I've been a huge fan of LoTS for a while now, and one thing that I really admire about it is how you've built a world steeped in history both inspired by our world and unique to LoTS' world. How did you go about balancing both history and magick throughout the story alongside the characterisations from Six? As well as that, with Skyrim and FFXIV being noted influences on LoTS, in what ways, in your view, are concepts such as Light and Dark different in LoTS compared to said influences?
Tudor History helped to form the relationships between each of the characters, what type of magicks and abilities they had, and how they fit into the story.
I’ll make this a Read More since there’s a lot to cover here!
The Queens, History, and Afigmia
Catherine of Aragon was the most religious and led the country through war, so it made sense for her to be the one closest to (a) god and one of the strongest people in the Realm, let alone Afigmia (the name of the world btw; the Realm is a country in the world of Afigmia). She was also the one that survived the longest marriage with Henry, which only served to bolster her strength and have her naturally lead the party, as she was the one that was the most in tune with Henry’s tricks (even if she is shocked and horrified by the information she’s constantly getting).
Anne Boleyn was seem as a sneaky temptress and while she did have her charms, her knowledge and beliefs are what seemed to drive her in history, so she was more based on that. Plus her extremely tense relationship with Catherine (at first) made her being a shadowmancer a really nice foil to Catherine’s light-based Blessed abilities.
Jane Seymour was always in either a good or a “plain jane” sort of vibe and I really didn’t want her to be boring. At the time of first writing the story, Jane was always seen as a good person (through my own fault as well) when I knew she had just as much bite and coldness to her as a “Heart of Stone” would suggest. I also still see her as bound to obey and serve her husband regardless of what she truly thinks about him; I don’t think she really understands just how manipulated she was. Her necrotic magicks were a direct reflection of how she’s not a angel by any means, though I think people can hopefully have some sympathy for her; if this was another life, she could have been an incredible cleric and healer, if only she hadn’t been so manipulated.
Anna of Cleves was one of the toughest for me to write, but at the end of the day the musical and research taught me how badass she was, so I figured she should have the most badass powers of being wielder of a dragon’s literal soul. She was highly underestimated despite being more than capable to take on the duties required of her. She also is a really quick thinker and knows when to engage and when not to (see: historically, Anna of Cleves knowing when to leave when she’s fucked over by Henry), so she made a really good second in command of the Six outside of Catherine. I’ve got more plans for her, but she is, I would argue, the one that got away with more than she parted with when she left Henry’s side (historically speaking as well!).
Katherine Howard was a child but also seen as a temptress like her cousin historically. In LotS, she’s simply really good at illusion and charm magicks because she needed them to survive. She had a coming of age arc in LotS (kind of, it’s still ongoing) because she was just a kid. She’s not fully grown into her powers yet. She was at first a Druid because I think she’d want to just chill and watch everything and enjoy the time she had if she hadn’t been roped into what she was forced into.
Catherine Parr is one of if not the most brilliant of mages in Afigmia, and a lot of her background is based in the fact that she literally talked her way out of being executed historically. I, like a lot of the fandom, would consider her to be the most progressive of the Six, though her historical and LotS parallels haven’t completely finished yet.
The Ladies are moreso reflections of their main queens - Maria is extremely close to Catherine, Maggie would follow Anne to the edge of the earth (and to another realm heh), Joan is very much in Jane’s corner (more than Henry realizes) and Bessie is being trusted with, essentially, the fate of the Holbein troops in the area. They all compliment their queens in ways we haven’t fully seen yet.
It should be noted that the only actual OC of the entire piece, Avril, also compliments her “assigned” queen and current partner, Anna. Avril originally started as a OC from another story I did, where she played the major villain. The idea to include her was because I wanted to bridge universes in my own stories. I also think her relationship with Anna allows for some depth that would help with making the queens a bit more human, while also avoiding any queen/LiW shipping of any kind. I was hoping that it would help to flesh out the world, too, as Avril could be anything I wanted, and could lend some feeling of “other stuff is happening too you know” in the world.
The Light, the Dark, and the Inspirations
The Light and the Dark being not so black and white was always a concept that appealed to me for a majority of reasons. I really dislike how “light means good” and “dark means bad” in traditional stories, so I wanted to turn it on its head.
You see that through the majority of our “bad” characters being somehow associated with the Light - Mary used to be a Blessed, Malus Vir (the guy that tried to take over Hidden Gem - was a Light priest. Necromancy is a corruption of LIGHT, not of Dark.
That’s not to say that the Dark can’t be bad either - obviously it can - but we’re currently in a period of history in Afigmia where the mask is being torn off of the “light is good” norm, and we’re seeing the cracks starting to shine through. Henry claims to be doing this for the good of the realm, and many believe that he is Light incarnate. They’re blinded by their own faith and the stereotypical norms; they cannot see the truth.
Final Fantasy’s Lifestream and the lore around that also helped with creating Katherine’s return as a Blessed in particular, as well as helped to bolster what necromancy could do.
I have only written two chapters since starting and finishing up Shadowbringers (well, up to 5.3) and while I’m happy to be validated in the “turn it all upside down” sort of strategy with the light and the dark, the main inspiration where FFXIV is concerned is the Fae Lands arc. There’s a big reveal coming that, if you’ve played the game or know of Il Mheg, you might be able to clue into early. It’s not the same by any means, but it’s in the same vein.
That being said, if I had to equate one of the six to the FFXIV main cast, I’d say:
Aragon: Y’shtola
Boleyn: Alisae
Seymour: Urianger
Cleves: Thancred
Howard: Ryne
Parr: Alphinaud
But again, I only just started playing that game a few months ago, whereas LotS has been in development/actively updating for over a year now.
Skyrim helped with the magicks, the dragons, and how the gods play into each other and interact. They’re a bit more human than what people think they are, basically. A lot of the magicks that you see in LotS are what I wish I could do in Skyrim, and of course the dragons are kind of very much in tune with that game as well.
There’s other inspirations as well: Runescape, Game of Thrones, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.

The Vice Principal
So I wanted to take the time to pose a little theory I had about The Vice Principal.
Tumblr media
Chapter 5 of Paranatural did well to expand on the world that is Mayview, but we don’t have the full story on her. Just who is she, and how the heck did people even let children near her? Well, that’s what I want to prove.
I think she is a Monster.
Tumblr media
We were already introduced to the idea of monsters before generally with the Cousinhood hunting them, but we got some more important lore in Chapter 5. Davey Jones as our first established Monster Character, and Agent Day’s presence providing information about them.
Tumblr media
Monsters are “corrupted humans.” Due to Davey’s vampiric nature, we can safely assume that “corrupted humans” can range from anything partly-human to humans with non-spectral powers. This definition would apply to Werewolves, Zombies, and even Witches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Patchworm and Davey use the term “The Witch” in reference to a person. Given that Patchwork and Zarei saw the Vice Principal just a few moments before, and how highly doubtful it is that Davey would refer to a second Witch, then that would mean that the Vice Principal is The Witch.
But what does that mean exactly?
Well for starters, witches are known for magic and spell-casting abilities. While the information of paranatural witches are lacking, it can be easily assumed that there is an ability difference between witches and Spectrals.
Tumblr media
Zarei has a full blast of spectral energy here. Yet it doesn’t register with V.P. Even if she has forgotten about who Zarei is, or their history, there should have been more of a reaction to all that spectral energy.
Unless she couldn’t see it.
Tumblr media
Cody couldn’t see Hijack. But Davey could. They are both vampires, but only Davey showed signs of his own spectral powers. Meaning that monsters can’t see ghosts and spectral powers, only Spectrals can. This means that Witch powers come from a separate source, something non-ghost or spirit related.
Furthermore, witches in lore were seen as maleficent and historically people did see witches as satanic, so it isn’t a stretch to assume that the Cousinhood would group them in with monsters as well, being “corrupted” by the powers of Satan.
Hilarious considering that Spender is currently housing Lucifer.
Tumblr media
With V.P established as a witch, it makes this sentence a bit more hilarious in hindsight. She is starting the witchhunt, which is actually a Witch’s Hunt.
But she isn’t just any witch. Like how there are different types of Spectrals, there must be different types of Witches depending on what magic they are proficient at.
And she is a Bug Type Witch.
Tumblr media
Davey doesn’t say “hands,” he says “legs.” As if The Witch doesn’t have any hands at all, only legs.
Now there are a lot of animals in the world that don’t have hands. Their limbs be called paws, claws, hooves, something to further define the limb. But bugs only have legs. A lot of legs.
Tumblr media
Here we see Patchworm and Zarei are being cautious after running into V.P., calling it the “Spider’s Web.” Spiders would use webs to ensnare and trap their victims, something that we had seen happen before.
Tumblr media
She used the string to control her weird child puppet to capture Jeff (who, ironically, was also Hijack’s puppet). It didn’t work, but she still somehow had enough string to contain Hijack for a little while.
If she was just a Spider Witch, I would have called her the Spider Witch from the beginning. But I didn’t, because she is similar to another insect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seriously! You can’t tell me that that nose is normal! There is nothing normal about it. It looks like an electrical cord was stretched out from her skin! And we know that that thing is real.
Tumblr media
We saw her get a nosebleed from the game. That is an actual body part on her face. And it isn’t just her nose that has the similarity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, pretty similar don’t you think? And look! Her arms behind her back even give off the illusion of wings.
Tumblr media
In Patchworm’s mini-flashback, we see the silhouette of V.P. showed in darkness. The background is designed in spider webs. But under her arms the swirling pattern looks more like the design on wings than any web. So it isn’t just spider powers she is mimicking, but mosquito ones as well.
But what are these powers exactly? Well….
Tumblr media
During this time of Hijack’s capture, he called her a “Hag” which is another term for witch. But, one with a bit more darker edge.
Hags are known for eating children.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eating.
Children.
Mayview Middle School just became a huge buffet for this blood-sucker, though I don’t think it is blood she is drinking.
Before we get to that, let’s go over what we know of her history. Really nothing, but we know that Zarei has had history with her.
Tumblr media
They fought one another. Zarai thought she had won a long time ago. And based on the grey shading in the last panel, they weren’t good memories. Especially if just seeing V.P.’s face made her terrified. But I want to focus back on the flashback panel. That is a child being trapped in V.P.’S Shadow, presumably Zarei’s. That plus her position in a school, it implies that she specifically targets children.
But if she intended to harm the school, she would have had opposition.
Tumblr media
We know that Cody is the secret President of the Student Council. We know that he would accept killing Hijack for revenge of what he did to Jeff.
Tumblr media
So then why would he allow V.P. at the school?
If she really is that big of a threat, he could have asked his dad to take her out.
Tumblr media
He may be dangerous, but he is doting. If Cody asks, Davey would probably kill her without remorse. But Cody doesn’t. We know that Cody wouldn’t hesitate to do what he thinks is right. He banned his dad from school grounds. And yet it looks like that the V.P. is working for him. For what reason does Cody have to keep her?
Well….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a power struggle in Mayview. If there is one monster, then surely there must be more. Davey uses his skills to make sure that that struggle is balanced. Not one group is more powerful than another, and Davey is determined to keep it that way.
So maybe Cody is playing the game inside the school as well.
Tumblr media
After Cody came in charge, the school drastically changed, but specifically note Collin’s story.
The V.P. only feeds on the students in detention. That is why she is in charge of capturing delinquents, that is how she is able to eat. And by only feeding on the detention children, the rest are spared from her appetite.
Tumblr media
Also, note the string used to tie these two up like with Hijack. More Spider Silk.
She obviously can’t actually kill any students, that would raise too much suspicion on her. And she is a Major Player in this power balance if Davey knows of her existence. So she would probably use her magic to drain students of something nonphysical that wouldn’t kill them. Say….blood or their spirits?
Trapping them in detention and draining them for consumption still fits into the spider/mosquito abilities.
Tumblr media
Of course, it also looks like that V.P. here is also really into the rules. So it could be a “cake and eat it too” scenario. Where V.P. gets to have the control she desires AND a way to eat/sustain herself.
So what does she want to do now? Well, Hijack certainly piqued her interest.
Tumblr media
That is the look of realization of something that she had been looking for. And that looks like to be body snatching.
Tumblr media
Look at the key word here. “THAT Easily.” V.P. is known for stealing bodies. If we continue the bug theme, there are a lot of parasitic insects that take over bodies or live in them as a host.
Tumblr media
Parasites would infect bodies, so why not a witch infecting the student body?
This also makes Zarei’s confusion make sense.
Tumblr media
If they did defeat her, how is she still standing? Well, she got another body. But it sounds like it would take a long process for it to happen.
Tumblr media
After the game she does out she goes off to look for her “bigger fries”: Hijack. Jeff now is acting like Jeff again. She can’t see spectrals or ghosts, so she –like everyone else—is under the assumption that Hijack left and Jeff is back to normal.
This part is purely speculation since there isn’t much about what she is looking for. But my guess is that learning of Hijack’s existence, a being who can easily possess others, pushed her to try and get her act together for a new body-snatching ability.
But seeing how Davey and Cody got to Hijack first, and that Zarei knows of her return, I’m sure we are going to get a chapter dedicated to their three-way conflict soon enough.

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; MUN & MUSE - MEME
FILL OUT & REPOST ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm.
Tumblr media
Stolen from @mrfunnybone. Since this meme has a bias for canon muses, I’m tagging two of my favorite canon writers that I know didn’t fill this out yet: @soulcoerced and @spearslinger (I wonder if a fellow Undyne RPer has a different take on some of these questions? ^^;;). For everyone else, feel free to steal it and tag me if you do! I’m curious to see how OC muns answer some of these questions...
MY MUSE IS:   CANON / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless / complicated [[ The adult version of my muse is canon, but her teenage equivalent is not present anywhere in Undertale / Deltarune. So, uh… canon but kind of complicated I guess??? I like describing my muse as canon-wise. My Deltarune fishies are undoubtedly AUs at most, canon-divergent at least. ]]
[[ Mun’s note: I’m going to cheat on this. For the next 8 questions, I’ll answer for both Undyne as my teen muse AND regular adult canon Undertale Undyne. My thoughts on her counts as something, right? My muse is based on canon! ]]
Is your character popular in the fandom? YES / NO / IDK [[ Undyne’s character to the rest of the fandom is unpopular (compared to Sans, Chara, Gaster, etc…). It’s a shame, because her dialogue portraits alone would make great meme fodder. HOWEVER, among Undyne fans, I notice there’s an interest in depicting her early years because she’s one of the few cast members who’s had their childhood explicitly mentioned. ]]
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK [[ She’d better not be, because my muse is a  C H I L D. As far as I’ve seen, canon adult Undyne is depicted more often as a ‘badass’ than a ‘sexy fish.’ ]]
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK [[ Younger Undyne is definitely interpreted to be a determined, tough kid. Of course it’s the same for adult canon Undyne. It’s basically her most distinct character trait. ]]
Are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK [[ Lordy, Undyne as a whole is entirely underrated by the fandom... ]]
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO [[ OMG... you’re gonna get me started. I’m marking ‘no’ on this question because this is supposed to be about my aged-down muse. But Undyne... sweet violent Undyne’s very important to Undertale’s story! *fangirling START* Besides being the mid-point antagonist in the game, Undyne adds a layer of the theme of DETERMINATION to the game and how it can manifest in monsters if their bodies are strong enough to handle it. In an allegorical sense, she represents extremism in reaction to oppression and how that passion can take on the form of extreme love or extreme hatred depending on circumstance. So HELL YEAH she’s important to the main story of the game! AAAHILoveThisFish!! *fangirling END* ]]
Were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. [[ Same as the previous answer for my teen Undyne: begrudgingly marking this with a ‘no’... It’s a YES for canon Undyne. In all routes, original game’s Undyne is the first character who is purposefully trying to kill the Player. Players can’t get the best ending without helping her hook up with Alphys and not incurring her wrath by killing any monster. In the worst ending, she’s one of the two antagonists that put up enough of a fight to make any player abort the Genocide Route. ]]
Are they widely known in their world? YES / NO [[ My muse WANTS to be significant to her world. In the original game, Undyne’s only mentioned by others in Snowdin and Waterfall (not counting Alphys in Hotland). She’s described as a “local hero” by Gerson. I get a sense she’s not exactly famous to the people in the entire Underground compared to, say, Mettaton. ]]
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL [[ Oof. Pretty sure my teen fish annoys the residence of Waterfall for being a loud-mouthed little scamp. The only reason she’s not considered ‘bad’ is because it’s pent-up energy and misguidedness, not flat-out cruelty. In canon, it seems like the people who talk about Undyne do it in either a positive or neutral light. You have Monster Kid, Papyrus, and Onionsan singing her praises. The Royal Guard members respect her. Asgore thought of her well enough to have her lead his military. Uhh, for a neutral instance, I remember an NPC in Snowdin saying she’s “loud, rude, and beats up anybody who gets in her way” (I don’t remember the exact quote). To weigh this more on the side of my muse, I’ll mark this answer as ‘neutral.’ ]]
HOW STRICTLY DO YOU FOLLOW CANON?  [[ Since I have an aged-down character, canon is literally my END GOAL! I gave her a “starting point” on her journey to the determined, dedicated, and excitable warrior fish we all know and love from the game. I filled in the gaps from there, using parts of her past mentioned in the game to glue the headcanons together. Deciding what she was like when she was younger – What’s her family background? What aspects about her changed as she matures? What internal and external conflicts would she deal with as a teen? – THAT’S the non-canon part. My Deltarune AUs are… different. Canon is my end goal too, but the timelines are all wonky to fit the needs of wanting to interact with the Fun Gang. LOL ]]
SELL YOUR MUSE! AKA TRY TO LIST EVERYTHING, WHICH MAKES YOUR MUSE INTERESTING IN YOUR OPINION TO MAKE THEM SPICY FOR YOUR MUTUALS.   [[ This kid is spunky, loyal, compassionate of the plight of her people, and will see through anything she sets her mind to, despite life’s barriers. She’s got a lot of pent-up energy and is searching for what she can do with it to help her achieve her goal of setting Monsterkind free! ]]
NOW THE OPPOSITE, LIST EVERYTHING WHY YOUR MUSE COULD NOT BE SO INTERESTING (EVEN IF YOU MAY NOT AGREE, WHAT DOES THE FANDOM PERHAPS THINK?).  [[ The teen fishy has a streak of selfishness and short-sightedness. Being honest, Undyne would be a racial supremacist if she existed in real life. Big yikes. Also, she’s willingly being trained as a child soldier. Another big yikes right there. ]]
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?   [[ Ages ago, I RPed the adult version of Undyne, which resulted in a bunch of headcanons for her past. I had no desire to RP any of them after it ended. A year later, I commissioned an artist for a Gerson vs. teen Undyne piece. That single-handedly made me want to get back into RPing again. ]]
WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?   [[ My fellow RPers wanting to interact with this silly fishy! When I first started, I expected my interest to peter out over the months. I didn’t expect many RPers wanting to interact with an aged-down character. But here I am, wanting to expand my headcanons further and making AUs so I’m not limited to canon. ^^ It’s all thanks to you guys!! ]]
SOME MORE PERSONAL QUESTIONS FOR THE MUN.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO?
Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / SORT OF?     [[ I should do it more often TBH. But I find showing them via story-telling more fulfilling than just explicitly explaining them in posts. Plus, it gives me more leeway if I’m still playing around with an idea. ;) ]]
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO  [[ I’m not counting the three pending drabbles until I finish them. ^^;; ]]
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day? YES / NO [[ She finds a way to bother me! Usually in the form of sudden inspiration for how to respond to RPs. ]]
Are you confident in your portrayal? YES / NO / SORT OF? [[ Sometimes I wonder if I forgot some aspect about Undyne that’s in canon, or unintentionally exaggerating other less-important aspects of her other characteristics… ]]
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO / SORT OF? [[ Generally, yes. But I do have my days when I suffer from low self-confidence. ]]
Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO. / SORT OF? [[ It depends on what’s meant by that. I’m sensitive to other people’s feelings, so I don’t intend to sound rude OOC, even if I’m expressing something negative about something I think the other did. If this is referring to being sensitive about events in RPs… my sensitivity is equivalent to that of being invested in any work of fiction. I know it’s not reality. I can pull away from the fictional world and it won’t bring down my real life. ]]
DO YOU ACCEPT CRITICISM WELL ABOUT YOUR PORTRAYAL?   [[ If it’s given in good faith and is constructive, sure. ]]
DO YOU LIKE QUESTIONS, WHICH HELP YOU EXPLORE YOUR CHARACTER?   [[ Hell yeah, give them to me! ]]
IF SOMEONE DISAGREES TO A HEADCANON OF YOURS, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?  [[ It depends if they want to tell me. I don’t mind either way. Personally, I like hearing other people’s interpretations! ]]
IF SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOUR PORTRAYAL, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE IT?   [[ *shrug* It doesn’t matter as long as they don’t harass me. ]]
IF SOMEONE REALLY HATES YOUR CHARACTER, HOW DO YOU TAKE IT?   [[ I’d just ignore it. They don’t need to interact or follow me. If my muse really is a bother to them, they can block my account. ]]
ARE YOU OKAY WITH PEOPLE POINTING OUT YOUR GRAMMATICAL ERRORS?   [[ I hope my grammar’s good enough, or else my English degree studies went to waste! But yeah, sure. Fun fact: explaining grammar rules so people can avoid major errors in the future is more helpful than nit-picking insignificant errors without explanations. ]]
DO YOU THINK YOU ARE EASY GOING AS A MUN?   [[ As long as fellow RPers aren’t being rude OOC, don’t break any serious rules, or do something that I mention are personal triggers to me, I am easy-going! RPing is fun and it should stay that way for everybody involved! ]]

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Mun & Muse - Meme.
fill out & repost ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm.
Tumblr media
My muse is:   canon / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless /
Is your character popular in the fandom?  YES / NO.
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK.
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK.
Are they underrated?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant for the main character?  YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG.
Are they widely known in their world?  YES / NO.
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL.
How strictly do you follow canon?  — Since she is an OC with her own lore I would say pretty much . Of course there are some heres and theres and she changed a lot from the first time I dragged her out of the void of my head . I originally wanted to make more of a gag character but ended up taking too much of the screen if I’m honest . but of course , since there is many other lores and crossovers are a must , some things change once or twice .
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  Nora is a mentor character , supportive and most likely to be the ace under the sleeve like a Kisuke Urahara from Bleach or Sinbad from Magi --- you know there’s something fishy but there is a charm that even thought they are slidding in the background for the main character , their relevance is vast . As a mentor characters , she would often help with insight , understanding of complex things , giving moral lessons and giving others a sense of security whilst also making sure to throw hints about a doubious nature . Keeping a character around her to keep their feet on ground while never shooting down their hopes and dreams .
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  She is not approachable unless you have enough guts to -- perhaps even looks intimidating or hard to come up with something plausible to make the meeting more natural . And honestly , she looks like a mainstream angst character at first glance --- even I myself believe this and start having second thoughts ... :laughs:
What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  An old project I had archived in my closet of memories (?). She was the main , nameless character of a journal about , well , her and the emotions she had to deal with in the everyday . I will be seriously honest ... it was a self insert :blushes: after all it was like a personal journal I was doing on my darkest days . But after that , she became Sable -- the first character on her own -- who also served as a mentor ( but the story was much more dark , seriously ) and then just came to this . I even used the pre-prototype name lol . The idea was to put the whole story into a RPG pixel game or a short comic series where she ( Sable ) and the protagonist would wander around a city called “Nobody’s Home” , a place were people with “thats” ( what now are called Stalkers ) got dragged into and either confront their emotions and solve / comes in terms with them or get eaten by them ( a metaphor for suicide or dead by mental illness ) . The story was more or less about Sable teaching Nona ( the genderless protagonist ) about different mental states , issues and others and helping people solve them so they can return to the real world . Needless to say , the story ends with Nona returning after coming in terms with their condition ( funnily enough , the protagonist had a bunny shaped emotion ) while on the other hand Sable stayed behind along with her closest friend , who she question why he keeps being around if he could return himself , to what he replies he doesn’t want to leave her alone esp since she can no longer return --- hinting Sable committed suicide but by sheer will power remained there to help others to deal with what she couldn’t . Voez , the friend I mention , is even Victor from her current lore . Haha , I like recycling I guess . When I came with Nora , it was mostly to kill time and altered her base story a bit since the original plot was way to close up to make an interaction .
What keeps your inspiration going?  —  How well received she became , I know it sounds a bit ... uh , bad . But I honestly never expected people to like her . heck I even have my doubts about myself liking her haha . plus I know it’s not easy to deal with a character with a somewhat meta power ... I still struggle from time to time but I’m managing and having the support I have atm is something that keeps me going . I love plot a shit lot . I love to come up with ideas with others . To expand what I already have . besides , there is so much I haven’t write down yet that is about her lore but I’m a bit insecure yet . I guess I’m too used to forums where everyon follows a general plot haha ... old habits die hard .
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / 50-50
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO, I HATE DRABBLES.
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day?  YES/ NO.
Are you confident in your portrayal?   YES / NO / .... UHHHH
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / HAHA NO.
Are you a sensitive person?  YES VERY MUCH A LOT / NO.
Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  I haven’t got any so far --- which honestly surprises me because well ... there is so much that can bother people . as I said , I received a lot of support and praise , which also surprises me haha ... I won’t deny I would love to hear what people think , even if I later end up riding the anxiety train to the moon but it’s also a way to grow up , I believe . god ... I sound like nora Uu
Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  I absolute love this and need this . It comes easier for me to make a 20 word pages of information about stuff if I’m asking specifically about it . even add explanatory drawings with it lolol since I’m kinda bad with words . besides , showing me interest on a character would just fire the heck out of me to keep going . I mean , everyone likes to get some curiosity and a chance to develop more their characters , canon or not .
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  I would for sure . I’m not smart and I actually do a shit ton of research --- but even so I can miss a lot of shit people would say <nah that’s not how it works> and that would be helpful as heckie . but of course , needing the why also would tell me if the person disagreeing is doing it with a solid ground or just because they are being a piece of crap . I’m really tired of tumblr mentality and shitty people who aren’t mature enough to act decently .
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  you cannot like everyone or have everyone like you either . I don’t really care much ... esp since nora is an original character . if it constructive critisism , okay -- I will take it , but gimme a solid reason other than “ your character is / is not ... “ and then give a crappy critique because she doesn’t fit your agenda or standards .
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  you are fucking free to unfollow me and ignore me for the rest of your life . I really don’t get the point of hating on the internet just because and keep promoting your hate just to be a pain in the ass .
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  I fucking wrote in my rules that people are even fricking free to fix my grammar and english because holy heck , even to this day I still do some ugly shit . I’m dumb , help ...
Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  ehhhhhhhhhhhhh, kinda . I take everything with water . whenever it’s of ideology , people as it is , characters ... I am quite tolerant and try to keep the “okay this person thinks this way , fine .” but as long as nobody crosses the line where they try to spoil it for me or others , I get super bitter . I love OOC , getting to know the one behind the character makes me feel more secure about coming to them and just rambling about plots and hcs and whatever idea got in my mind . but if I see someone and , forgive me god for misjudging , see them as a person that will put me on my nerves -- I won’t even try . as for the friends I have and those who don’t know me as much ... I am obnoxiously sporadic and have a lot of ups and downs very often . one day I could be talking 100 words per second others I will just take a fucking week to respond . honestly , I had mined my social skills for two years plus several other irl stuff previous to that , so I’m always a bit too anxious around people , esp people I REALLY like . I’m insecure as heck , if someone is vague ( just because , idk , it was a lazy day for them ) I think at least 10 different reason why probably that person hates me now . I’m a bit dumb 26 year old baby .......... but I’m very aware that is completely on me . I’m a mess.......  so , what was the question again ??? ... I , yeah ... it’s a kinda . but I try , at least haha.
That’s about it, congrats for filling out!

Lair Review (PastPrologue, #34767)
You have a lair full of personality, and I love that. Varied types of dragons, all seemingly from different backgrounds, with different aesthetics and different stories. I know a lot of people aim for a “cohesive” lair, but I’ve always found myself drawn to lairs that have incredible amounts of diversity, especially in lore lairs. It makes everything seem like it has the potential to be so much more lively, thinking of all the different characters and how their differences would color their interactions, and I gotta say, I can’t wait to see what you’ll have going for you in your lair once you get done ironing out the fine details.
A troop of storytellers living in the middle of some ice caves seems like a lot of fun to work with.
Tumblr media
I have a weakness for the intellectual type, and Rooibos definitely fits that bill. He’s such a dapper looking gentleman, with the crisp and scholarly sort of apparel that brings out his personality in spades. Even more so impressive is that you made pants work on a dragon which, at least in my opinion, is typically a cardinal sin. In fact, his outfit in general is an amalgamation of things that typically don’t work in outfits, layered together in such a manner that it offsets some of the odd “quirks” of the items in question. In particular, I think the use of the aviator bag as a belt to avoid the weird, unclean edges of the shabby waistcoat, and the bowman’s leggings are better spats than the actual spats on site!
That’s not even getting into his colors and genes. Rooibos has a comforting autumn flair to him and simplistic genes that keep him from being too, ah, “dazzle” for his own good. I’m especially fond of the way his rust shimmer does a miraculous job of tying together his primary and tertiary, acting as a gradient of the two, and the way his tiger primary softens the normally pronounced brow of the coatl artwork. He looks friendlier, happier, and far more cuddly than your typical feathered serpent.
Headcanon: The maladjusted son of a family of blacksmiths, Rooibos left his previous clan on good terms when he came of age and realized that hammer and anvil wasn’t exactly his cup of tea (see what I did there?). Far more interested in books and letters than ash and metal, he made the decision to move to the Southern Icefield for practical reasons. They’re good about archiving, share his penchant for organization, and the cold is remarkably good for preserving older, more brittle texts. He misses the warmth of home, though, so he keeps a cozy little cabin outside the clan lair, which he rarely leaves because it’s too dang cold out there.
Tumblr media
Hero is a perfect blend of Nature and Arcane aesthetics, and I can absolutely dig that. Everything about her screams elegance and potential danger, and I absolutely love the way you used her accent to tie together her Arcane eyes with the more natural, forest flow she has going for her. Her minimal apparel is actually a very wise choice on your part, as it keeps her beautiful coloration and genes from getting too cluttered, and the colors chosen for what little she wears are spot-on for helping the blue on her throat meld with the greens and violets she has going on.
And let me just say, that accent with her contour is absolutely genius. I had no idea she had contour at a glance, because the soil coloration blends right into her accent, making it seem as though it has spread beyond the original art. Just all around cleverly dressed and gorgeous dragon. A++.
Headcanon: The definition of a femme fatale, Hero is a Nature convert who came into her current clan after a rather painful battle during a dominance war. Having had limbs severed and bones broken, she’s used her inherent Arcane magic and what she’s learned in the Gladekeeper’s service to “rebuild” herself, in a manner of speaking. While not ill-meaning, she has a horrible temper and doesn’t suffer fools lightly. Her relocation to the Southern Icefield is mostly to save face; “unexalting” yourself from a goddess’ service is probably not the most honorable thing to do.
Tumblr media
Spooky dragons are my bread and butter, and Glendower is hardcore my favorite of your lair in its entirety. His icy, undead eyes are a beautiful focal point to the skeletal markings given to him by his ghost gene which, if I may say, is the perfect match for his black primary. So many people aim for stark whites with ghost but antique does far more to match his paler belly and the splotches from his python. That, and I love the vibrance of his wings, which is not something I see very much with more ghastly dragons. It breaks up the monotony and catches the eye, not to mention gives him a delightful Halloween vibe.
And that’s to say nothing of his outfit. While I usually shake my head at using straight sets of apparel, and while the Conjurer’s Cloak (or any cloak) can make a dragon look cluttered, the whole ensemble just works on Glendower. The webs, the cloak, and the staff all seem integral to him and add to his personality, and when paired with the antlers and raider’s armwraps, make him look almost like some kind of shaman of the frozen mountains. Which brings me, to…
Headcanon: Glendower lives seperately from the clan in a cave in the Cloudscape Crags, and the clan lives in reverence of him. He can sense the spirits of those who are gone and draws answers from them for those who need them, and makes a meager living off of offerings and gold given to him in exchange for seances and advice. He’s quiet and contemplative and detached from those he helps, and seems to have more in common with the dead than the living who honor him.
Tumblr media
Last, but not least, is my choice: Etude! He doesn’t seem finished (he still needs the wig) and he’s bogged down in all manner of apparel, but you know what? It works for him. The business of everything--his skincent, his apparel, his speckles and dots--just gives him a personality that immediately caught my eye. All of the colors match so well, and he’s somehow both a chaotic and calming dragon to look at. The whites and his beige and the blues and the creams are all just so mellow, but at the same time he just gives off the aura of a dragon that just needs to go, go, go!
The finished product you’re planning for him is wonderful, too, though it seems you’re almost there, sans his wig and his skin. Normally, I consider it an absolute shame to use a skin overtop a good dragon, but it certainly seems to be the thing that would tie the whole ensemble together to be absolute perfection.
Headcanon: Etude is a globe-trotting jack of all trades who probably has a contingency plan in place for every possible scenario, even the return of The Shade. If it can be done, he’s done it. If it can be visited, he’s been there. He’s upbeat and doesn’t realize that he’s constantly one-upping people and being more than a mite irritating, or that inserting himself into conversations because he overheard something familiar is rude.

Devlog #2 - 22/10/2018: What about an isometric perspective?
Hey, what’s up?
Today we’re gonna talk about the first steps of our game. As you’ve already seen in our first Devlog, we intend to share an alpha-demo with you guys until mid-November and that’s around one month from now. But this idea was born somewhere between July-August and we’ve been talking a lot about Edom since then.
THE FIRST IDEAS
We gave birth to Edom way before we would stop to think about names. Back in the day, it was only four of us: Jão, Carol, Paulo and me (again, I talked about the team in the last Devlog). Actually, everything started with a wish Carol had. She didn’t exactly think of whole a game, but a specific character: Ariel (if you’ve been following us on Twitter and Facebook, you probably have already seen something about her). She not only imagined the character physically but also had some ideas concerning Ariel’s personality and background. It was only a matter of time before me, Dave, becoming the guy who would create a more sophisticated lore concerning the character.
In our first meetings, we talked a lot about what we had imagined for the game, if Ariel would be the only char available and what really was our purpose with Edom. After a few minutes exploring the initial ideas, we got to a common-sense: it should be a horror game. But we still wanted to create something different from what we’ve been seeing out there.
youtube
Srsly, listen to this awesomeness
Firstly because we still have some limitations (and this is our first serious project, therefore we have no experience with this whole thing). We wouldn’t be able to create a 3D Game in this very moment since none of us is exactly a master at 3D-modelling and stuff like that. Secondly, we really wanted to challenge ourselves with a project that could explore our abilities. More than that, we wanted to create a thrilling atmosphere in a pixel-art style, what we initially imagined it wouldn’t be possible (however, we are very optimistic about it right now).
We also wanted to make things different. We have lots of AAA on the market who are filled with jump scares and all these clichés (not saying these are bad games, pls). As a writer, I’m really fond of trying to create an ambiance through a good narrative and other artistical elements. We wish to see players creating bonds with the characters and, once this link has been established, we want (well, I do want) to crush your sanity and your feelings through an immersive plot and environment (seriously, our artists - me included -  are working hard to make you cry and ask for your mama or your psychiatrist). And I’m really confident that it’s gonna work.
Tumblr media
Thanks a lot @the_games_guild
WHY ISOMETRIC? WHY?
We’ll get there soon, I promise.
So, we also had to make sure which elements should be applied to the game. I personally wanted something filled with puzzles and enigmas that would sometimes rely on lots of exploration, just like some Survival Horror’s out there. Besides that, one of the feelings that we think it would be nice to explore it is the idea of loneliness and helplessness. To accomplish that, we imagined a huge mansion as the setting, implying that you’re confined, but at the same time, you can get easily lost if you’re not paying attention enough. We also wanted to make this game to be one of those where the players aren’t supported by any kind of power, so… Yah, no guns or baseball bats for you to kill your enemies. You can only run to the hills.
Somehow, at some point of our meetings, we considered that this game could be a weird Metroidvania-like, but we eventually noticed that this wouldn’t be suitable at all. However, the perspective of creating a 2D game, similar to some old point-and-clicks (which I really loved, I’m totally into adventure games) wouldn’t fit as well. And then, someone (I don’t remember who, but I’m sure it wasn’t me) suggested: what about an isometric perspective?
And we were like “woooooooooow”! And one second alter we were like: “but how the duck are we gonna do it? We know nothing about it and we already have this huge idea that probably won’t be finished and…”
And then someone (probably me) was like “IH, RESPEITA O JOGO, RESPEITA O TIME” (that is something like “c’mon, you should respect our game and our idea, and also trust our own abilities, we can do it” but it sounds WAAAY better in Portuguese).
Anyway, isometric just seemed the right thing to do. Then we had our first animations and scenarios created by Carol in a beautiful pixel-art piece of art. Jão was also doubting his skills, but he is the type of person who can do anything (seriously, we call him “the yes-boy”, cause he always says “yes, I will [manage] to do it” to everything). And, well, I’m glad to say it’s working.
Tumblr media
This is only a test.
We had a few problems during the first weeks. Since none of us had any experience working with isometric perspective, we had to ask for help from other people from GDP (if you don’t know about it, you should read the first Devlog). It was at this moment that our team got our first new members. Nayara and Tomás were fundamental to help Carol with this new perspective, giving her some tips and making a better job of it. Nayara, currently one of our artists, has also been doing some great job. Tomás would be our Game Designer (yeah, we didn’t exactly have one before everything started), but he decided to focus on other projects - that’s when Victor shows up and saves the day.
Despite the decision, we still thought of the game following up with the previous idea of a Metroidvania, not as a whole but at least some elements and the level design. Part of it would be useful to increase the idea of loneliness mentioned above. We got ourselves guided by Mark Brown Boss Keys’ video talking about The World Design of Super Metroid and we agreed that we wanted to apply the same concept in our game, so the player would feel motivated to explore each corner in each room. And this obviously took us to talk about Level Design.
We also don’t have any experience with LD and puzzles or things like that. Since the beginning, we’ve been studying and researching about it in order to provide good riddles to the players, in a way they may feel rewarded when solving it. If you already played Super Metroid or watched Brown’s video, you certainly noticed this genre presents you with a huge map, but some parts of it can only be accessed once you got a special ability (for example, you can only access a certain passage if you acquire a double/longer jump ability in another point of the game). We really wanted to include this idea of progression in Edom, but how would we do it if our main character is a simple girl?
STOP WITH THIS “CLIFFHANGER” BULLSHIT BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS AND ANSWER THE DAMN QUESTION. HOW’D YOU DO IT?
We would create a few more characters. Initially, we imagined only three, but our musician, Paulo, thought of a very specific character and we decided to include his idea. Each character has a “special ability” (nothing really special, but they are good with certain things that the others aren’t, simple as that) and you can only access certain areas if you discover these other “guests” around the house.
That was a good choice since it would help us in three important aspects: a) the Metroidvania progression X reward system, which is awesome and contributes to exploring; b) would make possible for us to think of many creative puzzles, since you can explore the mansion with different characters; c) instead of one character for you to love with all your heart, you have four of them (and consequently your suffering will be four times bigger). We are also testing the portrait system, in which the player may access a portrait of another character and change it whenever he is in an appropriate place to do it (for example, you’re controlling Ariel and you find a portrait of Clarice, then you interact with it and change characters). This system will be implemented, but there’s still a lot to discuss.
Tumblr media
You can’t see the changing system, but notice the portrait on the wall.
Things seem to be okay for now. We haven’t faced many problems after that and the pixel-art is flowing. Jão, the programmer, has found some problems with layers in Unity, but after three weeks of intense research (and a lot of coding), he managed to solve it. In the meantime, we worked to add every command that would be important to the game: walk (in 8 directions), run, pull/push, interaction and using special abilities.
I guess this is it for now. We hope to publish here once more this week, focusing a little bit more on the music and writing. Stay tuned. And follow us on our social media (FB and Twitter), since we’re updating them regularly.
XOXO

Ok I didn't understand anything of this Flight Rising business other than that it's about dragons so would you like to talk about your dragon au Kazutake and Wario? Maybe with 5, 39 and 45 and/or something else if you want to get something out :D
Bless your heart, truly! ;;3;;
Flight Rising is a dragon petsite (kind of like what Neopetsis except with dragons) that has a lot of really cool lore and worldbuilding,so it essentially became an outlet for another AU for me. //bricked Most of my lairconsists of Boueibu dragons and their children (because I have no chill), butthere are some OCs as well and they’re all extremely special to me~
I have a lot of posts in my FlightRising tag, which is pretty much all worldbuilding and character notes forthis AU, but if you want the gist of it you can read thefirst post I made about it (with a lot of helpful links introducing theconcept) and thisother post that kinda explains some more about it (with more helpfullinks).
In this AU, Chikuis a type of dragon called a Fae and Wariois a Mirrordragon. They are a mated pair and they’ve successfully had a nest of 4beautiful children whom they love very dearly~ Because that was part of my plangoing into this, Chiku is a female Fae and Wario is a male Mirror. (I chose thebreeds, but I let the genders and elements of the dragons for this AU bedictated by chance based on what was available in the Auction House at the timeand that’s how it turned out.) You can read more about them in their linkedbios if you’re curious. There isn’t much there at the moment, but it gives youa basic idea of their roles in the AU and how their relationship works. ^^
Also, I swear I didn’t forget about this. I was having sometrouble flexing my brain for Wario at one point, but @purplerose128 helped me figure it out.
Pleasesend me more questions about my dragons~
5. List 3 fears; one“surface level” fear, one “repressed” fear, and one “deep dark” fear.
Chiku has many fears, but one surface level fear is probablybeing around much larger dragons. Faes are very tiny (one of the smallestbreeds) and she’s kind of easy for other dragons to intentionally overlook tobegin with… so it wouldn’t be too hard for a larger breed to accidentally sit/stepon her because they “didn’t see her” or something like that. Also, onthat note, Imperials terrify her because of their sheer size (considering theyare the largest breed, essentially giants compared to every other breed) and ifone sneezes or coughs in her direction she could get launched across theregion. (Also, I’m sure she’s lowkey-highkey scared of one accidentallyinhaling her.)
One of Chiku’s repressed fears, which became a deep darkfear for a while, was realized when she and Wario were planning to make a nesttogether. She had been terrified that she would never be able to find or have afamily that would accept and appreciate her. Her own birth family treated heras something flawed and abnormal, so who would even want her?
At first, she was thrilled and overwhelmed with joy whenWario expressed interest in starting a family with her because it was all sheever wanted. But then it started sinking in more and she began to fear that shemight not live up to Wario’s expectations of her as a mother. What if sheproduced an odd number of eggs and he got upset? What if there was somethingwrong with the children and he blamed her because she wasn’t as perfect as hethought she was? She had never been able to live up to anyone’s positiveexpectations of her before. All she ever did was disappoint and Wario believedin her so much that she was terrifiedof the risk of letting him down. But most of all, she was worried that thiswouldn’t be the happy family she wanted for herself, for her children… forall of them.
Of course, the fear subsided when she laid four eggs andeventually all of them hatched and Wario was happy even though there wasn’t aneven split of Faes and Mirrors, proving that Wario loved them anyway becausethe fact that this was their familymade it perfect. All fears reassured.
Wario, on the other hand, is afraid of curses and cursedobjects… which there just so happens to be plenty of in Sornieth. The clanhoard alone has a surprising amount of ominous trinkets lying around, some ofwhich no one is quite sure of the origin of. The energy emitting from themdoesn’t mix well with his own and he is put off by the knowledge that suchthings exist in a concentrated location. Every time someone drags one of thosestrange objects in from a day of gathering, he eyes them warily from a safedistance because it makes his skin crawl in all kinds of unpleasant ways.
Unfortunately, Wario has a similar background of not fittingin with his birth clan or his own breed. He already didn’t fit in with otherMirrors because of his quirks/habits making him practically impossible to workwith and his birth clan didn’t trust him for similar reasons. So, after acertain point, he just decided he was better off alone. He left them first before they could leave himand told himself it was his own decision, repressing a fear that he will be abandonedby any clan he tries to call his own in the process, even though he couldalready tell they didn’t want anything to do with him. Now that he has found aclan and a family that actually accepts him, this fear could creep up at any timebecause it’s there below the surface waiting to bubble up at the slightestdoubt that formulates in his brain.
But Wario’s deep dark fear that he hasn’t quite fully acknowledgedto himself yet is losing Chiku and being unable to see any beauty or balance inthe world again. Chiku hasn’t been a cure-all for his habits, but she has madethem easier to live with by being a positive influence on him. She calms hismind in a way just by being by his side. But in the back of his mind, he fearsthat maybe it really isn’t possiblefor him to feel this way forever – because how can he fight off the only thinghe’s ever known when it’s still very much a big part of his life? – and one dayhe might let his habits get in the way at the expense of his loved ones.
39. Have they everbeen accused of something they didn’t do?
Considering they are both oddballs of their breeds, it wouldhave been very easy to blame them for anything that went wrong, mostly due tocommunication issues.
In Chiku’s case, dragons of other breeds tend to ignore herand go out of their way to avoid interactions with her at all costs. Faes arehard for other breeds to understand to begin with because of their monotonespeech and all of their expression being conveyed with their crests, but Chiku beingeven more monotone and less expressive than the average Fae makes her almostimpossible to communicate with. Most dragons are unsettled by this and don’thave the time (or patience) to dedicate to figuring her out, so they just…don’t.
Other Faes tend to find her weird and unsettling because shedoesn’t communicate very well, so Chiku usually ends up feeling like she’sscreaming from inside a box and no one can hear her. No matter what she does, she just can’t get through to anyone and she kind of stopped trying after apoint, which just made things easier for others to say “oh, she’s not normal. she can’t even speak right. she must have messed upsomehow.”
As for Wario, he doesn’t get along with anyone. He doesn’tget along with other breeds, especially in mixed clans, because they’re all toodifferent in size, diet, and aesthetic sense (among other things). And thisunsettles him greatly because he can’t understand how creatures that seeminglydon’t mesh well would want to spendtime in the same proximity. But he doesn’t even get along with his own breed, which is very unusual for aMirror, since Mirrors prefer to live and hunt in packs together rather thanbeing alone… except Wario refuses to join a pack where the number is continuouslyshifting, and he doesn’t like constantly being on the move and having to buildtemporary lairs that break down too easily, and it’s impossible for him to bearound strongly aggressive personalities like his own without getting into afight… so he prefers to be alone than deal with the added frustration ofother dragons.
Mirrors that pick up on these quirks/behaviors of his tendto avoid him because they also would prefer not to deal with him on a regularbasis or at all. And other dragons find him unpleasant to be around: some areintimidated by his mere presence while others just outright don’t like hisattitude or think he’s too complicated to try reasoning with. And this makes Warioan excellent scapegoat for anything that goes wrong as well. Something weird orunfortunate happens to the clan hoard or one of the lairs? Just blame the angryguy over there. He probably got irritated and wrecked it to “prove hispoint” or something.
45. What is theemotion they most commonly experience?
For the most part, Chiku is overwhelmed with a forebodingsense of shame and hopelessness born from being “abnormal” and feelinglike she has no impact on the world around her. And Wario, being a naturallyaggressive and off-kilter individual, tends to be stuck in a loop offrustration and anger because seemingly everything agitates him. Once they getto know each other and become mates, they help each other work on these issues, but it’s still hard to beat. At least they make each other happy.

Hiya, so a friend of mine brought up one rp here and now I’m real salt so let me vent about this for a little while.
So we’re gonna ignore how he messed with the experience because tbh my problem wasn’t even his character. Yeah I didn’t like the character at all but once I learned “Hey just have my character avoid his” we stopped having conflict for the most part.
I’m instead going to rant about the host of this rp and how he did because god was it a disaster.
Note: The only reason I’m okay with naming the canon (besides the fact that my friend already did it) is because this rp is hosted offsite and is nearly impossible to find without knowing anything about the rp, if it’s even still up.
So let’s start with the people involved in the story, I’m going to name them for colors.
Red: Host of the rp and a very bad host at that. Character: Bella
Blue: My friend who submitted the story. Red’s best friend. Character: Braig
Green: My best friend, very much my main confidant in everything. Character: Shintaro
Yellow: Me! Basically just claiming my color even though I doubt I’ll mention myself by name at all. Character: Blake
Black: My twin sister, who’s background mostly. Character: Selene
Orange: Somebody relevant only to how badly this rp was hosted. Red’s best friend. Character: Kirito
Pink: Also only relevant to how badly this rp was hosted. Red’s Kohai. Characters: Sakura, Light
Okay so before we start with the rp itself, let’s just start with inaccuracies to the source material. (Ignoring the extra lore added to make it its own “unique” thing.)
So the changes to canon in this rp were just bad. So let’s start with why Blue got a questionable view of the canon, which makes everything make a lot more sense. The reason why his view was so messed up was because of how the team building exercise was done.
In the show RWBY, the team forming exercise is a literal team forming exercise. It featured people partnering up with the first person they ran into, and then forming a team by grabbing an item that matched another duos item. They then fight off the Grimm while going on this treasure hunt.
In the rp, it was a combative capture the flag where teams were encouraged to fight each other rather than cooperate to survive. It also destroyed the teambuilding aspect of the game because teams were already formed according to the random algorithms (read: host choice) that were used to pair people up, meaning the entire meaning behind the formation of teams and everything else was lost.
This in turn made the teams already a lot more cut throat, especially given some of the powers that Red gave his character and how it affected one of Pink’s, and created the violent environment that bothered Blue so much, that in the end created the conflicts between my character, and his.
He also butchered the White Fang completely (he made the White Fang leader a kitsune, not a fox, a kitsune with multiple tails), several RWBY character’s personalities (Ozpin in particular), and he added so much convoluted bullshit to the lore (as I mentioned with him making it his own “unique” thing) that it didn’t even feel like RWBY anymore, it felt like generic fantasy Hunger Games/treasure hunt, yeah it got that bad.
Oh yeah, and then there was Bella’s semblance, aura manipulation, which is not a thing. At all.
But now we can go to outside of canon critiques and go into the actual issues with the rp began.
So the issues all start off with the fact that the host could pick the teams. This problem started since the Red very obviously had ideas on what he wanted the teams to be. Almost immediately, he’d picked out the people he wanted on his teams based on his preferences within the players in the rp, at the time his preferred allies being myself, Green, and Pink. Now, Pink was pretty inactive and taking a while to sign up, and Green and I really wanted Black on our team, since we wanted to interact with Selene. Selene had had great interactions with Bella in a past rp (Bella’s only good ones, imo) and Black and I had wanted Selene and Blake to interact, and Green loved Selene before. Not to mention combat build would’ve been a lot better with Selene as well, since we would’ve had one whatever the hell okay fighting Bella did, one long ranged with Blake, a strategic mind in Shintaro, and a close range with Selene. This would’ve been a great team build with a lot of room for growth, and considering the majority of our group wanted it, we should’ve been able to get our way.
But then Pink entered Sakura and he was thrown into the group and that was it. Selene got cast off to a side group with Black’s other character, Green’s other character, and Red’s other character, and we’ll go off more into Selene stuff later. This decision actually almost made Black quit the rp because a) she hated any interaction with Bella/Sakura together because of how Red baited her with a ship for Selene and Bella in the previous rp, and b) she was annoyed at being cast off, but Green and I convinced her to stay.
Anywho, Red decided his teams, casting people like my now boyfriend and some other people (including my second character) into the irrelevant “nobody gives a fuck about you” teams for all the care he gave to them, put Blake, Shintaro, Sakura, and Bella into a team, and put Pink’s other character (Light) and Orange’s character (Kirito) into a team alone (impossible but done at the time because Blue wasn’t in the rp with his character yet and they couldn’t be excluded), and then shoves them into the exercise.
Now this makes it very clear with the capture the flag game the agenda for this rp. You can almost immediately tell who the favorites are when the two irrelevant teams are out first, followed by Light’s and Kirito’s team of two. I should also point out that these very clearly align with his favorite people in the rp, with both teams holding Red’s characters being the last two in the game. My team won and we got our reward which led to the incident that sparked all the shit between Blue and I, but he elaborated on that enough on his story so I won’t harp on that.
Anyways, the rp continues onwards, and it seems from this point on it’s literally just ripping off the plot of RWBY at this point. But with a few minor details, like the White Fang’s foil being Selene as opposed to an actual Faunus (like Blake). Most of the team dynamics are bad with the exceptions of a few here or there (my secondary team had a nice dynamic, as did Shintaro and Blake) but they were still very bad overall. The one thing that had me want Blake and Bella interacting (Bella being a Faunus racist) were removed because of the bad tensions between our team and Orange/Pink/Blue team, and Sakura in all honesty had zero interaction potential with anybody (Blake can only do so much with a cinnamon roll who never interacts with her, the ship between Bella and Sakura which was the whole reason for him being on the team is bad, and while Shintaro and Sakura could have a few cute interactions, they overall didn’t work.) Unless my boyfriend touched your interactions, you were blessed with shit and that was it, that was how badly Red picked the early teams.
But then finally, tensions were alleviated in favor of in jokes between Braig and Blake and my boyfriend’s character (and not so coincidentally, the three of us), and the Vytal Festival arc arrived. The favoritism again was painfully obvious as Red moderated the fights and made it very clear it was rigged in favor of the players he chose, and it wasn’t long until the irrelevant teams were eliminated in favor of my team and Black’s team.
And if you all know what happens in RWBY, you can guess what happened next.
Red decided for me, that Blake was going to take Pyrrha’s role in the show, and fight against another of his ocs, and thanks to the manipulation of the villains, kill him. I never got a say in this, she was just shoehorned into a role that I never got a say in. That would’ve fit Selene’s goals so much better. That also completely reset any luck I’d had at smoothing over things between Braig and Blake.
So we finally keep moving and I’m like “alright you know what, I can take this, I’ll give Blake her crux of an arc and have her die a tragic death, I can work with this” because I’m expecting her to get Pyrrha’s tragic sacrifice as well, but no, she doesn’t. Bella sacrifices herself for Sakura while passing on her powers to Sakura to make him bullshit powerful, and then somehow this rp’s version of Cinder dies, I don’t really know.
And then Selene runs into the White Fang leader who is somehow the only member of the White Fang left and partners up with her even though they were hated a little while ago. So there goes all those plot threads.
And remember those two ocs I mentioned, Snake and Kirito, yeah remember how they weren’t relevant to anything and only talked to each other? Well guess who got mystical chosen device.
And yeah, everybody else’s ocs still get fucked and split up too besides Team Treasure, because like I mentioned earlier, generic fantasy treasure hunt.
Anyways, Blake, Shintaro, and Sakura are now cut off from the rest of the group (forcibly, I might add, Red threatened anybody who might have chosen to stay with them with death if they didn’t split off) and get the same plot dump everybody else did. How the world needs seven treasures to stop all the Grimm (what happened to RWBY lore?) and blah blah blah when chosen one trope decides Sakura is the chosen one because of Bella giving her aura powers to Sakura, and he’s just so enamored over the fact that Bella sent this bitchy oc to guide him that he gets mad at Blake and Shintaro being cautious.
So bitchy oc introduces the generic fantasy Hunger Games elements I mentioned (also known as the Fate series) and Blake and Shintaro try to tell Sakura to be careful and that they don’t trust this new person, but that they’ll work with him anyways, he gets mad because “Bella sent her so she must be okay” even though Bella is dead and Shintaro (who randomly lost an eye without Green’s permission) and Blake (who just murdered somebody in cold blood and lost a friend) get upset and leave for their own mental health since it’s not like they had much time to know Sakura because he clung to Bella.
This action is highly frowned upon by a lot of the players, which sucks and starts getting to Green and I, but in spite of this we keep persevering even though we’re no longer having fun, hoping we can get to the point where they Blake and Shintaro can get to Team Treasure so we’re not putting undo pressure on the plot and getting them to the point where they’re away from Sakura and can recover from their own issues.
And then Red has the oc they’ve been traveling with try to get mad at Blake and Shintaro go right back to Sakura. Keep in mind this was a decision that Green and I both got a lot of flack for towards our characters ooc and hurt us because it was based in our own model of thought (that there comes a point where your mental health is more important than helping others) and this was not kept private either, and having Blake and Shintaro get yelled at was the final straw. Green quit, and I strongly considered it. So there was that aspect of railroading and character voicing for the player.
And then there’s continuing the favoritism, let me post the list of people who got the plot relevant roles.
Braig (Blue)
Villain (Red)
Selene (Black)
Kirito (Orange)
Sakura (Pink)
Random OC (Red)
Selene’s Teammate (Red)
Aside from Selene (who was likely picked out of guilt for the ship baiting from the earlier mentioned rp), they’re all people who were Red’s best friends or closer to him than Green and I were, the blatant favoritism in this couldn’t be anymore obvious. And Kirito was basically irrelevant, Braig wasn’t loved by a lot of people, and three of the people who have these characters belonged to Red. And that’s not even talking about the fact that Selene should’ve had somebody not White Fang related and Sakura was such an incompetent cinnamon roll that he shouldn’t have even been considered for this role. Literally Braig was the best character for this position of the ones chosen because at least he was relevant and his choice of partner character he got didn’t basically fuck with plot. It was so bad and so frustrating that when Red cancelled the rp tbh I was glad.
And while I’m at it regarding his plot, he decided that his trainwreck of a generic fantasy Hunger Games/treasure hunt/maybe RWBY fusion was such a good plot that it was the best plot we’d ever had in any rp…because you know, generic plots with bad main character choices are such a good story.
Tl;dr: Red outright ignored the canon of the world he was hosting for, rigged the rp to favor specific people who were his friends or who he felt the plot needed to do it instead of letting it be a fair match up or the choice who would’ve made more sense for the story, railroaded everybody to the spots he wanted them in instead of letting them go to somewhere that made more sense, forced people into things without permission, often times without purpose, and just in general fostered so much conflict with a bad plot that it was a travesty of an rp.

Genre : Supernatural thriller, suspense, action, drama
Movie: 46 minutes
Studio: Ufotable
Imagine that you had to share your consciousness with someone else. Another personality. A volatile and violent entity always on the edges of your consciousness. And now imagine that that someone else was your best friend. That they truly cared about you, maybe even loved you. What would you do if you woke up one day and they were suddenly gone? This is the situation Shiki finds herself in. After 2 years in a coma, she now wakes up in a world very different from the one she left behind. SHIKI is no longer there and in his place are nightmarish visions that plague Shiki’s every waking moment. For the very first time Shiki is the only one in her own mind and in complete control over her thoughts and life. And for the very first time, she is truly alone.
The fourth movie in the Garden of Sinners’ ongoing saga is called The Hollow Shrine. A disappointingly short title for my purposes but very pretty. And very fitting. I have a feeling this movie may have marked a turning point in the story, if so, the title seems particularly well suited, as I would say it’s a great way to describe the movies thus far.
good titles make me happy
I am currently watching ufotable’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba with Crow. It’s a fun series that really displays the studio’s flair for visuals and stunning animation. This is obviously a team that’s very skilled but also unafraid to try some things.
If you’ve been following along with my The Garden of Sinners reviews, you know that I started off flabbergasted by the production’s extensive and  diverse use of visual and atmospheric storytelling. For better or worse, as the movies have progressed, this has been traded in for higher if more traditional production values.
I can no longer see layers of symbolism in each image. Colors don’t jump at you cryptically trying to tell you something. I didn’t even really notice the sound design at all. There is some obvious and heavy handed hallucination imagery and long lingering shots but it lacks the subtlety and sheer breadth of previous titles.
so the blue is to show that something weird is happening…
However, the movie once again is noticeably prettier. Designs are crisp and slight details have been added. Most scenes look like they could be used for promotional material without any extra editing. Movement is faster and even more fluid. Any awkwardness in proportions in action has been smoothed out. You can see my header gif for an example of a standard scene.
The voice actors remain the same and their performances haven’t changed much but they seem to have gotten to know each other better and the chemistry is definitely improved. It may have helped that Touko is much more present this time and she is a welcomed foil to the other two much more stoic characters. It makes the interactions between then that much more interesting with a different personality in the mix.
Touko makes everything better
The Garden of Sinners 4 : The Hollow Shrine, is a difficult movie for me to review. As a standalone feature, I wouldn’t call it very good, because it’s not. A standalone that is. The story seems to pick up where the second movie ended. In 1996 Shiki spared Kokutou and turned her violence inwards instead. Ever faithful, Kokutou rushed her to the hospital where Shiki was barely saved and left in a coma. After visiting her regularly for two years, even seeking out a Magus’ (Touko) input to help and understand Shiki, Kokutou learns that she’s finally woken up. But this isn’t the girl he once knew, she’s somehow…empty. (or Hollow…you get it)
This time around, the story does even less than usual to establish its lore and characters, as such I’m not really sure how well someone that is not already familiar with the franchise could follow the story. Moreover, as The Hollow Shrine is mostly concerned with finally fleshing out Shiki’s character a bit, it’s possibly the slowest and most introspective movie yet. Even if you understand everything, without having formed a previous connection with the cast, I’m not sure you would care about what’s happening. Most of it is Shiki just lying around.
exciting!
So let us instead consider it as what it really is, a denouement of a larger ongoing plot. If you approach it from the point of view of someone who has seen the previous movies, then it becomes much more interesting.
Like I just said, The Garden of Sinners 4 : The Hollow Shrine is essentially a character building and origin story for Shiki. There are no elaborate serial murder mysteries to solve, no strange disappearances in the background. Instead the bulk of the action such as it is, is centered on Shiki’s little hospital room, and her sparse visitors. But that doesn’t mean we get to know her all that much better. I still couldn’t tell you what her favorite food is, what pet she had as a kid or what type of music she likes. I can’t even tell you *if* she likes music. I still know nothing about her family and the movie pretty much tells us the mystery of the prequel will remain unsolved.
I do not know Shiki at all, but I kind of *get* her now.
wait, hear me out
The Garden if Sinners movies always had this tendency for vague and introspective story telling. You don’t understand what’s going on as much as you feel it. And this one was no different. Small movements, quiet moments and terse snippets of conversations slowly pile up to reveal a picture of a lonely conflicted girl. Powerful yet aimless. Uncertain whether the weight of existence is worth it on an almost purely practical level. I don’t know Shiki but I recognize her. The picture is still far from complete, and that’s okay.
Once again the running themes of existential angst and the nature of personal identity are tackled, even more head on but with a measured hand and less drama than I’ve come to expect. Make no mistake though, The Garden of Sinners 4 The Hollow Shrine is still far from a comedy!
depends on your sense of humour, I guess
In a way, the movie really started in the closing tag. We see all the lonely special girls from previous movies, and a few new faces, seemingly being recruited by a second Magus named Souren Araya, but for what purpose, remains unknown. It’s an exciting set up that really makes me look forward to the next movie but it made The Hollow Shrine seem like a somewhat dour preamble rather than a story in its own right.
Long story short: The Garden of Sinners 4 The Hollow Shrine is a decent entry in the series and you should watch it (after the second movie) if you plan on watching the entire franchise. As n individual movie it lacks both a beginning and an end, and doesn’t have enough buildup to support its own story.
Random thoughts, using a lit cigarette as a magic wand is awesome. you even have hat glowing tip. And it looks surprisingly less ridiculous. People should use that more!
it was cooler in the movie
Favorite character: Touko
What this anime taught me: SHIKI was a he? Not that it matters much but it was an interesting touch. Also, the Japanese version of singing in the rain has a drastically different melody.
Everyone has a hidden talent even they don’t know about..until someone pours tequila
Suggested drink: a Magus (not ancient)
Every time anyone says Rougi – take a sip
Every time Shiki sees “things” – take a swig
Every time Touko is being rather unhelpful – raise your glass
Every time it’s raining – get some water
Every time Tuko smokes – take a deep breath
Every time Kokutou visits the hospital – take a sip
Every time someone mentions SHIKI – take a sip
Every time we see flowers – take a sip
Every time it’s sunny – finish your drink
I’m sorry Kokutou, I didn’t put any pics of you
As usual you can find a few more screencaps here if you are interested.
