Angela was quiet and reserved toward practically everyone but Ricky. And even then, her responses were limited to small nods and a lot of guessing on Ricky's end for what Angela meant.
As much as Judy and Meg made fun of Angela for being a quiet loner, Angela did have one friend. You.
Angela found you to be the one person who didn't provoke her or make fun of her. You kept your distance when you felt it was needed and defended her to Judy when you knew she was being an asshole.
Angela couldn't help but to give a small smile when she saw how nice you were being to her. Even if she hadn't spoken back to you yet, her eyes spoke of her appreciation for her.
You were more active in activities like swimming and volleyball but noticed Angela not joining.
She always appreciated when you'd stop to come over to her even if she thought she didn't deserve that.
It only took a few days for you to hear Angela speak. You sat beside her at lunch and offered your food to her, seeing her finally eat.
She looked back with a small smile, "Thank you." You swore your heart could stop, finally hearing her soft-spoken words.
Your budding friendship wouldn't go unnoticed though. You became a target for bullying as well by Judy and Meg.
They were already making fun of Angela by calling her gay since she never showered the same time as everyone else. Seeing her only get along with you was just perfect bait for the two of them.
“Aww… This your little girlfriend, Angela? Fucking knew you were into that.”
Angela never made an effort to disagree, just giving a blank stare in response.
And soon, you noticed over time, people just started disappearing. Angela pretended to not notice or brush it off. She didn't need you to know.
Plus, you didn’t notice since Angela was distracting you with how she had warmed up to you fully.
She gave a small kiss to you in private then rushed off before the counselors realized you two were gone for too long.
Even in your disbelief that she had the confidence to that, you knew from that point on, you two knew that you were meant for one another. Angela only needed you.
You gave your own confession to her a bit after that before it was time to head back to the cabins for the night. Just a quick “I like you” which was met with Angela’s own reciprocation:
“I really like you too…”
Angela's main Love Languages to give are: Acts of Service and Quality Time.
Angela doesn’t like seeing you be bothered by everyone else just because of your association with her. So she does you the favor of eliminating them from the picture.
Even if it’s a minor insult thrown at you, she doesn’t see an issue with getting rid of them.
As long as they’re gone, you won’t be sad, right?
And it means the world for Angela to be beside you. She silently cheers you on from the sidelines with a small smile when you’re in one of the games at camp.
And if you win, you better believe she’s celebrating your win with a private little date in the woods or at the beach.
She’ll even make it all nice with a beach towel to lay on and some flowers she picked to offer to you.
Angela's favorite Love Languages to receive are: Quality Time and Words of Affirmation.
Like I said, Angela likes being by you. And it means the world when you go out of your way to be beside her.
No one else besides Ricky did that. Her eyes always just lights up when she sees you!
Her favorite is when you’d invite her to the camp events and eat with her while everyone else hung out in groups. The special attention you gave to her sent her over the moon.
And you can guarantee you’ll see her shy little smile when you compliment her or talk sweetly to her.
Especially compliments that confirmed her gender presentation and got rid of her slight dysphoria.
A small “Angela! You look so pretty in that!” and you can notice a blush and how she started wearing that piece of clothing more or doing her hair in a way that you liked more.

Trans Representation in Horror Movies
What character's drive a Horror Movie? Most would say a Sidney Prescott type, if it’s a slasher, or maybe the overarching themes display the movie better than anything. However, I think the antagonist drives the plot forward. Jason, Michael, Ghostface, Jack Torrance, Art the Clown, Chucky, and John Kramer are the most memorable parts of their respective movies but there is no doubt against the fact that these characters are completely evil, in fact its engrained into the horror genre and the stereotypes most horror films portray.
Sadly, this fact has turned some characters into more than just a movie villain. If a horror antagonist is meant to be representation of a certain marginalized community, don’t base their characteristics on negative stereotypes of that community. It’s just plain hurtful, because even if it ‘enhances’ the plot of the movie, its creating even more negativity on the people you’re representing.
Sleepaway Camp, Unhappy Campers, and Teenage Wasteland was one of the first horror franchises I watched (albeit far too young) and one of the biggest ones to get me to dive headfirst into the horror genre. It’s also one of the biggest movies (at least a 'mainstream' movie) to deal with the idea of transgender people in media, especially horror. Although, depictions of Trans people have been in media for quite some time.
(Spoilers ahead!) The main antagonist/ character Angela Baker is revealed at the end of the first film to be a trans-woman, who was forced to be a girl by her aunt after the death of her parents and sister. The reason she’s revealed to be a trans-woman is because she feels disgusted by the female camper’s development; so much so that she murders them and frames a fellow camper. A big theme in the whole franchise is the sexuality of women and the effect it has on Angela, in fact, this theme has been present in more films featuring trans representation (see: “Psycho”). The idea is that experiencing another woman’s sexuality makes the character, usually a trans-woman, “revert” back to their masculine ways. But even then, it’s a good idea presented in an inaccurate way because being masculine has nothing to do with killing a girl with a curling iron. I would much rather watch some guy harm women over his own insecurity than see this idea again, because at least it’d be accurate!
It’s become such a prevalent phenomenon in the genre that it’s expected. If there’s a horror antagonist that happens to be trans, it’s probably going to be portrayed as some form of trauma that has made them ‘choose’ that. The truth is, trauma doesn’t work like that, like at all. This isn't to say that trans people shouldn't be in horror, everybody deserves to be in a bloody horror movie. There's much more to discuss about gender in horror, especially female vs. male gaze, the depiction of colored women, virginity, the victimization of rape survivors, the list goes on.
More examples of this occurrence are "Insidious Chapter 2", "Psycho (1960)", "Dressed to Kill", and "Escape from L.A.". Please read more about this from credited sources. I am not an accurate representation of this issue.

Camp Counselor Angel
My pitch for bringing Sleepaway Camp (1983) into Camp Counselor Jason - full credit to @junkmix/@junkmixart for the universe
(Because CCJ is comfort media for me, and considering how much Sleepaway Camp is derivative of Friday the 13th, it felt natural to bring them together)
Background: Rather than being written off, Officer Frank presses to have creepy camp cook Artie's "accident" properly investigated. The revelations of said investigation lead to the shutdown of Camp Arawak, and the removal of "Angela" Baker from Martha Thomas' custody, being returned to their father's partner Lenny. Five years and much soul-searching later, 18-year-old Angel Baker (he/she/they/any) and his cousin Ricky seek to confront some trauma and apply as counselors at Camp Crystal Lake.
Angel: Angel acts as an activities leader (she's a crack shot on the archery range and leads a damn good sing-along, though he still tends to avoid water activities due to trauma and dysphoria), soft-spoken, witty, and disciplined while providing a listening ear and outspoken voice for ostracized campers. The kids don't always understand their identity situation at first (Angel's not always sure he understands it herself), but generally come around as kids do to new ideas ("Are you a boy or a girl?" "I'm whatever I want to be."). While exploring said identity, he discovered the many gender-bending musical artists of the times (Bowie, Prince, Queen, etc.) and developed a love of music. They still carry a bit of a torch for Paul, staying in touch after their short stay together at Arawak, but lacks confidence that those feelings could ever be reciprocated. Pamela is a steadfast supporter and good influence for Angel, vocally condemning his prior abuse and encouraging their self-expression and -advocacy. Angel has a bit of a competitive streak (feeling in some way she needs to "prove herself"), and has a friendly rivalry with Jason as he seeks to challenge his "Counselor of the Week" streak. No matter how fierce the competition gets, though, Jason is always there to help pull Angel back out when she starts going back in her shell.
Ricky: Ricky manages one of the boys' cabins, leading them in baseball games and prank raids while making sure the fun never goes too far at someone's expense. He's distanced himself from his mother since learning of her abuse of Angel, moving in with them and Lenny the year prior, and is a little confused but has the spirit supporting his cousin's identity (he's definitely the type to pull a "his pronouns are they/them!"). He still has a fair but to unlearn about masculinity, but just being around Jason (sweet beefcake that he is) is causing some notable improvement. He's also still foul-mouthed ("Watch your goddamn language, you little shits!"), and still unlucky in love, flirting with Carrie and Laurie to no avail. He's also maintained his friendship with Paul, and tacitly encourages his and Angel's budding whatever-it-is.
Stuff that could happen:
Angel making "the face" into a flashlight while telling ghost stories
Artie and Mel seeking revenge for their injuries and the closure of Arawak (possibly a guest appearance from Meg realizing what a bullet she dodged in this timeline)
Aunt Martha applying to Camp Crystal Lake as a nurse, trying to worm her way back into "her babies'" lives
Judy redemption arc
(Am I being massively optimistic about queer acceptance in the 80s? Absolutely, but isn't optimism kind of the point of this whole affair?)

Sleepaway Camp 2 (1988)
WHEN YOU GO CAMPING JUST TAKE THE ESSENTIALS.
Angela Baker, a psychotic transsexual, escapes from a mental hospital and surfaces at a summer camp as a counselor who lectures her teenage charges on proper moral behavior. Those teens who break her strict rules – from the camp chatterbox or a sex-obsessed girl to the boys who are peeping Toms – are murdered by the impostor in various gruesome ways. As more campers go missing, intrepid counselor Molly begins to piece together the truth.

Thoughts on Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers
-  The fact that apparently no one can find a picture of Angela post gender confirmation surgery is really weird to me, idk why.
-  Angela and Jason should be friends, they seem to have similar issues with people.
-  I hate the Happy Camper song, I really really do.
-  I love how she just....abandons needing a reason to kill people and kills one girl because she’s being gossipy and the other girl because she....walked in on Angela disposing of a body.
- “I was really shy too, I never used to talk to anybody” yeah that’s putting mildly Ange.
- “Pornography is disgusting” yeah, and they took those pictures without the girls’ permission, so fuck those kids
- And no one ever checked that cabin in between murders?
- “ you can’t just send people home without talking to me about it” yeah it’s almost like, it’s a cover.
- The other counselor is waaay to chill for my liking honestly.
- I’m really happy that they didn’t stick with the thing from the original where they only casted people who were actually teenagers. There’s so many boobs in this movie.

Spooky movie of the night! 🎃 💀 📺 🎬
Let me tell ya, this is NOT a good movie by any means. But, it is "so bad it's good" lol I had so much fun laughing at how absurd it is. And Nu-Angela is NOWHERE near OG Angela. She's not just played by a new actress (which I didn't mind that much), she just doesn't even remotely act like Angela. She may as well be a whole new character 🤦‍♀️ And none of the new characters are even a little bit likeable. I actually found myself missing Judy 😮
But if you like LOTS of boobs... this is the movie for you! 😂
I will say though, I liked the very obvious nods to Freddy, Jason, & Leatherface! 🖤

You won’t be coming home from Terror Threads without Sleepaway Camp merchandise. Sam Coyne’s new design is available on T-shirts ($27), tank tops ($28), baseball tees ($37), and mugs ($20).
The artwork is also featured on a "Campfire Carnage" scented candle ($25), which is only available for 72 hours, and a poster signed by star Felissa Rose ($50), which is limited to 125.

Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3 aren’t scary because of the cheesy lines and ridiculous kills. They’re scary because there are people in real life who probably think the way Angela Baker does.

Happy October
In honor of my favourite month, October, I'll be posting a movie, horror icon/character, or mytholgical creature everyday that puts me in that fun and spooky Halloween mood.
Too hot out today and feels more like summer than the start of fall.
October 3rd...
Angela Baker
Tumblr media
Angela Baker and the Sleepaway Camp series is a favourite of mine. Though similar to the 80s slash 'em up style of horror, it has it's own personality and stood out for me.
Tumblr media
Felissa Rose in the original Sleepaway Camp (1983). I love her dead eyed stare that could change in an instant depending on who she was around. Enjoyable though ridiculous murders. And of course the ending which I'm sure we all are at least semi familar with if have heard about the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pamela Springsteen portrayed Angela Baker in the next two entries of the series set five years after the events of the first movie. Part 2, Unhappy Campers (1988) and part 3, Teenage Wasteland (1989), were more black comedy and satirical than the first. Still I love these movies dearly and feel they fit on a hot October day for me. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
