Happy release day to The Half Class by Kayvion Lewis! 😊 Isn’t the cover gorgeous? Published by The Parliament House Press, The Half Class is filled with young adult fantasy themes. ✨Also the first book in The Class Chronicles! Read the blurb below and check out @kayvionlewis and @parliamentbooks for more info! πŸ’œ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ ❀︎ BLURB ❀︎ By day, Evie is an outcast, a half-class. Too dark for the illustrious light class, and too fair for the lowly dark class, she is forced to walk the edge of the street with her head down and her paperwork ready. πŸ‘€ By night, she rebels, burning down municipal buildings and raiding shops with her fellow half-classes by her side. It’s a dangerous life, but it’s simpleβ€”or it used to be. When Prince Cass walks into her aunt’s brothel, life becomes more complicated. Evie and the prince inadvertently hit it off, and her fellow rebels see a golden opportunity. Having a girl near the prince is the perfect way to find out exactly what the king is planning for the half-class. And unfortunately for Evie, that girl is her.😢 Day by day, Evie grows closer to Prince Cass, who’s far more charming than he should be, while the rebels use her information to strike back against his father. But the half-classes are turning ravenous in their retaliation.✊ Soon, they'll want bloodβ€”the blood of someone Evie might be starting to love.❀️ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ Book Challenges: β€’ Familiar by @morrighanrose #bookstawitchery β€’ Royal reads by @inkand.imagination #sixofcrowssep21 β€’ Funny characters by @exclusively_bookish #exclusivelybookishpixar β€’ Makes me Happy by @littlemissstar55 #lmsseptember2021 β€’ YA Book, New Release and set in a school by @booknooknerd84 #booknookbingo ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ ΒΊ #youngadult #fiction #series #fantasy #newrelease #thehalfclass #kayvionlewis #ebook #ereader #youngadultfantasyreads #parliamentbooks #literarylumanati #theparliamenthousepress #bookseries #darkcover #coverlove https://www.instagram.com/p/CUXZu_eP_8W/?utm_medium=tumblr

QTOD: What's your favorite book-length? I love the typical mid-size book. Maybe 300-400 pages? (I'm not sure, I don't usually pay attention to page count). But anything smaller than that seems a little short and anything over that scares me. Not going to lie, I'm seriously intimidated by big books. I like them, don't get me wrong. But I'm so afraid of them. Especially the books that are already taller than others, like The Last Magician, for example. Couple that with a high page count and you can bet I'll procrastinate with reading it. Are you ever intimidated by big books? β€” [Image description: Photos of the book, The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell, on a fluffy blanket with a cup of (now cold) tea.] . . . βš”οΈ challenges #MyFictionalMusings [historical fiction] #CozyAsCanBee [favorite genre] #BookstaWitchery [warm drinks] . #TheLastMagician #LisaMaxwell #SimonTeen #RivetedLit #instaread #instabooks #booktography #readinggoals #unitedbookstagram #readingismagic #yafantasy #bookwormsunite #bookishphotography #bookaesthetics #loveofreading #bookishgram https://instagr.am/p/CUEI1Har-nK/

πŸ–‹ π™²πš˜πš›πš˜πš—πšŽπš›'𝚜 πšπšŽπš™πš˜πš›πš - This is a very hard book to review. The story line is great. But, the majority of the book is sloooow. Thankfully the end portion of the book makes up for how slow it is.
I was able to listen to this on audio and I'm so thankful for that. I honestly may have DNF'd it otherwise. The audio added a lot to the feel of the story and I really enjoyed the narrator's southern accent.
Through the majority of the book you only gets small parts of the Gothic Horror and Mystery of the story. A lot of it is talking cars (which I like, but didn't feel added as much to the storyline) and trying to get their hands on lost research.
One thing I did love, other than the Mystery and Gothic Horror aspects was how much Queer rep there is. There were so many aspects and people in different stages of their sexuality. I thought this was wonderfully represented and it felt so natural and believable. Probably one of the best portrayals of discovering ones sexuality that I've read in a while.
I also really enjoyed the feel of the story. I got a lot of Ronan Lynch (Raven Boys) vibes from Andrew and the group. Also a little Adam Parish in the supernatural aspect. I really enjoyed that feeling as The Raven Boys is one of my favorites. So thank you Mandelo for giving me that feeling.
All in all, I would reccomend this one, just go in knowing it's a super slow burn, but the rep and finish line is worth it.

Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw

OK, I have very mixed thoughts on this one...
Well, first off, I was not a huge fan of the writing style. It was overly complex in some parts, making it hard to read and get the point across due to disjointed sentences/paragraphs. I get that the author was trying to get a certain point or emotion across during these times, slipping in lots of details that would have been non existent othersie, but it was a bit much at the start of the book. It does get a little better on this front later in the story. Still descriptive, but it flowed more smoothly.
I really enjoyed all the Japanese details and different folklore creatures. That was probably my favorite part. It was fun watching them come to life and was not overly coplicated. I do however wish the story revolved more around the folklore and less around the characters, which brings me to my next point.
I thought the story as a whole was neat, but somewhere along the way I felt it got lost in the actions of the characters. The author pretty much narrates what is about to happen just before it happens, which takes the fun and shock factor out of what is about to happen. Whereas this is a short story to begin with, that part really took away from the whole mood that was set.
Also, the ending comes so abruptly. It's like the story starts out with all of this potential and introducing us to the folklore of this specific place and then ends so suddenly with a simple character driven ending. I guess I would have liked to see a little more of the folklore translated into these parts and less of the full on character narration during one of the most crucial parts of the story. It was just a bit of a letdown. I mean, the parts that were good, were good, then it just kind of trails off suddenly...

The Seven Visitations of Sydney Burgess by Andy Marino
*Synopsis in comments*
Ugh, I've tried to write this post several times already and it never comes out how I want it to, kind of like this book...
This one wasn't a hit for me. It wasn't at all what I was expecting or hoping for going into it. Sometimes that is a good thing and a book will surprise you. Unfortunately for this book it didn't quite hit the mark.
I found myself slightly confused, it felt jisjointed and it just wasn't the best reading experience. I'm sure the writer probably intended some of this, but from a readers perspective it just didn’t work well. The story as a whole wasn't terrible, but the executionΒ  fell short.
I did enjoy parts of this book and found the "visitations" interesting. I liked the reasoning behind her not remembering what happened and about certain things in her past. I felt the love of a mom for her son, thinking she was doing what was best, even if she wasn't. After all, Sydney wasn't quite herself and had fallen back into bad habits...
This was my first experience with Marino's writing so it may be a one off and I may enjoy other books from him in the future. But I guess we shall see.

QTOD: What's your favorite underrated read? #TheDarkestMinds is one of mine! I feel like not enough people talk about it here, but it's one of my absolute favorite books. Although to be fair, it did get adapted into a movie, so I'm not sure if I can actually call it underrated. πŸ˜… It just has such a great balance between having well-developed characters, an exciting plot, and great world-building. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a dystopian read. But as much as I love this series (it's a trilogy, btw), I can't seem to bring myself to read its spin-off.
