Maybe you could write something with Brain being sleep deprived and uncharacteristically affectionate while Pinky enjoys it but worries and tries putting him to sleep?
Brain grumbled under his breath, piles upon piles of crumpled papers that contained discarded plans for world domination surrounded him, soon to have another one join them as he furiously scribbled out the latest plan he was writing down, snapping the lead off his pencil in the process.
He’d been working since last night’s failed attempt, and now it was well into the morning and he hadn’t slept a wink. His fur was tousled, sticking up this way and that. Brain could practically feel how hefty his eye bags were, and by the dark circles they made around his eyes it didn’t look any better either.
“No, no, this plan will meet failure almost immediately! What could I possibly have been thinking?!”
Brain swiftly crumpled up the paper between his paws, the crinkling sound it made only irritating him more, growling as he threw it behind his head along with the broken pencil.
“OW! Haha, NARF!”
Brain’s ear perked up, looking behind his shoulders to find Pinky standing behind him, giggling as he rubbed his head where the pencil must have hit him, a dizzy set of stars circling his head before he shook his head to get rid of him.
“Whooo, that’s quite a throw you got there, Brain! Got me good!”
Pinky’s giggling soon died down to a simple smile, which itself soon thinned into a line of worry, taking in the litter of crumpled papers all around the two of them, and the terrible state that Brain was in.
“Egad, Brain… don’t you know how to clean up after yourself? Poit.” He murmured, stepping closer towards the shorter mouse and lightly kicking a discarded plan out of his way. “Not to mention those nasty dark circles around your eyes! You look like you haven’t slept a wink!”
When he said that, Pinky had leaned down to press one of his paws against Brain’s cheek, lightly rubbing his thumb under his eye, examining his heavy eye bags with an expression of concern.
“I’m more than capable of cleaning after myself, Pinky. It’s just that at this current moment I’m choosing not to waste my time with such meaningless tasks so I can keep my focus solely on perfecting my latest plan for world… domination…”
Brain’s words had started off angry and defensive, but soon they faded into a soft murmur, the warmth of Pinky’s paw caressing his cheek so gently, not to mention the way this thumb tenderly brushed just under his eye. He couldn’t help as his head leaned further into Pinky’s touch, a blissful sigh escaping his lips.
Pinky’s heart skipped a beat, the way Brain so easily melted against his paw, and that soft sigh that he’d expressed. “Gee, Brain. Are you feeling all okay inside that big ol’ head of yours??”
Brain hummed, looking up to that tired eyes met worried ones, and Brain chuckled softly, though it came across more as a sharp exhale, as he processed what Pinky just asked him
“Oh, I’m more than alright, my dear Pinky. How could I possibly not be when I have the most exceptional partner to help me with my plans? Not to mention just how… strangely alluring you appear to be right now.” .
“Zort!” Pinky exclaimed, his cheeks glowing a faint red at Brain’s unusually flirtatious words, taking his hand back from against the latter’s cheek, a timid whine coming from Brain in response. “Aww, well I have been working on my cardio! Of course, I do need to get plenty of rest after all of that. Hint hint nudge nudge, Brain. NARF!”
Brain seemed to ignore Pinky’s obvious attempt to try and persuade him to get some much needed rest, and instead he threw his arms around Pinky’s waist, holding him close.
A soft gasp bubbled in and out of Pinky’s throat, the gesture of Brain being the one to initiate a hug between the two of them was one that although unfamiliar to him, it was more than welcome. His entire fur tingled and stood up, and his body only increased in warmth once Brain nuzzled his cheek against his stomach, emitting a small, needy whine.
“Pinky… promise me you’ll stay with me even when I succeed in my plan for world conquest. There’s no one else I’d rather choose to rule this pitiful world by my side... Or at least stay by my side until I manage to think up a plan for tonight that isn’t utterly ridiculous.”
Pinky smiled, bending down to plant a soft kiss atop Brain’s head. Although Brain’s words were low and tired, the way he whispered them, sounding so vulnerable, and the way he buried his face into his chest, Pinky just knew there had to be some truth to them.
“I promise, Brain! TROZ! For the first part at least, I can’t let you go another moment without getting some sleep! I mean, egad, your fur is in tangles!”
Brain muttered something under his breath, but made no protest when Pinky effortlessly picked him up off the ground, hugging him tightly and carrying him back over to their shared sponge bed.
He sighed, eyes fluttering closed and ears pinning back in relaxation, the gift of sleep already beginning to creep into him just by being in the comfort of Pinky’s arms.
“I… sincerely appreciate everything you do for me, Pinky.”
The taller mouse’s mouth upturned at the corners, his voice kind and soothing.
“I love you too, Brain.”
