one of my favorite things about zhongli is that he doesn’t shut up like i know we like to compare him to neuvillette and alhaitham but zhongli is like inverse of their signature traits. social awkwardness? quiet and reserved? zhongli does not care he will talk like he understands liyue’s social customs very well he just does what he wants. like yeah he’s calm and reserved but he’s not quiet and he enjoys socializing with humans like it’s one of his favorite things to do. the people of liyue describe as someone who is a little odd but very helpful and knowledgeable so he understands people and he seems pretty good at reading their intentions and behaviors so yeah he’s weird but he’s very popular cause he’s always doing shit
tldr zhongli is a yapper he will talk about anything and everything if you give him a chance he does not care if it’s weird or socially unconventional

Modern Au magvel princes? (Idk if there’s a character limit. I can’t find the rules page. So sorry if this isn’t allowed) Like what their jobs are what are some modern things they like, etc
oof writing for modern AU is awfully hard…….. these are my personal HCs for them, but if u have any more always feel free to talk to me thru ask!! i love talking to ya’ll
(joshua is a prince too but… modern AU stuff for him was too hard for me. i love the idea of him being a bartender tho….. gosh………)
Ephraim
Honestly? This man? He’s literally a huge jock - just like what we’ve all agreed on already. He frequently goes to the gym every week, and on top of that, even takes on a large amount of practices for many sports. Eph’s in quite a lot of national teams, actually - and I imagine him as one of the best swimmers ever, hehe. There are trophies and ribbons placed on one of his prized shelves!
Ephraim enjoys his job as a personal trainer - he takes great pride in helping those who want a lifestyle change, and also is very proud of the progress that his trainees makes as the time goes by!! This man is a total bro and quickly has a large circle of friends that he makes at work. People have jokingly suggested to him that he should join the Olympics or something (and he’s actually seriously considering it).
Likewise, due to being a major physical fanatic, he loves to join marathons - especially those that are charity runs. This way, he can do what he loves and give help to those in need! It’s a total win-win!
In his bedroom, there would be posters of many bands that he likes to listen to throughout the years - they’re all a little bit messy and they’re also starting to peel off a little bit, but he doesn’t really care. Ephraim’s room will also be messy as well, since he tends to clean up around the end of the week - so expect clothes littered on the floor. At least he’s still sharp on doing the groceries and daily tasks.
Tank top Ephraim? Tank top Ephraim. He likes to casually walk around with those types of shirts especially, oblivious to the stares he gets often.
His house isn’t very cluttered though - it’d be a few of his personal belongings he kept around that are of worth, photos, the prizes he’d throughout the years, and a few dumbbells and the sort found within his home. Ephraim does keep a huge radio he’s owned for a while now though, and likes to buy CDs for it - he especially likes to play them to start off his day! He keeps those that Eirika and Lyon gives him the safest and listens to them frequently.
Also he’d definitely own a rescue dog. The dog is especially spoiled and is brought along to any trips that Eph might go to in the future!! Even Innes loves the big ‘ol thing, and Lyon soon warms up to its goofy little face.
Innes
Because of how smart he is, I’d like to think that Innes could possibly apply to any of the sciences or arts easily - but he turns out to be a gifted veterinarian who works very well with all sorts of animals! He starts to train to become an avian vet (Frelia has many pegasi, so it would be totally fitting here)!
I can totally imagine Innes as a part-time coach as well! He’s not as strong as Ephraim, but he is strong enough to help sports team train for matches and the lot! It’s also incredibly helpful that he’s very sharp at strategy. Innes actually ends up helping Eph a lot whenever the latter is preparing himself for marathons or other sporty-related upcoming events!
Sharing a rivalry between him and Ephraim, Innes also goes to the same gym as Ephraim and works just as hard as the teal-haired man does. There are active competitions in the gym that the owners host (where these two are against each other’s necks practically all the time).
Though he also very much enjoys exploring - often by himself or someone who can keep up with his snarky comments and sharp mindset. He especially likes to go on hikes to look at the vast landscapes that the world has to offer - photography is a small hobby that Innes’ likes to indulge in. He’s actually got a somewhat decent following online - Tana is definitely his biggest fan.
I love the idea of Innes owning a parrot, like an African Gray… He loves to give it attention and teach it new phrases for it to repeat back. Innes would also teach it many tricks to post online onto his social media (which gains a lot of traction because WOW what a smart boy that parrot is!!). He has secretly taught it to say ‘fuck you’ whenever Ephraim comes by, but because the Gray has a mind of its own, it sometimes repeats it to Tana accidentally.
Being the sophisticated and posh person that he is, he very much enjoys listening to jazz and classical. He’s even currently trying to learn the piano right now!!
Lyon
Lyon would definitely be an anthropologist - he absolutely adores studying the changes of cultures and beliefs throughout the centuries as the world changes and evolves constantly. However, Lyon enjoys Greek and Roman culture the most - their ideas of gods and power and love and just everything were incredibly fascinating.
In one of my previous posts for modern Lyon, he’ll definitely open up a small library or bookstore by himself that sells/lets you borrow a range of books. He loves to collect rare, ancient texts that can accessible and can be brought back to his library (but that’s a secret section that only exclusive people get to borrow!).
Ephraim, despite not having a fondness for books as much as Lyon does, often pops by to his little library to bring in healthy food or invites Lyon out for lunch. Ephraim knows how Lyon tends to go overboard with his studying, so he comes by often to remind him to take care of himself better.
Lyon’s house is a little bit cluttered, but by all means he tries his best to keep it very organized. There are many books piled up on the floor and lining the shelves, which makes up for the majority of the clutter - but it’s incredibly cozy. When Ephraim and Lyon were in the same college together, Ephraim would often come over for sleepovers and they’d have many pizza nights studying together for exams (but honestly, it would just be Lyon actually studying and Ephraim groaning over textbooks). Sometimes, through the piles of books he owns, there are a few misplaced textbooks that he occasionally picks out and he promptly throws them to Ephraim, miffed that he didn’t return them.
Though Lyon does tend to recreate pizza nights often… he doesn’t really know how to cook very well. But recently, he’s starting to get better with Eirika coming over to his house to teach him recipes!

I’m getting really tired of seeing misrepresentation or understanding of the FFXV characters. Not even just the bros, but any of the characters, the bros just being the main ones since they are the highlights of the game.
Some examples would be:
Noctis is this pushover kid who can’t do shit himself. Gladiolus is nothing but this huge bara guy of rage. Ignis suddenly hates puns??????????????? Prompto is reduced to this screaming ball of anxiety Luna is this weak broken woman Bahamut is this great savior of FFXV
There are more but I can’t think of them right now. But all those things above are not true.
Noctis is a bit closed off in some occasions but on most he’s open and he’s very strong willed. He deals with feelings and emotions a little different than the rest of the bros, but not on an unrealistic level that we can’t relate to. Repressing your feelings is rather common.
Gladiolus just doesn’t know how to express his emotions in any other way. Some people deal with them differently, and sometimes the only way you can get them out is by being a bit aggressive. He is hurting just as much as the rest of the bros, he didn’t have time to grieve. Even his sister (and Ignis) make passive light hearted jokes/conversations about his “death” when the news states Noctis is dead. He’s literally thrown under a fucking bus throughout the game. And then the train scene rolls along and people hate him, without even understanding him.
Ignis though he’s very professional, he enjoys puns. You can’t erase that from who he is. Throughout the game he’s always the first to make bad puns (except for when it involved the giant turtle). Let Ignis be a fucking 22 year old man and let him have his fucking jokes.
Prompto is a rather anxious character, yes. But that isn’t all who he is. He has a loving and caring side which we see more of after Altissia. In the demo he actually wakes up early and goes out of his way to drag Noct around to get mushrooms for Ignis. Not because Ignis asked, but because he overheard someone talk about a rare mushroom that is suppose to be really good. And he wanted to surprise Ignis with it. Prompto loves taking pictures for the memories, and he loves chocobos (these are a given). He’s more interested in having fun out of the bros and always willing to indulge Noctis in his crazy ideas. He is far more than his anxiety about his past.
Luna is NOT a weak character. I blame SE for writing her poorly. She has such a strong will, we mainly see it in Kingsglaive. Reason we see it in Kingsglaive and not as much in FFXV? Because in Kingsglaive SE focused on the relationship between Luna, the nations and the lore. Giving her full focus and leaving Noctis out of the picture. We see what she is capable of, she is a bit reckless. She can stand her own, we actually see her manipulate a man into wearing the ring, just so she can get away. She FUCKING KILLS A MAN. She is smart, and she holds no punches.
Bahamut is flat out a fucking coward. The only reason Noctis has to die? Is because he gains the power to defy even the gods. Bahamut doesn’t want that, he doesn’t want another Ardyn. So what does he do? He takes out two birds with one stone. Makes up this fake prophecy in order to attempt to save himself, as if he assumes that Noctis will one day rise up and slay him. Fucking, coward.

How The Venture Bros. Helped Comic Book Tropes Evolve
https://ift.tt/2FZE6LY
There’s nothing new about comic book and superhero parodies. Many films within the current superhero cinema system like Deadpool even turn a self-aware eye to the source material, while shows like The Tick poke fun at the medium with exaggerated character types. A lot of the material that pokes fun at comics, however, does so for the simple joys of parody or to highlight the intrinsic silliness of superheroes. Adult Swim’s classic and now sadly-concluded animated series The Venture Bros. goes about things a bit differently.
The Venture Bros. didn’t begin as a direct analysis of the form and genre, but it gradually started to tell a story that used comic book tropes to show how dangerous and destructive superheroes can be and how they perpetuate a dysfunctional world. The Venture Bros. will gleefully indulge in parody, but it does so to highlight what’s wrong with these ideas and to help promote change. After the series’ recent cancellation, fans have been mourning The Venture Bros. for many reasons, but what’s unique about this series is how it uses informed parody to spotlight the flaws of comic book storytelling and then present a radical, better rounded alternative. Here are some of the best examples.
The Monetization and Crooked Nature of Superhero Leagues
When The Venture Bros. relocates its characters to New York City, they encounter the Crusaders Action League, their universe’s equivalent to the Justice League or the Avengers. The Crusaders Action League run a racket on the city and force civilians to pay them in exchange for their protection and bully those that don’t. Any outside heroes are treated like threats and the group runs a monopoly on crimefighting that’s not dissimilar to how a drug lord runs their corner. The Crusaders Action League is like a major corporation that tries to regulate the public’s safety into something that can be monetized to their advantage. DC and Marvel frequently depict the arguments that happen within their superhero supergroups, but The Venture Bros. evolves this idea to the point where they’ve completely stopped caring about keeping the peace and have turned the privilege of safety into an arrangement that many can’t afford.
The Uncomfortable Nature of “Boy Wonder” Sidekicks
It’s become low-hanging fruit at this point to make jokes about the relationship between Batman and Robin, but The Venture Bros. provokes this topic as a way to say something deep. The show’s Captain Sunshine is more like an amalgamation of both Batman and Superman, but the focus on the character is in regards to his young, boy partner. Hank finds himself in the role of Captain Sunshine’s latest Boy Wonder, which opens a whole discussion on not just the dynamic between Batman and Robin, but that the trauma that Batman experiences from losing so many partners should drive him insane. Captain Sunshine is depicted as highly unstable and he resorts to taking orphans for his new wards. DC often frames a new member of the Bat-Family as a can’t-miss event, but The Venture Bros. pinpoints how this constant loss is the sign of obsessive dysfunction.
A Family of Superheroes Would Never Be Able To Stay Together
The Venture Bros.’ Impossible family is a very clear lampoon of the Fantastic Four. Marvel props up the Fantastic Four as family and friends that have undergone incredible adversity together, but they’re able to use these changes to their advantage, and are made into famous public figures. In contrast, the members of the Impossible family are depicted as horrors of science more than a successful team of crimefighters. The show looks at the realistic pain associated with someone setting themselves on fire or what it means to turn invisible. The effects and aftermath of this accident is shown to fracture this family, not make it stronger. The series reaches the point where the family’s Reed Richards surrogate gets driven to Howard Hughes levels of paranoia, pushes his wife to infidelity, and leaves the parentage of his child in doubt. The idea of a crimefighting family is fun, but The Venture Bros. shows the dangers involved with familial pain and how this is a backstory more appropriate for villains than heroes.
Mystery Inc. Are Detached Maniacs Who Are Lost in Denial
Scooby-Doo and the other Hanna-Barbera creations from the 1960s often reflect a set of values that run parallel to the idealism and optimism of Silver Age Comics. Different takes on Scooby-Doo are self-aware to contrasting degrees, but The Venture Bros. is the first to frame them as legitimate dangers who need to be off the streets. The Groovy Gang finds ingenious similarities between the members of the Mystery Inc. with feared serial killers and maniacs like Ted Bundy, Son of Sam, Valerie Solanas, and Patty Hearst. The Shaggy surrogate even thinks that he can hear his dog talk to him, which is in itself another reference to David Berkowitz.

The 25 Best Venture Bros. Episodes

The show argues that the Groovy Gang doesn’t have any actual mysteries to solve and that they create more problems out of their delusions. They’ve managed to survive by looting the vicinities of their “mysteries” and they’ve been lost in this façade for over a decade. Scooby-Doo periodically puts its wholesome nature under the microscope, but The Venture Bros.’ Groovy Gang details the true progression of how a life in denial and arrested development can turn people into monsters.
Spider-Man and The Horrors of Animal-Based Superpowers
Comic books have a tendency to glamorize superpowers and highlight how incredible it would be to suddenly have the same talents as some kind of animal or insect like a cheetah, shark, or ant. The Venture Bros.’ Brown Widow applies a realistic and anatomically accurate take on Spider-Man and how much of a burden his set of skills would be. The superhero produces organic webbing, but from a spinneret near his anus that turns the power into more of an opportunity for embarrassment. Brown Widow also has six eyes, four of which he’s forced to hide underneath a headband for some attempt at normalcy. Brown Widow is constantly ashamed of his abilities and they speak to the disturbing body horror nature of animal-based superpowers in a way that’s more grounded than something like Marvel’s Man-Spider. Even the character’s name is meant to undercut any superpowers and utility with how it refers to the relatively benign nature of brown widow spiders.
Jonny Quest and The Inherent Sadness of Boy Adventurers
Comic books are supposed to create a feeling of excitement the same is true for series like Jonny Quest or The Hardy Boys that find ways to put eager youth into the roles of mystery-solvers. The Venture Bros. features an entire episode that’s devoted to a therapy session where former “boy adventurers” discuss the damage that these exploits have had on their adult lives. These characters emphasize that a life of adventure is actually a life of trauma and that any person who’s spent their life this would want to repress these memories rather than brag about them. Many of the different superheroes in The Venture Bros. highlight the dangerous ways that toxic expectations can warp the public, but this proves that this level of machismo in youth won’t prepare these adventurers for adulthood, but actually debilitate them.
The Opulent Absurdity of Latveria and Castle Doom
Comic books are ripe with megalomaniacal tyrants who aren’t just content to take over territories, but often want to create their own nations that are meant to act as monuments to their hubris. Doctor Doom and Latveria are the best examples and The Venture Bros. offers up its equivalency in the form of Baron Ünderbheit’s  Ünderland. Doctor Doom is often exiled from his own home, yet he always manages to persevere and regain control. In the case of Ünderland, the nation actually prospers after Ünderbheit is kicked out and it becomes a successful democratic nation in his absence. Ünderbheit floats around and struggles to find a purpose. This whole relationship depicts a realistic look at how a ruler can become irrelevant and that nations often outgrow their original purpose. It’d be like if Latveria turned into Wakanda.
The Uselessness of Elaborate Supervillain Schemes
One of The Venture Bros.’ more brilliant ideas is to take established villain tropes and then combine them all into members of Andy Warhol’s entourage like Edie Sedgwick, Brigid Berlin, and Paul Morrissey in order to say something bigger on the convoluted nature of villainy. The Doom Factory is a commentary on the largely conceptual ideas of supervillain teams that go way overboard for what could be a lot easier. The Venture Bros. pushes this to an absurd degree where villainy schemes are more akin to art installations and “happenings” where the victims are more confused than distressed. This attitude results in The Doom Factory’s quick death as they employ a realistic approach to a team that is more about status and appearances than actual villainy. The villains in the Legion of Doom or other similar groups can sometimes come across more like high-concept nuisances than threats against justice.
The Internalized Masculinity of G.I. Joe and Action Figures
Something very interesting within The Venture Bros. is how the majority of the most masculine characters are shown to be the ones with the most dysfunctions. The O.S.I. is the series’ parody of G.I. Joe and while it gets in its jokes about G.I. Joe’s ridiculous characters and their nicknames, it also digs much deeper than that. It takes this idea of character stereotypes to the extreme with how it basically turns the O.S.I. into a flamboyant Village People-like organization. However, The Venture Bros. doesn’t lean in this direction as a way to insult the characters, but instead it portrays them as some of the most competent individuals in the series. It says that a group like this who are open, proud, and different would do a better job than rote military grunts. G.I. Joe and Cobra Command remain locked in irreconcilable conflict due to their stereotypical aggression and testosterone, but in The Venture Bros. these iconoclastic personalities can unite the two and form a stronger entity in the process.
Constant Cosmic Threats From The Future
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Comics have frequently featured grand cosmic characters that are meant to observe events and pass judgment on the universe with the power to end the whole thing if they see fit. The Venture Bros. beautifully flips this idea on its ear in every possible way in “Twenty Years to Midnight.” A very Jack Kirby-like celestial being known as The Grand Galactic Inquisitor arrives with a purpose that’s nearly identical to that of the Living Tribunal (with a bit of The Watcher thrown in for good measure, too). The entire episode has the Grand Galactic Inquisitor build up dire stakes, only for the character to be shot in the head and swiftly handled. Comic books can get so lost in these cosmic threats from the future and their emphatic vastness, but The Venture Bros. addresses how ridiculous it all is by how it neutralizes the threat before it can actually do anything. There are more than enough problems on the Earth, in the present, to worry about.

Modern!Tropang Nerds Headcannons, Part III
part I / II / IV
MAKARAIG
His friends got him a #RichBitch muscle tee that he wears to sleep
It never fails to make him laugh, though. He doesn’t mind at all
He's loaded as fuck, and nobody knows if it's because his parents still support him or he got his inheritance years early
Taller than most of the people in their tropa, with the exception of Sandoval
Has ridiculously clear skin, the saints and 75% of the student body are jealous
The students are sure Makaraig's human because of the sole fact that he still gets eyebags; which stand out clearly against his fair skin
Nobody has ever seen him pissed, not even his closest comrades. Theyre beginning to doubt whether he actually feels anger or not
Apart from Placido, Makaraig also has perfect eyebrows in addition to his chocolate brown, perpetually sparkling eyes
His eyes get all crinkly when he laughs
The second oldest in their friend group
Probably goes to the gym despite studying law
Dad friend in the streets, sugar daddy in the sheets
Dresses in button-downs, sweatshirts, and folded jeans. Also owns at least three pairs of patent leather shoes, a handful of topsiders, and a shit ton of loafers
The only time he wears sneakers is when he goes out for a jog (fine. He also has one pair of white converses, but that's it)
Looks like your typical Filipino anak-ng-senador rich boy, but his attitude is hardly anything like them
He tries his best to educate himself on issues concerning the masses before he forms an opinion
Tries to see both sides of the issue and doesn’t really want to offend anyone
Lets his classmates borrow his books for photocopying because he knows those things are expensive and they can't all afford it
A natural-born leader; he's got the charm, the skills, the emotional intelligence, the money, and the affluence to be one
Really caring, both towards his friends and his constituents
Would tell his friends to text him when they get home; he does not give two shits that they're all fully-grown men who can defend themselves perfectly when the need arises. He doesn't give a fuck what people say, he needs to know the people he cares about are safe
Teachers and students alike love him
Sandoval is probably his right-hand man
Despite his squeaky-clean image, he's actually pretty sneaky and will resort to questionable means to get himself out of sticky situations
His connections and his money makes doing exactly just that pretty easy
His survival instinct does not include other people; he can get pretty selfish when his ass gets compromised
But, other than that, he'll try to put other people first before himself
Will get shit done and will not let anything or anyone get in the way of what he wants to do. He'll find new ways to get his plans to work
Became student council president both in high school and college
Looks ridiculously good in suits, with his hair slicked back
Wants to work at the Public Attorney's Office before setting up his own firm
He's that type of person who pays attention to the one person in the group who's constantly getting talked over so they don't feel bad. He actually listens to them and encourages them to continue, might even tell the other members of the discussion to listen
A health nut
The only one in their friend group who has facial hair: his sideburns make him look even better, plus he's tried growing a beard and often goes back to it once the summer season's over
SANDOVAL
The tallest, because he won the genetic lottery due to his Nationality
Came to the Philippines when he was younger, fell in love with the country, came back as soon he got a decent amount of money and decided to finish his studies here
The oldest in their friend group
Met the others through Makaraig
His eyes are gorgeous: they're so light they border on being green; framed by thick eyelashes. He has a sharp nose, full lips, and skin so clear and immaculate everyone who's seen him wept. His Spanish roots are clearly manifested in his physical looks, people don't have trouble guessing that he's a foreigner. When he speaks, he takes them all completely by surprise because
He speaks in perfect Tagalog. He can also speak Spanish and English, bu he prefers to use the language of the people he's mingling with. He actually put in the time and effort to learn it during his first few years, and that makes him pretty lovable to everyone he meets
He, however, never got rid of his accent
His voice is heavenly, which is a huge reason everyone wants to listen to him talk. His diction is amazing
He's always being asked to emcee school events
Won several speech and declamation contests. He's shit at spoken word, though
He tried once, and it was a train wreck. Isagani could still remember the secondhand embarrassment
He and Isagani are best bros because they share the same points of view most of the time
He's ridiculously privileged, though
He's probably got a lot of flak for running his mouth, voicing his opinions which mean well but does not show a full understanding of what the common people are going through
He often receives the "you're a foreigner, why are you even meddling in issues like this?" argument and it drives him nuts
Doesn’t take well to criticism
Hates being interrupted
Raises valid points, but sometimes his arguments sound like it obviously came from someone living the high life
There are just some things he can't understand about the Filipino culture; like their distrust in the government
But other than that he adjusted fairly well because hey, we borrowed a lot of stuff from them
Gets shit done together with Makaraig
Was once a member of the debate team
He can bullshit he shit he says and you won't even know
A huge persuasive speaker
Loses his temper quickly in a discourse/argument but uses this anger as a springboard to get his point across more clearly
Is probably already taking his master's degree
Eats a fuck ton but never gets fat at all
Tried balut once, got creeped out by the baby chick, had to take a few drinks to actually stomach the stuff. Actually liked it
The Loud Drunk
Wants people to Fight Him but almost cries when they do
Another angry crier
His cooking is heavenly, he often gets the gang together after big exams so they could indulge in healthy, home-cooked meals after binging on junk
Doesn't really give a fuck about social media sites
