Marty M was flanked by Strickland on one side and a security guard on the other; he had on a wide-eyed, dumbstruck look that Emmett recognised vaguely from his previous, rare encounters with new hires. Clearing his throat, he stepped forward and offered up a friendly handshake. “Good morning,” he said. “I’m Doctor B. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” The kid – it was difficult not to think of him as a kid – had his arms folded across his chest. He made no move to return the handshake. He looked at Emmett’s outstretched hand. His eyes went to his face; they tracked, slowly, up and down his body, taking all of him in. Then he turned and bolted like a frightened animal. “Oh, my,” said Emmett, as he vanished around the corner with a squeak of shoes on hard floor. The security guard was laughing. “Mr Murphy!” barked Strickland. “On it,” said the security guard. “I’ll get him – don’t worry.” He jogged away in pursuit. For a long and uncomfortable moment Emmett stood in the doorway of M&D, trying not to meet Mr Strickland’s unfalteringly stern gaze. “Uh,” he said, looking somewhere in the direction of his left ear. “How’s the orientation going?” “He’s been trying to give us the slip all morning,” said Strickland. “Ah,” said Emmett. “I’ve had worse,” Strickland added. He did not elaborate. There was a yell, nearby; and the security guard rounded the corner, half-carrying, half-dragging Marty M, arms firmly around his waist. “Let me go!” the kid was yelling. “Let go – let go of me –” His feet fully left the ground, kicking out at the air, his hands grasping at nothing, and at the look on his face Emmett’s guts twisted. “Feistiest new hire we’ve had in a while, huh?” said the security guard.

15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for? I don't think I really have one? BTTF is the first fandom I've ever posted fanfics for. As a kid, I wrote bizarre stories about the Care Bears, where they were all mischievous and evil and went around the world causing havoc. Does that count?

21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!) I'll give the generic answer and say Doc and Marty, lol. They're such a great duo; delving into their friendship in my writing is always fun. Oh, you know who else I love writing? Marty and Verne. One of the elements from the cartoon series that I really enjoy is the close bond they have, and I like incorporating that into any interactions they have in my fics. There's a little bit of the big brother/little brother dynamic between them in "Harborage", and I'm actually finishing up a one-shot that focuses on the two of them right now.

23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas? For the most part, I prefer independently coming up with ideas. Prompts can sometimes be helpful in nudging me in a certain direction, but I don't use them often. Challenges tend to intimidate me, which is why I've never attempted any of the BTTF-themed writing challenges that have gone around.

31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them! I don't have any that are prominent enough to talk about. If I create any original characters, it's usually only to have them in very small roles or just sort of in the background. My only real OCs that come to mind are like... John (the guy who ends up owning Doc's garage) and Mrs. Clark (the librarian) in "Despite the Distance." John is literally only briefly mentioned just for plot convenience, though, so he hardly counts. I do kind of like Mrs. Clark, though. She's the one who had to ban Marty from the library unless he was with an adult--because of the big brawl he got into there--and so she's suspicious of him, but she also has sort of a soft spot for him? Listen, I only gave her a couple of lines, but I decided that she sees him as a stray, feral kitten and wants him to get his act together and live up to his ~potential~.

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want! Okay, okay, so, I'm nearing the end of my current fic, "Because of the Barriers," and have already got several upcoming fics lined up that I'm excited about. As mentioned above, one is kind of Verne and Marty-centric and is basically done. I literally have just a couple of sentences left to write at the end. It snowballed one day from me having this scene stuck in my head of Doc and Marty walking in the woods around the Brown property (the farm that I headcanon Doc moves to outside of Hill Valley post trilogy) and led me down the rabbit hole of, "Ok, but why are they walking in the woods? What's the story here?" Ultimately, I came up with a fic where Verne has run away from home, and Doc recruits Marty in helping to find him. It's not a long fic, but I found I had so much room to not only include some great Doc and Marty friendship stuff but also take a look at Verne's role in the Brown family (being the outcast and "black sheep" of sorts, which is pulled from his characterization from the cartoon), the brotherly connection he and Marty have, Doc being intensely in Dad-Mode, and just general complicated family dynamics. Idk. I had a blast writing it. I don't know if this will make any sense, but Marty is peak Marty in the fic. Like. He is so Marty.

I will be much briefer about the other fics because that was a lot of rambling already. One is my attempt to finally jump on the "Stuck in 1885" au bandwagon that so many others have been writing about, and I can't wait to get to it. It's only in the outline stages currently.

Another is a multi-chapter focusing on those "missing" scenes from 1955 in the first movie--basically, what Doc and Marty were up to in the moments we didn't see on screen. I've always wondered what it was like for Doc as he got swept up into the whirlwind that was that week spent with Marty. There's something about that scenario, Marty being a stranger to Doc while Marty already has such a deep bond with him, that I've always wanted to take a look at. It will definitely be slice of life, and I already have a chapter and a half done.

I'd also like to try writing something inspired by the "Time Travel Memories" kit that was released a year or so ago that contained that letter Marty wrote that revealed he told Dave and Linda about being a time traveler at some point. I think there's a lot of potential for a story there; I just have to work out the details of where I want to go with it.

What's your opinion on the "<insert character name> from the future is <insert ship name>'s child"?

It can be cute and funny for fanfictions even though I don't take it too seriously. It's just harmless fun and I can see why some people find it appealing.

I love "Back to the Future" types of crossovers with Glee, especially for Brittana. BTTF actually reminds me a lot of Glee in tone. It's really silly, wacky and romantic. In fact, if Glee had been a different kind of series it would have been cool if there really was a time travel plot to get one of the main couples together, especially since several characters talked about building time machines and there were so many lines from Glee that eerily seemed to predict the future.

Those ideas can be really fun AUs. For instance I do really like the idea of Roderick and Marley being Finchel children from the future (they fit well for their kids based on their personalities/looks etc.). Sugar from the Future is also really cute (especially with HeYa going along with it as passionately as they did back in the day). Vanessa was hoping one of HeYa would have a girl to confirm the Sugar from the Future theory but they only had boys.

Here's the thing though, my theory is that Sugar from the Future is real in a sense, she just isn't their biological daughter because Brittana only have sons (I'm a boy mom!Brittana truther). Sugar is actually a girl from the future who Brittana saw as their daughter (possibly Rachel's younger sister adopted by Hiram and LeRoy) so that's partially why she looks/acts so much like them and there's this familial dynamic between the three almost. I did really enjoy Sugar being at the Brittana wedding and acting like her "moms" got married even though I'm not much of a "Sugar from the Future" fan anymore in canon.

Spencer would be one of my top choices for a Brittana son from the future because 1.) I love Spencer 2.) He looks so much like Britt but acts like Santana. There's actually an adorable scene where Spencer is walking with Brittana in season six that gave me all the "Brittana and their teenage son" feels.

7. What's the best thing about the canon you're writing?

The possibility. BTTF as a franchise lends itself to endless crossovers and alternate timelines and potential scenarios that there's no shortage of material to work with. Who's to say a malfunction with the flux capacitor, something like one of the prongs no longer working, doesn't result in the ability to unknowingly dimension hop? Almost like Steins;Gate hopping between worldlines.

Like, I've got an AU idea that needs some severe fleshing out that involves the brainwave analyser tech, the flux capacitor, and an accident either in the lab or in the time machine that results in these two technologies fusing in a way and producing very unexpected (and for a while unknown/confusing) effects on our main heroes.

But yeah, honestly, the fact that everything can be canon and absolutely nothing at all can be canon is one of the best things. There's no shortage of creativity that comes with a franchise like this and as someone who used to write all the time and who loves weaving complex stories, there's a lot to play around with here.

Also another one of the best things is that there's always something new to see or think about. Some new fan theory, some new small little detail in the film somebody has spotted that nobody thought of before...

Yeah.

8. What's the worst thing about the canon you are writing?

Hmmmmmm. Difficult question. That the animated series fell very flat? That some of the deleted scenes across the films should've been left in to some capacity? That sometimes they don't quite stick to their own time travel rules in the film? Though honestly I don't really care about that because all the films are so great.

I think I'm going to once again say how shafted Jennifer gets in the official canon tbh. I'm glad that the fandom at least loves Jen and gives her better and gives her what she deserves because I love her and she will always be a part of the Time Family as far as I'm concerned.

18. How long have you been writing the character?

Started 10 August 2023 so...about three months 'properly' writing him.

21. Which song do you feel describes your character the most and why?

I'm just choosing songs that describe Doc in some way rather than trying to hunt down the song that describes him the most right now since I'm very bad with music-based asks haha.

I picked Strange Machines by The Gathering before, but another good option I'd have to say might be Traveller in Time by Uriah Heep, and this one has a lot of vibes of him being stuck in the nineteenth century.

Every day I have to look at the sun to see where it was that I've come from. I have a feeling there must be a time when I'll get a chance to go home.

coughs the line about trying so hard to pay for my crime nails it if you think about how guilty Doc felt for the situation, even though it wasn't his fault, and leaving Marty seemingly stranded back in '55 and himself in 1885.

If I could go back the same way I got here and see the people that I once held so near, I'd do my best to find an answer for you, but first I must wait until I'm set free and I don't know how long that's gonna be.

Then there's just the I'm a man with a whole lot on his mind just out there somewhere travelling in time.

Also, the line I've tried for so long to find some way of helping mankind REALLY hits because Doc has definitely wanted to do that with his inventions; believed he could help make the world a better place.

You asked this on August 8, and it's Halloween now. I'm sorry I never answered before, but TBH the way you phrased that, and being on anon, made it feel kinda hostile I guess? Sorry.

(Anyway, this is in response to this.)

So, for months now my main WIPs have all been Back to the Future-fanfic related. This is very unusual, since I'd usually hold onto an interest/project for a month before moving on to the next one. Then I'd come back after a year or so.

So my current BTTF project is what I call the Royal AU. Basically, it is the year 1885. Marty is the heir to the Grand Duchy of Hill Valley, Doc is his personal tutor (who is also building a steam-powered time machine), Jennifer is a princess from neighboring Grass Valley, and Biff is Prince Frederick, who thinks the throne of Hill Valley is rightfully his.

Right now, I'm (trying to) post bits and pieces of it to A Royal Doctober as part of that challenge, but as of right now I have only two. But I have so much more lore than I've posted! Some of it's on my own website, but that's in progress too.

Some notes:

California is the California Empire, under the rule of the descendants of Emperor Norton. The Emperor is basically the "boss" of George II, Grand Duke of Hill Valley.

The leader of Hill Valley's parliament in 1885 is Amos "Goldie" Wilson. His rival, leader of the main center-right party in the grand duchy, is Gerald Strickland. In 1887, Biff will run as the leader of the far-right party. (I already have the election results--a lot of my projects involve fictional election results!)

History is generally moved back 100 years, and Europe and America's swapped. Europe is the "United States" and a single republic.

SPOILERS, BUT: What they don't know is that several timelines collided in what an agent of a multiversal time police called an "ontoclysm," and I think they might be trying to put them back. Which is a problem, since Marty has more siblings now and he'd very much like them to all exist. The task of the Docs--the AU's Doc von Braun and the canon Doc Brown--is to ensure all the timelines can exist independently.

I could keep going, but I'm being called away from my computer so I'm gonna stop now.

Temp rules/guidelines/info while this blog is heavily in the works.

First and foremost, Doc does not have a modern verse. I'm using 1920 as his birthdate, as was given in the novelisation, and his 'main' verse, regardless of where and when he time-travels to, will always see him a man of 1985-20XX. Doc's main verse takes place after the trilogy by default and alludes to the fact that he, Clara, Jules, and Verne returned from the 19th century to settle properly in Doc's time.

Not a rule per se, but more of an acknowledgment that while I do enjoy the comics' telling of how Doc & Marty met, I hate that they decided to have Doc be the one to tell Marty to call him by that nickname. No. Absolutely not. Doc would never. Marty, after a few weeks of coming by Doc's place, started calling him that affectionately and he just rolled with it.

Your muse will not automatically know about the DeLorean or that Doc is a time-traveller. It is a secret he goes to great lengths to keep for fear of sparking something catastrophic he can't control and he will not, without reason, clue anyone into the secret of his lab, the Time Train, or the DeLorean. Doc goes to extremes to blend into whatever time period he's visiting. It's not public knowledge. He's not shouting it to the heavens. Hell, he concealed the entire project from Marty until he was ready to reveal it at 0115 that morning. Am I open to muses finding out through whatever might unfold during a thread? Absolutely! Consequences!! But that requires communication.

There may be dark themes present on this blog due to the nature of time-travel, the ripple effect, how easily the trilogy claims that the past (and therefore the future) can be altered (see: Hell Valley timeline, 1985A), Doc's trauma resulting from his actions in the '40s and from time-travelling (the things he's seen, the knowledge of his own death, the times he thought he was going to lose Marty, etc.) and several arcs in the comics. The films chose to keep things more light, but I won't be afraid to explore verses / AUs where things take a darker turn. That being said, I will not be writing topics like rape, non-con, sexual / romantic acts of any kind with minors.

I do not and will not, under any circumstances, tolerate romantic ships between Doc & Marty or Doc & any other muse that is not, at the very least, in their late thirties. In 1985, Doc is sixty-five years old. After the events of BTTF I, when he leaves Marty and Jennifer to travel to the future, he visits the rejuvenation clinic and adds several decades to his life, and though the treatments revitalise him and give him the appearance and constitution of someone in his forties, he is still mentally and emotionally in his sixties. It's not happening.

Romantic shipping is unlikely to happen on this blog, but it's not impossible. It's important to note that Doc is not actively looking for a partner, nor for sex, and he's very guarded with his emotions and almost thinks he's better than such base human desires. He is difficult to ship with. Romantically oblivious. For the longest time, he has been content to have it be just him and his dog, then himself, his dog, and Marty, and just be able to focus on his science. If through interactions there ends up being some kind of a spark between muses, I'd be open to chatting and seeing where it goes.

I am usually a multi-para to novella length writer and I enjoy plotting. Got an idea? Please come tell me about it! I'll be delighted and eager to jump into something with you.

I love AUs! I love crossovers (BTTF makes this so easy I will BS a way to get him to cross realities too) and I love interacting with OCs and canons. Honestly Danny and Vlad’s rivalry is so funny and confusing from the outside. You have the shrimpy little Fenton boy who is apparently too weak to tell his bully to step off but he sure has no problem getting in the face of billionaire Vlad Masters and threatening with pure venom dripping from every word. Meanwhile, you have Vlad who is a grown-ass adult, trading threats with a child right back but in a patronizing and almost possessive way. The ease at which they interact says this is deep, longstanding feud which what would a lanky teen and a rich asshole who lives several states away have to fight about??

It would be interesting if Danny was just, blissfully unaware of how powerful he was and how he absolutely terrified most of the ghosts he interacted with. Danny’s looking at himself, a fairly young teenager and an even younger ghost whereas some of his enemies have been around for decades if not centuries. He gains his confidence, knows his rogues gallery, knows he can usually come out on top. But he’d always consider himself the underdog.

After awhile, new ghosts just stop coming through the portal to ravage Amity Park. “Hmm the whole ‘terror and pillage must be getting old by now,” Danny muses not realizing most of the more sane ghosts are staying the hell away from Phantom and his chosen haunt. 

Ghosts approach tentatively, reverently, seeking alliances and servitude because it’s much better to be on good terms with such a powerful figure. Danny just grins and welcomes his new spectral friends and completely misses their blatant relief at his generosity. 

His regular rogues, who have known for a while that Phantom is terrifyingly powerful but they also remember when he couldn’t shoot and ectoblast so the effect is lessened somewhat, as always coming up with new ways to mess with him. And Danny rises to every challenge and sends them packing, the ghosts bitterly fix themselves up lamenting on how such a little shrimp could hold so much power. Which of course scares the (un)living daylights out of other ghosts.

One ghost gets lost in Amity and is confronted by Danny and promptly just starts squeaking and crying out of abject fear. Danny has to spend 10 minutes shushing the poor ghost before showing them the way home. He shakes his head, the real world can be scary for ghosts but he just can’t understand what frightens them so.

You know, it’s actually hilarious that if Vlad hadn’t hosted the reunion that he and Danny might have remained blissfully unaware of each other for a good while. Plasmius will be out there continually sending ghosts to kill Jack, not understanding how the man manages to survive (40% Danny fighting them off, 60% Jack Fenton is just That Bitch). Meanwhile there’s this goodie goodie ghost out there in Jack’s town that just annoys Vlad on principle. Maybe he goes to bully the strangely powerful newly formed ghost not knowing it’s his enemy’s son.

Then for Danny’s perspective you have this smarmy asshole ghost who is scarily powerful and keeps whooping Danny’s butt. Dan is genuinely scared of this ghost so actually makes an effort for him not to find out he’s human and where he lives. So Danny always disappears mid-fight before he passes out. (Vlad thinks he’s gone hiding in the Zone, Danny meanwhile is bleeding out in a nearby alley). Also apparently the ghost has a massive grudge against his dad so he’s like subtly asking his folks if any of their good friends died horrifically also were assholes who beat up kids.

The ghosts, meanwhile, are looking back and forth at the two halfas like “I’m not gonna tell them, why would I tell them? You tell them! No way I’m not getting involved in their stupid human squabbles, you tell them!” 

To make things even more hilariously complicated, Vlad gets so fed up he takes a long vacation to Amity Park to “reconnect” to his old college friends. He’ll kill Jack with his own two hands and figure out why that white haired ghost boy confuses him so. Vlad Masters and Danny Fenton meet face to face for the first time and their is instant animosity neither can explain. You know the Love Square for Miraculous Ladybug? Get ready for the Hate Square. Vlad Masters/Plasmius and Danny Fenton/Phantom hate each other in all their forms. Danny is trying to be polite but wondering why mom and dad’s creepy friend is setting off his fight or flight and Vlad is just rubbed the wrong way by Jack and Maddie’s creepy, sullen son. They enter a room and both their ghost senses go off and they just swivel their heads around like absolute idiots. 

Let’s make this even funnier and say all this goes down during Reign Storm. Vlad awakens the ghost king who promptly drags the whole town into hell. The annoying little hero wannabe Phantom ghost is fighting him for causing trouble also stopping him killing Jack p l u s Jack’s equally annoying son will not stop bothering him. Danny is at his wits end fighting this Wisconsin Ghost and then going home to the smug billionaire in the guest room. Of course there comes a point where they both de-power in front of each other and it’s just the Spider-Man pointing meme. Both Danny and Vlad are standing there like “are you saying we’ve been going around and around each other for months and not realizing we’re both the same freaky species??”

The ghosts are watching all this drama unfold with ghost popcorn, this is better than cable.

Danny Phantom headcanon that for how unpopular they are, most of Casper High and various other people follow the trio on public social media. It’s not like they’re interested in the nerds lives or whatever but you just never know what’s going to show up. Fenton posting videos of living hotdogs running around his living room? Foley taking selfies from atop Amity’s tallest (also restricted) building? Manson making an impassioned video on globalism while Fenton is doing something strange and unsettling in the background? 

There’s something UP with the nerds but no one wants to ask but everyone follows them because everyone wants to know what the hell they’re going to do next.

One thing that’s hilarious to me regarding DP fic crossovers with other superhero media is, while we joke that Danny is sorta OP in canon, he’s extremely OP in comparison to other heroes. His power set is just perfectly matched by his antagonists (ghosts) and thus is any situation outside of ghosts he’s ridiculously powerful. 

Imagine a hero that can attack enemies and then phase through any return hits. Who has superhuman healing even when he’s hit. Who can be invisible and completely undetectable to people, technology etc for recon purposes. Who can overshadow anyone and make them do as he pleases. Ghost powers, especially stable and strong powers like Danny’s, would be an immense boon to whatever hero or villain got ahold of him. He could change the outcome of any battle.

And yet the fact that he’s a) 14 and stupid b) stuck for the most part in Amity and c) his rogues consists of other ghosts who can counter his insane power set means that Danny doesn’t really get how scary his powers would be to the outside hero community.

@pixiedane tagged everyone on this, and considering I've been wallowing in my sudden Being Into Fanfic lately (though to be honest I've been READING a lot lately more than writing), see this link, I figured I'd take her up on the challenge. how many works do you have on AO3? 19. That's much less than @pixiedane! I'm a baby fic writer!

what’s your total AO3 word count? 66,239

how many fandoms have you written for and what are they? There are technically seven listed, but "Marvel Cinematic Universe," "The Avengers (Marvel Movies)," "Captain America (Movies)," and "Agent Carter (TV)" all apply to the same fic, so really just 4. But that doesn't count fandoms I've written but not completed (and therefore posted) for. So there are more to come. Maybe. Sometime.

what are your top 5 fics by kudos? *

"On the End of Endgame," 51 kudos, because I'm right and Marvel doesn't understand their own time travel rules and 51 people KNOW it!

"The Puppy-Fly Effect," 39 kudos, because it's Back to the Future, the most mainstream property I've written for! So people see it and say, "oh, I've actually seen that one" and they're more likely to read it!

"The Invitation: an Epilogue," 22 kudos, which is pretty good since this is my newest fic on there. It's a Howl's Moving Castle (BOOK, PLEASE, OBVIOUSLY) epilogue, so considering it's not a RECENT thing it just keeps getting slow and steady readership. I myself have been reading a lot of Howl fic lately, and people are getting comments on their decade-old stories from me now, so I imagine this one also will slow and steadily keep accumulating hits and kudos.

"Kerry and the Meaning of Life," 20 kudos. I'm honestly not sure why this is, by far, my most kudoed Legion FX fic. It's the first one I ever wrote, and got me started on the whole writing-the-entire-Loudermilk-coming-of-age rabbit hole I fell into to begin with, but I've only improved over time, I think, but even after I'd posted other Loudermilk backstory I think is objectively better, this one still gets the most!

"Syd's (Third) Childhood Begins," 15 kudos, because when people finish watching Legion FX the NATURAL move is to seek out fix-it fic. I wouldn't say this is fix-it really as much as ensure-the-ending-is-actually-happy-it, but I did use the "fix-it" tag, and at least one of the commenters DID say they immediately came on AO3 "looking for pretty much exactly this"...

do you respond to comments, why or why not? Absolutely, because I know what it feels like NOT to get comments, and also what it feels like to-- I don't know, I just get paranoid, if people don't respond to me, I think stuff like "Did I say something wrong? Do they not care about my opinion? Am I invisible?" so I'm Do Unto Others-y about it, even if all I can think of to say is "Thank you!"

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Well, I haven't actually posted (read: finished) the ending yet, but it's definitely "Exploration of the Astral Plane," because that's just Legion FX canon. No spoilers, Oliver Bird starts out the show having gotten lost decades ago, and this is the story of HOW he got lost, and his friends didn't KNOW if they'd ever see him again, so the paragraphs I've written of the end do make me quite teary! The fic's really fun despite the canonically sad ending, though, honest!

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written? I have not written one YET, if I recall, unless you count the several mildly interconnected IPs involved in the Pipeweed Mafia Stories, which isn't even posted because I feel uncomfortable posting Real People fic online, but crossovers are fun and I really enjoy reading them, especially when the writer successfully blends things together while being true to the characters. Just today I read a hilarious one blending The Good Place and Harry Potter!

have you ever received hate on a fic? Gosh, this is such an ironic question. I wouldn't say that I WISH I received hate on a fic, but my fics aren't even NOTICED enough to receive hate! I already feel paranoid-- Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, you know how it is-- when I don't receive LIKE on a fic! It's LIKE receiving hate for me, because my brain goes into "Does nobody like it? Does nobody care? Are they all too nice to say it's terrible?" mode, so, yeah.

do you write smut? if so what kind? Absolutely not. My demisexual self hates reading it, definitely not writing it. I struggled enough writing just a taste of what a horny, slutty teenager who-talks-too-much Oliver Bird would have been in this AU, and that's mild!

have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of. That would really suck, wouldn't it, if someone stole my work and ended up getting MORE LIKES AND COMMENTS THAN ME on it.

have you ever had a fic translated? Also not that I'm aware of, and if I'm not aware of it but it happened I guess that would answer the "stolen" question, too.

have you ever co-written a fic before? Ever in my entire life, I feel like I must have, but not anything I've posted online then

what’s your all time favorite ship? Hmm. Honestly, there are ships I defend passionately if the topic comes up, but I'm not sure I have a favorite just on my own. Especially as I hate smut, so I avoid seeking out specifically shipping stories. But, since I have been reading a lot of HMC fic lately, I should mention that Howl and Sophie ARE one of my absolute favorite fictional couples, but that's just how DWJ wrote them, and I can tell you unfortunately that not all fanfic writers QUITE nail that chemistry...

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? Speaking of The Good Place, I really do wish I could write the novelization, and maybe I'd write some pieces of it longer than the few paragraphs I have written? But I doubt I ever will, let alone to the point of FINISHING...

what are your writing strengths? Fanfic wise, I like to THINK I understand the characters very well, at least! Writing in general? I think it's just my quirky voice? I'm the only me.

what are your writing weaknesses? Oh, very much FINISHING. But beyond that, it's pulling teeth to get me to fill out the story sometimes. I tend to draft with dialogue, and then I have to go back and fill in what's actually happening AROUND the dialogue, and sometimes I'd rather not.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? At first I was like, I don't KNOW any other languages well enough to do this! And then I remembered the Firefly fic I have mostly written but not completed yet, and you know how in the show their speech is peppered with random Mandarin phrases? My husband has the Firefly RPG book and there's an appendix of Mandarin phrases you might hear in the Firefly universe, and I DID incorporate a few of those phrases into my dialogue, just from that appendix and it's probably horrible, but it fit the universe...

what was the first fandom you wrote for? EVER? The earliest I'm sure about is the Ducktales fic I found in an old Girl Scout manual that I must have written when I was 11 or 12. The first fandom I ever posted on AO3, in response to an exchange, was Legion FX of course, but that wasn't until the ripe old age of 40.

what’s your favorite fic you’ve written? I'm going to give this one to "Two (or Three) Mutant Freaks Against the Fourth Grade" just because it has gotten the least number of hits of ANY of my posts, INCLUDING THE PLACEHOLDER WITH NO WORDS IN IT, so it needs more love. And it really is one of my favorites, because it's just a sweet little story about nerds making friends, and I love rereading it.

*This made me curious which fics got the most kudos comparative to their HITS, because the Endgame one has WHOA more hits than any other fic, but it's over a thousand, which doesn't make 51 kudos look so good anymore. Percentage-wise, it's less than 5%, which seems to be where most of my fics hit when you do the math-- between 4% and 8% kudos-to-hits. The exceptions, jumping up to about 18% each, are the BttF and HMC fics, and, curiously, my beloved childhood friend AU mentioned in the last question-- it may have the least number of HITS (22), but that helps the math when you consider it's got 4 kudos. The HIGHEST percentage kudos-to-hits is its sequel, the childhood-friends-as-teenagers-AU fic mentioned in question 5**-- it's got 6 kudos and only 29 hits, so that's about 20%! Apparently people LIKE when I have to write a sex-crazed adolescent boy. COME ON, people! (The story is actually about Asexuality so I guess it really isn't people just wishing I'd write smut).

**Oh, I just noticed the numbers renumbered themselves when I put bullet points in the middle of the original question 3 there, so this is actually the answer to question 8? But it SAYS FIVE.

Well I should have done this a month ago, but better late than never, right? So here’s me talking about my New Year’s Resolution!

Normally I don't bother with this kind of crap because, I dunno, it just seems cheap. Nobody ever seems to follow through with it. But you know what? In 2017, I did!

My resolution for 2k17 was a multi-faceted one, and I didn't succeed at all of it; I said I was going do some adulting that I still haven't gotten around to, and I meant to start my cliche YouTube gaming channel, but I didn't do that either. What I did do was write, and boy did I.

My goal was to write at least 100,000 words, with at least 10k and one posted story per month. (Not counting NaNo.)

Do you know how much I ended up doing? Not counting NaNo, I achieved over 207,000, over twice my goal! I completed three chaptered fics and roughly 20 oneshots, and that's to say nothing of my WIPs.

So this year, my resolution is as follows:

A total of at least 150k words, posting at least one story per month. Most of that can be for whatever my current fandom is (it's bnha right now and hopefully will continue to be, but I know myself), but I want at least 2k per month to be on old WIPs and projects I haven't yet gotten around to finishing.

(My secondary, less-important goal is to make at least one video for my channel, a very modest goal. If I can't manage that, clearly I'm not meant for it.) Behind the cut, my list of WIPs, and planned unstarted fics:

Hello! Firstly, I wanted to say that I LOVE seeing you on my dash! I’m still kinda new to tumblr and trying to find BTTF tumblrs has been slightly difficult, but glad to find your page!

I’m apart of the role play community and have been happily writing as a Marty nearing half a decade now. Recently, I made my own version of the character (as a 23/24 year old) that - after an accident with the DeLorean broke the flux capacitor - made him to be a quasi-metahuman with a specific power (being sorta vague on what the power is as I wrote a fic about it, and might be a spoiler).

Anyways, what’s your opinion on a metahuman Marty McFly? If Marty had any super power, what would you give him?

Hello! Sorry this took me a couple of days to get to. Welcome to tumblr! The BTTF fandom on here is small-ish, but there are enough of us creeping around on here to make it fun. :)

Metahuman Marty is an interesting idea! There's actually a headcanon that floats around every so often regarding a superhuman Marty along the same lines as you mentioned--with a malfunction of the time machine/one of Doc's other experiments giving Marty special abilities, lol. I believe the first instance I saw of the concept was here, and have always thought it was really interesting to explore. (Your fic takes this idea in a totally new, angsty direction!)

I actually joke around a lot that the Marty we see in the trilogy already has powers: super strength and indestructability. You know, since he seems to so easily maneuver the DeLorean off the road and behind the billboard in the first movie and carries Doc up the steps to the mansion in pt III. Not to mention all the instances he just immediately bounces back from things that should leave him with severe injuries. So I'd probably stick with that for my own metahuman AU.

Temp rules/guidelines/info while this blog is heavily in the works and I get a carrd going.

First and foremost, Doc does not have a modern verse. I'm using 1920 as his birthdate, as was given in the novelisation, and his 'main' verse, regardless of where and when he time-travels to, will always see him a man of 1985-20XX. Doc's main verse takes place after the trilogy by default and alludes to the fact that he, Clara, Jules, and Verne returned from the 19th century to settle properly in Doc's time.

Not a rule per se, but more of an acknowledgment that while I do enjoy the comics' telling of how Doc & Marty met, I hate that they decided to have Doc be the one to tell Marty to call him by that nickname. No. Absolutely not. Doc would never. Marty, after a few weeks of coming by Doc's place, started calling him that affectionately and he just rolled with it.

Your muse will not automatically know about the DeLorean or that Doc is a time-traveller. It is a secret he goes to great lengths to keep for fear of sparking something catastrophic he can't control and he will not, without reason, clue anyone into the secret of his lab, the Time Train, or the DeLorean. Doc goes to extremes to blend into whatever time period he's visiting. It's not public knowledge. He's not shouting it to the heavens. Hell, he concealed the entire project from Marty until he was ready to reveal it at 0115 that morning. Am I open to muses finding out through whatever might unfold during a thread? Absolutely! Consequences!! But that requires communication.

There may be dark themes present on this blog due to the nature of time-travel, the ripple effect, how easily the trilogy claims that the past (and therefore the future) can be altered (see: Hell Valley timeline, 1985A), Doc's trauma resulting from his actions in the '40s and from time-travelling (the things he's seen, the knowledge of his own death, the times he thought he was going to lose Marty, etc.; there's a lot to unpack) and several arcs in the comics. The films chose to keep things lighter, but I won't be afraid to explore verses / AUs where things take a darker turn. That being said, I will not be writing topics like rape, non-con, sexual / romantic acts of any kind with minors.

I do not and will not, under any circumstances, tolerate romantic ships between Doc & Marty or Doc & any other muse that is not, at the very least, in their forties. In 1985, Doc is sixty-five years old. After the events of BTTF I, when he leaves Marty and Jennifer to travel to the future, he visits the rejuvenation clinic and adds several decades to his life, and though the treatments revitalise him and give him the appearance and constitution of someone in his forties, he is still mentally and emotionally in his sixties. It's not happening.

Romantic shipping is very unlikely to happen on this blog. It's important to note that Doc is not actively looking for a partner, nor for sex, and he's very guarded with his emotions in this area and almost thinks he's better than such base human desires. He is difficult to ship with. Romantically oblivious. For the longest time, he has been content to have it be just him and his dog, then himself, his dog, and Marty, and just be able to focus on his science. If through interactions there ends up being some kind of a spark between muses, I'd be open to chatting and seeing where it goes. Anything of that nature would be its own separate/independent timeline.
