Archbishop of Milan and a Cardinal, Saint Charles Borromeo (1538-1584) is renowned as a catechist and was a key figure in the Counter-Reformation's combat against the Protestant Reformation, along with Saints Ignatius Loyola and Philip Neri. He was responsible for significant reforms in the Catholic church, including the establishment of seminaries for the education of priests, lay fraternities that encouraged Catholic education and virtuous life, and the first Catholic "Sunday schools." He is the patron saint of bishops, priests, and catechists.

Hebi anon with another funfact!
The shoebill stork being a scythe is very appropriate as like a reaper's scythe the shoebill kills is prey by using that giant and powerful beak to severe its preys head off (though the bird does it through SHEER BLUNT IMPACT)
Other facts include, being four feet tall with an 8 foot wing span, one of their most common prey are juvenile crocodiles, they're not storks and are instead related to pelicans, and they vocalize by rapidly clacking their beak which can sound like machine gun fire.
HOWEVER. Despite being so scary, they're near harmless to humans to the point where you can get close to one and even it's nest and it won't be aggressive. Shoebill storks in zoos even bond with their caretakers and will walk up to greet them.
With that in mind, it makes sense that the Shoebill is the basis for the weapon that leaves the human unharmed
Once again, 🤝 🤝 🤝 the facts are much appreciated <33
(Also, can I just say — I googled what Shoebills look like and LMAO. Absolutely terrifying.)
"They vocalize by clacking their  beak which can sound like machine gun fire"….
I like this statement because Sakura and Aguilera start out on the battlefield. They’re enemies. (Of course until they do their lil speedrun and end up with their relationship,,,where it is at now). So essentially, the Shoebill talking/communicating with what sounds like gunfire is a perfect way to symbolize how Aguilera and Sakaura grew so close. It was during their battles.
I went googling for “Pelican Symbolism” to see if I could find a deeper meaning to Shoebills being within the Pelican family. And man, when you start googling animal symbolism you truly get the wildest sh#t:
Tumblr media
(.....catholiceducation….what is even going oN here…)
Man I have nO IDEA where the heck any of these spiritual meanings for animal symbolism come from, like, at ALL….and I suspect finding sources for where they’re getting this info would be a long, tedious, and maybe even uneventful process where I only dig a pit and end up with nothing. Not even a latter out of the pit.
That said–
It’s kind of eerie how well some of these descriptions fit what’s happening with the Shoebill stamp and Aguilera/Hana intrapersonal relationship as well as the Aguilera/Hana and SAKURA relationship.
So yeah, I like how pelicans have this representation of forgiveness, letting go of the things holding you down so you can soar to new heights. Because when this original ask got sent, Hana’s problem was that she needed (for the time being) to detach and separate herself from her Aguilera identity/past, as it left her at a ‘dead end’ so to say. 🤪
Tumblr media
Even more interestingly is the historical context and meaning behind the Pelican / it’s symbolism

Do I even need to say anything?

Spiritual Sunday: Nazareno (Feast of the Black Nazarene of Manila, Philippines) (Part I) The Feast of the Black Nazarene (Filipino: Pista ng Itím na Nazareno), also known as the Traslación after the mass procession associated with the feast, is a religious festival held in Manila, Philippines that is centered around the Black Nazarene, an image of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated annually on January 9. The Feast of the Black Nazarene commemorates the anniversary of the translation or the transfer of the image from its original location at a church in modern-day Luneta Park to Quiapo. The image was brought to the Church of San Juan Bautista in Bagumbayan (now Luneta) until May 31, 1606 by Augustinian Recollect priests. In 1608, the icon was enshrined at the Recollect church of San Nicolás de Tolentino in Intramuros. It was moved to the Saint John the Baptist Church, which is now commonly referred to as the Quiapo Church, on January 9, 1787. The "solemn transfer" eventually became the date of the Feast of the Black Nazarene. There are opposing views on whether to consider the Feast of the Black Nazerene as a proper fiesta due to the fact that the January 9 observance celebrates the transfer of the image and not the liturgical "feast day" of the image. The proper liturgical commemoration of the Black Nazerene is on Good Friday. In 2021, the Basilica’s parochial vicar Fr. Douglas Badong explained that the Feast of the Black Nazerene is a proper term for the religious event, and could be called a fiesta as the event is similar to the typical Filipino festival. #traslacion2023 #traslacion #nazareno #Nazareno2023 #SpiritualSunday #Spiritual #Spirituality #Mystique #Spiritique #sacredmystics #catholicart #catholicculture #catholiceducation #catholique #catholiques #romancatholic #romancatholicchurch #catholicmystics #catholicworld #intothemystic #catholic #catholicism #contemplate #Mindfulness #tradition #traditional #traditionalvibes #sacred #sacredculture #traditionalculture https://www.instagram.com/p/CnMiv-UyuFe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

"Thieves enter houses in the dark to rob them. In the same manner, the demons enter into the soul in times of darkness, that is, when the soul is obscured by ignorance; they dig through the houses of our minds in the darkness of ignorance; as soon as the grace and the mercy of Mary enter the soul, the beautiful aurora dissipates the darkness, and the infernal enemies flee as at the approach of death."
