit a nerve for Ricky because I think it reminds him of how things fell apart for his parents. In order to escape the pain he's feeling, Ricky tries to "fix" the relationship problems around him. One last thing, I don't think it's a coincidence that 3.06 is the first time this season that Ricky's acknowledged his past with Nini (also in conversation with Jet). In Ricky's eyes, he's had two failed relationships in a short amount of time, and to overcompensate for that, he tries to fix everyone else's relationship problems instead. I'm wondering what the last two episodes have in store for his character arc, because so much of it so far has been romance-based. For this character to actually progress in a positive way, he has to learn that it's okay to not be okay and that true happiness doesn't come from being in a relationship.

HSMTMTS Maddox Autism Analysis

This one's long, and not guaranteed exhaustive cause my memory is Meh, at best.

General Info

So just from Promotional Material for Season 3

Maddox:

Techie Who always follows the rules.

The most excited person for Camp.

Hates Change

Comes to the same camp every year

From these, we already can see the building blocks of a targeted interest and a need for routines. The always following the rules is reminiscent of Autistics not breaking rules due to simply not thinking to.

Once the show itself aired, Maddox pretty quickly showed multiple indicators as well. For the sake of organization, I'm going to break these down as Tics and Tendencies and give a few examples, rather than by episode.

Irritation/Panic at unexpected changes in schedule

Saylor mentions frequently that Maddox is really struggling in Season 3 because for the first time, something is drastically disrupting this yearly escape. Unlike Ricky who, while panicking at the change, is able to actively work against it, Maddox struggles with fighting the change and usually must physically remove herself to prevent a more extreme reaction.

Maddox begins already thrown off due to Jet being sent with her to camp.

Dislikes when the Auditions is interrupted by Jet arriving an hour late.

She isn't hanging out with EJ this summer, likely due to feeling thrown off that he brought an entire troupe of friends.

Literally everything in Woman in the Woods - and going to her hiding spot to avoid a full meltdown.

RCOSL changes how she normally does the set direction in order to cause drama - again runs off after her and Jet's fight.

Really struggles with Madison's initial appearance at camp.

Realizes she signed to go to NZ before getting with Ash, and completely removes herself from the post-production celebration that LITERALLY every other character attended.

Very Literal Speaking

Several times when Maddox accidentally gets herself in trouble its because she says something that doubles as a pointed metaphor, even though she was being literal.

"...that kind of bond is....Forever"

"...you just got to commit to one side, of the boat....or else you'll fall in..."

"You have two minutes" - and actually timing it

"....and well, life has other plans..." - not realizing Ash could take this as an attack on her relationship.

"...Yeah my crystals haven't charged in like a month" - thinking Jet is literally taking about what she was actively doing.

Scripting

Maddox has multiple moments where she communicates using a clearly practiced script, and a few where she struggles once someone doesn't react how she expected and she did not have a response ready.

The Woman in the Woods story is scripted - she gets interrupted and starts mixing up scripts when trying to get back on track.

Truly awful improvised scripting during RCOSL. Also not having the words to tell Carlos to lay off the whole 'hot for Jet' thing.

Memorizing all the lines she would need as a PA on the flight.

We literally see her scripting her confession to Ash.

Fumbling through talking to Ash about the NZ move, as she didn't think it was a conversation she was going to need to have.

Info Dumping

When Maddox gets excited, she frequently starts info dumping without thinking about it, usually while also kind of tuning out whats happening around her.

Several times in 3x03

Talking about her favorite nigh before she realizes no one is listening.

again when leading the group to the tents, when she is giving the rules and safety information.

Info dumps about rising signs before Ash gets upset and leaves.

Snapping

Maddox tends to snap when deciding what to say to someone.

When she calls out Carlos for changing the cast list

We can hear a snap when she first asks Ashlyn if she was a Leo rising

She snaps when getting annoyed at Jet and Ricky when she directs them

She snaps after finishing her script for confessing to Ashlyn

Tapping/Clapping

Maddox claps and taps things when idling or when she is in between actions. Generally, if she's not got her hands in her pockets and isn't holding something, then she's doing this.

Maddox taps her hands together after Ashlyn catches her attention about the letter.

Clapping hands together as she talks when entering the honeycomb.

Maddox's face tends to either be way more expressive than expected for the response she is giving, or way less. When she is alone, or with friends/Jet, her expressions are more free. she spends less time guessing and just lets her face to whatever its going to.

During RCOSL, her expression is almost unchanged, probably due to having to think about it constantly.

Once Newbie Night started going downhill, she paid more attention to seeming fine.

She is a lot more open in the fourth season, except with Quinn, where she remains professional.

Stays by the wall for much of movie night

Building set/Managing costumes alone, instead of adjusting to help.

Operates more or less ALL of stage alone using a switchboard. Including in Season 4, when we know she has stagehands available.

Goes to hiding spot after argument with Jet.

Goes to probably commit balloon homicide before Jet stops her.

Hides from Ash to avoid NZ conversation.

Mentions that she doesn't actually attend Camp Prom all that often and normally goes to prank the boy's bunks.

Its okay, she'll probably get better about this with her now robust support system.

Anyway, there is definitely more, but this is what i can remember without immediately re watching the show again and going episode by episode.

Okay but the fact that this season had two new additional queer characters (Maddox and Madison, even though Madison was only in one episode), as well as having Ashlyn and Big Red both come out in a sense or at least both confirmed queer as well, plus a casual Seblos kiss was actually really nice to see, especially from a Disney show. Like, I know I joked about Ricky coming out as bi, or Jet being queer, but the rep in this season was actually pretty refreshing and I just kind of liked how it was done.

okay so i see a lot of madlyn posts cause you know they're everywhere and a common theme is that madison = trash and at first i was like??? what did she do??? this is just another case of fanon vs canon but then...me and my sister really thought about her and i have come to the conclusion that madison is in fact trash (or at least trash in regard to relationships)

camp is two weeks right? and mad² (yes i called them that) only saw each other at camp. that means that maddox was clingy for only two weeks out of the course of their entire relationship (and maybe not even cause they broke up before the last day of camp)

so, madison, your girl was super clingy out of nowhere for two weeks when she hadn't shown signs of clinginess before and your first thought was to *checks notes* break up with her during the camp prom...

yeah...that makes sense...not

now take what i'm about to say with a grain of salt since i've never been in a relationship, let alone a closeted one, but if you're dating someone and their behavior was suddenly different, wouldn't you ask them about it? wouldn't you try to get to the bottom of why they're acting like that?

i get that they're teenagers and don't always think things through but if we let that be the ultimate excuse, this show would have zero discourse and that's not fun (I'M KIDDING)

so basically, madison is a questionable gal and i'm no longer confused with the hate she gets (ashlyn would never treat maddox like this)

I’m starting to think that the people who ship portwell are currently in college because I just can’t get behind Ricky at the moment. EJ has grown a lot from season 1 and is trying to make summer great for his friends. He’s trying to make things work with Gina without disappointing her.

Ricky literally had his chance had he looked past nini in season 1 And let her be with EJ he could have been going strong with Gina. He chose to go after someone who was in a relationship because he was still head over heels for yet in this season he’s pursuing someone who is seemingly happy in her current relationship.

Would I be mad if EJ and Gina broke up due to there being no love there? No. Would I be mad if it was because Ricky kept playing his game of let me try to impress the girl I like so she’ll leave the other guy? Yes. Being where I am now in life and being strictly into women I can say with my whole chest I’d chose EJ because he’s trying to be his own person and not reliant on others.

Ricky should take some time and work on his feelings because he went from nini to Lily like it was nothing he does not need to be with Gina until next season if that. It’s also okay to be single and figure yourself out first.

Should the writers break up portwell over something stupid that EJ did or because of Gina’s stubbornness it would actually ruin the character development of both. Should they have EJ stir up the drama it would also ruin the character development? But yeah I’m starting to think portwell shippers are past the high school years or just mature and have seen drama like this unfold first hand.

In other news I enjoy Val she’s doing her best to stay out of the drama. Maddox…if Madison breaks your heart I will be coming for her.

spoiler alert for season 4, this will be about the ash/red/seb situation.

So we had Ashlyn, who emotionally has been cheating on Big Red for quite a while now, LITERALLY almost kissed Maddox during a song WHILE STILL WITH BIG RED (and Maddox who was STILL WITH MADISON), and at the end of season 3 basically stringing Biggie along even though she does not feel romantically attracted to him anymore.

Big Red, who ACTUALLY cheated on Ashlyn, kissing Seb while watching a Harry Styles movie(?), both claiming it didn't mean anything to them and yet it was Big Red's "bi-origin story", and somehow he STILL went to Ashlyn and said "i now know more than ever that you are the one for me"?!?!

and Seb, who cheated on Carlos with Big Red (even though he was the one jealous at Carlos for flirting with guys during his spring break vacation in season 2) who was RIDDLED WITH GUILT, and even though we know he can't lie he was COMPLETELY FINE when he visited the camp in season 3, which according to Big Red is AFTER the kiss happened.... and also hey!! he dated a girl!!!*

This season really said "pansexuals and bisexuals are cheaters, sorry about it". They completely ruined their characters, and I am so pissed.

(Not to mention, the way everything was so suddenly forgiven by anyone and not made into a bigger deal, and at some point i feel like Kourt and Carlos were even encouraging Ashlyn to cheat with Maddox but idk. the entire storyline felt icky.)

*and yes I know Seb said that he was gay in the final episode, but i'm still including it bc of the awful writing. i think he kind of got used as a scapegoat, or at least thats what it feels like.

I don’t totally hate Madison (definitely not even close to my favorite or anything obviously)

But here’s what I think about the things I don’t like about her:

-She pulled away and dumped Maddox when she was acting clingy and seeming, not like herself, and Madison didn’t think to ask why she wasn’t acting like herself?

A simple, why are you acting weird or what’s going on would have sufficed I think??

-And like, clearly she didn’t even tell Maddox Ashlyn called? I feel like maybe they were trying to get Jojo Siwa back for a moment where she lies about the call or smth but they couldn’t. Idk it just feels like that kind of moment. (However I don’t feel like Madison’s like that despite how not great she is in general.)

(I feel like they wrote her character to be a stand in that could be a plot device and very little more, so she’s not good but possibly an option even if she’s not redeemable)

-I can’t decide if the balloons feel passive aggressive or not bc they didn’t until today and now they really do, so.

-telling her how much she misses her after SHE broke up with MADDOX? Trying to reminisce with her to bring back the positive experiences between them?

She was like ‘I broke up with you because I couldn’t handle it when you were suddenly really clingy and I didn’t bother to ask why, but you should date me again because I missed you’ like, okay maybe I do hate her.

Character ask Maddox?

**I started this project pre-season 4, so all answers are for season 3 and earlier**

Favorite thing about them: Maddox has been through a lot of loss. Whether intentional or unintentional, she had to grieve the loss of her brother as a friend, lost Madison (who she seemed really connected to) and lost a lot of friends. Despite it all, she still found a way to come to camp, put on a brave face, and keep showing up. She did what she could to push past the Jet issues (which she still definitely cared about him, like when he left camp) and she put her all into the play/being a major part of camp. Her resiliency is admirable because a lot of people would not give camp a second chance after the stuff she went through… but she did. 🥹

Least favorite thing about them: this might be a really hot take, but I don’t like how much she pushed Ashlyn to come out s3. Coming out is such a personal thing and you would think that after she had such a bad experience thinking Jet outted her, that she would be really respectful of other people’s sexualities, but at one point she loud and proud basically told Ashlyn she was gay when Ashlyn still hadn’t figured it out. It was just… inconsiderate at best and hypocritical at worst?

Favorite line(s):

*just the entire “Camp Shallow Lake” song and how perky she sings it 😭

“I’m sure mom and dad would be thrilled” the plot twist was so??

Val: Guys we lost Jet. Maddox: “WHAT?!” And then when she finds out he’s not dead, he just went home 😭

*squeals* “it is so hard to see my… man?!…. with another lady!”

“I just don’t want to let my guard down and get hurt again, you know?”

I know it’s just a scene, but I love love love the right place scene. Everything about it. Maddox watching in the background, seeing her and Jet grow up together, their old selves missing their past selves… it’s all just SO good

OTP: Madlyn

nOTP: Carlos’ imaginary pairing of her and jet (just… yikes)

brOTP: Maddox and Gina (I love sayso irl, but this actually has nothing to do with it. I think Gina stood up quite a bit for Maddox, reflecting Ricky/jet’s relationship. When no one else seemed to like Maddox, Gina was willing to give her a chance. I wish we would have seen more side by side scenes of Ricky/jet and Gina/Maddox… like this post I made about how I wish the “Right Place” scene would have played out. It would have driven home how the four had symbiotic sort of relationships with each other, each character a valuable piece in every arc and how rina further parallel each other, even when separated).

Something I expect from them season 4 (if applicable): Before s4 happened, I remember anticipating that Madlyn was going to be a will they/won’t they type thing where we got hints to them but that they were never officially made canon. I really assumed Ashlyn was going to still be finding herself by the end of the show with like, some massive hint at Madlyn (such as Ashlyn sliding Maddox her number). I was very wrong lol

Random Headcanon: Everyone is confused about Maddox and Jet’s age right? So I actually have two personal theories about this. One: they are twins, which is why they are so similar in age. Two: they are step or half siblings that just call their mom and dad “mom and dad” because they’ve been around each other so long. IMO I think they are half siblings, which is why genetically they share some traits but not all. They were raised by the same parents (maybe Maddox’s IRL dad sucks or something so they were both born to the same mom, but have different dads), so they just call them both “mom and dad”. I have family members that do this so it doesn’t feel like reaching too much for me

Unpopular Opinion: I don’t find Maddox better than Red for Ashlyn. I think both of them are really good to Ashlyn and I saw chemistry with both. I would have rooted for her to be with either character.

I dont feel bad for EJ either 😭 idk why but like he keeps going after girls insecure or hurting after some mess with ricky. And then puts them through the ringer in a worse relationship. Like my boy. Stop being in relationships 2k forever.

This is going to turn into a little bit of a rant so read at your own risk lol.

Literally EJ keeps going after girls after they feel rejected by Ricky and they are in vulnerable places (e.g. Nini after Ricky didn't say I love you and Gina feeling like her feelings weren't reciprocated). It's like he swoops in for them and I don't think its intentional but I do think it's weird that his two main relationships in the show started that way.

Also it's like he is so desperate to be in a relationship (Jason Earles I'm talking to you when I say this), but he is the one who goes from girl to girl. Let's not forget Valentine's Day when he literally said he had never spent a Valentine's Day without a girlfriend. Maybe instead of jumping into a relationship with Gina he should have worked on himself. Because this 'character development' that pw fans keep talking about I just don't see it.

Another thing that really is bothering me about EJ is that he continually snipes at Ricky about the woods thing (which they invited him to 😵‍💫) but also continually asks Ricky for advice about Gina. Now that part is just unbelievable to me - he is seriously going to keep asking the person who slapped him over Gina for relationship advice... instead of you know talking to Gina.

Plus while I get that directing the camp musical is stressful there is really no excuse for the way he has been treating Gina this season. And honestly, in my opinion, the relationship is all about EJ - especially with fans of the ship. Example - their only meaningful conversation (and I'm being generous calling it meaningful) in season 2 was all about EJ and Gina lifting EJ up when he didn't want to go to Duke. Then, in the season 2 finale EJ makes her feel horrible and undeserving of love by rejecting her. This scene has always made my blood boil because he cut her out as soon as he didn't think he would get what he wants from her.

Fast forward to s3 and every conversation the two have he makes about himself - Gina wants to talk about getting Anna and being excited, well no can't talk about that we have to talk about how he is freaking out about being director. Gina wants to spend time with EJ in the woods - no he's too busy, but not busy enough to embarrass her in front of all their friends and make out she's doing something wrong with Ricky. Gina specifically tells him she doesn't want to talk about the future and EJ goes on a rant about how the play needs to be successful for his future. Then finally, despite EJ being the one who should be grovelling, Gina (with the help of Ricky 😢) sets up an elaborate promposal and what does he do? He rejects her. Literally don't even understand this rule - why couldn't he just go there separately with her? Plus - if Maddox and Madison broke up at the prom last year, I would presume they went together. In which case - is this even a rule?

Honestly, the way that his fans treat Gina frankly disgusts me - like yesterday I went to the tag for a few minutes and saw someone saying that 'Gina didn't receive anything EJ said to her' - putting all the blame on her, when from where I sit (val voice) Gina has done nothing wrong. I think that most pws are Gina haters - do you know how many people I see who say they like Gina... but only in 2B? It's insane because 2B is the worst for me as a Gina fan - she lost her agency and spunk and she was basically a shell of herself who existed to try and prop up EJ.

My last point is that pws love to try and say that EJ shows up for Gina and my question to them is - when? Because the only time I can think of is the stupid granola bar (which is just a weird scene imo). If I really stretch I could say the fake dating part, but to me that's a no - because Gina didn't need to be saved. When she isn't around EJ she is perfectly capable of handling herself and she could have simply said 'no' to the random North High guy. It's always Gina who is doing the work in the relationship. Gina being his sounding board. Gina doing the morning show with him because no one else agreed. It is always Gina showing up for EJ and he never bothers to do so for her.

Season 4 wishes

Ricky and Gina: They are cast as Troy and Gabriella, respectively. After the kiss they will try to keep their relationship private from the public eye. However due to Ricky's newfound heartthrob popularity and Gina's rising success they will struggle due to the media pressure, and because of that they will pressuring themselves, in private. Thy will have an argument towards the end of the season, that will end with Ricky declaring his love to Gina, and both of them going public with their romantic status. Gina will also deal with having her mum back at home, and Ricky with his future, with him realizing, that, as much as he loves performing, that is not what he wants to dedicate his life to. They would talk about both, the past and the future of their relationship. They end the season rock solid.

Big Red and Ashlyn and Maddox: Ashlyn as Mrs Darbus, I guess, while Big Red could be Zeke or Coach Bolton. Maddox is a techy. Maddox (as well as Jet) will change schools to East High. Redlyn will start the season both trying to juggle their newfound sexualities with their relationship. Ashlyn will talk to Big Red about her discovery during camp, and after trying for a while, they will eventually break up mid-season. Meanwhile, Maddox will try to date Madison, but it will end sooner rather than later due to Maddox evident crush. I don't want the typical cheater bisexual gf plot for Ashlyn, but I do think that her and Maddox will end the season together. I've decided to guess that Maddox and Big Red are the same age, so they will bond over tech and their future. Big Red decides to study something about cooking or bussiness, while Maddox decides to study something related with an engineer of some sorts. The three of them will be considered LGTBIQ+ icons by the fans of the doc.

Jet and Kourtney: Chad and Taylor. Kourtney and Howie will break up at the beggining of the season (if they are not broken up already). Her and Jet will dance around their feelings during most of the season, finally ending up together. Not in the finale, but some episode nearby. Kourtney's anxiety plot will continue, mainly due to college spectations. I want her to join a lot of clubs and activities and to eventually feel overwhelmed, and have an anxiety attack mid-season. During the rest of the show she will try to project and relax. Jet will have a hard time trying to fit in in high school only ever truly hanging out wth Ricky, Kourtney and Maddox, who are a grade above him, I want him to become friends with Seb because I feel that would be a really ironic and hilarious relationship. Kourtney will become a fashion icon, of course.

Seb and Carlos: They will portray Sharpay and Ryan. They will talk about their echonimically different upbringings, and about the effect of the documentary. They will fight (and deep down I want them to break up for a more dramatic effect, getting back together at the end of the season again, or on the next one), and will have numerous and multiple arguments, because while Carlos is a star, Seb isn't. Seb will believe that he is not going to become a star, being the only one of his friends without any impact on the doc ('cause I mean, what Big Red said is simply iconic). They will eventually make up, and Carlos will tell Seb that everyone has got a different timing. I also, just for fun, want an episode where Carlos and Seb are working on the farm.

EJ: I'm incredibly excited about his storyline this season. I want him to be part of the crew of the hsm4 movie, lik an assistant for Corbin os something like that. He will start feeling older, and kind of left out of his high school friends, as he is no longer in high school anymore. His dad and him will have a tense scene during the show, with Ej even threatening of moving out (or actually doind it, lol). Maybe Kylie Catrall's character is working with him or something like that. They may have romantic undertones BUT THEY SHOULD NOT DATE, at least not until the very end. EJ and his dad will eventually make peace with each other. Ej will realize his dream is to work as a director or something behind the scenes.

Then, talking about scenes that will give me certain self-fullfilment, I will love for EJ and Ricky to talk about the whole Nini-Ricky-Gina-EJ square, maybe Gina joining them later. I want a kind of rivalry between Jet and Big Red because both of them think they are Ricky's bff, and him ultimateley revelling is Gina (I saw this in twitter I believe, and I thought it was perfect). And I would absolutely love if Zanessa would talk with Ricky and Gina. Literally a dream come true.

Then, about the songs (this post is coming longer than intended), I want rina to sing can i have this dance and just wanna be with you. The first one, while rehearsing or something like that, and the second one during the actual play. I don't mind who sings scream, I'm aware that is basically between EJ and Ricky. I want it all could be between Carlos and Seb, or Carlos and Kourtney.

I don't have much headcanons for any of the other songs, I believe.

What do you think about Maddox/Ashlyn? I have gotten the impression that Ashlyn is your favorite character in hsmtmts

Of course I love it!! I actually did ship Ashlyn and Gina a little bit in season 2 (I don't anymore, though), so Ashlyn has always been someone I've been getting wlw vibes from.

But, I am a little cautious about how they are handling it at the moment.

Ashlyn does have a boyfriend right now. Now, I don't ship Redlyn that much, but I am not against it either. I've always found them cute, but I haven't been super invested in them. Nonetheless, I don't want her to cheat on Red.

I also don't want her to just quickly break up with him either. I know Ashlyn probably will have a moment of questioning her sexuality, it seems like that's what they are leading to right now, and I do want her to talk to Red about it, so they can solve it together.

Now... Maddox. I see Maddox as someone who both just wants to pretend like this year's camp will be as great as the previous years she's been there, while I also think she might just project herself onto Ashlyn. Maybe she sees her as "oh, she's like me, I wanna be the person to help her like I wished someone helped me". However, she jumps to conclusions a bit too quickly. She and Ashlyn do have in common that they are a bit socially awkward. I do understand why Maddox acts like this, even though it comes off wrong.

But I don't want Maddox to simply be the queer character that just exists to help someone else realize they're queer. I want something more. I wanna know what happened between her and Madison. I want to know what is going on with her and Jet and I want her to have her own storyline that's not about her for some reason wanting to set up Val and Ashlyn.

Ok, I get it. Maddox sees herself and Madison in Ashlyn and Val, and she just wants to help. Though, again, it does come off a bit wrong. I also get Ashlyn's defensive "I have a boyfriend!!" - The way I see it right now, Ashlyn does start to question her sexuality, but she is at the stage of not really accepting it yet. She has her boyfriend, she has her mostly "perfect" life. Now someone comes and tells her they think she's in love with someone of the same gender? Remember just a few episodes ago when she learned she was a leo rising. Thinking she had it all figured out and then someone comes and tells her otherwise, yeah, that is hard.

This situation very much reminds me of another D+ show called "All the same... or not" (original title is "Tudo Igual SQN"). In that show, there is a girl named Trix. She seems to have the perfect life - she has her boyfriend, has the best grades and is trying to get into a film school. She also coincidentally has red hair. Then she meets Pri and suddenly, things starts changing for her. Throughout the season (there's only one season this far), she finds herself listening more to what Pri has to say rather than her boyfriend. But then her friend comments about how close she and Pri seem to be, and that offends Trix. She immediately goes "Hello, I have a boyfriend?". The thought of liking a girl, doing anything out of the ordinary... doing anything that would make her different, when all she wants is just to fit in... I think if you watch that show, you would see many similarities between Trix and Pri and Ashlyn and Maddox. (Though, if you do watch it, I need to warn you about the last episode. Something happens there that just got me staring at my screen with my jaw opened for like 5 minutes. It isn't Trix and Pri related, though)

Conclusion to this would be that, I would love for Ashlyn and Maddox to be a thing, but I do hope they handle it in a good way.
