I'm not well, bitch.
If this backstory has taught us anything, it's that Dragon cares so, so much.

Chapter 1099 Spoilers
The calm before the storm...
This chapter sets up a ton for next week while simultaneously paying off things that happened hundreds of chapters earlier. Kuma's title as "tyrant," the timeskip islands, even the name of the pacifistas all have an explanation (except where Bonney got her fruit lol). I especially love the montage of islands, each one has significance to Kuma trying to find a cure for Bonney (but why did he visited Mihawk? How much does Mihawk know about Kuma??)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To add to the "everything connects" of it all, Becori got his idea of burning the kingdom from Goa and Grey Terminal!
Tumblr media
For set-up, Kuma says he'd "make a deal with the devil" and then we immediately cut to Saturn- Oda is continuing the visual comparison of the Elders to demons, significant since Kuma is a man of faith and called a saint by Vegapunk. Also, Vegapunk's good intentions have already been ruined by snail-tapping, similar to chapter 1095 when the well-meaning doctor tried to protect the Buccaneer secret but was immediately discovered.
Tumblr media
Vegapunk plans to cure Bonney with a stem cell transplant but I doubt things will go to plan. The gov will probably capture Bonney and Kuma will probably become a cyborg to protect her, which Bonney doesn't know about because she thinks she'll be cured naturally at age 10, not from Vegapunk's procedure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm still verrrry suspicious of what will happen to Bonney though. It's been implied in earlier chapters that the admirals know her and feared her escape, and that Vegapunk has at some point created a "living, breathing person." What are you planning, Oda?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple non-plot details: Dragon says to "go where the winds of fate take you," interesting since he most likely has a wind-related devil fruit. Also, more blue stone appears on Bonney's face over time. She just can't help herself, she wants to go outside!

No break next week :)

One Piece 1099 spoilers
Early scans are a bit dodgy with a few grammar mistakes, but I use this site a lot, and they tend to upload with TCB after, and generally get it pretty right with the first scans.
Anyway! Who thought there would be such Cora and Kuma and Law and Bonney parallels. AND, ah, Vegapunk, a man really blinded by science. Did he hoodwink Kuma? And, Kuma said he would be part of the cyborg cloning project to help Bonney no matter what, but thinking that he loved the name Pacifista because he thought the cyborgs would be instruments of peace and he'd be satisfied if even one of his cyborg clones helped someone. Ahhhh.... Great chapter.
The Revo panels were great too! Dragon with his tat, and Belo Betty <3.
The king talking positively about Goa Kingdom burning. Oda is really good. I'm sure he has a team keeping the threads all together, but wow.

Pacifist & Prodigy
Tumblr media
This chapter really felt like it was bringing the flashback back to the context of a bigger picture arc in Egghead. While also giving me more or less a bottled version of what I'd expect ten years ago from a flashback for Bartholomew Kuma and Jewelry Bonney. The last few used their story as a prop, I compared it to Forrest Gump, where we see God Valley and the founding of the Revolutionary Army. But here we're getting back to how this all ties into our main story.
There's two big takeaways for me. First, check out Abdullah & Jeet making a cameo! Cool on it's own, but that now leaves just Cavendish and Orlumbus's crews to pop back up since Wano was coming to a close. Fundamentally it makes sense for the Fleet to come back into play relatively soon. You get them in Dressrosa as you set your sights on the Emperors. WCI shows you the threat that scale of operation provides, Wano shows you how much you can do with those kinds of numbers. I still say, even if it's a choice of a few options, a final member serving as a Quartermaster suits that well. From there...we have to acknowledge a familiar concept cropping up again.
Tumblr media
Since it's been a while, the reason I still have to wonder about Kiku is pretty simple. The ambiguous ending she had after the arc she had, the archetype suiting this type of delayed reveal, and how Egghead keeps jumping through these stories where our girl still ends up being the one who threads the needle on all of them. We've looked a lot at that through how certain pairs are often doing things adjacent to each other. Subtly asking "Anyone straddle this line?" Sentomaru & Stussy being the most blatant to me.
Kuma & Bonney are doing that here. Pretty simply. One's a bright, prodigious little girl making the best of what is honestly a rather sad, stifled childhood if you stop to reflect on it. The other a stalwart, pacifist defender of the masses who has curried an inaccurate, demonic reputation. Speaking of demons...
Tumblr media
This last stretch is so perfectly creepy I adore it. Seems so smiley and charming and sweet...but Vega says it best. Dragon wouldn't like it. This is gross, twisting his arm into what we know ends up being just awful and the scene honestly does a pretty good job of showing Vegapunk isn't just naive. Yeah, he doesn't intend to do harm here but what is the road to hell paved with?
Man I hope the next chapter closes the flashback with the same trick as the cutaway. Snap back to like, an hour after we left off with one panel that raises tons of questions.

Earl Hall sighed and said, “Feynapotter has invaded Lenburg.”
“Extra! Extra! Feynapotter invades Lenburg!”
The showcase of the war in what feels like real time does a really good job at enhancing the negative feelings from the war. Like, man. Step by step, shit is raining down on everyone. And it's worrisome.

Chapter 1099. The chapter was mainly dedicated to showing events we already knew happened, not a groundbreaking chapter by any means, though it does well to tie things back to the present day.
Full post below the cut.
Hi Oden, nice hairstyle! I imagine it takes a lot of maintenance, good thing the Tanuki Triad are on the job! Love seeing the Wano cast on fan requested cover pages. There's something funny about the chapter title being "Pacifist," then an image of Oden right below. A man known for his extreme love of fighting.
In the chapter proper, we see Kuma obtaining his "tyrant" title and becoming a pirate, Dowager Connie, the beginning of Kuma's cyborgification and why VP moved to a new lab, all stuff we could reasonably figure was going to be shown before this flashback's conclusion. What I'm more interested in is Bonney eating her devil fruit not being seen, her Sapphire Scale being cured, and Abdullah and Jeet appearing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ooh, the narrator boxes talking about the "Solo Revolution of Sorbet Kingdom," and focus on newspaper articles not being an accurate reflection of the events are a good seed for how things may play out on Egghead in present day too. I bet Morgans wrote that article.
Belo Betty appearance! Her talking about filling the position in the RA Ginny had reminds me of the second division commander spot on Whitebeard's crew remaining vacant for so long. Oden and Ace. Kuma being a figure head for King Bulldog, and Bonney imitating Connie work in some nice ideas about roles too.
Tumblr media
Vegapunk is a miracle worker to have cured Bonney, if a bit aloof about how some of his inventions are used, and how easily he's willing to stray into less savory aspects of science. Kind of guy Iceburg would likely hate. Not going to stray off into a side tangent here though.
Bonney being cured! I am glad she isn't a clone, and just gets to be Bonney, the only Bonney. Clone stuff was starting to feel overplayed, I like her being cured much more. And her playing on Sentomaru's axe is adorable.
Tumblr media
The technique VP applied to cure Bonney seemingly relies on lineage factor stuff, which has me thinking about the Smile fruits. Toko and the others being able to experience genuine joy by the end of the series, would just be so thematically resonate that I'd be very surprised if it didn't happen in the future. Then Bonney eating her devil fruit being an event we don't see reminds me of Kin and Raizo having done the same, and the potential that Monet's devil fruit may still be around somewhere. Abdullah and Jeet are a nice little reminder of the Grand Fleet, who I'm still calling to appear soon, which includes the Kozuki Clan now. They don't all need to arrive, though I think one or two will be here.
Let's get into what happens during every 100th chapter milestone.
100 - The East Blue crew state their dreams and head towards the Grand Line.
200 - Luffy gets some good attacks against Crocodile.
300 - Party on Skypiea after the battle has concluded.
400 - Crashing the Rocket Man into Enies Lobby.
500 - Rayleigh's introduction and the crew searching for Camie.
600 - The crew reuniting at Sabaody.
700 - Arriving in Dressrosa, beginning the plan to bring down Kaido.
800 - Formation of the Grand Fleet.
900 - Bad End Musical.
1000 - Luffy knocks down Kaido with a Red Roc.
That's a fairly wide range of events, though the crew are always involved in each 100th chapter, often working towards some goal and or being involved in something that sparks some big emotions. The groundwork is definitely there for 1100 to return the focus back to Egghead, a grand victory over Saturn and the fleet surrounding the island would fit in nicely with previous 100th chapter markers. I'm excited for 1100!

It is interesting though 'cause, since we have no fucking True Clue what the hell Crocodile's actual real End Goal with Cross Guild is right now (does he want to get One Piece and fight the Strawhats+Shanks, does he want to get Pluton from Wano (and/)or does he want to destroy the World Government?? We don't know), that we just have a fuck ton of theories on what could happen, but no way to really tell what the actual direction this entire plot thread is going to be
And one I've seen a lot of people suggest was Cross Guild recruiting more of the former (/OG) Shichibukai into their ranks
And I just find that idea so fucking interesting
Because this is where one needs to remember that Oda based the OG Shichibukai on the Seven Heroes from Romancing SaGa 2. The Seven Heroes were a legendary group who once in the past saved the world from a great evil (before disappearing and turning into an evil for the game's protags to defeat). Just reading the descriptions you can see how each of the OG Shichibukai match up to one of the heroes respectively. And the inspo would be fine and dandy by itself, like just some fun trivia about what inspired Oda. But the Seven Heroes were specifically created and lead by Wagnas, with Noel as his right-hand. Wagnas happens to be the character Crocodile matches up with, and Mihawk just happens to match up with Noel. And here we have Crocodile starting a new organization with Mihawk by his side, with unknown true goals. And we do have that one World Government that needs to get overthrown so the world can be "saved". So like.
Suddenly, the idea that Cross Guild could recruit some of the other former Shichibukai (to maybe help take down the World Government?) doesn't sound too out-landish at all
Especially because Moria alone is already like an actual contender for someone who could maybe join Cross Guild. Like, assuming he's alive and made it out of Fullalead with Perona. 'Cause with Absalom dead and Hogback gone with the wind, Moria should have like nothing else left but himself and Perona. And while knowing Moria he's going to be Very Happy about reuniting with Perona, like... where's he gonna go? What's he gonna do if the two escaped Fullalead? But because Perona and Mihawk already know each other, Perona could very easily become a bridge to getting Moria with CG, especially if he's still wounded etc from the escape, Perona would want her boss' to survive and she'd trust Mihawk to help probably. And god knows, if Blackbeard tried or even succeeded at stealing Moria's Fruit, the man could have some legit good intel on Blackbeard (and how he steals powers) that he could then share with CG, something Crocodile could appreciate. Also, if Crocodile and Mihawk want to ensure the Marines are too scared to come after them, getting Moria in their ranks would help with that.
Then there's Kuma. And. Well. Assuming Kuma doesn't kick the bucket in the next few chapters. If Kuma is still somehow alive and his soul/memories can be put into a body (some people have been suggesting his memories could be implanted maybe into a Pacifista or that giant robot on Egghead or maybe even his Seraphim, or maybe just memories could be returned back into his original body), and if he'll still have the ability to near-instantly travel across the planet then I'm putting my money on him returning to the Revolutionaries to be honest. But if he loses that ability, I don't think he's going to be sticking with the Strawhats to be honest. That said, he'll still need somewhere to go (with Bonney?), and with the rest of the Revs on the other side of the Grand Line... Cross Guild could, potentially, be the nearest, safest place for him, if for no other reason than the other former Shichibukai might be his safest bet right now. Especially if Crocodile ever did have any involvement with the Revolutionaries. But indeed, this assumes Kuma isn't Turbo Perma-Dead Forever, which remains to be seen.
I know a lot of people love Doflamingo and would love to see him back. Personally I want him to stay in jail, where he deserves to be. <3 Also I don't think Crocodile would ever want Doflamingo working for him, let alone go out of his way to travel to Paradise to let him out (though if they did, they could also release Weevil while at it, since he's also stuck in Impel Down) (But honestly, unless someone else goes to break Weevil out and Doflamingo just escapes while he's at it, don't think he's getting out)
Quick honorable mention to Law, since he is also a Former Shichibukai. His crew got nuked by Blackbeard but I doubt he'd join Crocodile and Mihawk for any reason, especially if he's still in the race for One Piece (assuming Cross Guild isn't) (Like Buggy is but Buggy might skedaddle for all we know)
But with the Shichibukai, this just leaves us with Hancock.
Thing is, last we saw her she was still in Paradise, wanting to reunite with Luffy. It is entirely plausible she could (or may already have) set out for the New World if she feels like she has to leave Amazon Lily to protect her home-- which she might have to, considdering without her warlord status the Government has gone after her. But indeed, if Hancock is on the run and heading to the New World, surely she'd want to find Luffy. So why would she ever join Cross Guild? She doesn't like men (aside from Luffy), so surely she wouldn't trust that disaster crew with a clown for a mascot. But again. This is where "what the fuck is Crocodile's end goal" comes in again. Because if he wants to destroy the World Government and wreck the Nobles' out of orbit... Well. I don't think convincing Hancock to go back to the place where she was kept in slavery for years would be easy. But also. Perhaps, just perhaps, she could be persuaded into committing some delicious revenge under the right circumstances (whatever that might be).
IDK man, there's potential here, things could get so interesting with Cross Guild and whatever the fuck Crocodile is planning (vs how Buggy's mutiny rolls out)
It is kind of funny though, how like the best case scenario for Cross Guild Shichibukai Reunion would be like. Kuma and his daughter. Moria, Mihawk and their collective daughter. Crocodad and his sharp boyfriend. And Luffy's wannabe fiancée. (The clown is optional)

Vasco Shot was the former court jester for King Bulldog and was a horrible influence on Bekori
Besides that physical description of King Bekori sounding somewhat similar to Vasco Shot, there's the fact that both are incredibly vile people and they both love setting their own people on fire if it gets them what they want. Not to mention that kings tend to have jesters, so it wouldn’t exactly surprise me if they revealed that Vasco used to be the jester for Bulldog until he found out about Vasco’s evil deeds (Among those being a corrupter of a younger and more impressionable Bekori) and sent him to Impel Down.
