Everytime I watch Top Gun Maverick (or clips of it like I have today) I get such an urge for a time travel fic where the Daggersquad & Mav end up in '86 Top Gun

The ship goes through a storm and the daggersquad end up in 1986

Mav ends up in his '86 body but is still his TGM self because he was there when they time travelled but Bradley wasn't yet

I'm unsure whether it's all 12 or just Rooster, Phoenix, Bob, Coyote, Hangman, Payback and Fanboy because managing all twelve may seem a little cluttered so we'll just go with those

I mainly want this just because 1) Rooster, Hangman and Coyote will have to somehow figure out how to fly f-14's because they're double seaters and 2) I want them to experience flying in the cold war, because like the film says "they've been dropping bombs from high altitudes with little to no dogfighting"

Like, the attitude has got to be different from today

Also, Rooster's heartbroken the entire time because his dad is right there but he has to act like just another Naval Aviator

Phoenix is the only female aviator there, I checked and they were allowed in but probably weren't common, the first woman to graduate from Top Gun was in 2004! So yeah, 🌟 80s Misogyny 🌟

I have a few scenes in mind, one where Goose happily walks into the locker room after getting a call from Carole saying that she’s got the time off work and will have 2 whole weeks with him

Slider says he didn't know the circus was coming to town

Also, maybe Goose giving advice on how to please a woman, Rooster's mortified and didn't realise how sexual the locker rooms could be

Talking of locker rooms being suggestive, everyone from the daggersquad picks up on Ice and Mav, including Mav because he's from the future

But things start to change as Mav spends more time with the daggersquad, trying figure out how to get home

Such as, when Carole and Bradley are there, what usually happens is: the Bradshaws + Mav go out for dinner, get spotted by Hollywood and Wolf, then by Ice and Slider until it becomes a group hangout

But, Mav’s with the daggersquad, so it's just the Bradshaws, so Hollywood and Wolf leave them be for some family time, so Goose gets to have the night with his wife he's been planning for almost 10 months

He runs around to Mav’s room and, disregarding the daggersquad, practically begs Mav to take Bradley for the night as he "is a loyal husband"

Mav’s confused, this hasn't happened before, so Goose sighs and blatantly says "I haven't had sex in almost 10 months and my wife is getting into something 'more comfortable' that 'we'll both enjoy', so please, take Bradley"

Rooster's even more mortified

Mav realises they're changing the past and has some hope that maybe they'll be able to save Goose

All is not well, as Bradley and Rooster are starting to see each other’s vision and almost passing out because there's 2 Bradley's in one timeline

They end up passing out and they all have to come clean

In a world where Goose lives and icemav are still adopting the daggers after the mission, Bradley doesn't want them to meet his dad because he has the worst dad jokes ever. And he never quit on them. Bradley is forever embrassed, and Carole forever amoused. It gets worse when Ice and Goose start a competition on the best (worst) dad joke. Bradley would like to know why he didn't choose NASA instead of the Navy.

thinking about carole and goose and how carole was never anyone's "perfect american housewife," but she had a house with a garden she upkept religiously and she wrote sappy love letters for her navy man and she'd go to brunch (fucking brunch) with other military wives. and they'd sit down and they’d talk about what they did for their husbands homecomings.

they've got candlelit dinners, car rides down the coast, and carole can't exactly offer up "go out with our best friend. beers, burgers, and great balls of fire. leave bradley with uncle mav and go home to have sex." it's not like she or goose really care about that shit because she's not the perfect military wife but hes not exactly the perfect military husband��more surfer dude than admiral fancypants

but anyways goose is on leave and he's out with bradley for the day, so caroles sitting at home, fingering through a cookie recipe one of the ladies in the wives club offered her, "i swear he was happier to see them than me."

so carole puts on her apron and a record, and tries to read martha’s dumb cursive handwriting (it looks fancy but its no better than mav’s chicken scratch if she cant read it)

when the cookies come out theyre all flat and spread out and she has a mini meltdown because they were supposed to be soft and gooey in the center and maybe jeanette was right when she looked at carole and goose's wedding pictures said "you two sure are a strange pair of birds"

goose comes home while the cookies are cooling on the tray. carole tries to stop him before he puts one in his mouth, but he eats it and he goes "this is the best cookie i've ever had in my life.” she goes "i think i did the entire recipe wrong. whats the difference between baking powder and baking soda anyways?" and he says "well i like my cookies crispy anyways," and he winks and grabs another and ushers bradley off to the bathroom to wash his hands. and at 25, carole falls a little more in love with her husband

Oh gosh this is gonna be a lot. So I am gonna start with, if anyone wants to send me more they can. I will be answering questions 4, 8,12,16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, and 40.

4. Favourite character from Top Gun Maverick and why?

Maverick. I just really like how age has changed him and how much he loves. It's his movie and I just really feel all the pain he has gone through, but Mav still loves what he does. He is just... so good and fun and I love him so much.

8. Favourite plane used in the movies?

Okay, I am not a big plane person, I think they are all really neat. So my answer is gonna be that model plane that Slider is playing around with instead of doing any work.

16. Underrated ship?

...Any of them really. There is like very little goosmav art, and like a dust of carolegoose which is silly because they love each other very much. But the ot3 of GooseMavCarole is like... nothing, it's the most solid ship and there is nothing.

OH also for the sequel I will say HondoMav also needs more!

20. If you could re-design any helmet or design your own what would it look like?

Oh gosh, I can say this is nothing I have thought about ever. Honestly thought... What if Mav in tgm wore Goose's academy ring? But it... I dunno, hung on his necklace with his dog tags? (I am sure something will hit me a few days from now :P)

24. A line you quote all the time?

I feel like I need to ask my friends this one, because I honestly have no idea what quote I say the most.

Hondo probably. :D (at least I hope so)

AU Fic Requests: OPEN

As I've reached my goal of completing a handful of WIPs as well as the 100 Kiss Prompts, I've decided to open up another list of prompts to request from. This time, however, these prompts have been curated by myself and @thestarlitnight, based on AUs that I love and have yet to write about!

Below you will find the general rules for requesting, along with the pairings that are available to request. Below the cut, you will find the actual list of AUs and if they are available or not (There are 70, and I need you all to know that the original list was closer to 120.)

Rules/Info:

The only thing you need to include in your ask is the paring name (in bold) and the prompt as I've written it. Please do NOT request specific plot points or dynamics.

The only exception to the rule above is if you specifically do NOT want M or E-rated content, as some AUs are/can be mature/explicit leaning.

There will be no acceptance of ships that are not listed below. These fills are more in-depth, and because of that, I do not want to write for ships where their dynamics/characters feel harder to dig into for me.

1 Request Per Person until your previous request is fulfilled in order to give others a chance to request.

If I believe that an anon is sending in multiple requests I will delete them. This may not be fair to the people who are making honest requests, but given that I've already had issues with this I'm going to be firm.

If you're wondering why there isn't a specific AU on the list it's possible I have already written/am already writing something and thus did not include it.

Most Importantly! These prompts are bound to be longer than the kiss prompts (I am shooting for a 3-5k range maximum for each), and thus they will take longer to complete. You didn't specify a ship so I went with some gen stuff but mostly Carolegoose hehe. Hope you like it :)

Carole was sitting in her armchair in their house, bundled up in jackets, her head covered up with the beanie Ice had knit her for her firs chemo appointment. The blanket she was under was an old well-worn thing, from all the way back to her and Goose’s younger days. She’d been so sad about something or other, she couldn't remember now but Goose had gotten his hand on teh softness material he could at that time and tried to make her a quilt. It hadn’t turned out great at first but over the years, whenever he could, he’ll try to fix it. And slowly, as the years passed the quilt became much more functional and better - with every attempt. Now, years after Goose had been gone it was one of the few things that gave her more comfort than pain. As her own days drew to an end and the chemo started to fail, her body had gotten so cold. The quilt bhad become more of a need. But times like these, when she gets to sit with her family, Mav and Bradley on the piano in Ice’s living room, catching Ice’s eyes from across the room where he’s leaning, both of them watching their boys play a love song… being wrapped up in the quilt made her feel like she actually had Goose wrapped around her. She smiles at the thought and forces herself to live in the moment, listening to her boys sing… ‘How do I love you, well let me see I love you like a lyric loves a melody…’

GooseCarole- Carole definitely. She uses Goose as a pillow and a hot water bottle whenever he's home. He grits his teeth and withstands it because he's a good husband (and Carole gets grumpy with him if he doesn't even though he thinks she's adorable when grumpy)

IceMav- Iceman. It's in his name! Mav doesn't stand for it so subconsciously steals all the covers instead. This backfires as Iceman just cuddles closer, with his iceblocks for feet, so Mav pulls away. This continues until Mav falls out of bed

Goose and Carole seem to be a bit more responsible so try to get Mav to wear a helmet but to no avail

Carole likes it when Mav drives fast when she's on the back of his bike

Goose does not

Their usual sleeping arrangement is: Goose flat on his back, Carole curled on his left shoulder/torso, Mav cuddling Goose's right arm while curled up into a ball

Sometimes Bradley sleeps on Goose’s chest

With him sleeping on his back, he snores a lot, but they're the ones sleeping on him so they can't complain

I.

The first time Carole hears Nick mention Ron is three months into their relationship. It's just a passing comment on who is going to be around that night at the pub, but he does a face that tells more than he could. If Thomas is around, Ron will be there too. They do everything together lately. Carole can almost feel how jealous Nick is, but then a new song on the radio starts, Nick smiles, and he swaps her from the floor, and they're dancing around their living room, singing out of tune and kissing each other silly.

Neither Thomas nor Ron are at the pub that night, and she can see how disappointed he is, but he tries not to show it.

II.

The second time they're sitting around the table, filling out the invitations for their wedding. They have been together for three years and Nick has never brought up Ron again, partially because now he flies with Maverick and Maverick takes so much space and time in his life that she barely knows how he sleeps. Should I invite Tom and Ron too? he asks, and she can't help but smile gently. Sure, honey, why not? a moment later, Nick adds yeah, but they probably won't be able to come. I don't know if-

Her hands are smaller than his when she squeezes them gently, It's okay if you want them around. Yeah, yeah, you're right. Okay, I'm going to invite them. He kisses her hand before going back to work.

Tom sends back the invitation saying thank you but we're to be deployed in two days, here the present, sorry for the inconvenience, have a good wedding! in a strangley beautiful italic calligraphy. The morning of the wedding the present comes in the shape of twenty hibiscus flowers that make Nick giddy to the point where he makes her wear one. The pictures are beautiful, and it's because of the flowers too.

III.

The third time, it's Maverick who brings Ron into the discussion, or better yet, it's Maverick who brings Slider into their dinner, and Nick almost chokes.

Did you hear that Iceman and Slider had their kill of the mission?

No Mav. Nick answers Are they okay?

Yeah, but it's not that important. That should have been us, Goose! Us, not them!

Nick's shoulders are tense for the rest of the night and his eyes continue to watch the phone like it could give him all the answers he needs or catch fire any moment now.

That night, under the cover and protected by the darkness, Nick cries over her shoulder. And he talks about high school and the kid who used to run around the football field with his team and how he used to always take a bottle of water for him too because he knew Nick would have forgotten his. About his first kiss in the locker room and how afraid he was because Ron was a boy and he was a boy. And how afraid he still is because the only other person he kisses that well is sleeping near him and listening to him, and he wants, but he can't and doesn't want Carole to think for a moment she isn't enough because she is the love of his life. He's just worried about Ron. He wants him back and alive. He wants him happy.

Carole almost doesn't know what to say. She can only hug him against her chest and hope that out there, Ron is doing okay.

IV.

The letters arrive with another one attached. The first is from Maverick and Goose, the second from Nick. They said they took us to Top Gun!! We're going to Miramar! and Nick adds you should take out your flowery dress and come to find me whenever you can, Miramar is going to be beautiful, but nothing is as beautiful as you.

When she arrives at the airport, her favorite two idiots are waiting for her and Nick's kisses taste even sweeter, after all those months of deployment.

The place where they eat is awesome, Charlie seems kind of nice, and she knows what they're all talking about, so the conversation doesn't die after the first five minutes. She says Iceman and Slider are good but not that good, and the rest of the conversation is kind of lost to her because Nick is looking guilty and she has to kiss his stupid face because he should have told her, but only because she wants to meet the guy at this point. You'll have to introduce me to them one day! she adds, taking the last sip of her beer. Goose can't stop talking about them she adds, it almost feels like he has a crush on them! Charlie looks at her shocked, Mav laughs, and Goose blushes a little.

She is honestly curious to meet the man, at this point. She wants to look the guy in the eyes and check if everything's alright with him, because how could he let go of Nick? Stupid Ron. Better for her though.

V.

Nick and Mav don't win Top Gun but it's a near miss. Everybody is around for the celebration, and they're all talking about the great Iceman and Slider, but she can't, for the life of her, see either of them. Mav and Charlie aren't there either because, apparently, they broke up because there's another blond in Mav's life, even if he doesn't want to tell her, or Nick, who they are. Carole has half of an idea of their identity, but she isn't going to say anything until Mav doesn't. But, coming back to Ron, apparently everybody and their mother are talking about him and the Iceman and their maneuver, but they aren't around.

Carole is starting to be annoyed by Ron's absence because she really wants to see the man, but the moment she finishes that thought, Goose's arm isn't around her anymore and there's a letter in his hands, and she can feel it in her bones that they're not going to make it to the restaurant, not that night at least. His kiss tasted a little like all the goodbyes they never had the courage to say out loud and a little like a promise to come back to her.

+I

It takes them five years, but they're finally in that pub like they planned the first time, and, this time around, Nick doesn't say who is going to be where; he just takes her by the hand and they're in a bar full of white uniform and drunken sailors singing along and celebrating. Mav's arm is around a blond man's shoulder who's wearing sunglasses inside, and he's talking to another tall man who's now looking at Nick like he wants to eat him.

So Carole, love, this is Ron. Ron, this is my wife, Carole Nick introduces them, and when Ron gets up to shake her hand, she can really understand, even just on a physical level, why Nick finds him attractive. You should come and dance with us, Ron she murmurs against his heat and, oh God, she has to go on her tips for him too. Yeah, yeah, maybe I should, he answers, smirking at Nick and taking her hands until the middle of the floor. Don't you want to come to Goosie? she asks, oh so innocently, batting her eyelashes at him like she used to do when they were still just flirting. Nick blushes again, watching behind him where Mav is lost in a world of Thomas and only Thomas, before taking a step forward. Let's dance, baby, let's dance, he adds, smiling and walking towards them.
