Revenge of Others was literal insanity like I mean Park Wonseok gets murdered and the whole reason he gets murdered is because Gi Osung is absolute scum like the dots connecting are crazy!!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
The timeline of events in question:
Park Wonseok is gay and dating a classmate
Gi Osung takes pics of them and uses said pics to blackmail Wonseok
And by blackmail I mean Osung bullies and uses Wonseok to bully other people
Which then makes everyone hate Wonseok and think he’s a terrible person to the point they were glad he died
But plot twist Seok Jaebum found out about Gi Osung and Kook Jihyun
Turns out Gi Osung was in love with Jihyun ( whose his step sister by the way)
And Jaebum had a video of them kissing and used that to blackmail Osung into leaving Wonseok alone
So Osung got mad and pushed Jaebum off the top of a freaking building
At which point Jaebum ended up in a coma and woke up with memory loss
So Osung used that to his advantage and gaslit Jaebum into believing that Wonseok was the one who pushed him off the building so much so that get this
Jaebum’s split personality or spirit of his dead twin brother (not quite sure which) ended up killing Wonseok
And then tried to make it seem like Sooheon was the one that did it
And Gi Osung knew this and covered up for him just so nobody would find out that he was the one who pushed Jaebum off the building in the first place!!
And to top it all off Osung got mad and went after Sooheon and used his step sister who he was supposedly in love with to do it by kidnapping her and threatening her with a knife
At which point they got into a fight and Osung ended up falling off the top of their school roof
And then every single student in that place covered for Sooheon to protect him
And that’s not even getting into the fact that Sooheon was going around beating the ever living shit out rapists and murders on the side for money or getting shot at by his girl who thought he was the one that did it for a hot second
Like hot damn y’all that shit was WILD!!!

A Green Night on the Town.
Is this a modern au? No. Ruby and Christina end up meeting the neighbors as William and Hillary. But Ruby wants to go to the bar and live a little, 👀.
Ruby Baptiste X Christina Braithwhite
Inspired by comments and posts by @dreaduquesne and @taylor144. I did do some research for this, the one song is from the 1960s but we are gonna pretend it's not. If you are going to be negative just for negativity sake please don’t. Wanted to post this before tonight’s episode where this ship may go down in flames. One more ep left after tonight *insert sad emojis*
Songs in order of appearance in story: Put on my Shoes by Mary Anne Fisher, I don't know by Ruth Brown, One Man's Poison by Liz Lands, It's Your Voodoo Working by Charles Sheffield.

Ruby sat in the Bentley checking her image in the side mirror. The red lipstick she reapplied was new and came in a gold bullet with roses carved into it. It was the shade Ruby and she got it on one of her shopping adventures. As Hillary of course. The matte color clashed with Hillary's choice of clothing but perfectly matched her pink dress with red and blue flowers stitched onto it. She wasn't only checking her face but looking out for unfriendly neighbors.
In the weeks she's been with Christina in the house, the looks she's gotten are usually not friendly. Kids and parents alike staring her up and down like she is trash. In her most unholy form of self they smiled "Fake ass white folks ," she thinks. They were lucky most white people did not want trouble knowing William lived with her openly. As openly as they could be, the city of Chicago has always cared less about couples like them but the people sure do care enough. Ruby glances at the door that sits far behind iron gates.
After her day out, William introduced her to some of the neighbors on another street who had kids. Kids who looked innocent playing in the streets. A group of men talking on the street flagged the Pontiac down making Ruby tense but William's hand rested atop hers in the middle of the seat.  They spoke across her wondering where they could get themselves a car and a woman that. William chuckled and made small talk which Ruby side eyed her partner for.
That led to them both getting out of the car introducing themselves to these men and their wives as Hillary and William Davenport. An invitation for dinner came from one wife who kept commenting on the bump in Hillary's hair too nicely. Ruby heard a little bit of Christina's snark in Williams no and tampened that response with, "Sorry we have plans tonight." Which thankfully was accepted and before then they had no plans but now Ruby wanted to spend the night dancing to music, maybe singing just a little. As herself, after an exhausting day of keeping up with the Joneses or Smiths or whatever white slave master name they probably shared with a poorer distant cousin on the Southside. Damn she kinda missed the Southside. Christina had been before but not like this.
She sees a teenage boy dragging a trash can down the driveway next door but listens to the sound of feet making their way down the walkway. Slowly she puts the lipstick in her purse that will get left in the back seat because tonight she wants nothing to hold her back. Ruby watches Christina open and lock the gate with her back turned. Hair perfectly swooped to the side even in moonlight.
The tall blonde was in a green dress fitted at the waist that was far too fancy for whatever jazz joint they were bound to end up in. It looked new but Ruby swore Christina had too big of a closet, almost big enough for two people. William had a vest in a similar color, he wore a few days ago...well she wore Ruby guesses. Christina looks nice as she saunters towards the silver drivers side and Ruby bit the inside of her lip. There was something about the way the woman was so sure and confident in her walk, how she sat, or how she inserted the silver key into the ignition. Even when she was out dressing her for a simple night on the town. Those long hands just so handling the key before slipping...
Ruby swallows her jealous admiration and rolls her eyes, "Seriously?"
"What, is this too much ?" Christina asks, smoothing her fingertips over the leather of the steering wheel. She leans over Ruby likely too close and slips a vial of William's blood in the glove box. Giving Ruby an amused stare that makes Ruby roll her eyes even harder. Christina thinks of this as a game, one they both play. There are days she has already taken her potion and is dressed in slacks eating breakfast. Ruby will saunter into the kitchen dressed in a number that makes Christina wonder if keeping Ruby hostage would be so bad. Probably, if Leticia found out there would be a makeshift army outside her front door.
"Ha," Ruby laughs out loud and Christina smiles, "You fucking think, it's a jazz joint not the Ritz. Who in the Sam Hill are you trying to impress tonight?"
Christina lowers her eyes to Ruby's lips. She thinks of just exactly who she was continually trying to impress as covertly as possible. Ruby looks away and back realizing Christina is still staring at her like....that. She does it in William's skin too, those eyes sizing her up. Two piercing blue eyes always staring at her so deeply Ruby thinks she could burst into flames. No matter the face she does find it hard to look away.
"Don't look at me like that. I warned you about that, now drive." Ruby says crossing her arms in her lap listening to the engine come alive. Christina grins to herself but keeps her words to herself as she shifts the car into drive.
The night leads them to Vesey's where Ruby is plenty filled with free drinks. She already sang at the last spot with a band but her presence rouses the crowd that is already not slow at all tonight. The bar is more packed than normal and Ruby forgets to ask why. She did hear Sammy whisper across the bar to a man next to her something about a discreet open door to friends of Dorothy for once. As soon as her and her unlikely plus one arrived, Christina said she'd be fine on her own.
Ruby took that for truth but tried to read her half truth anyway. Christina held her own well but not like this...this would be a first. That was something Christina would say often "a first" with practically anything it made Ruby wonder if her secret-sometimes lover had any childhood or life at all before her sister came barreling into that mansion.
The whiskey is neat on her tongue as she tosses it back quickly before blearily grinning at Sammy. Tonight felt good and light and fun. No white eyes staring at her making her feel undone in front of them. Ruby in her skin surrounded by her kin and music that was sewn into her spirit. No matter how sad the lyrics could get the beat was full of life.
"And we have our resident songstress in the crowd tonight," someone on the small stage called out. Whistles came from the bar and the crowd mid dance at the stage. Andre, the young barkeep, winking at her taking her lipstick stained glass back behind the bar.
"I guess that's my cue Dre," Ruby raised her brows at him. He nods back, touching her hand sitting on the bar lightly. He sure was cute, she thought before slowly getting up from the stool. She makes her way past the packed house and in front of the band playing. Shouts and hollers come from the crowd as she holds out her hands.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the Ruby Baptiste." The man pushes the mic in her hand and whispers good luck to her. She isn't a stranger to singing while drunk or singing well while drunk. Not even with a big audience but there is a feeling of nerves in her fingers as she grips the mic and slips it back in the stand.
"Hello Southside," Ruby says into the mic. Whistles get louder and someone bangs on the bar. This crowd definitely had some new faces in it but they were smiling or leaning against someone else like lustful animals. "Alrighty i guess y'all are entitled to a few songs."
Someone yells from a booth, "Yea, where you been Ruby left us on the south side for the north side."
Ruby laughs into the mic, " Y'all think I would leave this behind never!" She looks at the guitarist, "maybe you." Folks gossiping was always a trend her name sour on so many people's mouths.
Everyone laughs in response and she laughs quietly to herself. She whispers to the band "Put on my shoes".
Ruby sways with the band as they start before leaning into the mic.
"Should I feel a little hot, you almost drive me insane, All your good intentions. Seem to wash right down the drain, put yourself in my place. You'll see what I mean and you'll know how I feel. And you'll feel, you'll feel a pain in your heart."
Ruby scans the crowd with her eyes, landing on random spots of the crowd that look more enthused then others. Her voice still gravels out...
"Baby I've been let down more times than I can remember how you cheated on poor lil me from January to December. Put yourself in my place. You'll see what I mean and you'll know how I feel."
Her hand cradles the mic as she throws her words into it. She knows that pain even if it is not her current romance. Her heart had been split open once or twice before. Maybe that's why she held her heart back in  this thing with William, Christina, or as Montrose called them Chrilliam.
"And you'll feel you'll feel a pain in your heart. I've always been faithful and I've always been true but there's gotta be the death gotta be a change in you."
Fuck him, she thought throwing her anguish in het voice before leaning back up to scan the crowd.
"Put on my shoes for a day.
Put on my shoes for a week.
Put on my shoes for a month or two, know what I've been through."
If only she could make a spell or potion, so that Christina could understand. Understand why she gets so angry and frustrated with the woman in and outside of her own blackness. She finally finds the blonde blending in surprisingly well. Christina has a drink in hand leaning against the wall, watching her. Blue eyes sweeping across the stage as Ruby moves about the space. Instead of looking away Ruby croons out....
"Go on and have fun after all is said and done."
Someone bemoans out yes sing Ruby sing. Ruby watches Christina stare at her not breaking the tension between the two of them. If this was an empty house it would be much more obvious that Ruby had been stuck. Stuck on the way Christina clutched the glass in her hand to her lips. The way her eyes didn't waver or move from Ruby eyeing her up and down.
"Put on my shoes you'll get the blues the blues the blues if you put on my shoes."
The song starts to end and Ruby finally looks away. Her heart is beating so loudly it could probably take over for Gordy the drummer if they need be. If only Christina could know authentically how it felt to be in skin like hers. Not some misplaced gesture that could have gotten her dumb ass killed...if only.
Christina half listens to the short woman sharing the table with her. She did not care at all what the woman was saying but she fully understood she had no power in this establishment. Magically yes, but physically she was the outsider here. If someone wanted to sit at the same table in this bar they could. This bar was thick with smoke, heat, and loud. Christina observed it all, everyone seemed at home in this small establishment. A home full of strangers that couldn't cross into Lincoln Park with that same joy and comfort. She didn't understand that feeling but she also never really had a "home" to connect to. A comfort as distant as her ability to empathize with these people.
A taller full figured woman stands next to the shorter darker one before sitting down eyeing Christina up and down. Which Christina doesn't change her one note expression for. The shorter woman is still yapping on about something and Christina flits her eyes between the two. At some point the taller one leans in and introduces herself as Celia. Christina leans in a bit to hear her and nods. Celia has a cool confidence she immediately picks up on instead of the jittery energy in between them.
"Isn't this wild Cil I've never seen a white woman walk in this place alone," the short one finally says in between winds of her story.
Celia smiles at Christina and says lowly, "Alone is right." Christina sees something in the taller woman's eye and grits her teeth a bit. She isn't alone, not really, with Ruby in the same building. But neither of them is kept and Ruby doesn't often kiss her without the pieces of William stuck to her skin.
"What's he coming over here all fancy like for, she's just white. Not royalty." a man in the booth next to the table huffs out loud enough for Christina to hear. One purpose most likely she knows.
Christina turns and sees the owner of the bar walking over to the table with a tray holding a wine glass filled with red. A few bystanders jump out of his way or side eye him. This didn't seem like the place where people went to for a glass of wine. Sammy was his name, she remembers that from her own bits of research on her extended family. She has also heard whispers that he was or is linked to her cousin's father, in that way. He stops in front of her and places the glass on the table.
"On the house Braithwhite." Sammy purses his lips a little at her and she crosses her eyes at him. "A request from..." the stage he mouths. She softens her look when he walks away and pulls the glass to her. Sipping it she almost laughs, it's an awful merlot that tastes like pennies. The copper taste sits on her tongue and her eyes go wide. Slipping her hand into the pockets on her dress she feels for the glass vial that should be there. After a moment of panic she feels the cold glass pulling it out a bit to ensure it's still full. It is. She sighs relief into the glass and sips it again.
The music from the band is still blaring as the crowd in front of the seating area sways and moves back and forth. No singing comes through the air and Christina leans her neck slightly to find Ruby on the stage or in the crowd. It takes a bit before a wheezy laugh proceeds and sees a man on stage with Ruby. He is swaying behind her as she holds the mic singing into the mic,
"Could a heart so right be led so wrong if his love is weak would it last this long. I don't know but I hope and pray that he comes my way oh oh."
Christina grips at her own thigh with the hand still sitting in her pocket.
The horn player toots out loudly and Ruby turns around lightly pushing away the tall built man behind her. It was all in good fun as the band kept playing and he sidled back up to her slipping his hands back to her waist teasingly. She hears the band transition into another song while she dances on stage. Left, right, left, right. She feels her hips sway away from the fingers resting above her dress. She recognizes this song and shakes her shoulders along to the music that's all around her. Looking back at the crowd she can see the stares that she is receiving from the men in the crowd. It is all temptation and fire from many directions but Ruby shrugs to herself. She did not come for a man, she had one of those already, which was obvious others heard about. Her core tightens thinking of that man, so adept with the way he took care of her. Where is he? She wonders looking back to the table she sent that bottom shelf wine to earlier. She sees Christina but Christina is holding a conversation with a glass half full. A conversation that Ruby blinks at, a woman, a very pretty light skinned girl is undressing Christina with her eyes. Ruby knows she can't hide the look on her face and bites her tongue. It earns her an, “Ooo gurl what's on your mind,” from the guitarist who she sees her face flare with jealousy. He’s following her gaze to the table and whistles loudly. He never thought Ruby went that way, but he didn’t know a lot about Ruby outside of rumors.
Braithwhite never looked out of place even in a place like this. She just fit in well without trying like a chameleon making herself comfortable in someone else's home. If Ruby did not know some of Christina’s truths this would concern her, but not so much now. At least even at her most sordid she was honest. The green of the dress did stand out but it felt see through to Ruby. She was pretty sure the woman on the other end could only wish for the type of knowledge she had. The alcohol and revitalized confidence in her gives her half the mind to throw her shoe from the stage. Maybe knocking Christina's eyes, that were probably not bulging as much as Ruby's liquored brain saw, back into her head. Ruby thinks better than that and sits the mic back in the stand and clears her throat into the mic.
Eyes including those blue ones find their way back to the stage. Ruby glares a bit in Christina's direction then directs her words back to the crowd. "Aight y'all this is my last song for tonight, it's something me and the boys have been cooking up."
Ruby hears the band whistle and mumble about someone having her in a mood tonight. The four count from the symbol goes off and Ruby clenches the mic letting her voice seep out,
"One man's poison is another man's meat, what's good for Johnny will kill poor Pete."
People in the cloud clap at the new sound. Folks lean up off the wall to move towards the dance area or to move with the crooning in their spot. Ruby smiles with her words as they continue.
"I'm good at loving so make no mistake I was his gravy but I'm your steak. Kiss me baby hold me tight everything's gonna be alright."
Ruby sways her hips back and forth a bit. Christina feels her eyes getting heavy dragging up and down Ruby's frame. She catches Ruby glancing her way and licks her lips quickly before the woman turns away from her.
"One man's evil is another man's pure, kiss me baby I want your sweet loving tonight."
Ruby extends her leg on stage twisting it with the music as she dances with the fill of the band. Moving back to the mic she slides her hands around the tall skinny pole.
Christina empties the contents of her glass not moving her vision from Ruby. She's leaning out of her chair slightly, but tries to pull herself together. If the times allowed her to, she'd have Ruby right there on the stage and she guesses if the crowd wasn’t soaking in the way Ruby reeled them in. Ruby was full of magic and had an effect on people that Christina was sensitive to. Even the first time she heard her sing.
Ruby grins as the band keeps playing and nods to them. Which they respond with air kisses. The crowd jeers as Ruby makes her way off the stage. A man's arm outstretched guides her off the stage even though she didn't need any help. Ruby can feel fire on her skin likely from Christina at the attention from a few gentlemen as Ruby passes them on her way to the bar for a glass of water. When she makes her way towards the seating area she teasingly saunters past the table she knows the blonde is sitting at. Ruby feels the eyes outlining her from behind and hears someone excuse themselves from a table behind her. She keeps walking to the bathroom she knew was at the end of the hall.
The sound of heels matching her stride as she opens and lets herself in the single person toilet.
Ruby swallows her moans while slowly tugging the long blonde hairs in between her fingers. Light tugs feeling soft rouged cheeks against her inner thighs. Lips kissing up against her thigh garters and stockings. Ruby exhales pulling Christina's head back up to hers.
"Is that what you wanted, sitting there pissed off because someone had your new toy."
Christina exhales feeling Ruby's nails scratch her scalp ever so. Her face is flushed, she can feel it, but she shakes out no lightly. "You aren't a toy," Christina pushes Ruby's hand away from her and leans over her. Less than inches away, "I guess I'm just a little jealous and it seems you are too."
Ruby scoffs but doesn't deny it, instead she drinks in the way Christina looks at her. With a vigor and a hunger that makes her thighs clench against the hand there. Fingers that sting in her memories from the car stroke up and down and Ruby does something she rarely does. She leans in and pulls Christina's lips to hers.
Christina revels in the slow tongue inching along hers. Ruby's hand on the back of her head, pulls her closer, and she slaps a hand against the tile wall surrounding the mirror. She likes this Ruby whoever this Ruby is. Unattached. Christina whimpers, feeling her head shoulders pushed downward. This Ruby who kisses her even without her being William. She also feels good in Ruby who is bound and only kisses William.
"You said you'd kiss whatever I wanted Braithwhite," Ruby gathers the blonde’s hair in her hands. Sinking her red fingernails into the blonde scalp, she opens her legs wider putting more weight on the metal sink. Ruby feels her breath hitch watching Christina sink to her knees while biting her lip at Ruby's words. Christina is undoing the snap of her garter while pushing Ruby's dress further up her thighs. It's almost around her waist, but this was not the place to just strip of it completely. Ruby leans her head back in relief feeling Christina inch the lacey cotton fabric around her hips down until they are off completely. She hopes Christina tucks them in her pocket at least.
Christina sighs pushing the lacey fabric into the same pocket holding William. She lightly bites into Ruby's thigh before moving to taste her fully. There is a low shudder and the grip on her hair tightens as she dips her head forward closing her eyes to fully immerse herself in Ruby. Ruby feels the hot coils in her stomach snapping and crackling. Her free hand moves from clenching her mouth to gripping the sink. She doesn't want to ruin Christina's dress but the heel of her shoe is pressing into the blondes back. A gasp like moan escapes her mouth as a shiver runs across her collar bone.
"Oh shit," the door next to them squeaks open and shut quickly, making both Ruby and  Christina open their eyes. Christina turns her head upward to stare at Ruby. She can't say she feels any shame in her current position, but Ruby might. Ruby can only see the blue eyes peeking at her with concern and heat from the bottom of her dress. But, she feels like wetness on Christina's chin on her warm thighs. Ruby leans over to the lock on the door and twists it shut before leaning her head back on the wall. She regrips Christina's hair, "Kiss what I want."
Ruby moans out loud while music and a jazzy tune slips under the door.
“Your love is voodoo and I just can’t last. It's your voodoo working, voodoo working, voodoo working and I can't get a lick…..”

hxh RESUME
back at it again w/the hxh, heres my recap of the last few eps
ok so i totally forgot to recap that one ep at the end of the hunter exam arc lets see what i remember from like 3 wks ago lollll
i thiiiiink i left off in the middle of ep 21 lol. i really dont remember much tbh so im gonna skim the ep to refresh
exposition time! its so wild that if you lose ur hunter card That It like u cant get another or retake the exam hgabjdfuhasjf Ls
also the fact that you can sell it is rlly interesting
leorio & kurapika backing up gon as he confronts illumi again :’) good lil family
illumi u fool. gon is a shounen protag. he can do anything he sets his mind to
the fact that gon thanks illumi for telling him where killua is....hes literally THAT polite like...what a perfect boy
hisoka just fuckgin stepping out of the shadows....ok bitch
the fact that gon fucked up illumis arm that bad with one hand....boi is STRONK
AUGH AUGH AUGHHHH HISOKA IS SO CREEPY AUGHHH I HATE THIS BIIIITCH
ok but like is illumi implying that hisoka is a fr p*do bc uhhhhh thats so nasty oh lord. pls stay away from gon, and killua, and like everyone as a matter of fact
EWWWWWWWWWW I HATE HISOKA HES SO NASTY. PLS STOP MAKING P*RNO FACES IN RELATION TO 12 YR OLD BOYS.
no but rlly what IS hisoka gonna do now. im assuming he’ll show up p soon (tho probs not in the zoldyc arc like i thought bc its shorter than i thought)
ok the fact that they have the internet is hilariously wild to me for some reason....it just seems like this would be one of those fantasy shounen worlds with very little tech (a la one piece) but lol nope we can just google shit hvbhjdhjdfks
gon: it was fun when you beat me up for 3 hours and broke my arm! seeya dude!
i love gon he is so chill and doesnt seem to hold grudges except when it really matters (like hisoka and illumi)
hanzo has.....ninja business cards....thats amazing hvbhsdjkujfnd
dont worry pokkle, leorio was basically carried thru the hunter exam by various people and also won by default. he still deserves his license tho
an exotic game hunter sounds pretty cool! i wonder if we’ll see pokkle again. kinda doubt it? that sounds pretty firmly non-combat based, and therefore probably pretty far from any plot lol
so gons dad is a bigshot huh.....whatever hed be a bigger deal if he didnt abandon his son tbh
gon swinging his feet on the bench....sooo cute
so ging could restore a bunch of ruins but he couldnt raise his son...ok
im just gonna be bitter at this guy for abandoning the most perfect boy vhbhjfbsjhdhbfsk sorry dude but being a good hunter doesnt make up for being a shit father
gon is so precious ;_;
WHAT WAS SATOTZ GONNA SAY TO GON???
why does it look like theyre googling things on MS paint
ah yes, padokea, on the continent of Africa But Sideways
idk if i talked abt it before but the world map is WILD lmao i love how its all the continents/landmasses scrambled around.....im super curious abt that weird island in the top center of the map, thats the only thing that immediately sticks out as not having a real life equivalent
the music in this show is so charming :’) i love the main theme sm
gon is sooo precious i literally cant get over it. and his hurry to rescue killua is so sweet....and i love how naturally charming/charismatic gon is....pretty much everyone he meets likes him, especially leorio and kurapika, who basically adopted him after knowing him for like a day, and continue to be completely taken by him
ok wtf is satotz & co talking abt......do they know something abt ging that they arent allowed to tell gon???? shouldnt gon have access to the same info now that hes a hunter? i need ANSWERS
i bet this whole thing abt the hunter exam not rlly being over is a metaphor abt the hunter exam NEVER truly ending bc youre always being tested, or st
ok the ED continues to be So Much like especially the last shot where the 4 main characters look like theyre posing for a JC Penny catalog while the singer goes FULL metal-screamo
ok ruth and i just rewatched the next two eps woohoo
i love that there are tourist busses that take people to the front gates so they can like pose for pics and stuff vhbhjafdsfkj and its like ‘ah yes here are where the local assassins live!’ thats so funny yet it makes so much sense
i love that leorio passed tf out during the bus ride. big big mood
gon is so cute...hes like ok yes i understand that we’re not supposed to go in but i think they can make an exception for me bc im very polite.
those 2 dudes r so ugly and so dead god bless
that bigass buster sword....sir please
ruth and i rlly thot that the old guard guy was gonna turn out to be grandpa zoldyk or st lol
the fact that the dog managed to eat All their flesh but left some clothes....skill
also the dog is named mike but it sounds like the guy is calling him miku hvbjdfssk
this cant be the first time some morons have been killed here likeeee
i cant believe nobody has visited the zoldyk estate in 20 years damn they all rlly b havin no friends. depressing
the whole gates thing is wild. also that part where gon gets the math wrong on the weight.....BIG mood kiddo
ok the part where gons on the phone w/the butler is soooo good oh man. i love how gon just calmly dials the phone again after hes hung up on the first time and then YELLS....and leorio and kurapikas faces r so good
also the butler guy unfortunately has a point, it isnt foolproof that gon is here Legit....but he IS let him see his tiny bf :(
as ruth pointed out, the butler guy is reminiscent of kuro from one piece. same vibes
maybe if leorio was jacked like he is in the manga/1999 anime he couldve opened the gate that first time around....Ls
god i love this shows approach to Everything so far,....as ruth put it, half the time its like ‘oh wow they should do [x]/i wish theyd do [x] but ofc they wont cause its a shounen’ but then they DO do [x] and its like damn thats dope
anyways i love how gon is increasingly approaching situations with his Plucky Shounen Protag Attitude in full swing, and he pretty much gets shot down every time. BUT his general determination to see killua bc killuas his FRIEND and hes gonna RESCUE HIM is still a good and pure motivating force
like here, when hes climbing over the wall and hes like whatever i dont wanna have to deal w/being tested thats bullshit, i wanna see killua, my intentions are pure, im gonna try my luck with the dog....i was like ok yeah he’ll get over and like tame or defeat the dog and the guard will be suitably impressed bc nobodys ever done That before, and then gon will continue on to get killua
but NOPE instead the guard calls him down and explains that gon Will Die if he tries that, and then the guard will die too for letting that happen. and gon is like oh shit my actions have consequences for people other than me, wow.
and THEN the guard takes them in to meet the dog. and hot DAMN that is a scary creature. not even really a dog tbh. they did an excellent job making the dog Legit Scary and not just like, big and flashy looking....those eyes are so soulless, and the proportions are freaky
and the guard says exactly what i was thinking - that gon would use his Country Boy Woodland Creature Skills to workaround the dog....but then the subversion - this creature is NOTHING like the woodland critters gon is probably used to dealing with. theres no way gon stood a chance here. the guard just saved him from a really unfortunate death
i love all the Super Heavy Stuff in the servant house that seems so inconvenient vbhjdkfasjfld. also forgot to mention earlier but the guard guy being Absolutely Ripped was wild and kinda funny
training montage! gon continues to be so cute. and i love so much how leorio and kurapika are like no, you rest, we’ll take care of this. good parents!!!!
and then!!!! they sync up and use the power of gay love to almost open the gate. but then gon uses the power of Improbable Shounen Protag Healing Speed to toss that arm sling off and help out
i feel like leorio was side-eyeing gon like w8 a sec u broke that arm like a few days ago that aint right.....
oh man i almost forgot abt that scene with the zoldyks torturing killua :( :( this poor kid he doesnt deserve that
also mom zoldyck seems truly awful but i must say her aesthetic does fuck. the victorian-lookin outfit paired with the futuristic cyclops visor thing....excellent. also im betting this face bandages are from killua cutting her face
this family is so fucked up hvbsjdhjfbakdfn
killua telling his mom that gon is definitely gonna make it there :’) hes got such unshakable faith in his bf thats so good.....
back w/the gang, and immediately they run into more trouble in the form of the young girl butler, whose name i dont know, but i love her....her design is SO good oh man. a non-caricature black person? who also isnt sexualized? in MY anime??????
i love how gons approach to conflict is currently ‘let more powerful person beat me up for hours straight in hopes that they get tired or something idk bro’ like....i love him lol, is it in an effort to show how determined he is? he doesnt even try to dodge her blows or get around her....id be tryin to hop that fence lol
oh shit the tiny zoldyk kid from earlier is spying on them....she was w/the mom so im sure thats not good
when he punches the rock part and it breaks....strong boiiii
oh man that little flashback from when killua first came back and told her that he made a friend ;_; bruh
i love butler girl :( she wants to let gon but knows it isnt allowed....and as soon as she starts to waver BAM here comes mom zoldyck JFC that was so sudden and jarring....im assuming butler girl isnt dead cause that would be lame and anticlimactic
also IS THAT NEN??? NEN>>>??? NEN??? HM? NEN?????????
im so annoying abt nen i need to make one of those ‘is this a pigeon?’ memes w/’is this nen?’ bc thats me anytime anything remotely weird happens lmao
i do think its rlly nen this time tho
anyways shit is wild, cant wait to meet the full zoldyck family
PREDICTION CORNER:
as i said above i doubt hisoka will show up now bc this arc is a lot shorter than i anticipated. also im doubting that illumis even gonna show up honestly
i think we’re gonna have this OP for a while, as the part just at the end shows gon and hisoka fighting in what looks to be an arena, and ik the next arc is the heavens arena arc, which im assuming is the tournament arc....
also i have no idea what that weird building in the OP is but my guess is that its the building w/the heavens arena in it bc its tall and,,,,heaven
i predict there wont be much fighting in this little arc bc how tf else is it so short. at this point i rlly think gon is just gonna grab killua and go lmao. im super curious abt how thats gonna go down, considering that killua is currently strung up just bc he wont apologize...so i cant imagine his family would just let him leave w/gon. i wonder if killua will fight them, or if gons determination will impress them and then theyll let killua go (doubt it)
thats basically it....we’ll see abt the next few eps holla

Zi-O 19 and 20: lol whoops waited a long time, might as well do them at once!
~We now bring you our Quiz Saga Liveblog.~
WhiteWoz’s Storytime Void is infuriating. Both because it’s so visually cluttered with all of the times displayed, and because the MULTITUDE of ticking sounds.
I love that the boys don’t have to stay still to transform. Seeing their transformation backdrops follow them like this, as their running, it’s great!
(I’m still pretty sure that Oma Zi-O’s bizarre chair is his transformation backdrop, by the way. At least, assuming that he’s not Another Zi-O.)
Is that a GOOGLY EYE on Another Quiz’s forehead?!
Sougo’s using the gun mode an awful lot lately.
“That monster is mine.” Yeah, it sure is, buddy. It SURE IS.
Hm, don’t think I noticed last time, but “The lessons of the past can’t be clouded by lies” is what’s playing over the shot of Rider Woz in the OP. Does that apply to the lessons of the future, as well?
Hey, Kamen Rider Quiz. You’re a little overpowered, there. We’ve already got ONE reality warper affecting our actions. We don’t need two, thank you very much.
I can FEEL the ‘We are not okay with this fight’ just RADIATING off of both Sougo and Geiz as this guy’s attacking them.
Geiz is still immediately here for the Woz’s nicknames, and Sougo’s getting a kick out of ticking off ‘his’ Woz. I love it.
The Another Rider and the Original Rider both existing at the same time… I haven’t seen the rest of the episode, of course, but I’d guess it’s a combination of “someone brought Actual Quiz back in time”, “Sequence Breaking”, and “The rules of time travel aren’t nearly as set in stone as they have been led to believe.”
(Yes, I’m sticking to that particular gun, come Helheim or high water.)
Sougo has a point – BlackWoz doesn’t come along for the fights, like, ever. He didn’t last time against Another Shinobi, not really. Not on his own; he was following Sougo to try and keep him away. So YES, Sougo’s calling you out on being out of character.
HI YES have I mentioned I really like when this season does ‘parallel version splitscreen’ shots? Like, during the Gaim arc with the two Sougos, and during “Fourze and Faiz” with Sougo and Geiz in the two respective time planes. It’s GREAT.
It’s a thing that the past few seasons have done, actually – these sort of split-views of characters. Ex-Aid used it a number of times for Emu and Parad’s conversations when they were fighting each other, particularly as Mighty Brothers XX L and R, where they went back and forth showing the suits in the ‘real world’ and the civilians in a mirrory, shadowy mindscape. Then, in Another Ending, there were several times during Genm vs Lazer that Kiriya and Kuroto were juxtaposed with their Rider forms. THAT was played a lot in the second half of Build – scenes alternating between having the armor and the civilian talking in the middle of a fight. To say nothing of the Takumi/Sento swaps, where they would sometimes change which actor was present when Takumi was talking. Sometimes. I really like that ‘form meets function’ aspect – remind the viewer who is under the mask, or who’s in the pilots seat, and it’s just really cool. The synchronized alt-selves talking is just another extension of that, be it a time-displaced Sougo or a Woz from a different timeline altogether.
… um.
Actually, whatever happened to “3 days from now” Sougo?
Suuuure, these are the only two options. Riiiight. “Take Quiz’s power (and totally kill your friend)” or “No More Mutants Riders.” Yeaaaah, we’ll get RIGHT on that, thanks Woz’s.
AHAHAHA NO. Uncle Tokiwa… ‘given how long it’s been stopped’ that watch is a Tragic Keepsake for Quiz, isn’t it? I mean, he’s from the future and all, so.
“Oh! Sougo, you have a lot of friends who like clocks! This one can stay for lunch too!”
“Um, uncle, no, this one has directly tried to kill me, actually, so maybe not-”
Ohhh. Right… Assuming the ‘riders lose their memories without their powers’ is true, which the characters all still believe is, even though i’m not so sure…
Taking Quiz’s powers while he’s… um, 2040 minus 2019 is…
Taking Quiz’s powers while he’s 21 years in the past is NOT a good thing.
“You will soon be forced to make some rather merciless decisions. Consider this practice.”
HEY WHITE WOZ. I’m not liking your expressions here. That’s waay more sketchy than someone who ‘supports’ their ‘savior’ has any business looking. Like, not even a creepy adoration sketchy, just. Plain creepy.
Oh no, that’s right, Another Quiz is Actual Quiz’s father. And now Mondo says that ‘he was talented, according to [his] mother.” Which means that in the proper timeline that he’s from… he never knew his father.
(Re-Ray plays quietly in the background)
Sougo has ZERO points. Poor Tsukuyomi only has three. Mondo quit it, you’re the GUEST here. Show some mercy on your poor, moronic host.
Geiz, what’re ya doing sneaking downstairs? (It could only be Geiz, because he’s wearing pants that fit.)
(gasp) GEIZ! You’re not wearing your harness! I was starting to think it was part of you!
(Congratulations! You didn’t do a violence!)
~skipping to the fight~
INSERT SONG: GEIZ TIME!
Okay, but really, when are they releasing these? And how many more are we going to get? Because so far I’m liking what I’m hearing, from this one and from Sougo’s in ep 16.
Not really sure what those sound effects are with your Ex-Aid armor today, though, Geiz.
Decade!OOO is Tajador. We want our bird.
BUT. Sougo’s movements are… eerily Eiji-like right now.
Hey, didn’t I say something about ‘when he stops being a knock-off, that’s when we need to worry?’ That would have been… right, last time was when I was watching the raw of episode 15. When Sougo was pulling off a pretty decent version of the Rabbit Tank Sparkling finisher. And then in 16, he was using Mighty Brothers XX pretty accurately, as well.
HM.
They go for the finisher, and the music stops dead when Hora freezes time. It’s disconcerting enough when that they do that with the background music. When it’s VOCALS that cut out, it’s terrifying.
Neither Geiz or Sougo are meant to take attacks from other Kamen Riders. It’s why Geiz was so poorly off after that curb-stomp Sougo gave him in the first part of “OOO and Genm.” It’s why Decade dealt so much more damage to both of them. And they just got hit with each other’s finishers.
WhiteWoz cares not for your puny ‘morals’ or ‘sense of right and wrong’ or ‘geiz’s growing realization that he’s not going to be able to go through with killing zi-o’.
WhiteWoz cares not for anyone.
Hey, Showy McSynth Pop? I don’t think it counts as winning if you hack the timeline to let yourself win.
So, Quiz’s backstory is breaking my heart. He just wants to see if his father actually loved his mother. That’s tragic. “Until she knows the truth, I don’t think my mother will be able to move on.”
About as equally tragic? Sougo’s line. “I think I understand.” said hesitantly, as he sits down, with restrained movements. Usually, when he’s Sougo (as opposed to Zi-O), the kids arms are almost constantly in some sort of motion. But he folded them and sat quietly down.
Sougo… what happened to your parents?
Geiz, baby, please tell me that the attack is at least partly a stunt? That you talked to Mondo before you guys came here?
Geiz??
(enter episode 20!)
We’re back to BlackWoz’s Storytime Vault! Hooray!
So: Sougo gets BlackWoz to help him and Mondo get out, via nifty Magic Scarf powers. Hora brings Another Quiz with her. And WhiteWoz is a total creeper calling them cowards.
The sunlight light overtaking Geiz and going into the 20 Rider Kicks logo is GREAT. Not only is it a great method for a transition, but it keeps us from seeing what Geiz is feeling – which it needs to, right now.
I’m pretty sure that was a sigh of relief from Geiz when Sougo and company left, after all.
The sequence breaking Another Riders seem to be a lot MORE painful to become than the Regular Another Riders… and those were already painful to watch. (Another Quiz’s eyes flashed red and blue briefly when he transformed, that’s nifty!)
Yup, I was right. The watch is a Tragic Keepsake. It was Mondo’s dads, and I think it broke today.
Sougo shows off his ‘Low INT, High WIS’ stats again. Did terribly at the quiz last episode, but can tell that Mondo’s not just here for his mothers sake. (Sougo, what happened to your parents?)
Geiz asks Tsukuyomi what Sougo would do. Well, he asks what “Zi-O” would do, and I eagerly await the day we get to see “Zi-O” become “Sougo” for him. Please let it happen. I’m still upset that nobody expect for Kasumi and Kazumin ever called Ryuuga by his name, this is almost as bad.
When she says that he’d try and prioritize Mondo’s feelings, he replies that “I guess we’ll have to fight. Make sure you tell him that.”
I don’t think that’s what you actually mean, Geiz. I think you’ve got a plan.
I hope you’ve got a plan. … one that you’ll be able to follow through on, because we know full well how that original plan is going.
And through these last two scenes – inside and outside of 9-to-5, the piano version of Over Quartzer is playing. It’s a thing of beauty.
Hm. “I guess we’ll have to fight”… Geiz, you were talking about you and Sougo, as opposed to you and Mondo, weren’t you? Because you went straight for Zi-O, not for Quiz. Clever boy.
Wait, when did you get Build?! I get that the watches are interchangeable, but you’ve been running Ex-Aid a lot lately, too.
(Now I kind of want to know if the Cross-Z and Genm watches are compatible with the Decade adapter…)
Sougo took a BEATING with that Build finisher, didn’t he…?
Nah, not as much as he could have… it looks like Geiz was pulling his punches, so to speak.
Sougo pulls the ‘which Woz are you?’ gag, and actually gets BlackWoz to refer to himself as such. Sougo gets a kick out of that, Tsukuyomi is dully surprised, and Woz is disgusted with himself.
Heehee… neither of them are telling their respective Woz’s what their own plans are. And neither of them are actually agreeing with their respective Woz’s goals.
Pity the respective Woz’s don’t acknowledge that last fact.
Sougo asks what Geiz would do… and when Tsukuyomi tells him that Geiz asked her the same respective question about him… that seems to tell Sougo everything he needs to know.
Low INT, High WIS. Sougo, you’re a deceptively devious little twig, aren’t you?
(WhiteWoz, knocking Hora down wasn’t necessary. Because I don’t believe for a SECOND that Geiz did THAT.)
Sougo, you deceptively observant little twig.
“So… Tsukuyomi said that Geiz asked her what I would do. I know I would let them interact. So, if he’s doing what I would do, then that’d be why he attacked me up there. So now I have to hold up his end of what he would do, and go straight to getting rid of the obstacle. So, I’ll take on RiderWoz, and let Geiz lead the father-son chat.”
So… The HeiGen Forever movie IS, in fact, canon, then? Because that’s the Double Ridewatch right there. And- pft – the Gaia Memory shoulder pads are temporarily little stick figures – pftHAHAHA! And they do the pre-transformation pose before attaching – this is absurd oh my god!
Of COURSE beating Another Quiz could work with Kamen Rider Quiz!
If a Riders power can only exist at one point in time; which still sounds fake, but I’ll allow it for now; the one that comes later seems to take priority. All the previous Another Riders were made after the Proper Rider already existed. That’s why the watches that our riders use had to be picked up in the present day – that way, they came into existence after the Another Rider did.
The exception to that is Shinobi, who didn’t exist at all yet, and was rendered impossible by being his own Another Rider.
In this case, Kamen Rider Quiz technically is the later iteration. He became a Rider in the future, and he’s here via time travel. So, chronologically speaking, Another Quiz came into existence in 2019, but Kamen Rider Quiz does not exist yet. So he can be considered the ‘replacement’.
SOUGO NO DO THE FINISHER IN THE LIGHT I WANT TO SEE IT PROPE-
wait it’s a Double finisher with CYCLONE JOKER? Maybe I don’t want to see it properly, Joker’s finishers are usually borderline body-horror…
Okay no, we’re good, it’s still iffy but it’s not nearly Joker Extreme levels of iffy, so we’re fine. I am A-OK with this finisher being a bootleg.
RiderWoz is OP. Sougo’s REALLY hurting after that.
Sougo and Geiz are. Not. Meant. To. Fight. Riders.
This scene with Mondo questioning his father is absolutely heartwrenching you guys. Made even more so by the piano version of Over Quartzer picking up where it left off earlier.
And then RiderWoz just has to come in and ruin everything. And use some TOTAL overkill on those attacks – oh GOD with actual lightning bolts and everything, and I had thought Quiz’s attacks were brutal when HE was doing them?
WhiteWoz cares not for your puny human morals or ethics.
Hey. HEY. What did those two watches just DO to Geiz? The bizarre vision thing is one problem as is, the electric shock is another, but something ELSE about that just effected him. Poorly.
WhiteWoz is in some serious trouble.
Hey. HEY. ProperWoz. What is that watch you just handed to Uncle Tokiwa? Why do you have Sougo’s upgrade?
I am glaring in the directions of BOTH Woz iterations. You’re BOTH super sketchy. But at least the first Woz is a more tolerable type of sketchy. At least he doesn’t seem to delight in other peoples pain.
SO I’m having fun with this again! Just have to hold out hope that they know what they’re doing with the previous riders, and keep going!
After all...
Mondo doesn’t seem to have lost his memories, now does he?

Casualty 003
Here is my weekly Casualty post which will hopefully as usual open a nice discussion :) Or just annoy people with how long it is but I’m okay with that. Kek.  - I love Jan. I had an immediate feeling I was going to adore her and I was right. I don’t typically get attached to characters so fast and can take months but I am in awe with her presence and energy. (Kudos to Di Botcher) I hope her character maintains standards of being well written. Can’t wait to see more of her - Very refreshing. - I have large mixed feelings about the water stunt scene. Overall it was quite brilliant and very well written. The panic and fear is very real especially then with Sam destroying herself over not receiving consent for the amputation but knowing it was life or death. I think my issue was just with the young mans acting... At certain points it just didn’t match my standards but apart from that it was brilliant and I  enjoyed  watching it.  - Sam looked so uncomfortable telling the sister to come and hold her brother.
- Louise biting her tongue? Britney’s dad snapped at her about his broken arm/wrist and in my mind I’m used to Louise perhaps being snappy back at the attitude but she was actually really chilled, sweet and soft spoken. - I really liked Dougie (Sorry if spelling is wrong I can’t be bothered to check. Bea’s dad.) I think it comes from a more personal space. He is a father and ex alcoholic that alone has the potential to destroy everything he ever had yet he swears and promises Bea that he is not drinking -  That he promised he would stop and that he had. I like that. He’s sensitive. Despite how hard it can be to stop drinking and seemingly for his daughter. “Worlds most embarrassing dad” NO DOUG YOU’RE TRYING SO HARD. I LOVE YOU DUDE. - I still struggle to believe Sam was in the army but gathering a better understanding that maybe it was the wrong choice for her despite her passion for it. She has never once striked me as a soldier though could just be poor writing over the years. Whilst I’m not saying soldiers are emotionless, she has never handled a situation with the dominance, calm nature, precision and stern face that you would as a soldier. There is no order to her, no dominance in situations and she seems to struggle to control her emotions such as that in the water system. By all means she is entitled to be scared, emotional even but that should not of been expressed. Iain handled it much better in a manner  I expected a soldier would.
- The young girl had brilliant emotion for her brother and her worried cries and broken voice almost made me tear up actually. For a moment I had placed myself in her position of watching my brother having his foot amputated. (Excluding the enhanced distraught from the drugs)  - Bea is very harsh on herself. She clearly wants to be the best Doctor she can and will beat herself up when things go wrong. This is a typical trait of someone who really, really wants something so they are horrified of it all going to crap. She would rather of left after almost losing a patient because she had planted that doubt in her mind that she was unable to be the best. I have stated before that I’m not a fan of Bea but I have seen her in a new light after these last few eps. Good on her. - Sorry I don’t like Sam and Jacob pairing. If it stays friendly then I might be okay but nahhhhh Sam this is not ED bingo you CAN NOT marry everyone in the hospital. What I do like however is someone reaching out to someone else in an emotionally disruptive time. Iain was quite cold fronted towards it whilst Jacob showed somewhat of an understanding as to why Sam was beating herself up over it.  - Man did Dylan look good. Woahzers those grey suit pants have me weak, the hair, the beard. Sorry Not Sorry.  He looked banging. Goddamn Dilly boy you’re on fire.
- On a serious note I think Dylan is starting to take Rash and Bea under his wings slightly. Dylan knows what it is like to be scared and also knows  full well what it is like to be a very good Doctor and want to be the best possible but beat himself up when things don’t go to plan! Much like Bea as I mentioned above. He has identified that Bea is enthusiastic and really wants this - I believe he respects this massively and so want’s to show her that being a Doctor and being a good one is all about facing the fear and proving you can rise above it. - Dylan’s little finger point and head nod towards Rash. I think I have take this as a sort of “You look after her now.” Kind of thing. No words needing to be spoke just a point, nod and returned nod from Rash. It’s a very sort of ‘You know what I’m trying to say don’t you.’ Sort of thing. Dylan is shedding his false thick skin layer by layer but only for the right people. - “It wasn’t you that lost your brother his foot, it was the drugs.” - “But you have got to want out and you have got to mean it.” Jan being incredible. Her intentions under it all is obviously to protect her paramedics but she didn’t have to directly help Hannah either. The ‘You have got to want out and you have got to mean it.” Really slapped me personally but only because Casualty has been responsible for making me see my own problems in the past and seeking help/support hence my deep connection with Dylan (for the most part) I really liked Jan for this  because it was stern, tough, hard love and sometimes that is all it takes to make someone not only believe they can change but nudge them into making those changes.
- Did I mention that Dylan looked absolutely bomb?

hi. i have a quick and possibly dumb question but i'd like to know your opinion on vld+racism. fandom has claimed several times keiths and allura's relationship is written in a racist manner. i don't agree with that claim but i do think voltron's writing can get borderline(???) racist. how? in the way they write the alien races that have been oppressed by the galra empire for the longest time. something in the way they are all... mentally weak seems off. what do you think about this matter??
(sorry for the delay, lots to unpack here)
Okay, so there’s several issues. One is the way Allura is written, and the way the narrative treats her, when it comes to her (completely justified) distrust/hatred of the Galra.
The second is the political aspects of the alien races. I’ll just say… this is bad writing. You’re right (in postscript to the ask, not quoted here) that ‘mentally weak’ is kind of a loaded term, but I would say the formerly subjugated peoples are… insipid.
Part of the problem in writing a really smart or competent character is that you have to be fairly good, yourself, at figuring out what defines being ‘smart’ or ‘competent’. For Hunk and Pidge, it’s pretty straightforward; we give them hard problems to solve, a smattering of quasi-technical lingo, and then we have them solve it. For more complicated matters like diplomacy and warfare, it takes a really analytical (and savvy) mind to come up with a solid ‘third way’ that will strike the reader/viewer as ‘smart’.
But if the writers can’t think up something brilliant to put in the characters’ mouths, there are a few tricks they often fall back on, to compensate. One, they stack the deck so the only resolution the writers can think of is, in story, the only possible resolution. Two, they can either make sure no other character questions or devils-advocates, OR if that would be wildly OOC, they find a reason that character isn’t present, OR they bypass the whole thing by stacking the character deck.
(An example of the last is when Keith says in S3, “we need to go after Lotor, now”, and Shiro insists on an alternate plan – rather than debating which is better, the rest of the team simply falls in line with Shiro, and Keith’s plan is overridden. The writers just bypassed having anyone say, “hold on, which of these is really better?”)
So when it comes to the aliens, to make Allura seem like a politically savvy character (which she patently is NOT), and to make Kolivan seem like a militarily savvy character (which I’ve come to realize he also is NOT), either we give them really good ideas that show their competence… or we make sure everyone else around them is just that much more ignorant.
Parallel to this, if we want to show that Allura is bringing people together, then either we show how she does that (yet another complex and difficult skill set) or we have her say something moderately acceptable and stack the deck, there, too. Writers do that by removing all possible agendas or conflicts from the listeners. The aliens are basically just place-holders, timed to cheer on cue.
If the writers were certain Allura’s or Kolivan’s words would be convincing in their own right, then we might see aliens raising questions, or pushing back with their own agendas – and yet we viewers would remain in Allura’s or Kolivan’s corner, as a convinced audience. Instead, the writers are relying on those insipid aliens to be the plants in our audience.
On a cynical day, I might be suspicious that the EPs/writers actually lack the imagination to realize they’re even doing this. If they think already that Allura or Kolivan are that smart and competent, and see the written words/actions as the Best Course of action, then it might not even occur to them that anyone would protest. Of course everyone would go along.
But even on my cynical days, I can’t help but think that even bad writers have to have at least some awareness of humanity. Put nine people in a room to decide on something big, you’re probably going to end up with at least two arguments and seventeen opinions. Even with Keith’s outburst (which was neither full argument nor alternate option, in the overall scheme of things), the kind of meeting we saw in S3 with the aliens just never, ever works out that smoothly. Never.
tl;dr: they made one character look extra-smart by writing the rest as stupid.
As for the first question, about Allura and racism… @stitchomancy linked to a post I can’t find right now, but there’s a trope about the Racist Black Woman in Space. And the only thing I can say is: this writers’ group is predominantly white, and predominantly male. I get they’re trying to address an elephant in the room of the racial conflict between Alteans and Galrans, but they’re badly equipped to handle it. They’re writing from a position of privilege, and it really shows.
They skipped the massive emotional beat of the reveal, they did it on the tails of hugely swinging audience sympathy towards the poor kid who just discovered his hidden ancestry, and they isolated Allura as the only one reacting so badly (Coran, for the most part, is neatly kept in the background, so we don’t really know what he thinks). So instead of seeing Allura’s distrust as entirely justified, the narrative supports that we should see her as behaving like, well, an irrational racist who’s hating on Keith solely because of something outside his control and boy isn’t she just nasty about it.
(I’m not even getting into the agonizing cringeyness of watching a WoC apologize to a coded-white-guy about her – totally justified!! – hatred for a race that systematically destroyed her people. Just no.)
If they had done it right, and given us a narrative that actually supported Allura, it could’ve had a powerful impact. It could’ve also laid the groundwork for why Keith (in S3) wouldn’t actually care if Allura lost her way and got left behind. She threw him away, in a sense, and whatever loyalty lies between them is still somewhat damaged, as a result. But again, since the narrative continues to affirm Keith’s POV, from the outside Allura just looks kinda irrational, and biased without reason.
And that dynamic does come across as racist, as a result, and that’s entirely the fault of the writers for the way they established, framed, and carried through the emotional beats (or lack thereof). In a way, I don’t see downgrading the alien races into insipid head-nodding puppet characters as anywhere near on the same level as their treatment of Allura, but it does kind of stem from the same place: something is holding the writers back from digging into those opposite points of view, that might contradict or undermine the direction they want the viewers’ loyalties to lie.
As an addendum, it’s entirely possible the writers might want to be exploring these deeper questions, but keep in mind: Dreamworks and Netflix are both US-based companies. Americans historically have a very, very, very difficult time talking about race. Remember, this is a show ostensibly meant for kids (cue think of the children), for an audience that unconsciously has swallowed the notion that ‘the only ones who talk about race are racists’.
It might not be far from the truth to say any exploration the writers do write (or suggest writing) is getting shut down from on-high, and the result ends up being an emotionally-truncated and emotionally-incoherent result.
