Thanks to @negagogo93 who let us scan his postcard collection, we've finally rescued this iconic piece  ラティアスとラティオスのいる風景 by Ken Sugimori, dated March 2002 on the back.
Tumblr media
Gen 3 concept art by Ken Sugimori featuring the infamous Latiken and their mysterious blue-haired trainer, possibly  2000. Enhanced by us from  a pic taken by twitter user kurowasan at the 2012 Game On expo in Brazil. One of the Gen 3 Proto-dex entries might refer to this very Pokémon, it reads:
"Sightseeing Pokémon, A Pokémon that loves to fly with a human riding it. It quietly flies and is completely comfortable to ride. When it tires, it rests with its wings floating atop the sea" "Has a calm personality, so it dislikes fighting. Its horn(s) have magnet-like cells that act as a compass."

Again I haven’t been up to date at all with pokeani but a part of me thinks that with this new OP, it might be the last of this season. Because if they were going to do the Satoshi/Gou duet, they could have done it first or they could have saved it for last, so it really feels, to me that they might end this.
The games coming out have been getting a separate mini animated shorts (Twilight Wings, the new Legends Arceus shorts). They obviously have ideas to animate but don’t want to compete with the PokeAni. Yes with the current formula (research fellows, PWC) they’re okay to not be stuck on the newest region but at the same time they feel almost outdated.
With the new trailer for Scarlet and Violet, the trainers looks more like western cartoon kids (Snap, that Bidoof short, Detective Pikachu) then the iconic Sugimori (and co) style. I think they might be departing from that style (much like how YGO 7s departed from the Takahashi style) So if that’s the case, it might be the end for Satoshi as well. Or if they want to restyle Satoshi too, XYZ to Alola took a while to get used to. Don’t know how well it’ll translate. (Looks at CG Mewtwo Movie)
Satoshi with all his cool bracelets and bands and SHINJI coming back all feels too good. If they wrapped things up with Satoshi vs Shirona/Dande or whoever is top in PWC, it would be a satisfying way to end Satoshi’s journey.

I swear every Pokemon Starter reveal looks fake as hell until you see it’s from Nintendo
Like I spent a half hour scrolling through twitter thinking these were fake leaks before I found the actual video.
I partially blame the way they revealed them though, like Sword and Shield had a full CG trailer to introduce the starters (hell even GO in this video had a CG teaser for the Alola starters) but for the reveal of these they just... put them on an oil painting that looks more blurry and worse than the regular Sugimori art? Like the game itself looks fine but what an anticlimactic way to reveal the starters. Once I saw the official art they started to grow on me but that paining reveal really fucking sucked.

Oh, how I miss my youth and my POKEMON YELLOW Edition GAMEBOY Color... -_-_-_-_- #Repost Credit: @alfonapplepie • • • • • • Pokémon and Donkey Kong! 😁🕹️🎮. Two celebrated franchises in Nintendo's arsenal: one since the old arcade days, and the other being the world's largest media franchise. . The ownership and management of Pokémon has always fascinated me with how interconnected it is with other Nintendo franchises. 😄 . While Nintendo owns the main trademark, the franchise is currently handled by "The Pokémon Company". Originally called "The Pokemon CENTER company" 😏 created to manage the Pokemon Center stores (*cough*). It changed itself to "the Pokémon Company" after getting bombarded with requests to put Pokémon into everything, from toys to breakfast cereals to band-aids. 😆 The Pokémon Company is owned by three specific companies: Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures inc. . Game Freak, is the developer of the main Pokémon games (and where there is much gnashing of teeth from die-hard fans currently) and is where the Pokémon series creators, Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori, now reside. . Creatures inc. used to be known as Ape inc, the developer of Earthbound. They handle toys, the trading card game, and most importantly, a lot of the CG modeling for Pokémon. This alone may complicate Sword and Shield's scheduled release due to the game's assets being handled by more than one company. 🤔 . . . . . . #pokemonfans #pokemonyellow #pokemoncentre #gameboycolor #handhelds #handheldgaming #portablegaming #pokegram #pokemongram #pokemonforlife #pokemon4life #pikapika #donkeykongland #gameboycollective #gameboycolor #retrocommunity #retrogamers #donkeykongcountry #nin10do #nintendogames #igersnintendo #nintendofans #igerspokemon #任天堂 (at Miami, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1MXpnXh9pE/?igshid=13r2bifjxl3cc

Ken Sugimori starter trio! Featured on the cover of the 1997 Pokémon RGB 大百科 (Encyclopedia). A digitally colored version was apparently used as the front page of the original Game Freak site (don't know when, I found it archived on some old fansite, those are pure gold).
And you can download a zip with an uncompressed larger version and the sources for the digital one (7.31 Mb), mind it might not be the original file used on GF's site.

You asked for it... we teamed up with Fleckaben to restore this iconic 1997 piece by Ken Sugimori from the original Game Freak website titled 雪祭り (Snow Festival) featuring Red, Seel and Articuno making snow sculptures ... (original file name CA01_02.jpg, Mind these have been heavily reworked, hence the full-res original might look somewhat different if released! ) Enjoooy!
