[tonight I offer you: (semi nsft) hotaao wip I’m not sure I’ll ever finish but. maybe you can enjoy it anyway]
Firefly
Marie was having trouble sleeping. Well, to be fair, she always did— but tonight was different.
Two hours had passed since she’d crawled into bed sometime after midnight, making it roughly one hour since Callie had rolled over in her sleep and half awoke to scoop Marie into a hug before she was back out again.
Marie huffed, shifting in place and fighting back another wave of heat, tips of her tentacles lighting dim green briefly before she choked it back. Honestly, this had happened every year for roughly the last ten, around the same time even, and she should really expect it by now— but well, here she was, wide awake in the middle of the night and trying not to light up like a firefly and wake her girlfriend.
Which would, Marie thought, actually help solve her problem.
She cursed inwardly as she tensed back another shiver, tentacles flickering again. Unfortunately, she’d also just about die of embarrassment even if Callie would understand and probably be more than a little flustered.
Normally, Marie found her luminescence was easy to hide. Years of trying not to look like a walking glow stick whenever she was embarrassed, happy, or the like made her general day-to-day life manageable enough she didn’t have to think about it. Being cool headed helped too— Callie almost always had a figurative glow about her; if she could actually light up she’d be incandescent.
Unfortunately, she also had about one night of the year where she… well, middle school had said some squids still felt the effects from ancient “mating seasons”, which used to last weeks to months. Marie was pretty sure she’d die if her season lasted that long— she’d had one that lasted a week back when Callie had been regularly out of town, and the lack of sleep was terrible. It was a bit of a mixed blessing it only ever started at night.
The older inkling idly traced the muscle along her cousin’s back, rubbing little circles behind her shoulder blades like she’d done a thousand times before. She had, at one point, been the same height as Callie. Now the younger inkling had a couple inches over her, and was significantly more muscular from years of swinging around a heavy roller and her generally active lifestyle. Marie let out a little sigh as her hand wandered over Callie’s shoulder, trailing her fingers over the relaxed curve of her bicep. But Cod, she was good looking.
“M’rie?” Her voice came out muffled from sleep. “Wh’time’s it?”
“Late.” Marie honestly had no idea. She quickly, and she hoped subtly, detached her wandering hands and gave a stretch, leaving her arm to hang casually back over the other inkling’s side.
Maybe she’ll just go back to sleep. Something in her protested the thought, making her shift uncomfortably. She frowned at herself. Keep it together, Marie.
Callie hummed, wrapping her arms a little tighter around the smaller inkling, cheek pressed against the top of her head. “Can’t sleep?”
Fuck, please just go back to sleep. Her hearts were starting to beat harder; Marie hoped she hadn’t noticed. “Didn’t mean to wake you.” Never mind that she sort of dodged the question.
Another hum in response as Callie ran a hand along her back, rubbing calming circles in what was likely an attempt to help the tension in Marie’s shoulders. Her hand slid down Marie’s side to cup her waist as Callie shifted to get comfortable, making her hiss a sharp breath between her teeth, back arching under the touch.
“Ah, sorr— oh.” The older inkling didn’t glance up, embarrassment keeping her eyes down, but she felt Callie shift to look at her. “Marie, you’re…”
Marie’s face burned. “I’m fine.” It came out short. “Don’t… worry about it.”
“You’re glowing.” It was more of a confirmation for herself than anything, but Marie snorted at the statement.
“Yes, Callie. I’m aware.” She deadpanned.
“Like, a lot.”
“I know, Callie.”
She was trying to keep the glow down, choking back that burning tension in her core, but that still meant she glittered like she was covered in glowflies. The tips of her tentacles and tops of her ears along to her cheeks were flecked with little bright green spots, and under her shirt they carried from the tops of her shoulders and made a Y down to her low back. A couple stripes of green could be seen on each side of her stomach running from under her chest to her navel, the glow dissipated from the fabric. The outsides of her thighs were also freckled with green light, peeking out from under the shorts she wore to bed.
While Marie cast light, Callie was practically a mirror— if a mirror could walk and had the personality of a puppy. Her yellow eyes shone with little green flecks, framed by shiny patches like freckles reflecting the older inkling’s glowing ones. Though Marie could only see the ones on her face, she knew Callie’s spots copied her own; shoulders, back, stomach, thighs. Her black and pink tentacles were particularly reflective, though currently tied behind her and away from the light, while the rest mostly just made her look like she was occasionally dusted with glitter. Well, sometimes she actually was.
Callie was staring in that way she did when she saw a pretty light or something shiny, her eyes round and semi-focused with her mouth making a little O. Marie supposed lighting up when your girlfriend was fascinated by lights — also an ancient squid hold-over, she’d been told — was really pretty fortunate. That it sometimes had the side-effect of making the younger inkling freeze up or gravitate in that direction was not, but Callie had also, generally, gotten better with that in her daily life as well.
Now did not seem to be one of those times however, and Marie sighed in the extended silence, tipping her head more solidly into the other inkling’s shoulder. “… Had a good enough look yet?”
No response.
“Callie. Hey.” She reached up and patted her cousin’s cheek, trying to snap her out of her reverie.
“Hwuh-?” Callie blinked rapidly, eyes refocusing. “Oh! Oh, sorry.” A bashful little smile flashed across her face.
“You’re just… you’re really pretty, you know?”
Marie responded by kissing her chin. “Ever the romantic— I could swoon.”
The younger inkling laughed quietly, pulling the other in tight and lightly pressing her lips to her mouth. Marie tensed at the contact, hearts skipping back up to a hammer, returning the kiss as fire lit her veins.

A New Home Ch. 16
Various! Splatoon manga x Skilled! Isekai'd! Reader
Wc: 1.3k
Back to the start! Previous Next
Tumblr media
“Hey, hey, look!”
You barely have time to breathe after walking through the door of your new home before Leo’s shoving his phone in your face.
He kept moving it around, making it impossible to read the screen.
“We got invited to a party! Starts at 6 tonight!”
Oh. people.
“Who’s all going?”
“Uhh, no idea who’s hosting it, but I heard it should be mostly strong players?”
Ugh, seriously? Those are usually the worst people to be around. Most of them are so stuck-up and arrogant. Well, you suppose that if it’s just a bunch of randos, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to maybe find some new opponents. Your team could always use new sacrifices to test out new techniques in battle. And you won’t have to feel bad about it, with how their personalities usually are. Putting them in their places is always so fun.
You let out a small sigh, and agree to going - not like he was really offering since the beginning. As long as Milo, Tasha and him are going, you should be fine, right?
˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
Wrong.
It’s now 6:08, and it’s so damn loud. The songs may be decent, almost like a 2010’s party mix is what you could best compare it to, but it shook the whole house. You weren’t expecting this many people, either. The lights are off, but there are tons of colored party lights and even a disco ball.
(Optional song.)
You grabbed Milo’s hand to ground yourself, and he held yours comfortably tight, rubbing his thumb against your knuckles soothingly. There wasn’t much else he could do, but you appreciated his effort. Though, it didn’t help all that much. It’s hard to get distracted and grounded when the source of your uncomfortableness is making its way through all of your senses. At least there was one that you could control, and that was food.
You squeezed your way through the crowd, making your way over to the snack area to find something you liked. Holy carp, that’s a lot of food. You grab one of the paper plates and throw on some stuff that you like, grabbing one of the canned drinks to wash the food down.
Wait, where’s Milo?
You begin to look around nervously, he shouldn’t be that hard to spot, being as tall as he is. Same goes for Tasha. Though Leo’s completely lost in the crowd, no luck finding him unless he decides to make a scene. Which isn’t unlikely.
You can’t search by color, since the lights are all weird, so you look for shape instead. You spot a quick reflection of light right around where his face height would be, then you see his spiky hair.
‘Okay, good. He’s right there. This is fine.’
As long as you know that you can spot him at any time, that eases your nerves. You hold the cold can in your hand tightly, taking a deep breath in.
Yeah, this isn’t your type of thing. You manage to push through and talk to a couple of people that approach you, and you quietly sing to some of your favorite songs once you get a little more comfortable. Anarchy Rainbow, Bomb Rush Blush, and Callimari Inkantation, to name a few. They had a lot of nice, upbeat tunes. But, as expected, it starts to feel way too loud again, and this time you try to find a way out. You need to escape, even just for a bit, before you start to feel too overwhelmed again.
You climb up the stairs to the second floor, and notice that the sound is definitely more drowned out up here. You open a couple of doors, trying to find the washroom. You mostly just find a couple of spare rooms with beds. One of the rooms was completely decked out with Dj-like stuff on the walls, but it seems the kit was missing. Guess that’s what they’re using downstairs.
You open another door and, man, this is nowhere near anything you could have ever expected.
Four cephalopods stare back at you. There’s one sitting on a beanbag chair, in front of a tv, playing some video game. Squid Racer, you’d recognize the characters and OST any day with how often Leo likes to play. There’s another at a table, who’s writing down in his manual. The third is sitting near the tv, with a lollipop in hand. You could have guessed that he was watching the other one play Squid Racer just before you walked in. The last one is now right in front of you.
“Hey, sweetheart! You did get my message! I’m glad you came~I was afraid you wouldn’t show,” He throws on a fake pout, but quickly replaces it with a friendly smile, “What brings you up here?”
“Leo showed me the invite, I had no idea you were the one throwing the party. Should have guessed, though.” You avoid the last question, not wanting to seem weak in front of such strong players.
“Aw, not happy to see me?”
“Nono, I am, I just wasn’t expecting to find you guys here, is all!” You wave your hands dismissively, trying to prove your point. You can’t look at them directly, this is way too much to handle right now.
He gently puts a hand on your upper back, in a way that silently asks if you’re okay with it. You allow it, and he brings you into the room and closes the door. You immediately take note of how much quieter it is in this room specifically, it’s almost like this room is made for this.
“Ya wanna stay in here for a bit? Parties can get pretty loud and overwhelming, I get it.”
Of course. Of course, somebody of this skill level would see right through you, you should have expected that.
You let the smile drop from your face for a second, and slump down to the ground to relax. The coldness of the ground feels so nice, this is exactly what you needed.
“Thanks ‘loha. Seriously, I mean it.”
He doesn’t question the nickname, he must have misheard you. He’s a little surprised at how casual you seem, but it might just be because of how you’re feeling.
“ ‘Course! Where are your teammates? They ditch ya? I’ll kick their-”
“No, no, they’re having fun. They were all hanging out with other people, making friends n stuff - hopefully, - and I don’t wanna ruin that for them.”
“They’re terrible teammates if they don’t help you out when you’re in need of it.”
“Nah, my teammates are awesome and would do anything for each other. …That’s exactly it, though, I want them to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about me.”
You wonder if maybe there is something bigger than this, another reason at the back of your mind. Do you not want to seem weak? You shake your head,
“I wasn’t doing too bad, I got away before it started to really suck.” You get up, dusting yourself off, then go sit next to Skull on the couch. Not right next to him, obviously, but there’s a comfortable distance.
“As long as you’re feelin’ better.”
Mask finally finishes his round, and he leaves the in-game lobby. You tilt your head in curiosity, wondering why he’s leaving. There’s no way in sub-weapon hell that he’s going to actually join the party, you know that for a fact.
Instead, he looks back at you, then gestures to the beanbag chair a little farther off in the corner. You clue in, and go grab the chair, and set up next to him. He’s already grabbed the second controller, and waits for you to get comfortable before handing it over.
“Hope you knoooow I’m not going eaaaasy on you.”
“Better not, ‘cause kicking your ass won’t feel as good.”
You shoot him a playful smirk, and you let the round begin.
This is so much better than being downstairs.

Fellow aohota/callimari shipper.... in the eng splatoon fanbase... I'm so glad to have found you! Splatoon fandom is super full of Them™ so I love finding likeminded people.. what's your personal gender/sexuality headcanons for Callie and Marie :D??
YESSS we gotta stick together!!! To be honest I actually usually don’t think about them individually because my favourite idols are off the hook BUT I think Marie is probably for the most part allosexual and aromantic and the only person she really feels romantic attraction for is Callie. As for Callie I see her being bi with a feminine lean. Honestly I haven’t thought about their genders much but Callie is probably more gender nonconforming than Marie and is more likely to identify as trans

JJSSHWDJJJUEJDDHASKÀJJANA SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG but here’s the drabble I promised! I got distracted cuz I got sucked into like 3 different hyperfixations xP. Anyway here’s Nori and Callie looking for ghosts!
——
It was a dark, chilly night in Callimari County, and two cephalopods stood in front of a surprisingly large house. Callie and Nori, as well as Marie, had come to visit the Squid Sisters’ parents for the holidays, getting an early start by showing up just before splatoween.
In the inkling’s hand was a flashlight, and in the octoling’s a custom Splaterscope, covered in hot-pink stickers wherever she and her girlfriend could responsibly fit them. Their free hands were joined together, shivering from the cold. and maybe from nerves, just a little.
Callie gave her girlfriend a reassuring smile before separating their hands to open the large wooden door. She’d wanted to explore this place ever since she heard the ghost stories, but her parents (and Marie) always talked her out of it as a teen. Now that she was older, and had Nori to keep her safe, she couldn’t wait to see what was inside! Nori was a little skeptical of a ghost causing all the strange stuff around the house, but that didn’t stop her from bringing her Splaterscope along, despite how impractical it was to carry such a large weapon around without the sling to attach it to her back. Nori had never landed a shot on a target she couldn’t see at all, but it’d be a lie to say she wasn’t somewhat exited for the chance to try.
They’d barely made it into the foyer before several loud “crack!"s and "bang!"s rang out from the darkness in front of them. In an instant Nori swung her Splatterscope around towards the noises, with so much force it likely would have knocked Callie out if she hadn’t been so startled by the noise that she reflexively went into swim form. As she scanned the darkness in front of her, Nori saw dozens- maybe hundreds- of eyes, reflective and silvery-green, staring back at her. Without a second thought she picked up Callie and ran back towards the door as fast as her shaky legs could carry her. Behind them came terrible shrieking and hissing and the sound of a hundred feet chasing after them.
As she approached the door Nori slipped on an old rug and fell to the floor, sending a cloud of dust into the air and the inkling in her arms out the door and tumbling down the hill the house sat on. Just as Nori scrambled back to her feet, one of the thing’s claws hooked into her jacket knocking off a pin and cutting a small scratch into her skin.
The moment she was out the door she went into swim form, opting to roll down the hill just as Callie had. Once they were both at the bottom, they both sat up to look back at the house. A-dozen-or-so feral salamanders we’re skulking around in front of the mansion, hissing down at the ex-tresspassers at the bottom of the hill. Both breathed a sigh of relief, and Callie helped her girlfriend to her feet, and they walked back towards town in comfortable silence.
Nori turned to her girlfriend with an apologetic look. "I’m sorry we didn’t find any ghosts” she half-wispered, not wanting to disturb the quiet too much. “Are you kidding? That was awesome!” Callie said excitedly, while stimming by shaking her balled up fists up and down as if shaking a spray can or a maraca. “I got to explore a creepy old house, see some scary monsters,” she paused to give Nori a kiss on the cheek, emphasizing her final point, “and I even got saved by a knight in shining armor!”. Nori blushed, and returned the favor by giving Callie a kiss on the forehead.
When they got home, Marie asked if they wanted to come with her to help the rest of the town prepare for the upcoming Halloween party. They both politely declined. All Nori wanted right now was some cuddles with her girlfriend, a new patch for the hole in her jacket, and a call with her doctor to double check she had her rabies shot. But the last two could wait for now.
——
Sorry if it’s not the best, it was very stream-of-consciousness lol! Happy splatoween everybody!

I had an old Splatoon hc post but I felt like writing a new one. Probably some doubled info but. Oh well.
Squid Sisters headcanons under the cut!
Callie: The younger of the Squid Sisters by about a year, she ended up taller than Marie by a couple inches. Due to mainly using roller for years in turf, ranked, and agent work (as well as being generally active), she’s also more muscular. Prefers Dynamo and Flingza types for their jump-and-swing focused playstyle. Has shared an apartment with Marie since they originally moved out of Gramps’ house, they’ve also shared a room since moving in together. Haven’t bothered upgrading to a larger apartment since the rent is good, the location is nice, and Marie really doesn’t want to move (it was a pain last time and now they have more things). Wakes up early to go for a run, often getting back as Marie is just rolling out of bed. Callie’s a good cook, and usually makes their meals. As she’s a bigfin reef squid, her tentacles, eyes, and some spots on her body are reflective. Makes taking pictures with flash difficult as her eyes end up looking like they’re glowing (which she always thinks is funny). She tends to gravitate toward things that light up, including Marie (also part of the reason the hypnoshades were so effective on her). While she’s more outgoing and energetic, she enjoys just hanging out with Marie if she doesn’t feel like going out. Isn’t a very good liar despite her acting career.
Marie: The older of the two, she was (accidentally) recruited into the New Squidbeak Splatoon by Callie back when they were just joining turf wars. Likes chargers, especially the E-liter for the range, but she’s alright with any of them. Her first weapon was a gift; a replica of Gramps’ bamboozler. Has an aversion to scopes after Callie played one too many pranks and kept looking back at her down the scope (usually ending up splatted). When Callie is away, which (thankfully) isn’t as often as it used to be, Marie frequently just orders takeout (usually because she forgets to start cooking and then she’s hungry and doesn’t want to). Will now sometimes travel with Callie if she’s leaving for a movie/series shoot, though she just hangs out in the hotel on her laptop and types up podcast scripts (or intends to but procrastinates until Callie gets back). As a firefly squid, Marie’s tentacles, eyes, and some spots on her body can emit a faint glow, matching her ink color. Only does this when she’s particularly happy/excited/etc., though she’s generally good at hiding it in her day-to-day life. Loves jokes, and her ability to tell them with a straight face always makes Callie laugh. Though not particularly clingy herself, she gets lonely quickly if Callie’s gone long.
