@brooklynislandgirl sent 😞 = Finding an orphaned child would your muse opt to take them in, find someone more qualified, or just leave them? {Madam Don't Mind the Moonshine}
Enough moons ago that the meme of this ask has been lost to civilization
It was rare to find any survivors when it came to vampires. So rare, in fact, that she had only ever encountered them enough times to count on one hand, and they were almost always being used as a sustained food source. But this child was too small for anything much of a meal. Maybe they had been waiting for it to get a little bigger to make a better meal, maybe they had planned on turning it once it was old enough not to be a perpetual pain in the ass, whatever the case was, the pair of vamps had had a toddler with them, walking but not forming sentences. In any case, whatever had been their intentions, and whoever had been the child’s parents, no one was around to answer her questions after she had dealt out deaths to the vampires
Nilza was incapable of leaving a crying child alone, but she was also not in her element by a long shot. She didn’t remember how she was supposed to deal with a child this age, she didn’t have much memory of Luis, she certainly hadn’t prepared herself for a child that old when she and Soren had been reading up on infant care.
“Pobrecito,” she murmured, ignoring the desire to freak out over the idea of a toddler in her care. If she started panicking he surely would resist her more, she was already a stranger. “I know. I’m not your mami. I would cry too. Dirty chica with knives, no thank you.” Well, that wasn’t entirely true but she wasn’t sure the words were being understood, but at least he didn’t throw a fit about being picked up. There was a long pause as she tried to determine what she was supposed to do from here. She was covered in blood spatters, and had a child that was by no means hers. Yes maybe she could manage to drop him at a safe haven, but would those anonymity laws apply in their rather messy condition? And he was far too big for a baby box. Could she even bring herself to simply leave him outside a station and call, hoping he was found in time?
Breathing a sigh through her nose, she did the only thing she could think to do, which was to awkwardly place him in the truck’s passenger seat and attempt to put the seatbelt on him. Saphira perked up from her spot on the floor of the cab and snuffled at his toes, very surprised to see the tiny human.
“Good puppy. The puppy isn’t going to do anything except sniff you and lick your stinky feet.” She carefully shut the passenger door, and moved to her side of the cab, getting in with a sigh. Staring ahead into the dark for a good minute, she wracked her brain and the only semi-viable solution she could come up with, that didn’t make her feel like she was just serving him up to more predators, was ironically enough, casting him to the wolves. Or at least, enlisting the help of someone associated as to not make a bigger mess of this.
At least he had quieted by the time she had reached Beth’s mountain, and the sun was now up. Thankfully he was too small and the truck was too high up to see she was driving a baby around without a car seat, but it wasn’t as though Target was open at three in the morning, nor on the outskirts of any kind of dense population.
“Come here. We go see Beth, you’ll like her. I think. You aren’t screaming about me anymore, so I cannot help but wonder if they glamored judgment right out of you, chico. At least maybe she knows how to deal with...child stuff. Before I fu-mess it up.” Or kill him on accident. Because that’s how her luck seemed to go and she didn’t trust herself much. Not with a child.

LOCATION & WITH WHOM: 46TH ST W/ @infestabeth
Tumblr media
Elle opened another portal, she wanted the kid gripping her arm to go somewhere safe, but it’s not like she could send them home, wherever that was. The best she could do was somewhere public where the kid could find a proper adult. She spread her hands and through a purple haze times square was visible, crowded, but thankfully not in complete chaos. “Go find an adult with another kid and have them call the police ok honey?”  The kid nodded and stepped through the portal hesitantly. Elle felt terrible, but this wasn’t the place for a child and the police, while useless in most respects, were probably the only people who could track down whatever family the kid had that weren’t lying a pile of blood. As she tried to collect her thoughts Elle noticed bugs crawling by her feet, too many bugs, why the hell were the so many bugs. She spun around and saw Betty facing her. “Let’s do this,” she gritted her teeth.

The craziest part of the episode to me is the ice cream table exchange about Beth tbh like Morty truthfully believes that Rick would say
“This may as well be our real daughter because she’s just as real as you.”
and
“Put it this way. You’re all basically NPCs. Only Morty and I are real, so your side quests don’t matter. The main quest is us.” (referring to he and Diane exclusively)
And when Diane, rightfully, combats him for his thinking with
“You’re disgusting. You’re talking about our baby girl like she’s theoretical?”
Beth throws in “Welcome to the family.”
Which might be one of the most heartbreaking lines in the whole thing to me because Morty has observed Rick enough to believe that this line of thinking is entirely in character for not only Rick but for the rest of the family too. Like Morty truly believes that Rick doesn’t care about them in anyway and that when faced with this, even Beth would just respond with the belief that this is the norm, at least from Rick anyway. So much so, that he uses an outside character in Diane to call out how insane it is.
Morty believes that Rick only cares about Diane and literally everyone else doesn’t matter and that’s just so sad to me, especially when we have seen otherwise but he can’t be faulted for thinking that when Rick carries that facade with him almost always, and especially to Morty directly.

Space Beth’s hair is turning blue, because she’s the Beth who acts like Rick the most. Beth’s is turning grey, because she’s the Beth who acts the most like Diane

I saw someone else on here saying how Rick needs someone with a different moral compass to go with him on adventures because otherwise it'd be an echo chamber of bad decisions, and thats why he brings Morty (very outspoken against him) rather than Summer (very often outspoken against him, however very much aligns with his violent impulses)
and I agreed with that, however I wanted to add my own theory as to why he brings only Morty, which kind of goes along with theirs.
I lost their post/url so I dont know who it is who posted that, but if I find it ill reblog with a link to their post, or if one of you find it youre welcome to do that for me !!
okay, so. it seems to me that another reason Rick would take Morty most times and not usually Summer is not only because Summer is more likely to become a moral echo chamber, but because Morty is the most likely in the family to not end up another Rick.
let me explain what I mean:
Rick has witnessed the citadel and how that ended up, he's implied to have witnessed the deaths of so many people (not just Ricks) for being too confident in their smarts. he knows that his life style kind of ruins you if youre as smart as he is because you start getting to know that you are.
this won't happen with Morty.
Morty is a lot of things; resourceful, highly adaptive, good in combat (when he can be), quick on his feet and passionate. but one thing he isnt, is like Rick.
Morty gets none of his traits from Beth or Rick. he isnt inhumanely smart (in fact its canon that he's quite the opposite), he isnt predisposed to being cold and uncaring, he isnt as impulsive (he still is, just not as much), the list goes on.
not only are Summer and Beth predisposed to end up like Rick, they have, on many occasions, acted exactly how Rick would've acted in situations. and to me, it seems like that scares him.
Morty however is very different to Rick, and Rick knows that very few Mortys ever end up even a fraction of the man he is.
Mortys are not predisposed to end up cold and uncaring, in fact Mortys are predisposed to be the exact opposite. Mortys are "hardwired for forgiveness." theyre empathetic, loving, forgiving. Mortys rarely harden into the kind of person Rick is, or the kind of person Summer and Beth would be.
Morty is the obvious answer to who Rick should rely on - he'll never be bad. Morty is good at his core. at least most of them are, of course just like there's outlier Ricks (c-137 himself), there's outlier Mortys, but as a general statement, Mortys are good at their core.
kind of off topic, but I also beleive that c-137 is good at his core.
let me explain.
he is, by admission, a different kind of Rick. he wanted to stay home, to be there for the girls, he was even willing to give up his dream of science just to be there for him.
when they died, so did a part of him.
he lost the love of his life, and he lost his daughter. he lost his perfect little family.
and what did he do ? go insane trying to find the person who did this to him, and get rid of them.
the things he did on the way were kind of a "in the grand scheme of things" type of situation.
again another blog already said this (here) (hopefully that worked), but when Prime said he c-137 could've been him- he already was. he was in the exact same situation that Prime was. he offered someone infinity, and they rejected it. but instead of going the way Prime did, which was killing the people around Bird Person to force him to travel infinity anyways, he just moved on. he got upset at first and tossed some weak insults, but he moved on. because, as the above post says, its not that big of a deal. it wasn't the end of the world for him.
now, im not saying c-137 has never done anything wrong. hes done a lot of things wrong. what I am saying is he's good at his core; his goal was never and still isn't just to hurt people. his goal is revenge and in his eyes, its a ticking time bomb. anyone in his way has to be swiftly dealt with because he's running out of time.
also - of course he can't show how much he loves Morty. he doesnt know if Prime is still watching him, but he does know that the Omega Device could very well still be on operation, and he finds out he was correct in this assumption in Ultmortricken.
if he had shown his love for Morty often at all, who knows what Prime would've done with that information.

so at this point everyone is accepting that rick and diane never had a healthy marriage right??
like i think what everyone assumed (including me) is that they retconned all the things about rick not believing in love in the first two seasons when they revealed rick's revenge quest in season 6. like i thought that because rick was doing all of that for diane and beth, that it was indicative of a healthy relationship. but i don't think that's the case anymore after looking into some old episodes. i truly believe it was the intentions of the writers to make him have a bad relationship w diane since the beginning.
so here's what i've been thinking right.
Tumblr media
"listen morty, what people call love is just a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed. it hits hard, morty, and then it slowly fades, leaving you stranded in a failing marriage. i did it. your parents are gonna do it. break the cycle, morty. rise above. focus on science." (rick potion #9, ep 106)
the situation he describes is so specific. he describes "failing marriages" and compared his marriage to that of beth and jerry's which is infamously codependent and toxic.
Tumblr media
"i couldn't make [marriage] work and i can turn a black hole into a sun, so..." (the wedding squanchers, ep 210)
he talks about how little he trusts in marriage. because despite his intelligence, he couldn't be happy in his own.
so these are the two hints we get about rick's marriage before diane even actually shows onscreen. both of these quotes demonstrate rather clearly that their relationship was dysfunctional in some capacity. that it was "failing".
so if we're call caught up let's move onto the season 3 premiere.
Tumblr media
"why don't i go grab beth and we can go out for ice cream?" (the rickshank redemption, 301)
that's all she has to say after rick says he's giving up on science - his passion. which is rather odd because it was clearly something he was working on for some time and he just says he's giving it all up immediately. which is odd, right? this well seeming remark could be far more insidious than it seems.
i'm not the only one to point this out but that's it. she dismisses his feelings. she invites him out to a place with their daughter (where, with her present, they would be incapable of having an adult conversation which would put more distance between them) and in this regard, beth acts as a physical barrier between them both.
i'm not saying that diane is in the wrong here. i'm not saying rick is perfect. but that's one instance of their relationship where something pretty major had just happened. and it's immediately brushed off.
Tumblr media
(abcs of beth, 309)
there are plenty of hints that rick was indeed an absentee father, even when he was still living with his daughter. take the abcs of beth, where rick talks about all the toys that child beth had to play with. beth insists that she asked him to make those because she wanted to spend time with him. let me repeat, beth explains that she wanted to spend time with her father so bad that she asked him to make lethal weapons for her to play with. plus the whole froopyland thing - an environment designed to be safe so he wouldn't have to keep an eye on her. it's obvious she channeled her neglect in a destructive way - aka in a way that she got from her father. but i digress.
the point is, rick has always been absent from his family in some capacity. whether it was emotionally as we see with diane or physically as we see with beth.
there are also some hints at infidelity on rick's end. take mr nimbus, who is confirmed to have known diane.
then when diane and beth die, he absolutely crumbled. and this scene does break my heart watching it bc we know it's not just a part of a fake memory now. it was all real. the pain he experienced in that moment - the hope he had of living a normal life and making everything up to his family - just got ripped away from him.
so even though on the surface, rick appears to have a healthy relationship w diane when she shows up in the show, that doesn't mean that's all there is. it's very unlikely based on all of the information presented in the earlier seasons that these two were stable together and i think that the presentation of diane as a perfect loving caring wife is intentional. it either represents how rick remembers her - as someone kind - or is only a small part of the equation.
oh and let's not forget the ghost ai that rick made for his dead wife. he designed her to berate him, to wear him down. to never let him move on from what happened. like that's something super messed up wow. maybe
in conclusion, rick has never had a stable family or home life. that thing didn't appeal or satisfy him. it caused him to neglect his daughter and continues to impact the relationship he has with his adult family members. by no means is this an excuse and that's hardly my point. i feel it's important that we know the reality of ricks marriage to understand how that impacts him in the show we're watching.
ofc this is just my take on what little we have seen from the two of them. i rlly want to see more so i can maybe make a better assessment. but yeah. whatever went on there? not healthy. no way in hell.
