Lacoste est la seule firme qui détienne en propre le savoir-faire des deux branches complémentaires du casual, le casual-sport et le casual-chic, totalité que les italiens et les anglo-américains maîtrisent de manière parcellaire. En effet un client a le choix entre le vêtement de sport italien de Sergio Tacchini, Fila, Ellesse, Diadora, CP Company… ou le style anglais smart de Fred Perry, Hackett, Ben Sherman, Barbour, Aquascutum, Hilfiger et Façonnable. Mais c’est l’un ou l’autre. Ellesse ne produit pas d’imperméables et Barbour ne produit pas de survêtement. Cette continuité du casual n’est disponible que chez Lacoste dont le catalogue couvre l’intégralité du spectre casual. On pourra objecter que Fred Perry couvre aussi tout le panel, du survêtement au butcher coat. Vrai. Toutefois la marque Fred Perry, issue du mouvement skin, très ancrée dans les sous-cultures du rock, n’a jamais réussi à englober les nouveaux publics rap émergeant à partir des années 90. Seul Lacoste a su le faire et vendre tant à Dave Hewitson qu’à Clint Eastwood, à Damon Albarn qu’à Arsenik, mais encore à Jacques Chirac, à Richard Nixon, à Michel Audiard, à Hunter S. Thompson, à Dominique Venner, Marcel Bigeard, Lino Ventura, Bourvil, Liam Gallagher… En 1995, on pouvait voir les fameux survêtements portés tant par les personnages du film La Haine que par Jean-Marie Le Pen.

Lacoste est porté par des notaires et par des dealers, par des hipsters et par des hooligans, par des yuppies et des tradis, par des enfants et des patriarches. Lacoste est plébiscité dans le monde mais sous-évalué dans son propre pays, paradoxe typique d’une universalité toute française dont d’autres gloires nationales ont souffert dans le passé : la diplomatie parallèle de Philippe Berthelot, les intuitions algébriques de Poincaré, les principes économiques de Frédéric Bastiat et de Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, les trucages graphiques de Georges Méliès… nul n’est prophète en son pays.

Like most movie-lovers whose knowledge of film extends beyond "Hollywood," I was familiar with Jean Gabin, but although I had encountered the name, I didn't know Bourvil, celebrated in France but not so much on this side of the Atlantic. Which made it difficult for me at first to capture the tone and humor of La Traversée de Paris, a film also known as Four Bags Full, The Crossing of Paris, The Trip Across Paris, and Pig Across Paris. Since the film begins with newsreel footage of German troops occupying Paris in 1942, it strikes a more serious tone than it eventually takes. Marcel Martin (Bourvil) is a black market smuggler tasked with carrying meat from a pig that's slaughtered at the beginning of the movie while he plays loud music on an accordion to cover its squeals. He's responsible for transporting two suitcases filled with pork across the city to Montmartre, but when the other smuggler fails to show up, he has to accept the aid of a stranger, Grandgil (Gabin), who agrees to carry the other two valises. Grandgil, however, wants the butcher, Jambier (Louis de Funès), to pay much more than the originally agreed-upon amount for his services, and blackmails him into accepting, to the consternation of Martin. The task is perilous, given the vigilance of the French police and the German occupying troops, so the film wavers between thriller and comedy -- the latter particularly when some stray dogs pick up the scent of what's in the suitcases. It ends up being a fascinating tale of the odd-couple relationship between Grandgil and Martin, as well as a picture of what Parisians went through during the occupation. It was controversial when it was released because it takes a warts-and-all look at black-marketeers and the Résistance, downplaying the heroism without denying the genuine risks they took. Eventually, Grandgil and Martin are caught by the Germans, but Grandgil is released because the officer in charge recognizes him as a famous artist. Martin is sent to prison, but the two are reunited after the war when Grandgil recognizes him at a train station as the porter carrying his luggage -- a rather obvious, and somewhat sour, bit of irony.

La grande frousse (Большой испуг) (Город великого страха)

. Екранізація роману Жана Рея "Місто великого страху" (мого улюбленого твору автора).

З пісні на початку фільму "Він хороший хлопець з ніжним серцем, але з'являється Трике, смерть слідує за ним по п'ятах, а він сміється їй в обличчя".

Комедійне прочитання чудового роману. Інспектор-недотепа розкриє таємницю, що виявилася не по зубах материм професіоналам.

Мокі не зумів, або не збирався передати атмосферу страху, властиву роману Рея (яке він (роман) враження справив 1990 року, коли друкувався у "Зміні"). Тут скоріше комедійний трилер та бурлеск. Якщо точніше, Мокі показав як за допомогою страху можна управляти життям цілого міста.

Це, звичайно, не німецька серія "по Уоллесу", але по атмосфері більш-менш схожий продукт. Хороший і досить цікавий, але все ж таки сильно відрізняється від першоджерела.

Рідкісна можливість побачити Бурвіля в ролі поліцейського.

Хороший фільм, що сильно програє роману і істотно від нього відрізняється.
