original copy of brain candy that bruce mcculloch let me keep ("i haven't looked at in years because it was just sitting in storage anyway, why not let you have it") from back when the title was still "the drug." very excited to look through this and see what other changes there are from the final version
For me, executive dysfunction works like... everyone else's brain dispenses one (1) piece of brain candy per task completed. But my brain's candy dispenser is a stingy bastard and rarely -- if ever -- doles out brain candy on the proper cue.
So, when they say "think of how GOOD it'll feel when you've finally finished That Task You're Putting Off :D!!!", that does nothing for me -- they're talking about bribing myself with the tastiness of the brain candy that I already know I won't get. And same goes for "You just need to exercise some Discipline/Buckle Down and do it" -- your model of "discipline"/"buckle-down" still has the brain candy as a key piece! You're telling me to power through and reach harder for brain candy that doesn't exist for me!
You might ask: what does my brain dispenser do, in lieu of giving out brain candies on a tidy per-task basis? It's not actually useless; it provides a trickle of Brain Pixy-Stix sugar, provided that I supply it with a suitable quantity of Not-Bored.
And what happens when the Not-Bored quantity is insufficient, you wonder? Welp. That's when the trickle of Brain Pixy-Stix shuts off, and the Bored-triggered brain sprinklers start spewing the Brain Itching Powder.
