Maybe it was a bit of a relief, Asuka really had no hope of beautiful language herself. She was always too much, too hot, to brash.  Her blue eyes flicked back down to the magazine she was using to distract herself as she waited for Misato to finish ... whatever she was doing. “I mean correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t like every inch of this city have cameras covering it. And like ... aren’t you a computer whiz?” she asked, not really reading the magazine articles as she flipped another page. “Just find out who did it.”

Anime-only adaptations I really enjoyed

I really loved how the anime staff pour their love in the flashback and in the parts where the characters are described the most (bc, in the end, TR is a story driven by characters, not plot), so yeah, kudos for the kokonui, kakuiza and Kisaki centric parts that were not in thee manga and that were added as a ponderate choice by the anime team.

In chronological order

When Takemichi calls him with his nickname "Kaku-chan", Kakucho hesitates before killing him, while in the manga (ch.134) when Izana orders him to kill Takemichi, he just does it with no mercy. The result is the same, but in the anime we saw Kakucho's struggle

The parts about Koko and Inupi, their past and their fight (2x21 or ep.8 of the 2nd coure of S2). It is a very emotional and crude part also in the manga, but in the anime, thanks to some changes/adaptations/voice acting and music, manages to be even more emotional and impactful, while remaining faithful to the manga. That's how an adaptation should be done

First of all, the kiss

while, story-wise, it's clear the kiss is not fanservice, but an important moment to understand their past and their complicated relationship, no one can deny the anime kiss looks even more passionate than the manga version

Among the people that approached Koko in the manga for money reasons, only Izana and Taiju were mentioned (ch.159), meanwhile in the manga, besides them, were added also Madarame Shion - an anime only addition-

and the Haitani Brothers, as a nod to Wakui's birthday art for Koko

I already talked about it here and partially here but, in short, I like how the anime underlines even better that Koko considers himself unredeemable and incapable of detach his own identity to make money illegally

and honestly, peak adaptation: the transition to younger Koko to Tenjiku!Koko saying the same line, to make us understand that Koko still feels incredibly guilty about the past...

... and the fact both Inupi and Koko cry in this scene, a moment that there wasn't in the manga and that was an incredibly beautiful and touching addition

but while manga!Koko -ch.159- at this point is just resigned and "colder" in his decision to stay with Tenjiku, just like also manga!Inupi already calmed down, anime!Inupi is both fed up with the situation but willing to makes things right and very determined..

while anime!Koko is destroyed, he doesn't even stand up when Inupi punches him (I already talked about it here)

the little addition of Kakucho in the flashback when Shinichiro goes to say hi to Izana to take him out with him. Izana's favourite people "interacting" was nice (too bad the animation quality was a little meh in this episode, but I understand we can't have peak quality all the time)

Kakucho with Izana when he finds again Karen by chance and she tells his she's not his biological mother and he's not related to any of the Sano. It the manga Izana was alone, adding Kakucho was nice because the situation is still terrible, Izana sees his whole world collapsing on himself, but at least he has Kakucho

last one, Kisaki's "I wanted to be like you" that humanizes him a little. In the manga his death was quick and brutal. We can understands, reading the manga, he had this superiority/inferiority complex towards Takemichi, but the anime explains it more clearly (I talked a bit about it here )

Maybe there's something else that was an anime-only adaptation that made sense, even improved the already existent narration, but I probably don't remember it. These are the ones that imho, are the most important both for the characters and the narration.

I love how Liden Film followed faithfully the story but added "more heart" to it, that's what a good adaptation should do

I had stopped being able to read the naruto manga way back near the beginning of shippuden (it was still coming out at the time) due to the store I had access to not bothering to carry the volumes anymore (man am I old 🤣) then different fandoms caught me and years go by so my mind has the sasuke naruto meeting with sasuke draping himself over naruto to threaten him and sakura being competent with healing kankuro and fighting sasori... so I was...confused when I recently fell back into the fandom why sakura would even be with sasuke...as I felt mature medic nine fighter girl would have understood that she'd had a crush and moved on.

Like, Naruto and Sasuke had so much stuff between them I get why they haven't let each other go.

So it seemed weird as hell that sakura would even still "like" sasuke... as her original feelings stemmed from childish "he's so cute and broody" which is okay in a 12 year old girl but less okay as an adult woman...

The naruhina I though, ah, he and hinata must have had many moments in all the parts I've missed, and bonded...oh...she just...endangers herself and confesses to which naruto doesn't react at all...and then their married...

As a shonen manga I figured we wouldn't get a blatant narusasu ending (even though they are the best) ...I'm even a cheery multishipper often for characters I like but...it was so sad. I'd of been happier to have it end with shion just randomly turning up to have naruto keep his baby making promise...

Anywho sorry for blathering on.

I adore your art as well, it's super pretty and I need all the naruto x sasuke content to heal my shipper soul...

Yeah, Sakura never matured in that department. Even in the sequel where she’s supposedly married to Sasuke, Ino derisively says she’ll forever stay a girl in love. Like the story had to spell it out for readers. There is this weird vibe between her and Sarada when it comes to Sasuke.. I don’t even know how to describe it but it’s creepy. Even when there is a kid involved somehow and they speak of marriage, Sasuke gives her no reason to love him romantically and it surprises her still that he showed no concern for her life whatsoever. Sasuke, who expresses through action in most cases, is still as indifferent as ever towards her. 

Sakura has moments where she shows some care for characters, mainly driven by her being a medic, but emotionally, it is bizarre how little she cares about Sasuke and yet, at the same time seems to only care about him... if it involves herself. She doesn’t even question why Sasuke does what he does or tries to understand how he feels. Even when she gets fed little snippets of his pain or the source of that, she doesn’t try to find an answer. In the very end she doesn’t even give a shit about his reason to travel or defend his words regarding "redemption". She felt entitled to an apology while she was the one going up to him with the intention to kill him. Even when he tries to explain why he wants to travel, she just cuts off his words because she wants to go with him regardless of his intentions or goals. I get why some people wanted a development for Sakura where she’d be able to let that crush for him go, but story-wise? That would take a lot from Kishimoto because there is also a lot of insecurity involved too.. And frankly, she's very much a red herring :')

Meh, nh... I have nothing to say. 

Well, SNS-fans often say their story is very tragic. But that’s not just how we feel, it IS a fact that Naruto and Sasuke went from receiving a semi-sweet/bitter-sweet (depends on how you look at it as we got a resolve but not a clear resolution yet) in ch 698/699 to a bitter ending in 700 where they suddenly not only didn’t have what they wanted, but certainly not what they needed either. To combat that in the sequel, they shoved all the problems of the world onto a bunch of aliens... distracting everyone from the hypocrisy of the system. Neither Naruto or Sasuke got to work on the thing they wanted and their internal desires were completely massacred for the sake of these kids. And both of them have shown that if they don’t have what they need, they will fail the thing they ultimately want. Meaning, the Shinobi world will forever stay the same while spitting on their dream for the future and the trauma they had to go through because of it. It’s not even about SNS or the story being Shonen... but the concept, which Sasuke talked about at the end that was supposed to be a vehicle for a better world is completely retconned. 

... but I’m happy that besides that, SNS is still widely and largely celebrated regardless. And that says a lot! I’m happy to hear you like my art 🥰💕 that really means a lot, thankyou so much!! (I’m trying to heal myself through them too ;-;!)

the whole thing with tenza is SO fucking good. before the story even STARTS he understands that criminality and morality are two separate concepts—from the very beginning, he's actively seeking to save someone the shogunate was determined to execute unfairly. and then he just DIES. we meet him, learn he's bold and stubborn and virtuous and kind, and then we watch him die trying to protect nurugai because he knows her status as a death row criminal is undeserved. and GOD talk about haunting the fucking narrative. his self sacrifice weighs so heavily on shion and nurugai both, and it takes shion the entire story to fully come to terms with tenza's death and his own sense of justice for nurugai. as for other characters, an obvious example is that fuchi doesn't claim "crime and evil are not the same" until chapter 91, while tenza is dead by ch 22. it's just so interesting to introduce him (and kill him off) so early in the narrative when he understands something everyone else needs about a hundred chapters to figure out

I've always thought that this god from ch 1 looked a lot like Waka.

and was confused as to why and how that could be possible when we know the god that killed Shion looked nothing like that at least in Wakas eyes. Shion clearly says the god she was looking at was beautiful and in light of ch 51, we know how she truly felt about Waka.

This is the same god that killed Shion but from Wakas perspective. Completely different form than what we see above from ch 1.

Terrifying and hideous as Waka says. Do they look like that to her bc she has Alulas god eyes?? or do the gods show humans what they believe to be most beautiful in the world? Waka being the exception bc she is partially a god so she can recognize their true form.

and yes this is the same god that killed Shion, they admitted it to Waka themselves.

But I’m only two or three chapters into Higurashi Ch 2 and here’s all I have to say

Transmasc Mion????? (This is mostly a joke. But hear me out )

She keeps calling herself “old man”, literally says “sometimes I wonder why I wasn’t born a boy!” I know it’s as a joke, but it keeps going. There’s just so much.

Even Keiichi says something later like “If Mion were a boy, we’d be like two peas in a pod. Actually, it’s kinda like that already!” 🤔

NOT TO MENTION SHION who confuses me to no end rn (is she real? A persona? The game does a great job at making it so hard to tell I love it) is described as a lot more feminine than Mion- like yeah I guess she is. But the fact that gender and femininity keeps coming up (especially when used as a contrast to Mion-) kinda 🏳️‍⚧️??

ALSO the part where Rena talks about how appearances can be deceiving, and how most people are almost the opposite of how they appear. I know it was implying that Mion has a softer side (Shion), but come ON man. That’s just… trans coded line-

Also there’s a line where Keiichi is thinking about meeting Shion (Mion) again and is like “well, I can call (Mion) Shion, right? I mean, if Mion is just having fun trying out a different personality I should go along with it”

I guess that last one only really works if Shion and Mion are the same person, but idk Mann

Tbh this whole chapter so far is pretty trans coded does anyone else remember Mion teasing Keiichi about wearing the maid outfit

What happened to Kakucho when Izana was in the BD? Because Izana said that Inui had him by his side when he was the 8th president in ch. 140, but where tf was Kakucho?

I actually don't think we got an answer as to what Kakucho was doing while Izana was running the black dragons. I've always assumed he was involved but not an official member of the black dragons. Like he comtinued to serve Izana and did what Izans wanted but wasn't actually part of the gang.

Though Inui doesn't mention Shion either at any point who was another high up member of the black dragons and Inui never actually states he was Izana's vice captain. Just that he was by his side. Actually a vice captain never comes up at all so it's possible if that role existed during Izana's time Kakucho held that. Though if he was i feel like that probably would've been brought up at least once. If it were true then Inui probably would've mentioned it. The only thing Inui actually says about Kakucho is that he's "bad" and the way he says "this guy" makes it sound like he's never seen him before.

That just makes me assume either Kakucho was working in the shadow of the black dragons under Izana's orders or he wasn't involved at all. Though I doubt he wasn't involved, I mean one of Izana's dreams was to create a new era with Kakucho and that's not something you can do if Kakucho isn't involved. I really doubt Kakucho would've just accepted not being around Izana during that time too.

ok so ive read the fast pass chapters up onto this point and i have no idea where's it's going -- my main complaint with the webtoon is that the pacing got really bad after ch 23. and there's not much room for development of characters

and tbh you should read the webnovel version (here is a link) cause it's just... better in those aspects KGSJEKGS. i mainly blame the webtoon writers for where this is going now cause idk how much influence hybe has on the story, other than the characters and general plot.

I think that Akane died when she was 16, she didn't look a lot older than that.

Since she is 6 years older than Koko and Inupi, it mean that they would have been 11 for Koko and still 10 for Inupi, at the moment of the fire, few days before Inupi's 11th birthday.

Because if Koko was 12 and Inupi 11 (or already 12), Akane would have been 18. So almost adult. And she doesn't look like a adult.

So i bet that she was 16/17, second or last year of high school, and that the boys were 11 for Koko, et almost 11 for Inupi. And they had still a year to do in elementary school.

Akane stayed in coma for few weeks, months. Inupi had already his short hair that he had in Shinichiro's ship when Izana visited him, Inupi and Koko had already grow up to look more like teen than that children. I think that they had already started their last years in school for some weeks when Akane died.

Koko was just a kid, he didn't manage to have enough money to help Akane in a so short period of time but he had enough time to get a reputation and having still a lot of money

But It couldn't have been only few weeks. It must have lasted for few months, maybe 6 months. Inupi has just a shirt when he call Koko to tell him, so it was warmer outside. Maybe it was summer or end of spring.

After that, Inupi was in 8th Black Dragon, then in 9th Black Dragon, then send in juivie.

Inupi is older than Mikey for a year. He was 13 when Mikey was 12. When Mikey beats the Black Dragon, it was almost his 13th birthday. And Inupi was in juivie at this moment. We don't know the date of his liberation but it was after Shinichiro's death, so after Mikey's birthday. He was 14 at this point. 16 in the BD Arc. and 18 in Mabu Arc.

So he must have been almost 11 when the fire happened, had spent his birthday at the hospital and Akane "survived" for at least 6 months, while Inupi was in his last elementary school year. Inupi has been send in juivie during his first year of middle scool and got released during his second year. But it must been less of a year in reform school.

Koko is few months older than Inupi, since he's born in April. But they are in the same year. So Koko was already 11 when the fire happened.

Inupi is born on October 18 1989, while Koko on April 1, 1990, but they're in the same year at school because of how the Japanese scholastic system works (there was a typo in the first character book, the official twitter made a post to confirm that). Inupi, Koko and Taiju are all in the same scholastic year. If Koko were born on April 2, then he would have been a year younger! (school years start on April 1 and ends in March and kids has to be 6 already to start school, they cannot be, let's say 5 and 364 days old lol, at least, this is what I understand, this system is a little tricky for me, it's very different from the one used where i live lol)

We don't know exactly when the fire happens, but since they have long sleeves with no coat it's probably autumn or spring. And unfortunately we don't even know how long she stayed in coma, but i agree some months could have passed. Here Koko says 1 month was passed since the fire (ch.159)

so either she dies after 1 month of coma (and in the meanwhile Inupi also gets out of the hospital), or some generic amount of time passed, no more than a few months tho. I agree with you, I feel some months should have had passed in order for Koko to start making some money

My Dumb Thoughts on Higurashi- Watanagashi Part 1

the second of my Higurashi reactions. had to break it in two because of picture limits, but I hope you like it! My other chapter reactions can be found with #dumb-thoughts-series. Okay, so based on this, the main divergence point is that Keiichi didn’t go to the junk yard and meet Tomitake, so he’s not suspicious about the events of the dam project, and now even sees it as a cool part of the village.

Prediction time: This chapter, Shion or Mion is going to be murdered, but Keiichi is unsure which one it was, and he begins to think the survivor is the other pretending to be them.  Whether it really is or isn’t is left ambiguous.

freaking gods, I was listening to "Ch∆mp1on", I didn't realize the album was on shuffle and right after the song finished GkLk's Voice Drama aka Shion's Trauma played, I don't understand a single word of Japanese (except maybe I think he said something about "escape") but it was very strong, at the end of that whole part I was like: oh well, that doesn't sounds good does it? ಠ⁠_⁠ʖ⁠ಠ
