"The survivors, all those people out there…No one cares about you. You know who they care about? Who they raise toasts to and give thanks to? Prince Link. They believe he died sealing the Calamity away, doing what you couldn’t. You are remembered as the monster who abused Hyrule’s real saviour. You are remembered as a failure. As a queen who sat on a throne of blood and ash; the blood of her people.”
Lianna stared at her. Ghosts couldn’t turn pale, but the light and flames around her dimmed. She looked shaken. Perhaps just shocked that Zelda would dare speak to her like this.
“Urbosa told me, once, that you were hollow,” Zelda said. “I agreed. You were hollow. You were small. You were cruel. You were empty.”
*
Zelda confronts Queen Lianna's ghost. With fresh memories and one hundred years of resentment aching to burst through, Zelda finally snaps.

A redraw of the Dragon Of Time from my TOTK Zelink role swap fanfic “Twist In Time and Fate” by Hopelessly_Confused!!! The original was done on paper with limited colors so I felt I needed to redraw it.
The fic itself is still on hiatus as I cannot for the life of me get myself to write anything at the moment. I’m very sorry for it.
Please go read what I do have finished though, I’m trying to get back into it so anyone who is waiting can read it again soon.
Without mood lighting version and original under the cut!

"What's Mine is Yours"
A Pre-Calamity, Sci-Fi, Bodyswap Zelink One-Shot
Zelda shook her head, blinking furiously. As she looked down into Link's eyes, her blue eyes grew wide in alarm. “What in the name of Hylia… ” she whispered, bringing a hand to her lips. Link gasped, throwing his hands up to look at them, green eyes trying to focus on his slender, delicate fingers. “Whaa–?” Link's eyes shot up to Zelda, only to find her frantically feeling all over her chest like she was missing something. “Link…?” She scrambled back and struggled to stand, losing her balance. “Zelda? What– what's going on…?” Link stood, feeling around his slim waist and full hips, sliding his hands along his arms. Suddenly, their eyes snapped to one another in horrifying realization. “Oh, shit .” Link whispered.

巛—𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗪 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞—⫸
[[ knight !reader x royal !link scenarios ]]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you've been assigned to him for as long as you could remember. people have observed your bond, and it's quite obvious that you're the only reasonable match— the only one he's willing to let take care of him. you wouldn't want to change that fact either, but taking care of link comes with an unfathomable amount of responsibility. such as...
★ "put down that damn frog!"
you're the closest you've ever been to a heart attack at this point. taking the prince out on a voyage where there were monsters lurking about was the last thing you had wanted to do, but unable to resist his insistent, silent pouting, you couldn't exactly denyhim what he wanted.
he's cute when he's curious, which is everyday. you let him roam around with his large observational book, studying and taking notice of whatever shroom or flower was blooming by whatever random tree.
speaking of a tree, you figured to set up a small campsite under a large tree not too far away from the castle. there was a fire going in a pot, and the boy had been throwing random food stuff inside and hoping for the best dish to come from it. you watch with a soft smile— that is, until it deflates as you spot a few bokoblins a little too close and sigh, standing up.
"Stay here." you mumble softly, to which the boy smiles and nods, eyes glued to the way you reach up to grip the handle of your sword, pulling it up and out of its sheathe.
yoi don't take long— really you don't. the bokoblin type was blue, more than easy to take down. you don't even break a sweat until you begin walking back to the tree, only to feel your breath hitch and your heart stop. that damn monster of curiosity (or, link) was holding a poor frog over the pot, probably more than ready to drop it in for Hylia knows what.
your shouting startles the boy, making him go wide-eyed and sheepish as you storm up to him. you take a second to glare before snatching the creature from his hands and setting it back into the small body of water that he was most likely snatched from.
"seriously? I was gone for five minutes." you protest.
his face goes expressive,
'it's for science!' he signs
"I know, link... you always say that." you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose, opening your eyes to see him flipping frantically through his research book before holding it open, shoving the open page in your face.
a silly healing elixir that he had been mentioning non-stop. it was probably the reason he was so adamant about tagging along.
"yes, my liege, I know about the elixir. but if you want it so bad, why don't you just simply buy one?" you suggest, exhaustion in your voice.
his face scrunches in disgust at the idea, throwing the book down before signing again,
'too far. want to experience creating it on my own'
you look from his hands to his face, being met with his saddened eyes. if he were anyone else...
"fine..." you mumble, to which he silently celebrates, "just, not in front of me, please?"
'thank you.' he steps closer, and you smile.
'no problem'. you sign back.
* * *
★ "please be careful, my liege." you voice to the blonde prince.
he'd gladly tell you that he was fine if his hands weren't currently full. if anyone else saw how you and link interacted outside of the castle, you're sure you'd be killed for your crimes.
maybe it wasn't a good idea to let the prince of hyrule use your sword and swing it around however he pleased, but in your professional opinion— he's a natural.
"you're doing great!" you smile, shaking your head as he was caught up in his own little world. and he really was. so great that he couldn't heat a word you said. holding a weapon just felt so natural to him, and he absolutely loved it when you offered it up for him to use during leisure time.
his swings are heavy and lethal, but it's obvious to you that he isn't pacing himself. the movements are so natural that he doesn't even comprehend the strain it's putting on his body— not until his swing is stopped.
link looks down at his tightened grasp on the handle, but looseness it as he realizes that you had caught his wrist. his disgruntled expression softens significantly as he looks up at you in awe and embarrassment as you hold his wrists with one hand, and remove the handle the handle from his grip with the other.
"that's enough," tour voice rings through his head as you chuck the sword to the side, face growing serious as you keep holding his wrists, "you alright?"
he can't respond with occupied hands, and so he nods, heart pounding at your serious expression. he wonders what he's done wrong, or what should be wrong, until he begins to feel an ache in his back and shoulders, making him wince. you notice.
"I know that feeling... it's why I stopped you." you explain whilst removing your hands from him. "you're good, but you're straining yourself. you're not fit for that type of intensity."
he mouths a small 'oh', and you sigh, frowning as he rubs his aching shoulder.
"it's alright... I've got something to heal you right up."
the male smiles softly, nodding in appreciation. you were always taking care of him like this. but your encouragement for him to get a little rough and rowdy is why he liked you so much. though you wanted him safe, you weren't constantly sheltering him. he hated that.
he taps your shoulder, to which you turn to him,
'sorry.'
you smile and shake your head, "don't apologize. you did really good my liege. wonder what you'd be like as a knight, actually." you chuckle.
he smiles back, letting the butterflies float around in his tummy.
* * *
★ "what do you think you're doing?"
you felt like you've done this... a lot. for the umpteenth time, you've caught the prince walking around the castle grounds, barefoot, and draped in a softened blanket as he attempts to protect himself from the nighttime breeze.
the look he gives you is one of disappointment as he thinks you're going to take him back inside, but he's pleasantly surprised when you shake your head and simply rest a hand on his shoulder, guiding him forward.
"Don't worry...I'll sit with you."
he smiles, clutching the blanket tighter. beyond the wall, he can spot the swaying of the grass, the wispyness of the clouds in the deep blue sky, and the stillness of the ancient guardians that settled into the ground. he truly loves his kingdom, and you can see it true. he walks until he reaches a spot that makes it easy to see the vast land and takes a seat on the edge of the castle walls.
"this is nice..." you sigh as you sit beside him
he nods, and your eyes glance over to him incase he's ready to talk back. and he does:
'I think I enjoy nighttime the best.' he signs, glancing between you and the beautiful view amongst him, 'sometimes, i think about running. I want to explore.'
you heart aches
"I know, my liege... I'm sorry you feel trapped." you whisper
to your surprise, he laughs softly, shaking his head, 'not trapped... just hidden potential'
you smile. such a purse and positive response. his head turns to face you, eyes so blue that you can't help but observe them thoroughly. he scoots closer beside you, careful, as to not fall, and rest his head on your shoulder.
"I think..." you wrap his blanket around him tighter, "I think we were definitely meant to be this way, my liege." you whisper, and watch as his eyes flutter shut
but not before he nods in agreement, and your heart tate spikes at what he says next.
his hands don't communicate, no. nit this time. instead, you're blessed with a sound ao angelic, so soft that you'd dread if you accidentally missed it.
"I think so too..." he whispers.

Story Idea: “The Silenced Prince”
Had a hit of inspiration lightning to the brain.
Was just re-reading “A Twist of Fate” by Mysterious_Prophetess, and started thinking about how “The Silent Prince” by Seren_Knight01 goes too.
Instead of the role swap being about a “Silent Prince”, especially when usually he’s not as silent in those stories as one would think since Zelda’s already in the picture by that point (not that I mind, hell no!), I’m thinking of how it’d be that it’s “The Silenced Prince”.
Be warned, this specific Role Swap idea is meant to have implications that aren’t true but certain characters think are until it’s (almost) too late depending on how one wants to finish the story.
Now such a premise is inspired by the mystery about how in BotW no one knows what caused Link to get a hold of the Master Sword. Just that he ‘found’ it when he was thirteen - at least that’s what I’ve read from others who’ve bought and read “Making a Champion”. So I was thinking, Prince Lincoln (Link for short) is trying to go draw the Sword but his father, after confronting Link’s constant attempts to go into the Lost Woods when before he hadn’t, isn’t letting him by making sure he can’t by keeping him imprisoned and seen by practically no one. Not because he wants Hyrule to burn but because he doesn’t understand about the connection between the Goddess and Her Hero from when Hyrule was first founded. He’s of the opinion, not helped by the honey-poisoned words of the prophet Astor, that Link is sick in the head now that he’s going through puberty and experiencing those urges. That Link wants the Sword as ‘proof’ he’s the Hero so that he can bed his own sister because she’s meant to be the Goddess Incarnate of their age.
But she’s not. Zelda is.
But the King doesn’t know such a thing is or could be possible. Only ever hearing that the Evil was fought back with the Power of the Princess and the Hero of their age. Because the few that had it as the Prince has long since been lost or destroyed or thought to be a fairy tale.
Link is adamant on getting his Sword but the King won’t have it even though Link is just as adamant that while he loves his sister he doesn’t love her like that, would never see her like that. Link knows The One for him isn’t even in the Castle right now, though he can’t say how he knows that, but the King isn’t listening. Astor ‘divining’ to him that Link’s lying so that he can get away, that he’ll try to find someone to make him a ‘fake’ Sword with their skills before killing them to keep it a ‘secret to everybody’, and it’s not like they could simply kill him off because it would look like the Castle can’t protect its inhabitants. How the people would panic, not to mention the Princess! Unfortunately, the King sees no other recourse than to find some Sheikah that are zealous in keeping ‘the Goddess Incarnate’ safe. Astor gives some recommendations of his own. After all, Impa can’t because she’s friends with his son in a way she can’t be with his daughter due to who she’s meant to be, not to mention she’s also the Royal Advisor. The two lead Scientists are useless too because they’re academics not strong warriors, not to mention busy with finding the various Guardian type caches and getting all the Guardians and Divine Beasts they have already found functional, which would be needed to subdue his son if ever he slipped his bonds. Once chosen, he swears said ‘Sheikah’ to secrecy on what they’re doing and lets them speculate on why since he’s not gonna confess to his son’s perversion regarding his sister, his precious baby girl whose strangely brown-threaded green colored magic causes plants to grow and/or turn toward her when she plays various tunes on the ocarina her brother made her for her birthday. The Prince is locked away. Rumors abound that he’s mad, that he thinks himself something he’s not, strangely though none of them make mention of the word ‘Hero’, (Astor had warned that the King would rather kill his son himself than let anyone think, even as a joke, he should let his son try for the Sword because what if? The horror and disgust... Would he have to let Link...? No! Just... no! In such a case, it’d be better for the Hero to reincarnate than think of what traumas his baby girl would go through spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally because of some sick twist in Destiny’s tapestry regarding the Goddess and Her Hero) but the King and Princess love him too much to just let him be put down like a dog. He was still the Prince after all, “cursed as being a Prince of Hyrule is” some people say because they remember reading about the story of the Legendary Sleeping Princess, even though he wouldn’t be inheriting the Throne. That he needs to be gagged so he doesn’t chew his tongue off in his madness. In all actuality, the gag’s a special device that helps to feed him specially made potions that keeps him docile, an especially potent dose given when he’s being taken to be cleaned or use the bathroom, while also making sure he doesn’t starve or dehydrate to death. (Can’t give the Hero a chance to reincarnate can they? Not until it was too late. And hopefully by then they’d have figured out how to stop it to make sure His reign lasts forever. Kekeke.) Soon enough, people don’t speak of the Prince at all, act like he’s already dead, because it upset the Princess. That her beloved brother had been destined to go mad because he was a man of their blood while she was destined to save their land for being a woman of their blood. Fortunately, the Hero is always made stronger than others, made of sterner stuff. It’s through Fi’s connection to her master that she’s able to direct key ingredients of the potions introduced to his system courtesy of the ‘Sheikah’ looking after him to keep her master from atrophying or languishing in his confined isolation. (Said ‘Sheikah’ getting a lil’ freaked out because he seems to be keeping or even building muscle instead of losing it even though he’s shackled to the wall unless taken to the bathroom.) Fi’s connection to the Goddess also lets her send him dreams of Her Grace to keep his spirit fighting and hopeful. After all he’s once gone through this Before, even though it’s been so long, so many lives, since it happened. Zelda on the other hand is taught by her mother the basics of magic. Neither of them commenting on the golden color hers takes because ‘magic comes out in all sorts of colors’, it’s just that she has it that matters. It is Zelda herself who experiments with what she can do with her powers, even after her mother dies. She can make her own type of bomb by inscribing a round ball with a spell to keep the ingredients within from reacting until said ball has broken open, and keeping said ball from breaking accidentally by putting in a pin that needs to be pinched and a bit of force used to be pulled away (Hyrule’s version of a grenade). She can conjure chains that can keep something immobile for a short time depending on how strong it is. She can inscribe a spell into a tooth brace/cover to Seal harmful substances within it before getting rid of it. (she learned the hard way to find something else when using that spell when the tooth she originally inscribed ached something fierce, it had since rotted black due to her experiments, until it was pulled out, she wasn’t going to lose all her teeth just to keep herself safe) She starts getting upsetting dreams around her twelfth birthday that she can’t explain. For sometimes the young man, a teenager who steadily grows into an adult as she does, she sees chained to the wall within is a lot older, at least in his thirties if not late twenties. What’s more is she just knows he’s the same person, strange as that claim is. The young man always seems gagged while the older one isn’t. The young one has wheat gold hair while the older one has hair so blond as to look white or even silver. The young one’s legs look fine but the older one’s don’t. She doesn’t know what it means when she once dreamed that she asked the older one if he would fight while presenting him a Sword she felt was so familiar but that she’s never seen before. (In case no one realizes, I’m taking liberties regarding the SS prequel manga that can be found within Hyrule Historia) She’s so embarrassed about the few dreams she has of the older one who seems to be making love to her! Why was it never the one who looks closer to her own age doing that?! Goodness! But no matter what type of dream she has of him, whether he’s older or younger, she sees his eyes are a determined blue that she sees gaze at her with such devotion and adoration and love she felt she might be or could turn into a Goddess if such blasphemy would not get her smote should she speak that aloud.
And then she’s found to have quite the affinity for the Ancient Sheikah Tech. It’s Purah who brings her to the Castle to help bring in the money for her sick Father while her father’s other loved ones take care of him for her. It’s while residing in the Castle that she starts hearing something she couldn’t describe without sounding crazy. Was it a heartbeat, one which ‘felt’ for lack of a better word familiar, that strangely sounded like it was crying out for help? Was it a melody, she’d swear they were words if she were feeling illogical, that was calling her to follow? No one else seems to hear either type of sound, not even the Princess. It’s after one of her dreams of making love with that man that she takes a walk to get rid of her restless energy. The melody somehow guiding her to a secret passage that is choked with dust. It obviously hadn’t been opened in a long while. Hmm... Where was she going to find herself if she used it? What was she going to find at the end of it? The melody that had called her to follow had since turned into the heartbeat that called for help. What would be the consequences? Well, only one way to find out.
I don’t know how this one would end. Just... had to get it out there and hope someone is inspired. One doesn’t have to use the idea wholesale if they want to use it or feel they have a better way to do it. I’d just like to ask for credit for the inspiration if you wish to try making something of it.

Zelda had long since been a knight of Hyrule, a personal escort to the crown prince with a sacred sealing power—or so it had felt like, though not in a bad way—and if there was anything she’d learned from her stretch of months by his side, it was that Link Hyrule was a man of few words; his hands did the trick instead, always moving fluently through the Hyrulean Sign he knew by heart.
Even now, his hands were moving, and he was the most expressive she’d ever seen him as he explained just why the Silent Princess flowers were so special: a rare species endangered by the Hylian population when they pick it for its beauty, and though several have tried to grow it in captivity—including Link himself.
His hands freeze; before she can even ask what had happened, her hand moving for the sword beyond her shoulder, Link had sprung forwards in the grass just besides her, and when he sat back up, his eyes were shining and the captive in his hands had him grinning: a hot footed frog.
Zelda laughed, tilting her head, and he leaned closer with a smile turned mischievous, pushing the frog into her space—eat it.
When she retched and shoved his hands away, he laughed; he had a smile like the sun.

Love the idea of a role swap botw AU badass zelda, soft prince link. IT'S GREAT. BUT! Role swap AU without the triforce swapped. Badass knight zelda isn't supposed to fight the evil and just use magic to seal the evil. What? A knight using magic? Yet she's facinated with it. Prince Link has to learn how to use a sword and be a hero? Awesome! Cool! How do you do that? It's a Role swap but not necessarily personality swap.
The night breeze is cool from ontop the castle roof. The stars shine the same as always, with the dim of the few lanterns lit from Castle Town blocking some of their true shine. And Link can't help but think of how similar they are to him. The very town he's destined to rule over dims his true shine just a bit. He clenches the sword in his hands.
"This is who I'm meant to be, my ticket out of these loathsome castle walls. Where it'll be only me and the stars will be my guild." He whispers into the night.
He stands up looking at the night sky, ready to head in before any of the guards catch him again. He takes a step to head back inside. This adventure is sure to be a dangerous one, but it's all he's ever dreamed.
Thunk!
Now the Prince of Hyrule has found himself holding on to the edge of his bedroom roof, legs dangling off the side because he has once again, forgotten about the loose shingle.
"Prince Link what are you doing up there!" Comes the horrified yell of his personal Knight Zelda.
"Oh, you know, just slipping on the shippity sluggy shingle AGAIN!"
"Don't worry I'm here to save you!" She starts to climb out of her own bedroom window, right below Link's study, to get the bridge that connects his bedroom and study.
"Shhhhhhhhh, you'll wake the whole guard," Link's already hoisted one leg up on the roof again.
"Why shouldn't I, the prince is in danger?" She climbs up to the bridge by now.
"Because the last time this happened my father said he'd take away my midnight rock roast if I did it again." Link almost sounds as if he's about to cry, maybe he was, just a little bit, but he'd never admit it to anyone.
"Pardon me for speaking out of formality but, my dear prince, why are you so stupid?"

Reports of flooding in Lanayru. Hurricanes at Lurelin. More monsters in Faron Woods. More monsters and snow storms in Hebra. Lynels working in groups with other monsters. Tremors at Kakariko. Similar tremors at Akkala.
There was more. It went on and on.
She looked at the Prince, at the dark circles under his eyes and blurted out, “Are you still having nightmares?”
He looked surprised that she’d remembered such a thing. She could have bitten her own tongue for overstepping in such a manner- except they were friends now, weren’t they? Sort of. Since the Yiga attack, Prince Link had thawed, more like his usual self.
Link sighed again and hooked the slate back to his belt.
I’m always having nightmares, he signed.
Zelda couldn’t quite shake the feeling that was an omen too.

Princess For a Day
AO3 A silly little idea I had about Zelda and Link swapping roles— but only for a day. It admittedly turned out more serious than it was meant to. Oops.
Green eyes peered at Link from above clasped hands.
“Please?”
He felt his face stiffening in a desperate attempt to maintain its expressionlessness. But what could he say contrary, really, with those eyes staring at him?
With the Princess begging him to?
Link sighed. “Alright. I’ll take your place as princess for a day.”
-
The Sword that Seals the Darkness.
For the grand purpose of the weapon, it looked relatively simple. In fact, the Royal Claymores that she often saw knights wield were considerably more ostentatious— and those were hardly for decoration, either.
But it was fitting, in a way, that it was simple. Enough detail to look elegant, but nothing more than to make it clear what it was, what its purpose was. And wasn’t it fitting, that much like the Hero, the Goddess would use something simple to complete her purposes?
Zelda smiled at the thought as she observed the weapon now in her grasp. The Sword and the Hero were easy to understand. If only her own power were as well.
A shuffling sound drew her attention, and she resheathed the sword as she looked towards the source.
Link.
A smile crept on her lips as she saw him wearing her prayer dress and all the golden accessories that went along with it. Zelda had known it would look good on him, but she hadn’t expected just how good it would look on him. Clinging to his chest, showing off all the muscles he had built up in his sword training. The flowing part hid everything from the waist downward until it stopped at his calves, where the sandal straps wrapping around his legs only accentuated the curve and solidness of those muscles. Of course, even the overall femininity of the outfit suited him, with a face like he had, so delicate. And his hair was down for once, which was nice.
And of course, as always, his eyes were the bluest shade of anything you could ever see or even imagine.
Wait. His eyes.
His eyes.
She could see his eyes so clearly because he was looking right back at her. Zelda shook herself back out of the trance she always seemed to go into whenever she looked into those eyes.
She felt her face heat up with a blush at being caught staring… well, not that he necessarily realized she was staring, but it had the same effect on her nonetheless. She glanced away with just enough time to see that he had also blushed and looked away from her.
“Does it look strange?” Link asked. “Wearing a dress even though I’m a man?”
“No!” Zelda exclaimed, turning to look back at him. Not that it was that difficult thing to do— she really did enjoy the sight. “It looks really really good on you, in fact. It is a little strange to see you wearing my dress… but in a good way.”
He looked up at her, then down again, embarrassedly rubbing the back of his neck, before muttering so quietly that she almost missed it. “How do you think I feel seeing you in that tunic?”
Zelda felt her ears burn at that, and she looked down as she fiddled with the edge of— indeed, the Champion’s Tunic.
If Link at all liked her the way she acknowledged only to herself that she liked him, then she couldn’t blame him for enjoying as well as being a little bit nervous about seeing her in his clothes. And now that she thought about it, it was thrilling in a way to know that she was wearing her crush’s tunic.
The sun crept in through the western-facing windows of the cathedral.
“Time for you to begin your prayers,” Zelda said surprisingly calmly. “Princess.”
“Watch over me as always,” Link responded respectfully as ever. “Hero.”
She turned so that she was at a ninety-degree angle from him, as he always did. Not that she could effectively keep her eyes open for threats the way he always did. Partially because she wasn’t trained to do so, but more because she couldn’t keep her eyes off of him, to his waist in the water, head bowed and hands clasped, softly and quite devotedly speaking the prayer that she usually did every single day.
Zelda had no idea how they had managed to get away with this. But the power would not come today, if only because it was not the actual princess saying the prayers for once. And it felt hopeless, watching over Link as he prayed for a power that would not come.
Is that how he felt every single day as he watched over her? The power had never come to her, either. Did he feel like it was pointless, hopeless that she kept praying. Maybe it might have felt more possible at the springs, but…
There was only one spring left to go to. And her birthday was quickly approaching. And if nothing happened there…
Well, the Princess certainly had a lot of worries. But at least for today, Zelda didn’t have to be a Princess for a day.

"The Minstrel and the Prince"
A Zelink Week Fanfiction for @zelinkcommunity
“What if this was the real me?” He began to move their dancing closer to the edge of the large open area. “Would it make you happier?” He spun her out, stretching their arms taught, fingers clinging to the others so as not to separate, and then whirled her back in, spinning, until she was coiled up inside his arms, her face so close he could feel her breath on his lips. She let out a keening sort of sigh as her chest hit his, and a switch flipped in his mind. His eyes grew wide, and he walked them backward until his back hit a tree, and he stopped with a grunt.
“I–I was happy with who you were when I met you,” her eyes searched his. “This side of you is not unwelcome, and I rather cherished you for who you were before,” she confessed, still a breath away from his lips.

The fic is now complete and available on Ao3! I had so much fun writing this!
Start from the beginning here!
