bruh i need to vent about a rude comment i got on my recent chap and also about clora, cuz its something thats been on my mind for a while now. it has spoilers to my most recent chap tho so im putting it below

so in my most recent chap clora gets hit by the killing curse but thanks to seb sacrificing himself for her, it doesn’t work/she survives. and I got a rly rude comment about how that’s super cringe and that clora is a "shoe horning of every possible manifestation of Mary-Sueism I have ever seen." theyre dropping my fic after almost 500k words bc apparently THAT’S where they draw the line and that "just somehow pulling it out the bag and surviving a killing curse from the power of love. In simpler terms, it’s absolutely cringe worthy" and "forgive me if I rolled an eye at the yet again invincible nature of Clora Clemons-the-one-eighth-Veela-extraordinaire"

BUT LIKE LMAO TELL ME U DIDN’T READ/WATCH HARRY POTTER WITHOUT TELLING ME. that’s literally what happens to harry??but its only cringe when it happens to our "mary-sue" clora? like yeah sure love magic might be a bit cringe but IM LITERALLY JUST PULLING FROM THE SOURCE MATERIAL. of all the things to take issue with in my fic and interpretations, theyre taking issue with something that’s canon BAHAHA.

and since im on the topic of clora being mary sue can I just say I hate the misogyny/internalized misogyny that i've seen some people (NOT A LOT, THANKFULLY) treat her with. like i get it, im not pale and blonde and as conventionally pretty as clora is, but even if I was, is that a reason to hate me?? and does being beautiful and well-liked = mary sue? bc as far as I know, mary sue is a chara who is just naturally amazing at everything and doesnt need to try hard and theyre just inexplicably great for no reason (like mc in the base game BAHHAA) if anything the mary sue in MY fic is seb LMAO (but hes a boy so its ok). like clora has worked hard and studied magic all her life due to being a squib and wanting to make up for not being able to DO it. she isnt good at flying, seb is still better at her than duelling, shes really short sighted when it comes to doing/thinking whats best for others and can be a huge idiot.... and like. the only guys that have even shown interest in clora on a real scale have been seb and leander (and then lawley for blackmail purposes, and also bc he hates seb) so its not like literally everyone is falling over themselves for her?? like her interactions with the main cast of boys (ominis, garreth, amit) theyre all indifferent to her LMAO but still, the fact that shes pretty and guys here and there might look at her and go o shes cute! doesnt make her a mary sue SORRy thats just called being attractive idk its just annoying that ppl automatically see a nice kind beautiful female character without any VISIBLE flaws and go SHES TOO PERFECT!! MARY SUE!! WAH IM JEALOUS! and like I get it bc when I was younger I probs would have been annoyed by clora as well due to my own insecurities and internalized misogyny but hey, how about u just realize that’s ur own problem and your own jealousy, and not a real one HAHAH anyway ive since evolved bc I used to be a ‘not like other girls’ type girl back in highschool. trying to be super tomboy-y bc I thought being feminine was cringe and too basic but now ive embraced it and love girly things and dresses and charas like clora who are still strong and showcase their strengths and weaknesses in subtler ways, and I want to smooch her and make out with her. get behind me clora ill protect you🤺🤺🤺

so on a whim I started reading omniscient reader’s viewpoint manhwa

here’s a big ✨shut your mouth✨ to every character who’s said he’s ugly- get your eyes checked, get a job get away from him (I know it’s because of the fourth wall’s filter it’s not their fault I’m just being silly)

the fourth wall is such a cool power to have. the complexity of how it acts based on his perception of fiction vs reality as the reader …. that’s very interesting and well thought out!!! how it lowkey has a consciousness too and it’s so tied into his mental state makes me want to psychoanalyze this guy even more. probably one of the most unique powers I’ve seen created and explored in a story tbh

I think the entire system of how the world works is really well done in general. constellations watching the apocalyptic bloodbath via livestream and sending donos to their favorite little guys shouldn’t work as well as it does and cracks me up so much 😭 (uriel is the best). I enjoy learning about all the irl different fables, history & mythologies too. plus doing my own research is fun! I did a deep dive through the web to learn about dokkaebi folklore lol I’m having a good time

I also related hard to how dokja read TWSA throughout his life, the story was a companion for him. got choked up bc I reflected on how much my own favorite companion stories for years mean to me. there’s been situations I’ve thought “what would (character) do?” dokja saying stuff like “what would joonghyuk do?” felt like I got called out <3 I’d probably be the same as him if my favorite characters suddenly came to life

anyways yeah I caught up with the manhwa looked online and discovered it comes from an already completed novel with over 500 chapters and the manhwa is barely a third into adapting it though it’s been releasing every week for 4 years. and that it’ll take like 10 more years to finish. I then planted my face in my hands and screamed with despair

I’ll shrivel up waiting to see what happens……………heyyy woahhhh.. whats this light of salvation ? the novel file just completed download on my phone ? that’s crazyy wow I opened it ? im scrolling it right now ? omg I’m telling myself in the mirror “pace yourself, try to space your reading out do NOT read too fast” ?

jokes aside im excited, first I’ll take some time to read back through the earlier chapters for extra context of scenes! >:D after I finish doing that…. pls pray for my self-control to try stretching this for as long as possible. I’m pumped to see what happens next with this demon king part so maybe I’ll read along with the manhwa unless I get too impatient heh

Aaliyah Perkins (UT) | Y'know my first playthrough I kinda hated the fancy cowboy outfits, but they grew on me so here's Aaliyah in an outfit she would never actually wear to work on the ranch. She was peak Horsegirl™️growing up and not much has changed.

Iolanda Julivert (TPS) | I wasn't actually sure if the princess in TPS counted as an MC, but hell, she has a love interest and you spend half the story as her so I'm counting it. She gives a lot of Leo energy. They would definitely party together if they weren't so separated by age.

Yasmin Delaney (TPS) | The historian to her sister's party princess. She would obviously be the Liam to Iolanda's Leo. I'd like to think she went on to get a PhD in history after the events of TPS, because hey, who says you can't be a princess and a doctor?

Lysander (TCH) | We're gonna call the back half of this list The Rise of the Enbies. Starting with Lysander. I love a character who chooses to be kind especially when it's hard, so they had my heart from the start. And I made the Midsummer Night's Dream reference before TCH did in Book 1.

Zola Saunders (IM) | Goes on my list of characters who are 100% done 100% of the time. She was born not giving a fuck, she died not giving a fuck, and now she's gonna not give a fuck as a vampire.

Kira Stone (MAH) | I hate that they have a default name. Yeah they made them go by a middle name, but you try coming up with a name that goes with Valentine, Stone, and jives with the fact that they're sister is named Perdita. I wanted to do a Shakespeare reference, but I couldn't make it work. Anyway, Kira definitely goes on to be a private investigator because they couldn't see themselves as anything else.

i was watching a bunch of videos on blogthegreatrouge

and remembered my once love for PJs Daycare. but now i know its disgusting like.. so bad. so is she. i just. ugh.

so, im going to remake it. i mean remake that shit i will do my best to make it better. starting with removing all the fankids characters and ships because.. sanscest is w e i r d.

anyway, for the people who some how dont know what im talking about is heres a summery. if i spelled that wrong shut up no i didnt

pjs daycare was a AU for undertale made by blogthegreatrouge. the au, was as it says, a daycare. basically all the sans aus were children, from like 3-6 i think, and the characters were... sanscest ship characters or sans fusions. one of the caretakers, and our- basic mc, is Paperjam, or PJ, the fusion between ink sans and error sans. i say fusion because i think that what they were originally intended to be before the fandom... yoinked them. aslo i refuse to ship sans aus together because thats WEIRD AS ALL SHIT. anyway. those are the basics, shipkids/fusion sanses are the caretakers and the sanses are children. interesting concept ig (i will make it better trust)

ok now that we have the basics down, lets get to the story. this was a ask blog so there wasnt much story, but from what i do remember, there were 2 major plot lines. the first plot line was uhm. borderline gr00ming. basically fresh sans, the satire sans au, has a crush on PJ. this fresh is i think about 3 yrs old. so ok, hes a kid, kids are weird. he claims he wants to marry pj. again, child, children say that stuff alot. and you think pj would be yk, normal and be like " no no, we cant do that" nicely and shit. WELL HE DOESNT. THIS BITCH SAYS "we cant get married righ now, but when your all grown up we can ^^" IM SORRY HUH. SIR. WHAT. not only that, later, there is a ask of how would pj react to adult fresh. in which its super weird with really gross sexual tension. not only that, lets follow in this aus rule, aus made by the same creator/s are gonna be related. ok. error, fresh and geno/aftertale are brothers. kinda weird but lets keep going here. pj in rouges interpretation is a ship child. A SHIP CHILD. MEANING FRESHIE HERE IS IS UNCLE?? ITS SO WEIRD?? also there is a mini plot line where ink and error like each other and its a big deal even tho, again, CHILDREN. also same person but i digress.

our next plotline is... where shit hits the fan. so, error, gets deathly sick and needs to go to the hospital. didnt know monsters had hospitals but ok. geno, error's older brother who is at most, 5, gets really depressed. and ik depression can come at any age, however, GENO here tries to commit farewell. this. doesn't. make. sense. a child isnt old enough to even comprehend death that well, let alone have the feeling to die AND ACT ON IT. not only that, right after stopping geno from leaving this mortal plane (isnt he immortal though?) they completely forget about it and have this weird romance between palette and goth (swap sans and dream sans) (geno and reaper) and its super weird, and gross (not as gross as nerd and jock but still) and palette is weirdly obsessive over goth and shit so its all just a huge pile of SHIT

oh yeah there is also this weird plot line with like this trio of mini villains, one being rouges self insert i think so. yeah.

anyway, that was pj's daycare. i will be reworking and remaking the entirety of this au. so uh.

he feels his blood go cold, and he feels pressure wash over him.. he tries not to cry or choke up when he speaks.

he has to act like a gentleman. he needs to be understanding. he needs to be the strong one because you're sitting on the floor and crying, apologizing and hiding your face in your hands.

your sobs and shaky form hurts him more. he knows it's not your fault. it's his, in all honesty.

he left you so cruelly 5 years ago, and even though you've been together for a year and shared many happy moments with hushed giggles and loving kisses, you couldn't find the same love for him as when you were young.

baxter tries not beat himself up, pushing down his darker minds degrading chorus...

he puts a hand on your head, smoothing his palm over his pants. his palm hurts from digging his nails into it.

tonight is going to be rough. tomorrow will be harder.

"it's okay y/n. we had a good time together right?" baxter smiles. although the thickness of his voice makes you tuck in on yourself more.

he continues soothing you, ignoring the tears in his eyes. "i understand... we're so different now, it's not surprising it didn't work."

baxter's humorless and watery laugh makes you cry more, and you know he's crying now too. "we should stop looking back on the past now." baxter pets your head, trying to milk the last bit of affection from your dying relationship.

he feels like his world is opening up.

you turn your face away and wipe roughly at your tears. you know you look like a mess, but you feel so overwhelmed, and you have enough shame to not want to face baxter.

you finally look up at him, baxter lifting his gaze from his knees to look at you, glazed amber staring back at you. your heart clenches.

even though you don't love him the same way anymore, this kills you all the same.

"i'll... get my stuff tomorrow." you whisper.

cove was torn when you got with baxter.

he's always loved you, and when you still pined for baxter even after that summer, he got accustomed to putting his feelings aside to let your relationship grow.

but now you were sitting on his couch, looking distant at his fish tank.

your eyes were blurred with tears, and it took everything to curl yourself into the corner of the couch.

"y/n?..."

cove goes to call out again- "yeah?" you mutter, your words tiny and soft. weak. forced.

"what can i do for you?" cove wanted to gather up all your pain and take it away. so that the only thing left was for you to be happy.

...

you lick your lips, fixing your feet that were sliding off the cushion.

"i don't know. nothing for now." you turn and try to smile. "this is okay for now, i'm sorry for bugging you i..."

you swallow. "i don't wanna be alone right now."

cove comes closer, wrapping his arms around you, hiding your face in his neck. "i don't mind, i'll always be here for you."

it's silent for a long moment, the only sound being the TV cove didn't turn off at your insistence.

less sound meant your thoughts were louder.

you focused on the trickling water of the tank and it suddenly made you aware of how dry you were after crying.

you wrestle your arm free from the blankets and cove's hold, and you feel him watching your every move.

after drinking half the glass, you lean into cove's chest and take in the sound of his heartbeat.

cove is the only thing that keeps your head from spinning and the world from crashing.

you huff. this is frustrating. you're frustrated with everything, mostly with yourself.

"do you... wanna talk now?" cove inquires gently, rambling about how you don't have to but it might help.

you don't say anything for a bit, tracing the waves and lines of cove's tattoo.

"..even though i pined for him for so long..." you start, slowly letting the words come to you. "i thought this was it, i thought i was over him leaving me. but..."

you start to cry, so you sit up to turn around, hiding your face in your hands.

"i spent so long being sad that.."

"i spent so long being angry that.."

"i spent so long being angry then sad and missing him that.."

you swallow, muttering. "that i didn't even realize when i stopped loving him..."

it's quiet. and you don't look up to see if cove heard, but you assume he did since he asks a interesting question...

"then.. why are you so sad? i mean i get it, but..." cove groans, trying to word his thought carefully and correctly.

"i'm sorry.. it just seems like you're upset about something else, too..."

you exhale shakily, despising the tears still pouring from your eyes.

you take in what cove asked, debating what to say before you speak. "i thought this was what i wanted, but now i..." you start crying, overwhelmed.

cove just pulls you back into him, deciding that was enough talking for tonight, and now it was just about cheering you up.

it's been a few months, things are... different. some days are difficult. but most of them are better, just a bit mellow.

it took a bit, but your new apartment finally feels like home, and you can sit in the silence and solitude of it without feeling like your chest is caving in.

at least for today.

you and cove laugh, falling onto your new mattress after finally getting it through the door.

after the giggles die down, you flip over and look at cove. "thanks for helping."

cove turns his head to smile at you, "nah. derek did most the work."

"well, he's not here to receive my 100th thanks, so just take it."

cove laughs heartily.

lately, cove has started to look more handsome. ethereal, in fact. and you can't look away..

"y/n?.."

you hum, looking back at the ceiling. fuck you got caught.

"you're doing it again y'know?"

you whip around to look at cove, who has a smug grin on his face. "what? that's the second time you've said that! what does it even mean?!" you exclaim, slapping cove's chest with the back of your hand.

he laughs joyously, "like you're thinking philosophical thoughts!"

you roll your eyes, "ooo big words there, ocean boy. wouldn't you like to know about my philosopher thoughts." you mock, teasing cove with a grin you don't bother to fight coming across your lips.

"yep." cove pops the 'p', simply agreeing that he wants to know what's on your mind.

you watch each other in silence, and your eyes fall on his lips and he parts them to speak but you beat him to it, muttering lowly and if it wasn't for the emptiness and tranquility around you, he wouldn't have heard it.

"i'm thinking about how pretty you are..."

cove stills, you can hear his breath hitch and he stops breathing for a moment.

you continue, letting the water flow now that you've opened the gates.

"i know you've always had a crush on me, and please don't think i'm playing with you.." you swallow, keeping eye contact so as to will yourself to go on, although the depths of cove's glassy eyes make you flatter a bit.

you curl your fingers into your palms, keeping yourself from petting his cheek.

"at some point i started to.. realize just how much you are there for me. and i.." you lick your lips, "i love you."

cove starts to cry, and to that he sits up to hide his face.

you sit up as well, reaching out to cove's back. you don't know if you should touch him or not...

he cries for a bit. eventually, you do reach out, curling your fingers in the fabric of his shirt. you can't bring yourself to come closer, not sure how to comfort cove or if you even should, but you want him to know you're still here and waiting.

waiting for what? you're not sure.

waiting for him to seek your comfort? waiting for him to reject you? either way, you're waiting, and he turns around when he finally stops the waterworks.

"y-you mean it?" cove chokes, and you nod.

"yeah." you whisper, like any louder approval and it'll come off as half-hearted.

he pauses for a moment, looking at you. searching your gaze and trying to pick your brain apart.

"did you... break up with baxter because you...?" he can't say it, like he's not allowed to. like if he says it, it might shatter.

"love you?" you finish, "no. breaking up with baxter had nothing to do with you or my feelings for you."

"good, good..." cove repeats, sagging a bit in relief. "can i ask you one last question?"

I personally love how much variation you gave mc and flavour text. I am a newbie to writing if and I was wondering if you had any tips on making such an interesting mc player character. I love how your mc character player had some stuff set in stone that was canon, but there was still so much room for customisation without making the mc feel like a blank slate. I think things that are set in stone about MC are things that reflect their past. People call MC a doormat or whatever and they say that MC doesn't stand up for themselves as much as they should (though I do add choices for that cough....) but it makes sense when you think about it? MC has abandonment issues and has a history of losing people. Obviously they'd be fearful of losing their friends/the people that are close to them, especially after Seven. So yeah, MC isn't stomping over everyone's toes and telling everyone to fuck off but the people-pleasing part of their personality feels a little on brand for them haha Or maybe I'm speaking as someone who knows too much, so it skews my perspective IDK !

I am aware there are people that don't like that so I add choices for that anyway, which is also something you need to think about! How to balance narrative vs fan satisfaction. Some things are canon with no ifs ands or buts about it but there are others that im flexible on because it doesn't harm what I have for the story.

Basically, you should look at the bigger picture when it comes to MC. what are things that make sense to be canon when you think about their past/relationships and their current and previous circumstances? and what are things you can be flexible on?

I've gotten a lot of people coming to me upset because they say "my mc wouldn't do that" which is understandable but! we are not omnipresent writers and we have very limited resources so you just have to decide what choices are important and what are really just filler yk yk

Not everyone is going to like your MC. A lot of it comes from people playing as self-inserts/creating fully formed characters vs people approaching the MC as another character in the story. It really comes down to what kind of MC that is, and what type of MC you need for your story :)

I would say the INFAMOUS MC is half and half in that regard! <3

plus, they were like what, 10?? 11??? idk how old they were when Luci/MC got together. but i know these fuckers are fresh out of high school and Luci is getting drunk, which means biTCHES ARE UNDERAGE DRINKING (which is an interesting characterization for Luci that i think reveals a lot about the Rivera parents as well as Luci's connections to wealth/alcohol), so there is that drama of "hide, hide, hide!!" if nothing else

and, again, then there's not only the angst of "ah, my ex-partner and/or -best friend" and the wanting to make up platonically/romantically but there is also the angst of "i knOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET MURDERED SOON AND IM NOT READY TO GO TO YOUR FUNERAL BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO STOP THIS" kind of "lost time", "call for rain-check until you can't" angle too. plus, i could see Luci being protective or frustrated or terrified, there are so many fun angles no matter the platonic/romantic additional feelings involved. and, because of how this pov works, there isnt going to be a kiss or anything happening. so it's just going to be slow-burn (to friends or lovers, idk your mc) and pining (platonic pining is a thing), i love that for me specifically lmao

Ok so, I have only ever watched one episode of Adventure Time, and it was on a hotel room TV, in terrible hindi dub, and I barely remember it on account of being 10(?) but it horrified me.

I remember the MCs trying to get Ice King a girlfriend or something, but he keeps being a gross asshole so they take him to a lake and point at some swans to try and explain love to him. They point to two swans kissing like ':D' and he's like 'ewww' and then the male swan suCKS IN AND EATS THE FEMALE and IK's like ':)))' while the boys stare in horror.

adventure time is absolutely very fucked up in a lot of different ways. the early seasons leaned into that type of absurd shit you just described a lot more especially. while the later ones actually started getting more existential and building on the worlds lore.

there wasnt exactly a focused plot, per say. i mean, there was, but it wasnt something methodical and planned out, it was played by ear. and i think it really worked. the way they did it turned out a really cool magic system (based on the idea that reality is just collective perception, and magic users are aware of this and can manipulate perception ergo reality. but the more cosmic knowledge you have the more insane or depressed you become etc especially if youre mortal), and also cool world building (it takes place in a post apocalypse after a nuclear war, now far into the future the face of the earth has completely changed but the horrors unleashed still impact it today), and also a lot of really amazing themes (the world is always changing and nothing is ever permanent, but no matter how things change things also stay the same, in a different way. especially where bonds and love are concerned. everything stays.)

and YEAH there are lesbians (i mean i always hc marcy as bi but still). and they also come from the shows improvisational nature. theres a lot of genuinely really amazing relationships and plotpoints born out of that to me. like, as the show starts to get a lot more thematically dense later on it can seem like a weird shift. some ppl say it got pretentious over time bc its not as goofy (its still pretty goofy lol), but i think it worked... like... perfectly.

because its a coming of age story where the main character actually ages, it actually feels so right that the world around him begins to seem different too. it makes sense that when he was 12 we were doing stupid goofy adventures, when he was 15 we were watching him deal with a lot of really fucked up trauma, and when he was 17 we watched him learn to grow as a person who thinks beyond simple terms of good and evil.

i know im tottaaallly rambling at this point but theres really an insane amount to talk about with adventure time. the timeline alone is ridiculous. but mostly i think my passion comes down to the fact that i was also growing up with the story, always around the same age as the mc going through similar stuff... even now, the story is focusing on a depressed 20-something trying to find whimsy in her life again. and technically the last episode timeline-wise is about accepting death lol

so like idk how exactly id recommend it to a new viewer, its really possible that a lot of ppl wont be able to really tolerate the early seasons as adults (i mean, i think theyre charming, but i have nostalgia goggles lol). that being said i think that its a series totally worth a shot for everyone... eventually. if it sounds interesting you just gotta accept the goofiness at first and trust that youre in for something wild in a totally different way later on. and totally unique and cool and special in a way nothing else has really been able to capture for me since.

TL;DR: no yeah the show was incredibly fucked up and that swan did eat that other swan. but it does have themes and also lesbians.

God I agree so hard with you on the afterstories. I get what they were trying to do with them as a sweet ending to take the sting off the main story but it just cheapens the story so much!! I don't feel relief when reading about how they miraculously survived, I just kind of feel frustrated because the afterstory just really doesn't earn that relief at all.

I'd have preferred if they turned the afterstory into an actual additional part of the main story detailing how the boys survived because at least then it'd have a better chance of landing since it's more developed than just "oh yeah don't worry about it I got out fine :)". Or if they really wanted to keep it an afterstory...I don't know, maybe a reunite in the afterlife thing? It's also cliche but at least it doesn't cheapen the story as much by magically undoing the tragedy of the story.

Of course, ideally they'd stick to their guns and just end the story where it's supposed to end without any afterstory. Maybe I could understand the need for a fluffier epilogue for the other AU cards which could catch players not expecting angst off guard since the art doesn't give anything away but for Enduring Light's set of cards? Every single card has the boys looking badly beat up or in a bad situation for Luke, I'd be surprised if anyone pulled for the cards not expecting heavy angst.

I think in the end I just act as if the afterstories are non-canon, and considering during the secret chats some of the boys talk about their card counterparts as if they did die I think that might be what the devs intended too. I do still think the stories told in the AU cards are generally good from what little I've read, I just wish they'd commit that tiny bit more to telling a tragedy when they want to.

the thing i most most agree with is if they took the "actual additional part of the main story detailing how the boys survived" approach to the afterstory, i wouldve Loved that. for luke's in particular his recovery seems like suCH AN INTERESTING STORY IN ITSELF HELLO??? he was fished outta the ocean and injured so badly that his recovery took a whole year???? i wanna read that!! i wanna read about him coming to terms with his injuries (and maybe even disability because you dont get out of an Exploding Airplane Crash unscathed. in my mind he had to get a limb amputated (hi chika if youre out there reading this ask you have infected me with the "amputate luke" hc) or at the very least cannot walk for a solid period of time after the accident. oh, and ptsd of course) and how he copes with all this

all in all, my dissatisfaction with the inclusion of the afterstories in this set of cards seems to show a pattern for my dissatisfaction with other tot cards i didnt vibe with: they were all (even partly) caused by tot's dedication to the format of their cards rather than the story within it

why didnt i like ssr looming nightmare? 6 acts were not enough to flesh out mc's side of the story, given that it was her nightmare. alas, 6 acts are all we get for regular ssr cards

why didnt i like ssr orange scent? 3 acts were NOWHERE near enough space for luke to be able to get over his fears and propose to mc. alas, 3 acts is all we get for anniv ssr cards

why didnt i like this bit of ssr sky ashes? because the existence of the afterstory undermines the tragedy's tragedy-ing. alas, afterstories are a staple of big event ssr cards

like.....i get that tot has to be consistent in their format for types of cards but it makes me sad to see when that consistency actively does the card story a disservice. these stories could be homeruns! if they were treated as the priority and not something to shove into a template that must be followed

anyhoo, it's nice to see im not the only one w iffy feelings abt the afterstories. i still liked sky ashes and im going your route about it by mentally editing the afterstory to be a recovery story instead of a fluff fix-all

tyler being pushy was understandable for how it came to be, and i love how toxic his confession scene was. im glad he turned out the way he did! a bastard

but xavier expecting something from wednesday? that was so forced. he deals with hyde nightmares and bianca and really expected something from wednesday, of all people? if he truly understood how weird she is he should have not expected anything from her while the hyde is still loose

side note, wednesday has got to be a virgo like me for the way she single mindedly pursues her objectives. so satisfying for an MC to be SMART

comparing this to enid's breakup scene with wednesday, what enid expected was friendship, or at least some sort of reciprocation to her friendly advances, not romance. xavier was asking for way too much from wednesday, since she obviously hasnt even comprehended friendships yet

so wednesday's different reactions to xavier and enid lashing out? yeah girl i love it. wednesday is silent the entire time xavier pours his heart out, and she pulls out the drawing to explain her actions, going back to the only thing she has ever thought of when she was with him. with enid, she snaps back, is quick to be defensive, lists out so many little things-- shes so emotional in front of enid instead of xavier bc she has seen enid as what enid expects of her: a friend. she couldnt reciprocate that during xaviers outburst bc she never felt the same as him. she's both used them for her own gain and they rightfully burst out, but one expected more of her when shes still learning how to treat others humanely. the parallels were... wow

(spoilery-review stuff will be below the cut but tldr: summertime rendering is really good, subverted a lot of my expectations, gorgeous animation, keeps you on your toes and has smart characters and good writing, just try not to cringe too hard at some of the haha boobs/haha panties jokes i swear there's not too many)

okay funny story. i got interested in this anime literally yesterday because one of my favorite channels was analyzing its ending song by chance

and i was like oh it's like anohana but a murder mystery? interesting premise. doesn't necessarily guarantee that it's good, the animation looks pretty at least, but it's 25 episodes and my attention span kinda sucks...

and i see the main girl in a swimsuit and im like alright. the second there's a really weird zoom on her chest im out

and the first shot or so was of the swimsuit girl (ushio) without any weird zooms so i was like okay hey we're in the clear so far

AND THEN

one minute ten seconds. dawg. that actually has to be a record of some sort

like. maybe that's a one off joke. maybe they wont do it again and that was just to get weirdos to be like AYYY and keep watching. maybe there is hope

but i hung on anyway because right after that was the OP and it looked really interesting mostly because there were no anime visuals at all until the very end

so yeah i decided to keep watching until the end of the first episode despite my apprehension because i just. wanted to see the dark shit go down. uaghhhhhh

and i kept watching EVEN THROUGH the clear insinuation that the mc's adopted sister was in love with him and that the mc was in love with his other adopted sister and the police officer was looking at porn in public and then FINALLY

they killed my favorite character.

and then they killed the younger sister and then they killed the MAIN CHARACTER AND I WAS LIKE DAWGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

like i was expecting it to be dark but i didnt expect them all to straight up die on screen with blood splatters n everything :sob: wasnt expecting the time loop either

like. you gon have this gorgeous animation just to make the characters' deaths that much more brutal. holy fuck

i realized the other anime this reminded me of. this anime is a anohana x kagerou project crossover. thats fuckin crazy i kinda dig it

people also compare it to re:zero which is fair cuz it has the time travel, the unexpected brutality, the short haired girl who gets rejected in favor of the long haired girl (lmao) i just like kagerou project more

it somehow didnt connect the first time that it wasn't mio and i was like huh i wonder why they suddenly skipped time

and then when this scene rolled around for the second time i literally like. it hit me so fast and i was like FUCK. i was like genuinely terrified help

and then she started stabbing the ever loving shit out of totsumura and i was like oh okay! guess i dont have to wait in suspense for what she'll do at the very least

and then she stabbed shinpei in the throat and i was like OH OKAY

that scene also terrified me cuz like the phone call happening while the killer is nearby is a classic horror trope but like. i dont watch horror usually. that's my worst nightmare

it was on his third death that shinpei really started to shine for me as a protagonist because like. he's smart. notably so! it was really nice because the classic horror starts to fade away at this point and everything becomes a giant chess match

shinpei was also really quick to adapt to everything and it took a LOT of shit going down to make him finally lose his composure, but he gets back in it and doesnt waste time and it was really refreshing because yknow anime (and the horror genre in general) with its overdramatic clueless protagonists

i immediately pegged sou as the loud dumbass yosuke/ryuji type (i love them and their depth, im talking about surface level) best friend who wingmans for shinpei and immediately gets sus of shinpei and gets killed first n shit

but that was my bad like damn sou was a really good character

to be fair this was his first introduction

and the line "I should tell Sou everything" with a shot of the sky is REALLY FUCKING OMINOUS, so i feel like that was a bit of a bait and switch on the author's part lmfao

i stopped taking screenshots around this point so ill just talk about a bunch of parts that stood out to me pff

HIZURU MINAKATA MY BELOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

she's so autistic and so smart and so just. god. i love her

AND RYUUNOSUKE IS BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

i literally wanted to cry seeing him in the ending like dawggggggg he's SO cute id marry him no questions asked

he and hizuru were my favorites along with nezu because badass old man SLAYS

i also surprisingly really liked ushio lmao i thought she'd be like the usual manic pixie dream girl and then just based on her being in a swimsuit but like. she was honestly a joy as a character lmfao

like. her being the biggest powerhouse next to hizuru? did not see that coming, we love a girlboss!! and she's also smart and forward-thinking despite the airheaded vibes so like damn. good character! i really liked what little we got to see of the real ushio interacting with her shadow too, it was a nice bit of character building + it was funny lmao

mio was the only character other than shide that i just straight up did not like lmfaosgkjhsjg the whole "im in love with my stepbrother" was just. fuckin. weird to me from the start and you have no idea how fucking relieved i was that shinpei didn't accept her confession or get with her at the end

of course it's like. not any better that he got with his other stepsister. but like mio was more annoying so it's fine (😭)

she ended up being a damsel in distress who didnt really do anything up until the school fight where she still didnt do much, and with how much ushio emphasized "protect mio" you'd think she' have some sort of plot relevance but nope she just. thought about her brother a lot and confessed after 20 episodes and got rejected and cried

it's like all the buildup to her confession was PURELY to buildup for the ACTUAL confession which was shinpei telling her that he was in love with ushio

which is lame

like jesus her shadow had more plot relevance than her. i literally liked her shadow more than her like ????????

tokiko was a good character though i liked the "i didnt dirty my hands for this" foreshadowing and also her being a lesbian was an unexpected surprise that i liked lmfao she's a fuckin real one for still encouraging mio to be with shinpei despite being madly in love with mio. what the hell was that "i want her to see all of me" line like girl????

shide was a good smart villain, he kinda started getting cheesy typical anime villain by the end but by that point the anime was pretty firmly in the action/strategy genre and relying a lot less on the horror/mystery part so it was alright

i did love the talk he and shinpei had about video games and the FF7 namedrop was hilarious lmfao

it was cool how they had the callback to him being a video game nerd during the first fireworks festival with that 2d 3d king thing

absolutely despise him for what he did to hiruko though like. ew.

i didnt really get why hiruko deadass reverted into this weird lookin baby thing at the end but like haise was cute i liked her

didnt understand how they literally changed history either but i guess the magic eyes are like "fuck time lmao all my homies hate time" so oh well, i guess it works

the ending was really a full on "everybody lives and is happy" type deal but like. i didnt even mind man i was literally ecstatic seeing hizuru's boobs again like holy shit. you know you're watching a weird ass anime when you start crying at the fucking fanservice scenes like ohhhh my god

and like goddammit they deserve happiness

although. i was a bit pissed that they brought ushio back to life. like yeah she deserved to be brought back and yeah i do love her but rip the themes of grief and regret i guess

the show was never really about grief so i get why she was brought back but like ueeeuueueuueuee the whole "i don't want to do anything i'll regret again (including leaving ushio before we had the chance to say goodbye) so i have to keep moving forward" was really good character stuff and hrekjajsghjhsg i guess it paid off at the end???

whatever ill take getting hizuru and ryuunosuke back no matter the narrative costs

anyway yeah really good anime, definitely exceeded my expectations (which were pretty low to be fair though), i did watch all 25 episodes within 24 hours so i might be a little insane

Hello there! This was such an interesting request and I am glad I was able to write it ( it’s kinda my fav genre..) ! I hope you like it!

Please keep in mind that I this is a fanfiction, everything that happens here is ,,dramatized’’ and may not apply to a real situation.

Jumin

Your eyes wandered back to the big alarm clock on your drawer. It was 2AM.

Your hands found their way to your face as you took a deep breath. You could feel yourself getting nervous, panicking because you knew that it was getting late because you knew that you had to take a lot of exams the next day and because you knew you wouldn’t feel good at all.

You kept studying day and night for that one exam. You missed meals and worked on just that one exam so that you would be at top.

After all, you had to be equal to Jumin, your fiancé. You wanted to be accepted by your in-laws.

You groaned as you kicked the blanket away and got up. Barefoot, you walked to your drawer to take some sleeping pills. At least these should help you, you hoped.

And so you took them.

However, you didn’t know that the next morning, when your alarm rang at 6 am, you would feel totally dizzy and sick.

The clock kept ringing as you sleepily and sickly approached the clock, failing as you collapsed, staying unconscious for a long, long while.

More than four hours had passed when Jumin hastily opened the door to your apartment, wondering why you didn’t take the exam, just to find you on the floor, sweaty and totally cold.

At that very moment, Jumin was scared for his life. His heart was beating like crazy and he couldn’t forgive himself for not checking on you earlier.

,,J…Jumin?’’ you groaned, feeling sick. The urge to vomit overcame you as your head was spinning once again.

,,I am here, Mc…,’’ he whispered, kissing your forehead.

,,And I will stay here at least for a few months until you can sleep better so that you don’t have to take any pills. I will cook daily for you so that you can have three meals a day and I will drink a lot of water with you…as long as you stay healthy by my side…’’ he whispered, making you understand that he found out how much you were actually struggling…

Zen 

You blinked a few times until you realized that you were awake once again.

You were still tired and a glance at your clock made you realize that you didn’t even sleep for two hours.

You knew that this would go on for longer and that you would probably stay awake until 6 am in the morning.

Like always, you were stressed and everyone around you could feel the stress you felt.

The pressure you had, the anxiety you had of failing a class made you feel even worse and no one but yourself could help you to deal with all these problems you had.

Indeed, just like you guessed, you stayed awake and glanced towards the clock for another four hours until it was 6 am.

You knew that this would be a hard morning, but nevertheless, you managed to get up, tidy up, and get ready for a few classes.

,,Then, let’s meet up after lunch!’’ Zen grinned, waiting for your response. Seeing how happy he was to help you study, you couldn’t reject his offer.

,,Yeah, let me also take a nap and then let’s meet up in front of the school,’’ you answered.

Although, the nap you wanted to take was hard to achieve.

You decided to skip lunch and instead took two sleeping pills so that you could at least take a short nap, but something went wrong.

You still couldn’t fall asleep and after a few minutes, you got so angry that you decided to get up and take one more pill.

Unfortunately in that very moment, you could feel your legs giving up and your world spinning. Before you could support your body anywhere, you collapsed and landed on the floor….

CHANGE OF POV

I woke up with a sweaty face and a racing heart, realizing that I had a nightmare, a nightmare I hoped I would never come to see.

Realizing that it was time to meet up with Mc, I quickly tried to get ready and headed out.

The streets of Seoul were cold and I hoped that she was wearing her hat and her scarf.

Minutes passed, which turned almost into an hour and after calling Mc six times and being ignored, it came to my mind that my nightmare was similar - with the difference that Mc was in danger.

Without thinking, my body moved on its own and approached the home of my girlfriend which luckily was only ten minutes away.

,,Thank God she gave me her spare key,’’ I muttered to myself before I opened the door.

The sight I had was horrified.

Her wonderful hair on the floor, her body a few steps away from the bed, and Mc didn’t seem to move.

,,MC!’’ I yelled, running to her and trying to wake her up.

I quickly approached the fridge to take some water and splash it over her, realizing that she neither had food or a single bottle of water.

Glancing back I even saw something looking like they were some pills and thinking about it gave me shivers - maybe she overdosed? 

Without hesitating, I called medical support and stayed close to her, promising myself that this would never ever happen again…

Yoosung

At first it was funny, you and Yoosung both had a messy sleep schedule, stayed up for a long time and went to sleep even later.

You woke up early.

At first it was okay, both of you had bags below the eyes, but you still felt okay.

But the longer and the more you did that play, the more your body had to pay, and you only noticed how bad it was for your health when exams were near and you were trying to sleep a bit and to study for the next day - it was no use.

Your tears were falling as you were looking at the black ceiling.

You sighed and noticed that it was serious, what you did to your body.

The doctor already prescribed you meds. Between sleeping pills, you also had to take something for your panic attacks, and the worry of not sleeping was giving you even more attacks.

You turned around and closed your eyes, praying and praying to God to make you finally fall asleep, without succeeding.

And finally, you had enough. After way too many hours straight of not sleeping, you tried to get up, go to the bathroom, and take the sleeping pills you were trying to not use.

While waiting for them to do their work, you quickly finished a few things, thinking you had enough time to clean up the room so that Yoosung wouldn’t collapse at the sight of your room.

However, you never thought that Yoosung would have a totally different view this time and before you could even stop your dizziness, or at least hold onto something, your eyes went black and your body went limp.

You stayed alone on the floor until the next morning, seven hours later, when Yoosung found you and called an ambulance.

,,YOUNGSTERS THESE DAYS ARE CRAZY!’’ the doctor hissed at Yoosung while you were laying in bed.

An IV was hanging on you, trying to nullify whatever you left out in the last few days.

,,If you really love her, you will take care of her and yourself! Go to sleep early and for God’s sake eat regularly!’’ he kept telling Yoosung, a crying mess, while he remembered all those times the two of you did the most dangerous stuff to your health, thinking it was funny…

Jaehee

,,I wish you had told me…no, I wish I would have noticed,’’ Jaehee whispered next to you, your eyes closed as you were catching up on the sleep you lost in the last few days.

Jaehee on the other hand was almost dying with regrets as she held your hand strongly in hers, trembling for your life.

Even though she was assured that you would survive, she was somehow fearing for your life and she couldn’t manage to lose one more person in her life, someone who meant the world to her.

Your mother died half a year ago. It was the most traumatic experience you ever had to go through and Jaehee supported you through it, although she didn’t know how serious it really was.

Whenever you rejected her food, she just brushed it off as a sign that you weren’t hungry.

Whenever you sent her late night messages, she thought you woke up in the middle of the night, thinking of her.

But she didn’t know that you were falling into depression and that you were struggling and in pain.

Jaehee didn’t notice.

And so it happened that you actually collapsed in your own home. No one knew or heard anything and you must have been out and alone for at least six to seven hours.

No food, no drink.

Dark rooms, sleeping pills all over the cold floor next to you, and the paramedics guessed that before you could even take them, you must have collapsed.

The truth was much darker.

You were restless and didn’t sleep for way too long, being scared and nervous. The doctor came up with the resolution that you must have felt sick and still took the medicine, collapsing a bit afterwards.

Jaehee didn’t even want to know how or why it happened, in fact she just wanted you to wake up, hug you, stay by her side, and never ever feel so devastated…

Saeyoung

The red haired man knew that you were dealing with insomnia.

He knew that you were weak against stress, a person filled with anxiety and thoughts, and still he filled you with stress and gave you a few scares since he himself was at the end of his nerves and gave you a lot to think about.

He was lonely and abused and you tried to take all his sadness in you, trying to help him and support him, forgetting your own body and not caring about it.

You were a fan of hacking and decided that it would help him to relax, knowing how his brother was since apparently his friend didn’t share much.

You were left days without food and drinks, you forgot to go to sleep, and once you fell asleep you woke up a few hours later, not really refreshed and unable to go back to sleep.

You were the first one between the both of you to live for the hacking.

However, your skills were soon handled as a weapon for your own health.

Saeyoung found you after you didn’t answer his phone, and being him, he was scared you left him.

Still, he decided to go and check on you, finding the worst - your lifeless body on the floor.

His first call was Jihyun and luckily, he quickly calmed the young man down, telling him that you weren’t dead, but just out.

Nevertheless, Jihyun decided to call a good friend of his, Jumin Han, who made sure to send someone.

When you woke up, you found yourself in the arms of Saeyoung, his cold, wet cheek pressed against your head as you heard him sniffle.

,,I thought I lost you… I had so many thoughts going through my head when I saw you there,’’ Saeyoung gasped. You didn’t register the situation until you woke up a second time.

,,The pills I took weren’t working with my body?’’ you asked after you tried to find out the reason for your collapsing.

,,Let’s look out for each other and make sure that no one gets hurt or is in pain, Mc…’’ Saeyoung begged you when he kissed your head once again, before both of you finally fell into a deep slumber.

Saeran

You groaned annoyed after turning off the third ,,hypnotizing sleeping video“.

Nothing helped.

You couldn’t fall asleep till late at night.

And if you for once could close your eyes, you immediately woke up an hour later.

The world around you seemee to make you want to go crazy.

You could feel different emotions build up in you and that’s when you decided that you couldn’t handle it on your own anymore.

The doctor did prescribe you medicine, however, you never wanted to take it since you still believed in trying it yourself - until tonight that is.

Without reading anything on the package or similar, you took two pills. Perhaps this was your mistake as you should have read everything and been informed about the symptoms you could have while taking them.

You laid awake for another bit until you decided to grab your phone to inform Saeran, your boyfriend, that you would like to sleep a bit more in the morning.

You could just type down his name and send the message before your head felt as if it was spinning, as if you were riding something, making everything spin around crazily.

You couldn’t hold onto yourself anymore and collapsed - without finishing your message.

Saeran in the morning had totally different worries.

You were a bit late, you didn’t finish writing your issue while messaging him, and he was scared.

Being so intelligent, he tried to hack into the CCTV of your house, only seeing that no one came into or left your apartment.

However, he was worried.

Listening to his gut, the boy visited you at home and when you didn’t open the door, he had nothing left but to open the door, luckily knowing the password.

He gasped when he saw you. You hurt yourself around your temple and were unconscious laying on the floor.

Five seconds.

It took him five seconds to gather you in his arms, carrying you like a princess and notice that you lost weight.

Ten more seconds until he yelled at the nurse to help you and three hours until you woke up.

But when you did, Saeran was already preparing some fruit for you and a lot of water and promised that he would help you with your sleeping problem…

Ok so im this is kinda intense, lots of cursing.

No cus I hate the way Belphegor literally got off so easily with his actions. Now personally I wouldn’t let the shit he did slide. Granted we don’t have much power because Devildom is a whole ‘nother dimension but you know who has power over Devildom and responsible for the Exchange Student shit? Diavolo. And fuck it if it means I get eternal hell for it but I’ll tell him that clearly this whole exchange is a joke: you forced me to go here without my permission, without my knowledge, without ANY of my shit that will make me comfortable enough to think about this whole ordeal and accept. His so-called attempt at uniting the three species failed, people he trusted us with are pieces of dogshit, and not to mention some of the brothers clearly are not going to change their views so what made him possibly think that this was going to work? His idea was a dream of his and he should’ve kept it that way. I’m not going to stop arguing until I get to go home. Diavolo clearly has to change something if the first attempt failed.

The hilarious part about this is that I can trust Diavolo to not want to kill me if I said all of this to his face.

Everyone else will certainly try to do so, but not Diavolo, isn't that sad? Doesn't make him any less frustrating to deal with, but at least I can rant and rave at him about his mistakes and selfish nature and inherent biases without him losing his temper in an attempt to shut me up like certain other someones I know. Wouldn't it have been some nice angst to look at Diavolo, after all this death shit that happened and the sweeping under the rug and go "You never viewed me as an equal."

But yeah, from the start I 100% expected Diavolo to not view humans, angels, or even demons as equal from the start. I can't say he's arrogant, but he plays around in the same manner that a kid does with toys. As in, he doesn't realize the damage he's doing cause the people around him refuse to tell him shit. And even when he does witness the damage, he's much rather protect himself by trying to see the good and hope that justifies the bad.

Realistically, I'd probably end up using him to be quite honest, Diavolo. His loneliness makes him an easy target. It's clear he wants a friend that doesn't care for his status or be fearful of him, which opens up a position to slot oneself in and become that friend. Because of this want, there are many things you can potentially get away with because he wants his friend to disregard his status.

And you all know I'm a sucker for characters that set themselves up to be hurt. But yeah, I do like Diavolo, shockingly enough. Most of my anger isn't directed at the character Belphegor himself so much as the writers and the decisions they've made to make him a love interest. It feels like everyone's empathy towards the MC was reduced in order to forgive Belphegor. Made everyone feel vastly out of character just to cater to him specifically. To baby the baby, so to say. The emphasis placed on protecting the MC that's been shown numerous times? Out the window, we gotta celebrate that Belphegor's back. Nothing else matters but that. It's just...why? Why is Belphegor the exception to that rule? The writers piss me off. The favoritism.
