‘Oh, that,’ said Vimes. ‘I know about that. Like, you make a decision in this universe and you made a different decision in another one. I heard the wizards talking about that at a posh reception once. They were . . . arguing about the Glorious Twenty-fifth of May.’
‘And what were they saying?’
‘Oh, all the old stuff . . . that it would have turned out different if the rebels had properly guarded the gates and the bridges, that you can’t break a siege by a frontal attack. But they were saying that, in a way, everything happens somewhere . . .’
‘And you believed them?’
‘It sounds like complete thungas. But sometimes you can’t help wondering: what would have happened if I’d done something different—’
‘Like when you killed your wife?’
Sweeper was impressed at Vimes’s lack of reaction.
‘This is a test, right?’
‘You’re a quick study, Mister Vimes.’
‘But in some other universe, believe me, I hauled off and punched you one.’
Again, Sweeper smiled the annoying little smile that suggested he didn’t believe him. ‘You haven’t killed your wife,’ he said. ‘Anywhere. There is nowhere, however huge the multiverse is, where Sam Vimes as he is now has murdered Lady Sybil. But the theory is quite clear. It says that if anything could happen without breaking any physical laws, it must happen. But it hasn’t. And yet the “many universes” theory works. Without it, no one would ever be able to make a decision at all.’
‘So?’
‘So what people do matters!’ said Sweeper. ‘People invent other laws. What they do is important! The Abbot’s very excited about this. He nearly swallowed his rusk. It means the multiverse isn’t infinite and people’s choices are far more vital than they think. They can, by what they do, change the universe.’

Prompt 129
Danny, now an adult, has just moved to the city of Gotham. Actually he’s been an adult for a while, but every once in a while he has to end his life, at least legally, lest someone get suspicious. Usually whenever Dan or Ellie does an oopsie and pulls a firebird with being reborn through their core.
So legally, one Danyal Nightingale, has just moved to Gotham to open a bakery (Thank you for the wonderful recipes and bonding Clockwork) while taking care of his practically newborn son Jordan. Of course Elnath- Ellie- had to pull a core retreat too, which is just his luck.
It wouldn’t be a problem, but he’s trying to not be so broody. A ghost- even a half-ghost- carrying another core though, has instincts turned up to like, eleven. Which again, wouldn’t be much of a problem if not for someone falling into his dumpster late at night bleeding. A vigilante, which he’s sworn to stay away from that life years ago. And it’s not a lethal wound…
But his instincts are screaming to not let the person bleed all around his nest, and he knows from experience that it would continue to bother him. Which is how he ends up with Batman on his couch to Dan’s glee if the ghost chirps are to go by.

Idk who needs to hear this but publicly whining about a woman dating a shitty man instead of you is loser behavior regardless of gender
It's one thing to say she deserves better, let's face it a lot those women DO, but the moment you prescribe yourself as the antidote you are entering nice guy territory

I dunno man. Maybe canon will prove me wrong, but I don't think the name Kiriona was forced on Gideon. Gideon, who has wanted her whole life to feel like she's wanted by someone and belongs somewhere. If her newly-found father took her aside and said "In the language of my grandparents, our ancestors, your name is pronounced Kiriona. I would like to call you that, to save on confusion." I just... I think she'd be cool with saying yes.
She doesn't really identify with it, and she has highly ambivalent feelings about the father in question, but the name Kiriona connects her with grandparents. It might have been what her great-grandmother would have called her, if things had ever been simple and kind enough that they could have met. Kiriona offers her a place to belong in connection with the generations before her. As much as it's not enough, not on its own and as isolated from those generations and that culture as she is, its also not nothing. And I can't believe it's less than nothing.

oh. kirishima is that guy that tries to go on date after date after date and it just. never works out.
so genuinely into it, even has butterflies ! but he's at home getting ready and buttoning up his shirt and he takes a last look in the mirror and — he just wishes it was with you.
his date that night is so great and lovely and funny, but there are little moments when he looks at their face and feels a deep ache in his heart because he shouldn't want for someone else while a wonderful individual is sitting right there in front of him. but he does. thinks about what you would order to eat, to drink, if you would let him hold your hand on the way back to the train station, if you'd let him kiss you goodnight. just a small one, even.
and it doesn't help when he returns to work the following monday, just for you to gently knock on his office door, all bright-eyed and curious.
"so...how did it go? are we hearing wedding bells yet?"
his date was great. 10/10. he laughed and he joked and he blushed at their flirting and even texted them afterwards to make sure they got home alright. just as he's done with all the previous ones.
"nah," kirishima rubs the back of his neck and smiles lamely. hopes you read his disappointment as how the date didn't go and not over who it wasn't with. "plenty of fish in the sea, right?"
"aw, kiri, you'll find someone that's great for you soon, i know it!" you frown at him and he feels the back of his eyes sting, his chest grow heavy with all the things he wish he could say to you.
"yeah, no, you're right!"
but he just can't.

everyone saying lance is son of poseidon, son of aphrodite, son of appollo.... i hate to say it but you're all wrong. the answer has been right in front of us all along.
Lance is a son of Hermes and I will stand my ground firmly on this one. He's drowned out by his big family, never really the Most Important or The Most Interesting in any team, he's self conscious about not having a Thing, that's like, his whole character arc (assuming vld actually continued his character arc hehe). Kids of Hermes are quick-witted, funny, charming, jack of all trades types. Those (IN MY OPINION) are the defining traits for Lance. PLUSSS like I said, his whole character arc is being the guy who is just kind of good at everything but not GREAT (which obviously is also his greatest strength), he's worried about being forgettable and useless.
There's literally no way he could be a child of the big three and still have that self conciousness that is so core to his character. He'd have no need to show off and prove he's cool and important because being a kid of the big three means you're the Main Character by default.
Anywayyy thanks for reading my essay I love thinking about Lance <3

the sweater deserved better

"Okay, I've got a question." Steve was holding his favorite sweater. "Actually, let me go ahead and change my question from how is there a hole in this sweater to why is the hole in this sweater right where my nipple would be?"
Eddie was biting his thumbnail and avoiding eye contact, a classic sign that he was responsible for this.
His favorite sweater. The one that made his eyes pop and made him feel so confident.
"It's a simple answer," Eddie mumbled, not removing his thumb from his lips.
Steve waited. And waited.
"Go on," Steve gestured for him to continue.
"Well, I was wearing it the other day, you know how I like to wear your sweaters sometimes because I love you so much-" Eddie paused to smile at Steve's suspicious look. "It's true! I put it on and there was a loose thread, but I was busy doing something and didn't wanna get the scissors, so I just tugged on it a little. That made it worse. And then I panicked and tried to pull it harder and that was not the best thing to do at all, but it was too late."
Steve looked back down at his sweater and frowned. What Eddie was explaining would make sense for a small hole, one that could easily be patched up, but this? This was large enough to fit his hand through.
"So you just kept pulling the string until half the sweater came unraveled?"
Eddie nodded seriously.
Steve shook his head. "I don't buy it. You know how to sew. You know pulling that string would destroy the sweater. Are you covering for someone?"
Eddie immediately started shaking his head, which meant he definitely was covering for someone.
Steve threw his hands up. "Who? And what did they even offer you to cover for them? The kids have no mon- oh my god."
Eddie's eyes widened.
"You let Dustin wear it."
"I did not let him! He just took it without asking and when I saw him in it, there was a struggle to get him out of it and then-" Eddie gestured at the hole. "I can fix it!"
"You can fix it."
"I can try."
"And if you can't?"
"I've fixed holes in denim, I can fix this, Stevie. Have some faith."
Steve rolled his eyes. "I want to wear it this weekend."
"I can fix it."
"Hope so."
