watching the headless bts and it must've been such a moment in the last episode with The Poison Within. it's 2 in the morning, you're illuminated by a stained glass window, staring directly into the eyes of the person you're singing about... that must've been a very powerful moment in universe too.

MAJOR HEADLESS SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

imagine, if you will.

you're ichabod crane, and a bard is narrating the death of the woman you've been enamored with, but has been lying to you this whole time. it's like she said, this is your bedtime story. because there's no guarentee you'll make it until morning.

you're brom bones, and a bard is singing about the death of a woman you loved, who brings out the most toxic sides of you. your wife has been working with her the whole time, and your best friend is just minutes away from dying. you have been lied to. and it hurts.

you're matilda bishop, and a bard is retelling one of the worst moments of your life, the death and subsequent ressurection of your best friend. but she is no longer who she was, hasn't been for a long time. you know what the right choice is. are you going to make it?

you're diedrich knickerbocker, and you are singing that song. you know the truth. you look her directly in the eyes, laying it all out for everyone to see. you give her no absolution. besides, you're not the one who could give it. you don't have that right.

and finally, you're katrina van tassel. and your death is being told to a man who shouldn't have had this much of an impact. he shouldn't matter. but he does. the bard looks at you like you're guilty. like you've done something wrong. you have not. you only want to live. and you will. won't you?

I watched Headless yesterday and goodness, I need someone to talk to me about Headless.

I love Headless so much, Brom and his Babes mean the whole world to me. Why are there so few Headless fics of Ao3? Also, why are there no Babes ot3 fics? Am I just crazy? Maybe. I wouldn't know. I just think they. Tripp, Cal, and Blair govern my waking thoughts. More people need to talk about them.

Also, why is it that I didn't realize that Kat's mom became the Lady In White until well after The Babes had realized it in Unsolved Babeteries? I didn't realize it till I was making my friends watch Headless, and we got to episode 6 where Brom and Matilda find the old book. I think I've sunk to a new low if I'm slower on the pick-up than The Babes.

Anyways, I'm gonna shut up for now o_o

I really like how headless wrote their characters into stereotypes, and then broke them out in the best ways possible. I'm only going to use the main four as examples but I'm sure there are more. this is just me spilling my thoughts onto a page, it's not going to be super detailed. also, lots of spoilers.

ok so basically, each of the main four kinda fall into a highschool clique stereotypes/tropes (ie. nerd, jock, goth/emo, popular) and yet each character turns that stereotype on its head.

kat is immediately portrayed as the love interest, somewhat just there for Ichabod to fall in love with. but then, the finale. shes the villain, and she's been playing him the whole time, stringing him along and manipulating him into helping with her plan. she becomes her own character, proves herself (to be evil, but still). she has desires, flaws, a tragic past. from her first interaction with Ichabod we can see the tropes she is put into (with the music and the name thing), and while I still would have loved watching that and still would have thought she was an amazing character, everything the persauds did to create her into the character she was made her 1000% better.

Brom is the jock. hes the gym teacher, so obviously. but other than the whole thing with Ichabod, he's a nice guy, who wants to be a better person and genuinely listens when matilda tells him off for being mean to Ichabod. when he and Matilda get married, he truly cares about her, and proves his loyalty to her and Ichabod in the end. always loving, always trying. he's not an asshole, he genuinely cares.

Matilda is the goth/emo. she's immediately portrayed as cold, kind of pushing people away, but as the show goes on she shows how much she cares about people. despite her initial misgivings, when she and Brom get married, she shows that she cares for even, even if it might not be totally romantic (qpr all the way). her entire arc with Kat is about her learning to trust other people, and learning to move on. she finds real friends in Ichabod and Brom, and they help her get through the hardest time in her life.

Ichabod is the nerd. duh. have you seen the amount of sweater vests he owns? just to be clear I do not mean that in a a bad way I also own many a sweater vest. anyway, Ichabod is the new kid in town, the kid who gets bullied, etc. the absent glory thing establishes him as someone who doesn't have a lot of confidence, but who believes that he has the capacity to do something good ("I think it's a chance to prove..."). and he becomes the hero. he wins using his wit and his heart, showing Matilda that other people care about her and that she is not alone. at the end, when Henrietta presents him the sword, giving him glory, he proves himself as a hero and a friend. he becomes the hero without losing a part of himself, especially not the amazingly charming nerdy part.

anyway, yeah. thats kinda it. :) go watch headless if you haven't, you won't regret it!
