I still think about your art of Golden Flower where you refused to physically draw Pav and Miles kiss (I still wonder if it was a fever dream because of how much I enjoyed it) But now I really wanna know what's your opinion on the ship?
It was in fact real sdfghjk wow I totally forgot about that!
I drew that back when I thought Miles and Pav were the same age but now that I know that he's probably like. 13-ish compared to the art book I prefer to view them as like a brotherly bond almost. Or like that annoying freshman that you have to explain calculus to sdfghjk
Not saying the ship is problematic outright bc their ages are still up for interpretation and it'd still be a 9th and 10th grader but eh I'm just not feelin' it the way I used to

hello! i am a little bit obsessed completely normal about Shattered Upside Down and I had a question that i don't think was answered in the story itself. Sophie's mirror dreams, I thought they were just from the living facility trying to communicate with her but a reread made me realize that the living facility didn't really know who sophie and the others were until they entered the facility.
So what were those dreams? Were they just sophie's mutating subconsciousness trying to come to grips with all the changes, or was something else trying to communicate with her? If it was something else communicating with her, personally i thought it would be neat if it were Echo, but idk if that was in the range of Echo's power.
i hope you're having a good day! ^.^
Hello! I love talking about the wings au and hope you're having a good day! I haven't been having the best afternoon, but this is quite the pick me up
I am open to various interpretations and meaning and connection found within the text from readers; I adore seeing what people find and can take away, so if anyone has their own purpose they'd like to impart on the mirrors, that's totally fine. It's not expressly shared, but rather for you to take what you want from it.
However, the authorial intent behind those mirror dreams were to catalogue and explore--albeit it vaguely and symbolically--her journey as she lost herself and rediscovered a new version of herself that she came to terms with. So yes, you could say they were her subconscious coming to grips with it, but I'd also go so far as to say it was representative of her conscious mind coming to terms with it too. It reflects (because mirror) how she feels about herself when she's conscious, how she understand herself and how strong her sense of self is and what's going on around that.
I do have to admit it's been a while since I read the au and I know there are details eluding me at the moment, but that was the general goal I had when writing it.
Though fun fact: I forgot what the original intention of the mirrors was. I started writing the mirror dreams with a specific meaning/vision in mind, but I didn't write it down, and since there were so many other things I was writing about I forgot what that intention was. Throughout the middle I was writing without a specific final intention, and then towards the end I figured out a new meaning for them (the one now about changing self perception and acceptance).
But! Even though that was my intention, I do think the idea of various other creatures/monster reaching out is a fascinating one! I wish I'd thought of that--human thoughts broadcast, why not some creatures? It definitely could be within both The Being and Echo's capabilities, and the concept in general does give me some short story ideas--Shannon's been working through various other character perspectives, perhaps I could do something similar...
In summary: the mirrors were about Sophie's mental journey of self-acceptance from an authorial perspective, but I am 100% open to other interpretations and possibilities! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to talk about it, the wings au is very dear to me

I just realized the opening cutscene of TOTK is absolutely hilarious once you know the whole story of the Imprisoning War. Like, they had this big, epic battle, ending with Rauru sacrificing his life to seal Ganondorf away, locking him in place for ten thousand years, all based on the hope that Link would be able to strike him down with the Master Sword in the future. Ganondorf waited there for ten thousand years, expecting an absolutely epic final battle against an incredibly skilled warrior wielding a blade more powerful than Rauru and the other sages combined.
...And when Link shows up, it takes Ganondorf about five seconds to fatally wound him and snap the Master Sword like a fucking toothpick. If Rauru hadn't somehow intervened, that would've been it, Link would have been dead right then and there, battle over, the end.
Can you imagine how fucking disappointed Ganon must've been after that? He was looking forwards to an epic battle, not a five second curbstomp. No wonder his reaction to that whole thing was basically just him going "Wait are you serious, was that it? That was the whole fight? I WAITED TEN THOUSAND YEARS FOR THAT!?"
Ganondorf might've kicked our ass without even trying in the opening, but at least he didn't get to enjoy it.

just a quick ask to tell u it makes me super happy seeing the detail u go into when pointing out stuff u like about other people's art of ur ocs :3 it's so rare to see but it's so so motivating!! <3
Thank you! I don't take any interest for my art for granted, and if someone goes through the trouble of drawing my characters for me, I feel like trying to write a proper response is the least I can do. For a visually oriented person, receiving gift/fan art is a huge deal, it means someone considered my goobers worth their time and effort, they've probably been thinking about them more than a little and found them inspiring in a way or another, and I find that terribly flattering. It's extremely fun and interesting to see other people's takes on them. And I've drawn stuff for people as well, I know how nice and rewarding it feels to receive a response that is longer than a word or two. Positive comments like that can linger in people's minds for a long time, at least for me they do.
