EAST HAVEN'S 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT: THE WIND STORM

With the 1 year anniversary of East Haven's opening, we have decided to have an event that centers around a wind storm that is blowing it's way through town, inciting chaos where ever it goes. The event will start on January 5th at 12pm (noon) and end on January 15th at 12am (midnight). No new starters should be posted after January 10th.

You were placed into groups that are listed below. You will be expected to write with at least one character in that group that you normally do not write with. You are still free to do other threads with others in the group, but are required to at least one.

Participation for this event will be mandatory. Acceptances and checks will be held as usual. Reminder: Injuries need to be in by January 3rd*. You can find the form here. Details of this will be posted on the 5th.

Crimes That Shook Britain (North West)

Moors Murders Not just notorious in the UK, the name Ian Brady and Myra Hindley are synonymous with evil worldwide. In the 1960s the twisted couple tortured and violently murdered Pauline Reade, 16, John Kilbride, 12, Keith Bennett, 12, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, and Edward Evans, 17.

During their killing spree, Brady and Hindley posed for photos at the murder scenes and gravesites on Saddleworth Moor, near Manchester.

Both were convicted of multiple murders and sentenced to life. Hindley died behind bars in 2002, aged 60. She was so despised that 20 local undertakers refused to handle her body. Brady spent 19 years in standard prisons before being transferred to a high-security psychiatric hospital where he died in 2017 at the age of 79.

The Murders of PCs Bone and Hughes In November 2012, wanted killer Dale Cregan, 29, had made a hoax call to police. When PC Nicola Hughes, 23, and PC Fiona Bone, 32, attended, Cregan fired 32 bullets at them and launched a grenade before driving off. Both officers died.

In February 2013, Cregan admitted both murders at Preston Crown Court. He was given a whole life order, and also convicted of two other murders and three attempted murders.

Then-PM David Cameron honoured PC Bone and PC Hughes, calling their murders ‘an act of pure evil’.

Harold Shipman Britain’s most prolific serial killer, GP Harold Shipman, worked in The Hyde area of Manchester. In January 2000, he was found guilty of murdering 15 of his patients by lethal injection.

Sentenced to life, it was recommended he never be released. After the trial, an inquiry concluded Shipman had actually killed an estimated 250 victims.

Shipman killed himself in Wakefield Prison in January 2004, on the eve of his 58th birthday.

The Murder of James Bulger The unforgettable CCTV footage remains as chilling as it was back in 1993. Little James Bulger, 2, being led by the hand from The New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle, Liverpool, by the boys who’d go on to kill him.

Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, both 10, walked the tot for over two miles to railway tracks where they murdered him.

When James’ body was found, he had multiple skull fractures and other injuries that suggested he’d been hit with a metal bar and bricks, kicked and stamped on.

Thompson and Venables became Britain’s youngest convicted murderers in November 1993 for what the judge called ‘an act of unparalleled evil and barbarity’.

The Murder of Anthony Walker At 11pm on 29 July 2005, popular student Anthony Walker, 18, and his cousin walked his girlfriend to the bus stop in Huyton, Liverpool.

As they passed a pub, thug Michael Barton shouted racist abuse at the group, which they ignored. But later, Barton and his friend Paul Taylor ambushed the teenagers.

Anthony’s cousin and girlfriend escaped, while Anthony was killed by Taylor with a blow to the head from an ice axe. That December, Paul Taylor, 20, got 23 years for murder. Michael Barton, 17, got 17 years, reduced by a year in 2016.

Derrick Bird It was the UK’s worst mass shooting since the 1996 Dunblane massacre. In June 2010, taxi driver Derrick Bird, 52, left his home in Rowrah, Cumbria, drove to the home of David, his twin, and shot and killed him.

Then he drove to his family solicitor Kevin Commons’ home and shot him dead, too. His next victim was a fellow taxi driver. By now, police were hunting Bird and told residents of nearby towns to stay indoors. But by the time Bird’s body was found at 1:40pm, he’d killed 12 people and left 25 injured before shooting himself.

At an inquest into Derrick Bird’s death, a medical expert described him as ‘delusional and paranoid’. He’d apparently murdered his brother and solicitor believing they were in cahoots against him over a tax bill. He’d targeted his workmate over a jibe that’d been made over his personal hygiene.

But no one could ever offer a satisfactory explanation of this senseless, devastating crime.

I’m not really sure how this came to be, but certainly it is a highlight of wishing my work out into the world. 26 years ago in a crowd of many I could not take my eyes off a dancer at the Schemitzun Powwow and, I think for the first time in my life, approached a stranger to ask for a portrait. This is what we made together, “Tommy in His Car”. And now it is in this stunning new book, Our America, A Photographic History, by Ken Burns with an introduction by Sarah Hermanson Meister. Lúcia (Georgie Henley), Susana (Anna Popplewell), Edmundo (Skandar Keynes) e Pedro (William Moseley) são quatro irmãos que vivem na Inglaterra, em plena 2ª Guerra Mundial. Heartbreak for North End after late equaliser.

North End had two points snatched from their grasp in the ninety sixth and final minute of this entertaining encounter against Southampton at Deepdale. With just one last corner to defend we conceded in the cruelest way after a well fought game I thought we just about deserved to win. A goal down at the break we came roaring back after the interval and in spite of the Saints having plenty of the ball in the second half we looked like we had done enough to gain our first win in six, but it was not to be. This was a better performance by North End, much better, and once the shackles were off, after the break, we looked like a team that could be very dangerous. However it wasnt to be and North End miss the chance of going back to third in the Championship and remain fourth after thirteen games played.

Ryan Lowe made two changes from the side that drew with Millwall on Saturday with Alan Browne coming in for Ryan Ledson and Liam Millar returning at left wing back in place of Robbie Brady. North End started well and had a chance early on through Cunningham which came to nothing. Millar then had a half chance while at the other end Southampton were not really troubling the North End goal in the early stages. A couple of long range shots went begging for the home side before Walker-Peters cut in from the right hand side just after the half hour and curled a beautiful strike past Freddie Woodman. The Saints got on top for a short spell but North End had an absolute stonewall penalty turned down four minutes from the break when the ball was handled on the line in a goalmouth scramble. Unfortunately the very inept Mr Simpson and his assistants missed it and the visitors had escaped without punishment.

Just one change for North End at the break with Osmajic coming on to replace Frokjaer and the impact was almost instant. The big striker caused panic in the visitors defence straight from the off and with just six minutes gone in the second half he put North End level with a powerfully struck shot from outside the box. It was the home side who were now in the ascendancy and with the crowd behind them North End took the lead just three minutes later when Osmajic put Potts in down the right. The man of the match went on a superb run and fired past Bazunu to set Deepdale alight. North End were on top but the Saints still looked dangerous and Woodman needed to be at his best to keep them out. North End almost clinched the points with eight minutes to go when Osmajic just failed to reach a Millar cross. It proved to be a fatal miss and with ninety six minutes showing on the clock a corner from the left was inadvertently directed into his own goal by Ched Evans. It was cruel on North End and the deflation could be felt all around Deepdale.

So it wasn`t to be the first win in six games but North End were much better in this game. I am still not a great lover of our formation and you just think that a back four could possibly be the answer going forward. It is difficult to be too critical of North End in what was a decent game under the lights but we really do need to get that win to start to move us up that table again. I actually think North End have under achieved in these two home games and that confidence, or lack of it, is playing a big part. For now we can be reasonably pleased with the performance of the lads on the night and I just hope we can take that forward to Saturday when a trip to Hull City awaits us and hopefully that much sought after win.

Seattle Seahawks

Geno and the Seahawks were the "out of nowhere" team with a chip on thier shoulders. Geno became a top 15 QB with Russell Wilson exit. Pete Carroll has the same motto...run the ball down your throat and pop off on occasional down field play. The defense is a middle of the road but not pushover unit. The question on this team is 1. Can they build or match the success they had last year? 2. RB wise, is the rookie Charbonnet gonna be a thing once the inevitable Kenneth Walker injury comes around. Answering number 1, Lockett & DK still are low end WR 2 options. The issue is how consistent. For number 2, Ken Walker is already dealing with nagging injuries (go figure). The one absolutely constant in a sea of variables is Pete Caroll WILL run the ball heavy and often. By the way, the Hawks can still factor in this division with 49ers a clear 1st but the wildcard potential is intriguing.

Washington Commanders

Gotta update this logo. The commanders draft Howell. The defense you would think should have taken strides forward but as a whole, Chase Young and company have been largely average. TE Logan Thomas is back from injury and McLaurin is dealing with a toe issue. Unfortunately for him, if it's turf toe - it will effect him all season long. Jahan Dotson is the sneaky play on this offense but remember a rookie is at the helm. A plus is Eric Beinemy is a more than competent offensive coordinator that should get some juice out of this vanilla offense. Defensive head coach Ron Rivera now has a prodigy at the helm of scoring points. Results may come but slowly depending if Howell is the answer at QB.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence and the crew now have Calvin Ridley. A true number 1 WR to build upon a Cinderella type season with Kirk serving as #1. Kirk should still be considered but Calvin will eat trust. Etienne is the guy. Though Tank Bisby may have more of share as the season progresses. I anticipate Jags to be a playoff team despite the defense plateau. Doug Pederson should have this team rolling. Evan at TE and Zay Jones as WR3 on this team will be the roster depth you will count on once injuries and bye weeks come into play.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs have fell into obscurity but don't tell them that. Brady retired is a void but the team, as a whole, is largely intact. Godwin and Evans as a WR duo are still viable. Issue will be Bakers consistency play or lack thereof. May-Bay has more options than he has ever had in two tiered WRs at his disposal. What he can do with it is up to him. Cade Otton is the clear #1 TE and Rashaad White has his chance to prove if he deserves a starting role at RB. Todd Bowles has this defense coming back to prominence- just need them healthy to keep the ship in route. Godwin is more of a route WR that Baker is accustomed to but with Evans jump ball ability (in the redzone or sideline) can be utilized if Baker can hone in. Bucs could be in the thick of the NFC South race IF they build upon thier week 1 victory.

Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles should be the class of the NFC given how weak it is as a conference compared to the swath in AFC. Besides 49ers and Eagles, there aren't much more true contenders for the Superbowl (unless Lions show out). The defense even added players smh. The addition of Swift didn't show in week 1 but as of this writing the beginning of Week 2 blew that out the water in his hometown debut for the team. Penny wasn't a factor. Gainwell injury won't matter as much because of their depth. AJ Brown is the alpha but Devonte may squash that narrative. His week 2 explosion is threatening AJs alpha status. Goedert is finally on the board after a week 1 goose egg. Slow and steady he goes. Elliot missed a kick which is rare but still a decent option at Kicker. It will take a few weeks for this team dynamics to show its hand on the RB front. Cowboys may come for the division but Philly is looking beyond because even at a wildcard, Hurts and crew will win despite thier own errors.

San Francisco 49ers

Another superbowl pick on the NFC side, they never admitted their draft mistake In Trey Lance, but thier backing of Mr Irrelevant Brock Purdy is similar a Tom Brady come up. He is backed 💯 Kittle ✔️ Aiyuk ✔️ Deebo ✔️ CMC ✔️ Defense ✔️ Head coach ✔️ Kicker (Moody)✔️ The whole dam team ✅️

Minnesota Vikings

Cousins again is pouring 🫗 points .... probably as the biggest bench warmer in shallow league ls who decided not to play him. Even in losing efforts, Kirk is throwing massive yards and TDs. The vikings D is gonna go thru growing pains as Flores implements his scheme in his coordinator debut for the. Thus, the offense will have pressure to win games. Cook out to the Jets left Mattison in play as the lead. He lead nowhere unfortunately. He is a flex play at best. Jefferson is gonna feast as he usually does. Addison is the great pick up for whoever has him. The rookie paired with Jefferson may be one of the few duos that could both be number ones on their team fantasy wise. Hockenson is garnering even more so in terms of looks. The passing game is where it's at cuz of the air yards distribution. I wouldn't bet on them for division. I put more stock in Jordan love and such because of coaching even with Vikes having better talent offensively. That's because Packers at least have Defense in the back pocket.

Green Bay Packers

Speaking of Packers. The Defense I alluded to in the Vikings recap is what separates then in the division. Only the Lions have a shot to outmatch. An era is gone now A Rod out of town. Love like Rodgers and Farve before him sat behind the starter to learn. Can GB make it a trifecta? Aaron Jones killed as per usual but is on the injury block. AJ Dillon is is I guess for week 2. Cobb and Lazard left leaving Doubs & Watson. That would be okay but Watson may be dealing with an injury that might plague him a good chuck of the season. Rookie TE Luke and a new kicker are pieces we have to see will work out (no more Crosby...was there so long). Expect LaFleur having this team in thick of things.

Kansas City Chiefs

It's the Chiefs. The only concern is Sky Moore, Toney and Rache and what thier roles are in this offense after Kelce. Pacheco is an afterthought but still the lead. Hey it's something. Mahomes should get his and now with Chris Jones signing back with the team, the defense can be viable as a bye week add. Butker if anything is a choice for kicker as well given the teams offensive output. Will they defend thier Lombardi?

Denver Broncos

Hackett out and HOF Sean Payton is in. Can he fix Russell? Can the injuries stop piling up? Will Juedy live up to expectations? Is Sutton a real deal or a sham? Will the defense come to form against offensive powerhouses in thier division? Is Trautman going to overtake the TE position with Greg D out? Loads of questions 🤔 This is a wait n see team.
