QTOD: Are you a mood reader? I definitely am! 😭 I’d say my mood is in control of what I read about 95% of the time these days. Which makes reading an extra interesting adventure and sometimes extremely frustrating. We’re only one week into the month and I’ve already DNFed about 10 books because my mood can’t make up its mind about what it wants to read. I’d get a few chapters in and then it’s like “never mind, thank you, next!”. 💀 Anyways, I started #ACurseSoDarkAndLonely and really enjoyed the first 6 chapters. Hopefully, the best is still to come and I can FINALLY both A) read this series that’s been on my TBR for YEARS and B) commit to a book and actually finish reading it. If you’re a mood reader, any tips on picking books to read? — . . . ⚔ challenges #BookReadHappyHour [RIP my TBR] . and really enjoyed the first 6 chapters. Hopefully, the best is still to come and I can FINALLY both A) read this series that’s been on my TBR for YEARS and B) commit and finish reading at least one book this month. #BrigidKemmerer #bookphotography #bookrecommendations #booksofinsta #goodreads #yabookstagrammer https://instagr.am/p/CiN8cUyNwuY/

QTOD: Do you like books with multiple POVs? I usually enjoy books with multiple point of views as long as there aren’t too many characters. It’s a lot harder for me to keep things straight if we’re getting info and thoughts and feelings from too many sources. But on the flip side, sometimes I find single POVs a little too stagnant… — [Image description: The book, We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal open to its title page.] . . . ⚔ challenges #AllTheBooksAug22 [hero or villain] #MyFictionalMusings [multiple POVs] . #WeHuntTheFlame #HafsahFaizal #FierceReads #YAFantasy #bookgram #booksbooksbooks #bookishlife #readingtime📖 #instabooks #yareads https://instagr.am/p/ChS3UUitWec/

QTOD: What are some of your favorite dark fantasy or romantasy books? I’m in need of all the recs! Bonus points, if there’s some type of mystery woven into the plot. I started reading more dark fantasy and romantasy books this year and I think I’m in love. They’re quickly becoming some of my go-to genres when I’m in a slump. — I read #TheShadowsBetweenUs earlier this year, and while I enjoyed it, I was kind of disappointed. Especially by the ending. To be fair, I think my expectations may have been unreasonably high - my friend may or may not have oversold how fantastic it was when she was recommending it to me. 😅 Have you read this one? What did you think of it? QTOD: What was your favorite read of the month? Mine was These Violent Delights, although admittedly the more I think about it, the more I want to lower my rating. It’s definitely a bit overhyped but it’s not like it had much of a competition - the only other books I read this month was its sequel (which I liked less), an unfinished (for now) read, and a Kindle Unlimited book that I can’t remember the plot of (oops?). — Not gonna lie, I had a nice month off of bookstagram. It was nice to just be able to relax and read after work without having to worry about posting and interacting. Not to say I didn’t miss it - if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be back. It’s just that I had to start going into the office more often in March and honestly, three months later, I’m still adjusting to that new schedule. 😅 How was your month? . . . #AllTheBooksMay22 #TheseViolentDelights #bookstagram #YAReads https://instagr.am/p/CeOpUeuqpQ2/

QTOD: What’s on your TBR for this month?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m hoping to get to #TheLiarsCrown by #AbigailOwen. It was actually on my TBR for last month since I was fortunate enough to receive a copy from @entangledteen. That (obviously) didn’t work out, partly because I ended up in this weird reading slump and⁣⁣ had a craving for a reread.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ That phase has thankfully passed. (I hope?)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ To be honest, part of me does want to procrastinate even more on reading this since the⁣⁣ sequel comes out next Spring. But the cover is just too dang pretty to ignore. 🎶 Who is that girl I see?…🎶 QTOD: Do you enjoy retellings? I do! But admittedly, I learned that I have to be a bit careful about which ones I read close together. I’m sorry, but there are only so many Beauty & the Beast retellings I can read back to back before they all start to blur together. Anyways, I can’t wait to read this retelling of Mulan. It’s been on my shelves for YEARS now but I feel like it’s been staring at me, begging me to read it soon. Do you ever get that feeling? Like some books on your shelves are calling to you, waiting and wanting to be read? QTOD: Do you use the maps in books? I love them. I love looking at them. I love studying them. I love how pretty and detailed a lot of them are. But apparently, I don’t love using them. 😅 Honestly, when I get caught up in the story, I tend to forget that a map exists, no matter how helpful one may be for my reading comprehension. Don’t get me wrong, I still think they’re useful to have; it’s just that I’m not great with geography. Or keeping up with geography and the journey the MC(s) take throughout a book. — [Image description: A hardcover copy of Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts open to the included map.] . . . ⚔ challenges #MyFictionalMusings [map] . #MapMonday #AndrewShvarts #bookgeek #bookworm #bookalicious #readeveryday #bookreaders #readingstagram https://instagr.am/p/Chk49X9Mxr9/

QTOD: What are your favorite books set in or involving space? Honestly, I’m just posting to ask for recommendations at this point. I think all my latest posts involved asking for favorite ____ books. 😅 Can you tell I’m in a bit of a reading slump? But anyways, #TheGravityOfUs is one of my favorite space-related books. It’s not really set IN space, or all that science fiction-y but space still plays a huge part in the story. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a lighter read that’ll give you tons of reasons to smile. — [Image description: The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper with a (photoshopped) latte.] . . . ⚔ challenges #BookReadHappyHour [Houston, we have a problem.] . #bookdragon #booksofinstagram #beautifulbooks #readingismagic #reading #readersunite https://instagr.am/p/ChF8bgOtU3b/

QTOD: What are some of your favorite historical fiction books? Honestly, I don’t usually read too much historical fiction, but I am trying to read more of it. Especially since I have so many time travel books on my TBR like The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig. QTOD: What are you hoping to read this month? I’m hoping to finally get to some of the books on my physical TBR that have been stuck there for a while… like this copy of What’s Left of Me by #KatZhang, for example. I think I got it sometime around 2015, and I still haven’t read it. Yet. 😅 Are you good at knocking off books from your TBR, or do they tend to stay there for a while? — Let’s see how consistently I can post on insta this month…. QOTD: Do you prefer reading physical books or ebooks? It's been a while since I've posted a #shelfie. I'm proud and ashamed to report not much has changed from my last shelfie. Proud, because that means I've somehow managed to not go crazy with buying books. Ashamed, because not many changes also means I haven't managed to read that many books that I already own - the bottom shelf houses all the books I've read. — [Image description: My overflowing bookshelves.] . . . ⚔ challenges #AllTheBooksJul22 [#ShelfieSunday] #booklife #bookhoarder #allthebooks #readingforpleasure #bookishcommunity #readerproblems https://instagr.am/p/CgIlmP1skZ1/

QTOD: Do you read books immediately after you buy them? Or are you more like me and wait a few years before picking them up? 😅 I bought #TheAstonishingColorOfAfter when it first came out in 2018 and I still haven’t read it. Honestly, I’m ashamed to say four years isn’t that bad for me - I have tons of other books that have been on my physical tbr for much, much longer. Let’s just blame it on my mood reader brain and not on the fact that I’m a huge procrastinator and I’m a bit scared this book will hit a little too close to home. 🙈 But anyway, I’m hoping to finally read it this year. Maybe even this month as I wait for my pre-order of An Arrow to the Moon to arrive. QTOD: Do you ever revisit books your DNFed? I do! Mainly because a good portion of my DNFs have nothing to do with the book itself, but with me. Either my moody butt wasn’t in the right mood to read a book or life got in the way and I had to return the book to the library before I could finish it. Which is exactly what happened when I tried to read #TheDisasters. I got about halfway through it before it returned itself to my library's ebook collection and I just never got around to finishing it until a year later, last March. And now, it’s probably my favorite read of 2022 so far. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a YA sci-fi read featuring a misfit crew that can both make you laugh and make your heart race. QTOD: What’s the weather like where you are? It’s so gloomy here. It rained this morning and then started to snow. The snow didn’t last long so now everything is just wet and cold. 🥶 The only bright side is the cold weather makes me want to reread #Graceling, one of my old favorites. For some reason, I always think of reading it whenever we get some snow. Do certain types of weather remind you of certain books? — Don’t worry, no books were harmed in the making of this photo. I used an old, already water-damaged book, and protected Graceling’s dust jacket with its own little plastic raincoat (like the ones most library hardcovers get). . QTOD: What’s a book you want to read this year? #TheInheritanceGames has been on my tbr since the moment it was announced since I really enjoyed reading all of Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ other thriller / mystery books. In fact, her Naturals series is one of my absolute favorites - I reread it almost every year (it’s like Criminal Minds but with teenagers). And I’ve seen so many people rave about The Inheritance Games so naturally, I’m extra excited to read it. I just want to wait until the last book is published first. I hate waiting for sequels.
