So this is related to The Aurora Project but I realize it can also be more broad: are there places besides Amazon you can recommend for buying eBooks? My experience with eBooks up until this point has mostly been stuff I've gotten from The Gutenberg Project or Ao3. I like using the .epub format, and would prefer to continue to do so.
My issue is that I'd like to support the author the best I can but I don't have a lot of money. My library doesn't have the book yet, and I'm already planning on requesting it. But since this is more your wheelhouse, I was wondering what you would suggest for The Aurora Project, in case they don't get it in right away. I'd like to help, but yeah, don't have a lot of money.
So, one of the (many) strangleholds Amazon has over the self-publishing market is the lure of Kindle Unlimited. Basically, if you promise not to sell your ebook anywhere else, you can include it in the Kindle Unlimited program. The benefit there is that anyone who subscribes to Kindle Unlimited can read the book for "free"--and the author gets paid for every page read, rather than just the lump sum per unit of book sold. And authors don't get dinged for returns. (Which happens a distressing amount at Amazon.)
I don't know the specific math, but one of my successful self-publishing clients tells me Kindle Unlimited makes a huge financial difference for her. Which, of course, means self-pub authors stay loyal to Amazon, and Amazon keeps making money off them.
Side note: The royalties Amazon pays are much higher than those in traditional publishing. Although one must keep in mind that traditional publishers pay lower royalties to authors because they are footing the entire production/editorial/marketing/etc. bill; the self-publishing author has to pay for all those things out of pocket. Even if Amazon only makes 30% on each sale, they don't really have overhead or anything. They make 30% to host the platform through which an author distributes.
Which is all a long way of saying that, for now at least, Paul has decided to sell The Aurora Project only on Amazon. I have no idea whether libraries/bookstores are able to nab copies.
Please don't put yourself in any financial hardship over it! If he ever puts it on sale, I'll let you know. I know I'm going to encourage him to do that in the weeks before the second book comes out. :)
If you don't know about it, you might want to look into BookBub, by the way. You tell BookBub what genres you like, and it sends a daily email with links to heavily discounted books in those genres. I don't think I've ever seen a book more expensive than 2.99 or maybe the very occasional 3.99, and they are OFTEN .99/1.99/FREE. I've found so many amazing books through BookBub over the last few years--lots of authors put books on sale when they're about to release a new one. You don't need to buy from Amazon, either; BookBub always lists other retailers (Apple Books, Kobo, etc.) if the books are available there.

“Ready, set, go! This is an action packed, paranormal romance that starts off running and keeps going until the end! … Dane Anderson is the grumpy Zane, and he pulls out all the stops for this narration. Fantastic voices for all the characters, he made a movie in my mind! Plus his alpha protective voice is enticing! Evelyn Rose is the spitfire that is Charlotte. She is nothing short of amazing as she wields her sunshine into this grumpy demon! I loved these two and their performance!” Patty - Goodreads
“The banter was humorous and the chemistry was intense as even though they were brought together under difficult terms their hearts knew what their heads didn’t. I enjoyed the performance of the narrators as they made the characters relatable and their relationship believable.” - Kari, Bookbub
“With a good spice-to-action ratio, this book will keep you entertained. There are even werewolves and magic, so there is a lot packed into this well-rounded story.” - Jemma, Goodreads
“The audiobook narration by Evelyn Rose and Dane Anderson is top-notch. Rose's English accent and versatile voice bring the characters to life, while Anderson's deep voice suits the demon character perfectly…It's a captivating story with engaging characters and excellent narration that will leave you eager for more from Anna Durand.” - Emily, Bookbub

Yes! I had heard about the spin off about their kids it’s on my tbr! Not sure when I’ll get around to it but I’ll get there eventually. But ooh their other series sounds interesting too I’ll put it on my tbr too!! But that’s exactly why I loved Coballoway too (plus I’m also similar to Rose so their love story felt more personal that way)
Yay!! I’m glad the atlas six interested you, I hope you like it when you get to it I’m really loving it so far! I can already tell there is at least one ship I’m going to love it just hits all of my favorite tropes/things I enjoy. But the magic system is so cool and they are all so powerful.
Also glad you want to know about my reading too! I will keep you updated I have some books/series I really want to read but I try to be good and not read more than 2/3 at a time (and not buy anymore till I’m finished). Right now I’m also working through the throne of glass series which might take me awhile but I’m enjoying that too! Right now the books up next on my list are: Ugly Love, The Ravenhood Series, The Hating Game, Zodiac Academy, and Twisted Games (it’s the second book in a series that come out this month I loved Twisted Love by Ana Huang-highly recommend it if you love grumpy/sunshine and brother’s best friend tropes plus the twists were amazing-this one is a different couple but I’m excited!!)
Also! Don’t think I mentioned it yet maybe I did but I also read the Folk Air Series that you recommended! It took me a little while to get into but I ended up really loving it and Jurdan. I loved loved loved Jude and how power hungry she was and how Cardan was just obsessed with her. Their relationship build up was so good too.
All the best!!
-ACOTAR Anon
I keep meaning to get around to the Like Us series myself but I haven't managed it yet. It's been sitting on my tbr (and my Kindle) for a good couple of years now. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I know I'll read it eventually...but when eventually will be is anybody's guess.
(This is a good commentary on my reading life in general, I think. It's impossible to keep up with everything!)
The Atlas Six is pretty fascinating so far! I'm only about 25% into it but the magical world building is unique and I like how the narrative switches between the different POV's. Usually I don't care for more than 3 or 4 alternating perspectives in books because it makes it harder for me to invest in the characters, since I don't have as much time with them, but it works exceedingly well in this one. Helps to preserve the mystery of Atlas early on. And also allows readers to see how different all of the characters are in magical skill, background, personality, etc. I can't wait to see what unfolds!
I'm also currently reading Anxious People by Frederik Backman. I don't know if you've read anything by him before but he's such a good storyteller. Grabs you by the hearstrings. He's funny as hell, too. I've loved everything I've picked up from him so far. He has a knack for crafting beautifully flawed relatable complex characters. And this book is no exception. It might end up being a 5-star read for me, which is rare.
The next books on your to-read list sound fantastic, btw! Some I have read already or have them snuggled on one of my many wishlists. Like the Zodiac Academy and the Ravenhood series. And The Hating Game is one of my contemporary romance obsessions. It's just so enemies-to-lovers charged and fun. That book is packed full of a bunch tropes I adore. I've already read it twice and will likely revisit it again in the future. Thanks for mentioning Ugly Love (I need to get off my butt and read Colleen Hoover) and Twisted Love because those are definitely right up my alley. Grumpy/sunshine is one of my favorite romance tropes. I live for it!
And yayyy! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed The Folk of the Air! It does take a bit to settle into the world of that story, as well as to become engrossed in the characters, but once you do, it's full speed ahead. Jude is such a badass. I love that she's ambitious to the point she's willing to take people out/down to get what she wants. Her fraught relationship with Madoc is fascinating to me as well. And Jurdan is just such a delicious ship. I love it so much. It's true enemies-to-lovers excellence. They have so many quotable lines!
I'm excited because Holly Black has a new adult fantasy series coming out next year, in 2022. It's called Book of Night and the premise sounds cool as hell. I've already been stalking NetGalley in the hopes that I have a chance at first dibs on an ARC lolol.
Also, if you can find self-restraint enough not to buy any more books until you've read most of the ones you have then I salute you! I try oh, so hard to enact this rule upon myself...but it never works. Like ever. 😂
It's my own fault, really. I get daily emails/alerts from Kindle, BookBubs, etc. letting me know about titles that are on sale for less than $5, and when they're that cheap, I can't seem to justify NOT buying a whole hoard of them even though I know they're more than likely to remain unread for a long, loooong time to come. Better than paying full price, though. Right?
If you haven't email subscribed to any of these sites, and you're looking to save some cash on audio or e-books specifically, you should. I'd spend a whole ass fortune on books if I didn't use them. (I check out a lot of books from the library, too.) I dropped the links to some of the ones I use in case you or anyone else who reads this is interested and doesn't know about them:
Book Bubs (you can set preferences/alerts based on your favorite books, genres, authors; you can rate stuff and curate your own wishlist too)
Early Bird Books (I use this one a lot to find classics that are on sale/free)
Book Riot (this site has a lot of book sweepstakes you can enter for a chance to win gift cards to Barnes & Noble, Book Depository etc.)
Kindle Book Deals (there are tons of deals offered daily, weekly monthly; I'm not a Kindle Unlimited member but there's that option, too)
NewInBooks (new releases; has links for Kindle, Apple, Audio, and hardcover)
Anyway take care, sweets, and happy reading! 💜

“Even rockstars fall, some may say even harder.”
All Stars Fall, A Seaside Pictures/Big Sky Novella
by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken is now LIVE!
She left.
Two words I can't really get out of my head.
She left us.
Three more words that make it that much worse.
Three being another word I can't seem to wrap my mind around.
Three kids under the age of six, and she left because she missed it. Because her dream had never been to have a family, no her dream had been to marry a rockstar and live the high life.
Moving my recording studio to Seaside Oregon seems like the best idea in the world right now especially since Seaside Oregon has turned into the place for celebrities to stay and raise families in between touring and producing. It would be lucrative to make the move, but I'm doing it for my kids because they need normal, they deserve normal. And me? Well, I just need a break and help, that too. I need a sitter and fast. Someone who won't flip me off when I ask them to sign an Iron Clad NDA, someone who won't sell our pictures to the press, and most of all? Someone who looks absolutely nothing like my ex-wife.
He's tall.
That was my first instinct when I saw the notorious Trevor Wood, drummer for the rock band Adrenaline, in the local coffee shop. He ordered a tall black coffee which made me smirk, and five minutes later I somehow agreed to interview for a nanny position. I couldn't help it; the smaller one had gum stuck in her hair while the eldest was standing on his feet and asking where babies came from. He looked so pathetic, so damn sexy and pathetic that rather than be star-struck, I took pity. I knew though; I knew the minute I signed that NDA, the minute our fingers brushed and my body became insanely aware of how close he was—I was in dangerous territory, I just didn't know how dangerous until it was too late. Until I fell for the star and realized that no matter how high they are in the sky—they're still human and fall just as hard.

5 Surprising Facts About Madeleine L’Engle’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’
[via BookBub Blog]
The acclaimed classic A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle has delighted readers of all ages since its publication in 1962. Even though this timeless, genre-bending tale might seem like a familiar favorite to some, its upcoming adaptation to the big screen is about to give a whole new generation a reason to fall in love with the Time Quintet. Here are some of the most incredible A Wrinkle in Time facts you probably didn’t know, and that you’ll definitely want to brush up on before checking out the adaptation…
After a series of rejections, L’Engle almost gave up writing on her 40th birthday.
Instead, she took a 10 week road trip across the U.S. that helped influence her subsequent work, A Wrinkle in Time.
A Wrinkle in Time was rejected by more than two dozen publishers before eventually being picked up by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux.
L’Engle based Meg on her childhood self.
A Wrinkle in Time is one of the most banned books of all time, mostly due to the book’s treatment of fantastical elements and depiction of religion.

 Blurb:
She’s not a secret. She’s a second chance.
 Shay
Six years ago, the good, upstanding men of Stonecut County ran me off. I took a secret with me. An inconvenient truth they wanted buried.
Actions have consequences. Their perfect golden boy maybe wasn’t so perfect after all.
Then life hands me one too many lemons. I’m forced to go back, and in Stonecut, nothing ever changes.
Kellum Wall is still golden.
I’m still unwanted.
And falling for his cocksure smile will most certainly ruin my life all over again.
 Kellum
I believe there are still good men left in this world, and I strive to be one. I was raised to live by a code. God and country. Protect and serve.
I always do the right thing, even when it’s hard—and yet, somehow, I’ve made an unforgivable mistake.
I want what I lost. The woman, the child, the white picket fence. But it’s not gonna come easy.
Shay’s a survivor. She doesn’t believe in happily ever after, and earning her trust might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
She’s got my heart in her hands, though, and this time—I’m not letting her slip through my fingers.
Hitting the Wall is a steamy, small town romance featuring a secret baby and a second chance at love. It’s the first book in the Stonecut County series. Intended only for adult readers.

"This was a fantastic read. It was so incredibly well written and such a beautiful story. I LOVED it! Got sucked in and then wasn't able to put it down until I finished, which was slightly problematic with my work and family life." BookLoverinSeattle, Goodreads
Excerpt:
It’s her.
The girl with the auburn hair. From the night at the bonfire.
My heart slams into my ribs, adrenaline surging through my veins. My hand is on the door handle. She’s standing there, skin glistening with sweat, hip cocked, foot turned out, in a pale pink blouse and brown patterned skirt, shading her eyes.
It’s her. There’s no doubt. Those round hips and trim waist. That stubborn chin. I swallow past a lump lodged in my throat, and I get out of the car. I remember my hat a second too late.
What’s she doing back here in Stonecut County? By the side of the road?
I wipe my hands on my thighs. Square my shoulders. The heat hits me like a brick wall, stealing my breath.
I see the moment she recognizes me. Her entire body goes rigid. She grabs the little girl’s upper arm and tugs her close to her side. The action draws my eyes down.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.

About Me
Astoria Cathryn Andromeda
I am 19 years old. I had blonde hair for my whole life until last month when I dyed it dark brown with blue underneath. I am an electrical engineering student. I had an internship at NASA Ames Research Center last summer. I work on my university's small satellite research lab, mainly on electrical hardware. I think calculus is fun as long as I'm not confused. I hate coding, no matter how useful it is, I hate programming. I like skateboarding with my friends in random parks, making a fool of myself, reading books, being a whore for attention, being a whore for the trope enemies to lovers in literally any form. I like swimming in the ocean until a fish touches me. I love my fraternity, it's a co-ed professional engineering fraternity. Dogs are pretty fantastic, I think cats are too but I am much more allergic to cats than I am dogs even though I have lived with at least two dogs since I am home from the hospital. I like cats, but my body doesn't. Technically my body doesn't like anything furry, or anything outside, or gluten. I always say natural selection should have taken me if modern technology wasn't a thing. I hate overhead lights, especially white ones. I am always in low lighting. I love the sun, I love summer and swimming, and I wish I could get tan, but I just burn. For Christmas, my mom is buying me a piece of land in the Highlands in Scottland, so I can protect it from being commercialized and I get the title Lady. My mom's maiden name is Scottish, so there's that, but also I feel very strongly about the environment. I hate it when they start to build new stuff. I think the human race should end with Gen Z, jokes. I really love the smell of books, but I prefer reading stuff on my phone or kindle which is super backward I think. I really only eat salad, chicken, cliff bars, and gluten pasta with nothing on it. My car's name is Djibouti, named after the capital city, not the country to be specific. I love her, she has front pinchers very badass for a Toyota. I really hate the Christmas season like in general. I especially hate Christmas music, or the number of covers, and how long they play it on the radio. I mean I like getting gifts, but everyone is very joyful and lovey and it's sickening to me. Idk be a good person all year, and stop being sickly fake sweet right now. Yes I know I'm a grinch. I like Halloween and Thanksgiving. I just think Christmas is overhyped, and I've been over it since I was 12 so sorry. I mean I still think Micheal Bubble is a fine guy, I just don't like the season in general. I prefer big dogs over little dogs. I really have always wanted a little black cat and name it Harley, but I am quite allergic. The protein in the cat's salvia is what most people are allergic to, and there are certain breeds that produce less of it, and female cats produce less, and lighter colored lights produce less, but that pretty much destroys my dream of having a little black cat. I don't know where that came from, but I've always that it was dope. I am from suburbia of America, and I went to crazy shit competitive high school, so I thought I was average intelligence until college and I found out I am slightly below average. Like 70 people went to ivy leagues, my class. I hate the two-party system in America, I think it literally reserves any progress this country could have made. I think like every white guy in your history textbook gloried. Like Trump said he's done more for African-Americans than Abe Lincoln did, and let me tell you that asshole literally only freed the slaves in the states that were rebelling. There were still slaves in like the in the middle area, and he also was responsible for the largest mass hanging in American history, and guess who it was. Some Sioux tribe Native Americans and they did it to them on their own fucking land. If you think Thomas Edison is cool, well I am about to ruin it, he was a fraud and a snake. All he did was be big charm big business man and steal patents and pay people to make stuff. My dude, Nikola Tesla though, you can trust him, he's real. He didn't get any money for all the scientific discoveries, because they were stolen, or he literally just didn't care. He was just in it for the science, man and that's respectable. I really like music. I really like a lot of different kinds of music. My spotify be popping, but for only me specifically and my very specific music taste. There are two people in this world that share 70% music taste with me. If you know who Usui is, um that's my dream man email me so we can simp. legally I do not drink alcohol or smoke oui'd or do psychedelics. legally in this written statement. I do not. Um I can't think of anything else, but I'm sure I'll come back and add more. I hope this was not your stereotypical bio. Making bios are boring as shit. Oh I love Rick & Morty. Love Get Switfy, Existence is Pain, definitely Pickle Rick, and that fucked up dragon one. Hilarious literally peak humor. I like Futurama too, and New Girl. I used to be fucking ripped as shit when I as gymnast, and then I switched to swimming and weight lifted and I was still ripped as shit but like in a more long way, and then I stopped swimming when I went to college and I lost 23 pounds of muscle. So yeah that interesting, I was like wow didn't know I could weigh this little, and then my legs will hurts when I walk up the stairs and I'm like woooooow you are weaaaaaaak, you used to swim for like 5 miles straight and do flips the fuck. But I don't care enough to work out again. I don't like to do it by myself. I was on my university club swim team for like a hot second, but the practice was at 9pm and I got cold waiting o the bus after so I stopped lol. Things I recommend:
niche youtube documentaries
pdfdrive.com
bookbub
excel is fun like if you just do it for fun like for you lmao
Things I don't recommend:
skipping your programming class before a pop quiz on Friday
sitting in this hunched position I'm in my back hurts
thinking too much or too little: they both hurt
taking things for granted: I do this a lot😕

A passionate one-night-stand with a cocky pole dancer leaves him wanting more, but will the truth of his past work against him?

Forgotten is the second book in the Heaven and Hell Club series. It’s a hurt/comfort romance, with two men who need to learn to be true to themselves. It can be read as a standalone, but works better if read after Broken.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 stars 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 4 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧 Narration: 5 (so wonderful!)
Oh my heart, what a truly amazing and special story!
I loved this story! It’s so raw and heartwarmingly real and honest. I think Jared and Ky are now etched on my heart alongside Jag and Michael (from Broken).
I loved the continuation of the Heaven and Hell Club series and seeing all the favorites again! This story is honest with real life and the somewhat harsh reality of a traumatic brain injury. I could feel Jared’s suffering, frustration, and pain, all while he was trying to build his new life and come to terms with his accident and lost memory. I both loved and hated that Jared was so intrinsically linked to Jag’s story even though he couldn’t remember. It’s sad to see the other characters grieve for a life gone even though the person is still alive. Colette embraced this aspect with such passion, compassion and care you feel every emotion and don’t give up hope that he’ll remember.
Now for a bit of a spoiler… (just between the ***)
***
I loved Colette’s honesty when it comes to a brain injury and the fact that so much is unknown. This story is REAL and Jared is able to grow, heal, recover and get his “happy ending” even without ever remembering. I feel that Colette did this so well, that you feel for Jared but come to accept his reality and that fact that it’s not a fairy tale and you don’t just wake up one day with all your memories back. I loved the growth and constant learning Jared went through to accept that he would likely never remember and how he adapted to build a new life for himself while grieving the unknown.
***
Now Ky is a fantastic character, so passionate and caring right from the start. I loved his strength and compassion for Jared without pity. He stands by him with fierce loyalty even though they don’t know each other that long. You can feel the chemistry fly off the page with these two and I loved that Ky always treated Jared as an equal, never less. Their story is a challenging one but its filled with so much compassion, care, and love, it made me laugh, cry and fall for these characters as if they were real. I highly recommend the whole series but I think this one is one of my favs now. Truly beautiful!!!

 ★ ABOUT HEARTLESS KING ★
Two blue lines. That means not pregnant, right? Right? Oh, sh*t.
Five years ago, Colm Frost asked me to marry him and I ran. I ran from my painful past too raw and fresh to escape. He was the only one who looked at me like I wasn’t broken and made me believe it. He made me feel it.
Now, he’s the hot, angry, hockey player on the mend.
I’m the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on his feet.
I don’t think our night together was what his doctor prescribed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t dreamt of him every time I close my eyes. I woke up beside him with my body still singing from the way he fanned the flames of my desire, but I couldn’t stay.
His lips on my neck. His hands wrapped around my waist. His impressive...ahem, touch leaving me breathless.
One moment of wild inhibition and it’s come back to bite me in the butt. Kind of like he did that night.
But a baby? Our night was supposed to be a one time thing, closing a door on the future I couldn’t handle.
Will this new bump in the road be everything we needed to find our forever?
Heartless King is a standalone friends to enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy romance that brings all the laugh out loud, angsty feels!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heartless King is book five in the Kings of Rittenhouse series, but each of the books in the series can be read as standalones. This is the second book I have read in the series and I can attest that I had no trouble understanding the story. Reckless King is essentially a story of two individuals who have been through so much trauma and their journey on finally finding bliss. Colm is someone who has had to grow up fast and take on a lot of responsibilities from a young age due to the death of his parents for which he blames himself for. He messes up a lot but when he realizes his mistakes he accepts and apologizes for it as well. Imogen lost her parents as well as her fiancé, Preston to an accident and hasn’t grieved properly. They both have flaws of their own and go through some fantastic character development as well. The writing style is great as well and the plot is easy to follow. Colm and Imogen do spend a night together and she falls pregnant but what I love about this story was told is that the pregnancy is not the catalyst for their love which is why I love this book so much. The pregnancy trope is one that can be quite messy but Maya navigates this so well that I was in awe. The brotherhood between the guys was one of the best things in this book and I loved how they were all there for Colm during his trying times though I wish there was more scenes shown between the girls especially between Imogen and Avery. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the books in this series and would be watching out for Maya’s other books as well. ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.
★ EXCERPT FROM HEARTLESS KING ★
The way she bit her bottom lip while sitting in the back of the taxi sent my heart thundering against my ribs, trying to make a quick escape out the window. She was going through all those thoughts blinking like big caution signs on a dark night saying “No, don’t do this. It’s irresponsible. Here are twenty seven reasons this is a bad idea.” I didn’t want to be a bad idea or a mistake in her mind. She sure as hell wasn’t one in mine.
Tugging her toward me, nearly sitting on my lap, I sealed her parted lips mid-gasp with a kiss. Threading my fingers through her hair, I let my tongue dance along her lips, before delving inside.
The taxi driver cleared her throat. Only then did I remove my hand from under her skirt, tracing the edges of her panty line with the tips of my fingers.
I released my hold on her.
Now, her pink cheeked glances and slightly mussed hair were a hallmark to how far away I’d pushed those thoughts out of her mind. That along with her fingers intertwined with mine. Her pulse drumming against my palm.
She had no trouble putting her hands all over me during one of our sessions, but could still be shy about us exploring one another's bodies. An exploration I wouldn’t be finished with until I’d committed each inch of her to memory and could discover which spots made her gasp, whimper and moan.
Her gaze kept darting to the tent in my pants.
”At this point, I’d think you’d be used to it.”
With a hasty cash tip to the driver, I hustled her out of the taxi.
We burst through the front door like a zombie hoard was following us through the streets.
With a mischievous grin over her shoulder, Imogen danced outside of my grasp.
Her laugh made me smile as she took off up the stairs, shedding clothes along the way. I gathered up each piece like the world's most tempting breadcrumbs.
A heel, then another.
Her soft black wrap.
The perfectly formed cups of her light gray bra hung on the railing at the top of the stairs.
I stood silently, trying to find her. She was a stripping Houdini.
Her dress, the one that fit her perfectly, in a heap on the floor.
My blood thrummed in my veins, pounding harder with each step. I’d been inside her less than an hour ago and already I was ravenous for her touch.
And that’s when I remembered. The bright blue, lacy fabric in my pocket.
She was totally naked.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog. This is your news post, so personalize it! Include as much as you want or as little. Be creative, it can be a vlog or just a showcase of your goodies. Link up once a week or once a month, you decide. Anyone can participate as long as you… Enter your link on Sunday’s post, link back to Kimberly’s blog and visit others who have linked up.
Today marks the first time I’m participating in The Sunday Post. I’ve seen it many times but never felt like I would have much to say, so I never joined in. One of my goals for 2020 is to become more disciplined about things—for my blog, that means posting regularly, catching up on unfinished/overdue reviews of books I’ve already read (while staying current with reviews for 2020 reads), and finally, to interact more with other bloggers. Taking part in this weekly meme feels like a great way to help accomplish that blogging goal, and I’m excited to join in.
On the Blog
For the very first time (I think), I posted something every single day for a week. It felt like an amazing accomplishment. For various reasons, it was a struggle for me to post anything consistently in 2019—some months, I didn’t post anything at all—and it felt like I’d lost my blogging mojo completely. It feels great to kick off 2020 with renewed motivation and a true desire to write reviews again.
Posts for the week of December 29 through January 4:
December 29: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett December 30: The Dilemma by B.A. Paris December 31: The Best (and worst) Books I Read in 2019 January 1: Call Your Daughter Home by Deb Spera January 2: Followers by Megan Angelo January 3: Westering Women by Sandra Dallas January 4: First Line Fridays January 5: Stacking the Shelves
On Reading
I kicked off the week with by starting a reread of Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon—continuing on with my decision to finally review all eight books in the Outlander series. (Perhaps I’ll even review the accompanying short stories, as well!) Mindful of my reviewing goals for the new year, I set it aside temporarily in order to read some ARCs I have for books that will be published this month, and started reading Westering Women on January 1st. Sadly, this book turned out to be my first stinker of the year. Luckily, I finished it rapidly. On January 2, I moved on to The Good Mother by Cathryn Grant. Holy guacamole, what a book it has been so far! I can’t wait to finish reading it so I can share my thoughts with all of you.
On Organization
I mentioned in another post that I’d been making changes with the look of my blog. I’ve got that pretty much wrapped up. What I’m doing now is getting the (blog) social media accounts organized. The main focus of that my Pinterest account. Since starting this blog, I’ve changed the look of my review graphics—switching to a single image showing both the book cover and author(s), rather than separate images in the post—as well as the look of the highly recommended badge I use, so that it matches the new overall look of the blog. Now, in order to have a uniform look, I’m having to go through all my pins for book reviews: delete the obsolete images, and repin with the new ones. Me being me, I decided I should also create new boards, sorted by year, rather than leave them in a single board called Book Reviews. I love the idea of having it all properly sorted, but damn… it’s going to take a lot longer to get it all done!
Another item on my organization list is to add all my reviews to Bookbub. I signed up last year, so very few of my reviews are actually on the site. My plan is to add them gradually, so it won’t feel too overwhelming a process. With 252 reviews on the blog so far, it’s going to take a while to get them copied over!
On Possibilities
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about discussion posts. Some of the most interesting posts I see from other book bloggers are discussion posts (and y’all have come up with some great topics). I haven’t taken any steps in that direction as of yet, but there are a couple of topics—book-related and otherwise— I’ve been mulling over these last days that I’m giving serious thought to writing about. I think it would be a fun addition to the blog to have something like that became a semi-regular thing, assuming I can think of enough interesting topics to write about.
On Life
After struggling with a chronic illness (hyperthyroidism) for well over two years—with 2019 being especially debilitating—I had an RAI (radioactive iodine) treatment in early December. While it will take time to see what the end result will ultimately be, for the time being I’m feeling better than I have in a very long time. In fact, I’m feeling great! I feel like me again, rather than a shell of my former self. This is main reason I’m feeling so motivated about blogging again. Last year, it was a struggle for me to write anything. I had zero concentration, and felt exhausted all the time. Reading was easy, but being able to write a decent review? That felt like an impossible task. I couldn’t find the words, much less focus my thoughts in a coherent manner. But now, I feel an incredible amount of focus. I’m able to think about what I did and didn’t like about a story, and the words needed to express that in a review are flowing effortlessly into my mind. It feels amazing!
On Other Entertainment
I’ve been so busy reading and writing posts, I’ve had little time for anything else. I’ve abandoned my umpteenth re-watch of The Walking Dead after I finished season six. I’ll get back to it eventually… probably not before the back half of season ten begins airing, though.
Something I do intend to start re-watching soon is Falling Skies. Wikipedia describes Falling Skies is “an American post-apocalyptic science fiction television series created by Robert Rodat and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. The series stars Noah Wyle as Tom Mason, a former history professor who becomes the second-in-command of the 2nd Massachusetts Militia Regiment, a group of civilians and fighters fleeing Boston following an alien invasion that devastated the world.” It’s a fantastic series and, having watched it only once, it’s time to do it again!
Tumblr media
In Closing
Well, look at that! I actually had a LOT to say. So much for being worried I wouldn’t have anything to talk about, huh? I should have joined in a long, long time ago. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Until next time!

Excerpt
“What’s your favorite movie?”
“Of all time?” he asks.
“Pick one from the past ten years.”
“I can’t,” he says. “There are so many great ones, and I love them all for different reasons. I love the technical aspect of Birdman. I love the performances in Call Me by Your Name. Fantastic Mr. Fox is my favorite cartoon because Wes Anderson is a goddamn genius.” He glances at me. “What about you?”
“I don’t think Fantastic Mr. Fox counts. It seems older than ten years.” I lean my head back and stare up at the ceiling. It’s a tough question. “I’m like you. I don’t know that I have a favorite movie. I tend to judge more on the talent than the story line. I think Emma Stone is probably my favorite actress. And Adam Driver is the best actor of our time, but I don’t think he’s landed the role of his lifetime yet. He was great in BlacKkKlansman, but I’m not crazy about some of the other movies he’s been in.”
“But did you see the Kylo Ren skit?”
“Yes!” I say, sitting up. “On SNL? Oh my God, it was so funny.” I’m smiling, but I hate that I’m smiling. It feels weird to smile when I’m so full of sadness, but this is how Miller makes me feel every time I’m around him. He’s the only thing that seems to be able to take my mind off everything, yet he’s the one person I can’t really hang out with.
Thanks for that, Shelby.
It sucks. I don’t like thinking about it, even though we’re together right now. But tomorrow at school, things will go back to how they always are. Miller will keep his distance. He’ll respect his relationship with Shelby, which will only serve to make me respect him even more.
And I’ll just continue to be in a depressing funk.
“I should go,” I say.
Miller hesitates before moving. “Yeah, I think my break was over ten minutes ago.” We both stand up, but I can’t get out of the aisle because he’s blocking my way, facing me, not making an effort to walk away. He’s just staring down at me as if he wants to say something else. Or do something else.
“I’m really sorry about what happened,” he says. At first, I’m not sure what he’s talking about, but then it hits me. I press my lips together and nod, but I don’t say anything because it’s the last thing I want to talk or think about.
“I should have said that the other day. At the funeral.”
“It’s fine,” I say. “I’m fine. Or at least I’ll be fine. Eventually.” I sigh. “Hopefully.”
He’s staring at me like he wants to pull me in for a hug, and I really wish he would. But instead, he turns and walks out of the aisle, toward the exit. I stop at the restroom on our way out. He grabs a trash can and starts to pull it toward the theater we just came out of.
“See you tomorrow, Clara.”
I don’t tell him goodbye. I walk into the restroom and don’t even bother pretending things will be the same at school tomorrow as they were tonight. He’ll avoid me while being all faithful and shit, and whatever. That’s okay. I need to stop interacting with him anyway, because as good as it feels when I’m around him, it’s starting to hurt when I’m not. And I don’t need another painful thing added to my already existing pile of excruciating feelings.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

About the Author
Skye Malone is a fantasy and paranormal romance author, which means she spends most of her time not-quite-convinced that the magical things she imagines couldn't actually exist.
A Midwesterner who migrated to the Pacific Northwest, she dreams of traveling the world — though in the meantime she'll take any story that whisks her off to a place where the fantastic lives inside the everyday. She loves strong and passionate characters, complex villains, and satisfying endings that stay with you long after the book is closed. An inveterate writer, she can't go a day without getting her hands on a keyboard, and can usually be found typing away while she listens to all the adventures unfolding in her head.

Release Day Review! The Good Griffin (That Old Black Magic / Heart's Desired Mate) J.C. McKenzie!
Tumblr media
He's a good griffin, with a bad temper... Detective Damian Charming yearns to sweep a certain feisty lynx shifter off her feet. Every time he tries to talk to her, however, he sticks his foot in his mouth. He doesn't mean to sound condescending. Life would be easier if Lucy admitted he knows best, especially now that someone in town has threatened her. He's a good griffin (mostly) until someone messes with what is his.
She's an unlucky lynx with no time for trouble... Lucy May hates Stillwater detective Damian Charming. Sure, he helped her with a horrible situation and has looks to rival the gods, but he also views lynx shifters as inferior supernatural beings. When someone targets the business she worked hard to create, though, Lucy turns to the one man she knows will mercilessly unearth the culprit.
It's more than just hex appeal... When a hex sends the town in a storm of sexual shenanigans in the middle of the investigation, Lucy realizes just how bad she has it for the griffin. Now she needs to convince Damian her feelings are true and reel him in before his need for vengeance destroys the entire town.
The books in That Old Black Magic world and Heart's Desired Mate Series can be read as stand-alone stories and in any order.

He’s a good griffin with a bad temper. She’s an unlucky lynx with no time for trouble and in this delightfully charming story they cause sparks to fly, as they heat up the pages. Damian and Lucy are two strong, captivating characters that grab readers’ attentions right from the start and refuse to let go. The chemistry between Lucy and Damian is electric and the romance is sweet with quite a bit of turmoil as they become a bit muddled when they are around each other. This causes readers to break in spontaneous laughter and quite a few chuckles throughout.
The story is fast paced and full of entertaining events that keep the adrenaline pumping and the readers eyes glued to the pages so that they don’t miss a thing. Some of those events are fun, some could be serious but readers can’t help but smile and chuckle and some are tension inducing and full of suspense. There is certainly never a moment to get bored and readers won’t want to put down the book until they have read every last word of this story which takes place in a delightful world that makes a fantastic setting for the charming and quirky characters.
