I think it’s quite funny that most 20-30-something year old Broadway actors can be sorted into 1 of 3 categories:
Newsies
Mormons

"As it’s my last day on Book Of Mormon thought I’d share a little of the review I wrote in 2013 when I was 18 at college. Luckily, the producers didn’t agree with my thoughts on Elder Price casting 🥲
‘I found the lead character, Gavin Creel, who played the role of Elder Price truly phenomenal. An American native, I think this a role that can only be played by an American. The level of humour and energy is something unnatural for us Brits, and I think the character is played perfectly by Creel. However, the entire ensemble of Mormons were amazing, the difficulty of harmony was matched by the quality of singing and the acting remained at the huge level required by all cast members, summating in a wonderful evening. As well as this it made me really want to be in the show!’".

If anybody else wants to use the "tourists help support the Quileute tribe because of Twilight" argument, let's look at the fact that the Quileute literally had to put up a photography & visitor etiquette manual for tourists when visiting La Push because an MSN film crew making a Twilight virtual tour went to the reservation & filmed a Quileute cemetery featuring the graves of respected elders & added "scary" music to it, all without permission
The tribe was understandably upset & I believe got them to remove it, but the fact that people even did that is fucked up. Mind you as well that the coast and the two islands near La Push are sacred to Quileute, and of course now its crawling with twilight tourists. More than that, the Quileute Tribal Secretary of LA Push (idk if she still is, but definitely at the time) Naomi Jacobson said that the producers of Twilight visited her cousin's home to get a feel for La Push, and they were literally surprised that the reserve & the Native population there was modernized and had technology and shit. 🙄 like sorry not sorry we don't fit your Noble savage image of us.
It is not a fucking good thing that the Quileute (or ANY Native tribe who became well known because of some movie or book) has to smile and grin and cater to White people & annoying tourists just to make some money. Especially the Quileute being targeted by a White Mormon (who literally believe Native people are evil, and also kidnapped and/or assimilated around 50,000 Native children ) and the white fans who defend her.

tell us all about mormonism
since there's way too much to talk about and i am rn in someone's dms talking about the link between mormons and multi-level-marketing i'm gonna focus on a certain aspect that i find absolutely fascinating and that's the history of the book of abraham. batshit stuff
so most people know that joseph smith published the book of mormon in 1830, claiming to have supposedly met an angel called moroni who led him to ancient golden plates that recounted the real life, absolutely true, no bullshit story about how ancient hebrews travelled to america and created their own civilization and stories there (and how indigenous people today are supposedly the descendants of jews settled in america who were punished for their sins as a people with dark skin. i wish i were joking). if you didn't now you know and it's worth reading about bc it's a fucking wild story!
the thing that MOST non mormons don't know though, is that the book of mormon wasn't his only supposed translation of an ancient text that gave religious revelations to the world. in 1835 some guy had been touring around the usa with some ancient egyptian mummies, artefacts and papyrii, exhibiting them for a pretty penny. joseph happened upon these papyrii and immediately claimed to its owners that he could translate these, and bought them and the mummies. seven years later, he published what he claimed to be a translation of these papyri, which were supposedly written by.... the prophet abraham. yes, that abraham. these papyri written by an ancient hebrew prophet just happaned to be on tour and joe smith got a miraculous hunch that they were previously-undiscovered biblical writings with all the authority that goes with it. nice! and what a coincidence that this is all happening while interest in ancient egypt is at an all time high in europe and north america, as the rosetta stone is slowly being translated for the first time!
so how did joseph smith translate these, considering he himself had little to no factual knowledge of hieroglyphs? well, he claimed that the book of abraham was written "reformed egyptian" (if you ask any modern egyptologist they will shoot you on the spot) and over the next few years, he not only published a book of grammar of "reformed egyptian". here's some parts of the notebook he used as basis
Tumblr media
like, you gotta give it to joseph smith. he commits to the grift 200%. he could have like, just claimed to magically translate these from a stone in a hat like he did with the golden plates, but instead he actually wrote a book of grammar to a made up language from these papyri and then published the book of abraham. he was a hell of a prolific writer and supposed translator.
he also reproduced portions of the illustrations of the papyrus, and explained them in biblical terms, such as below
Tumblr media
now fun fact about me, the first time i saw this i laughed so hard i started crying. my grandparents' old home have an old funerary papyrus reproduction in their corridor which looks very close to this, and as a kid i was obsessed with ancient egypt. so i took a look at the VERY obvious osiris being discussed very seriousy as abraham, and the VERY fake anubis described as........... a slave............. because he's black let's be honest.................. and i fucking cry laughed so hard i actually woke a relative.
so like, this is the kind of shit you should expect from the supposed book of abraham. the papyri themselves were sold again after joseph smith's death and were subsequently lost, but to be clear: this is an ordinary funerary papyrus. it has absolutely fuck all to do with abraham and reformed egyptian is not a thing. joseph smith's source is that he made it the fuck up. any serious ancient egypt scholar that had studied the subject--including LDS ones!!!--agree that there is absolutely NOTHING tying the og text and illustrations of the papyri to whatever the hell joseph claimed they contained. and i mean, at the time you can understand WHY it went through. knowledge of egyptian language at the time was still sparse and limited to few scholars. and again, joe committed the FUCK to the bit.
with all that said, what did the book of abraham supposedly contain? well..... by some magical coincidence, it contained a whole lot of answers to theological questions that were asked to joseph since the book of mormon had been published that he could not simply magically answer without a supposed "proof". he was prophet but there were still whole aspects of mormon theology and cosmology that he could not simply pull out of his ass claiming heavenly father had bestowed it to him. he could do that at least part of the time, but considering how much his reputation as a prophet rode upon the book of mormon he probably knew people wanted "solid" proof (aka several guys swear they saw him handle golden sheets, which means the whole angel story and translation have gotta be legit right). so the book of abraham very coincidentally contains a whole bunch of explanations about concepts such as the predestination, the eternal nature of souls (aka our souls existed before incarnation of earth and our choices in the pre-existence affect what happens to us on earth, which has dire fucking implications for victims of abuse, disabled people and especially black people), and the whole "god was originally a human who became god and you can all become gods and get your own planets" shtick that's legit the most unique aspect of mormonism and part of why evangelicals fucking hate mormons and do not call them christians.
today the mormon church has recently FINALLY quietly agreed that the book of abraham's original translation is hot garbage, but many argue that joseph smith simply used the papyri as a catalyst for writing down the original texts that were lost. which is a bullshit excuse, and the book of abraham is currently being quietly shelved and taught a lot less in seminary and byu. though tbh i think it ties with the mormon church's hope to assimilate more into christianity and quietly divest itself of its more.... unique teachings (not the racism or authoritatian structure though).

I’m cleaning my room right now and I came across my old playbills, so I decided to check my Book of Mormon one to see if I happened to see Dylan Mulvaney, since she was touring close to the time I saw it. Well, she wasn’t in it when I saw it, but guess who was??
Tumblr media
Bryce Charles!! She was in the ensemble and understudied Nabalungi! Here I thought I’d never seen any members of Starkid live, but I was mistaken!

Winx Musical Casting - The Specialists and Stella Edit
This is a part 2 of this post:
ITS TIME FOR THE BOIS LETS GO
First up, here's a slight edit for the Stella casting. I had Stephanie Styles as Stella. Recently, I had an idea of who would fit better.
Bonnie Miligan.
oh im sorry its TONY AWARD WINNER BONNIE MILLIGAN
Tumblr media
This. woman. is. a. POWERHOUSE? Not only does she have AMAZING VOCALS, but shes an amazing actress with spectacular comedic timing and is just an amazing performer. Her credits include Pamela in the Original Broadway Cast of Head Over Heels, and Debra in the Tony Award Winning Musical, Kimberly Akimbo. Pamela already gives Stella energy so I think she would steal the show as our favorite ray of chaotic sunshine.
Examples:
youtube
youtube
these 2 songs ARE JUST STELLA OMG
Now onto the boys...
Sky: James Tolbert
Tumblr media
This man is OOZING with charisma. He's mostly known for working with team Starkid as a choreographer for A Very Potter Sequel, Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, and VHS Christmas Carol Live. His onstage credits include Snigglotts,/Vice President Bob Morris/Xander Lee/Ensemble in Black Friday, Blinky/Snigglotts/Ensemble in Nightmare Time, and The Ghost of Christmas Present in A VHS Christmas Carol Live. I think he could add way more charisma and character to the Wonder bread man that is Prince Sky of Eraklyon.
youtube
youtube
Brandon: Milo Manheim
Tumblr media
Now, I don't know if Milo has done any theatre BUT his credits do have him all the musical theatre skills (singing, dancing, acting, etc). He's mostly known for playing Zed Necrodopolis in the DCOM musical trilogy, Zombies. He also placed 2nd on Dancing With the Stars in 2018. From the videos I've seen of him, he seems to have the right kind of vibes for our favorite himbo squire.
youtube
Helia: Dean John-Wilson
Tumblr media
His credits include the title role in Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre in the West End, Lun Tha in the West End revival of The King and I, and, most recently, L in the English Premiere of Death Note the Musical in London. His voice is amazing and he really gets into his character's heads. The most recent example being L.
youtube
Timmy: Matt Doyle
Tumblr media
This man has played a vast amount of roles. His credits include Hanschen in Spring Awakening, Elder Price in the Book of Mormon, and Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of Company. But, he's mostly well known for playing Jaimie in the Tony winning revival of Company, WHICH HE WON A TONY FOR! I think he could definitely bring the nerdy and helpful energy to bring Timmy to life on stage.
youtube
Riven: Gus Halper
Tumblr media
What really sold me on him was his credit that that he's most well known for playing, Mischa Bachinsky in Ride the Cyclone. I feel like the character's two songs are both sides to Riven. He could bring the misunderstood bad boy energy while also getting vulnerable and emotional at moments.
youtube
youtube
Nabu: Michal Maliakel
Tumblr media
Currently, he's playing the lead role in Aladdin on Broadway. In the past, his credits include Cover Raoul in the International Tour of the Phantom of the Opera, George Nowack in She Loves Me, and Artie Green in the Kennedy Center production of Sunset Boulevard. I personally saw him as Aladdin and he was amazing. I feel like there are some similarities between the two characters so, I think he could bring the energy of the specialist that deserved better, Nabu.

2017 VoicePlay summer roundup — home and away and back again
As the weather grew warmer, VoicePlay's workload heated up for a bit before a combination of planned vacation time and an act of nature gave them a much needed break.
.
Lights, camera, action
The boys kicked off the summer by bringing Rachel Potter back to town for not just one, but two new videos. One was a feel-good Disney medley, and the other was some deliciously angsty pop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.
While Rachel flew home, and the other guys dispersed to do their own things, Layne met up with Tony and a slew of their theme park pals for PattyCake's next project.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.
Home time
For most of July, they seem to have hunkered down to finish some projects that were in progress, get started on new ones, and spend some quality time with friends and family. Layne even shared his recording studio (and a few doggie snuggles) with their old buddy Jeremy James from Vox Audio for a project.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Entertainers have to work on odd schedules sometimes.
Tumblr media
.
Rocky Mountain high
When August rolled around, the guys gathered up J.None and headed out west. They spent a week in Park City, Utah, and took a little side trip over to Salt Lake City to see their new friend John Pinto in The Book of Mormon tour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.
Splish splash
The boys had about a week at home before heading north for the Great Waters Music Festival in New Hampshire, where they were met with even more water than just Lake Winnipesaukee.
Tumblr media
.
During the week spanning the end of August and the beginning of September, the PattyCake gang finally started filming their long awaited "Grande Mermaid" video, both at an outdoor location and in their studio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.
Then Layne and Cyndi headed off to Cancun for their friends' seaside wedding. Many other folks from the Orlando performance community were in attendance and in the wedding party, including the bride, Michelle Knight, who PattyCake fans will recognize as their fabulous Evil Queen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.
Rock you like a hurricane
Once they got back home, they joined the rest of the gang in preparing for an oncoming storm as Hurricane Irma loomed closer to making landfall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time Irma reached the Orlando area, it had subsided to tropical storm status, but it still caused widespread flooding and power outages, downed trees, and damaged homes, as well as spawning several tornadoes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The VoicePlay guys and their loved ones were relatively lucky. Their biggest obstacle was Layne and Tony temporarily losing access to the beach location where PattyCake Productions had been filming "The Grande Mermaid".
.
Back to work
Once things had settled a bit, the boys snagged J.None once more and gathered to record their next "Aca Top 10" video, a countdown of Disney hero songs.
Tumblr media
.
Toward the end of the month, VoicePlay headed north to SUNY Geneseo for a concert as part of the school's Homecoming weekend. They didn't share any photos of themselves while they were there, but they did make time to partake of some local cuisine.
Tumblr media
.
When they got home again, Layne and Tony gathered a group of friends (including Michelle, fresh from her honeymoon) to portray a gaggle of live-action Disney baddies for PattyCake's second annual Halloween video.

do you mind going more in depth about why you don’t like dallon weekes
sure
besides in general being boring and a bit of a wet blanket, which i guess isnt a crime necessarily, dallon is a ridiculous narcissist
when i was 19 dallon used to check my blog all the time to see what i was saying about him. he knew i didnt like him and he would often formulate replies to posts i specifically was making about him, and post them on fb or twitter, not tagging me directly but essentially quoting my criticisms right after i'd post them
dallon recognized me at shows and directly called me out in public and at a m&g once for not liking him or making jokes about him online. at the time it felt playful or whatever but as time goes on i feel more and more like it was a display of insecurity and ego, to be so concerned by what some teenager was saying about him on the internet that he checked my blog often and felt he should respond to me publicly, or in person, about it
and im not the only person who experienced this type of shit with dallon, there was an incident way back in 2014 or 2015 where he and breezy essentially went after a group of teenage fans because they criticized them. thats the type of behavior that was normal for him at the time. he was a man in his 30s, theres no excuse
beyond all of that i think dallon is a little slimy coward. he will not and has not definitively publicly said anything truly staunchly negative about brendon, but he went back on posts from like 7 years ago to change the captions and allow people to infer he was somehow a victim
but anyone who was around during too weird or doab era will remember that dallon's behavior at that time othered him from both the fans and the rest of the band. he acts as if he was being bullied by brendon, but brendon didnt do anything to him that he didnt do to kenny or zack or dan or, previously, spencer. why is it do you think that dallon is the only person who has ever tried to imply that brendon was a bully? everyone else that has worked with him publicly, from dillon francis to every time i die to fucking TAYLOR SWIFT, has sung his praises, said he was humble and kind and gracious, and you will be hard pressed to find a fan interaction where he was rude, cruel, whatever
dallon is so obsessed with victimizing himself, when its obvious to me that he was never going to be comfortable around the guys because 1) he didnt drink and 2) he was the only one of them who was a father and had that level of responsibility and 3) he is a practicing mormon and brendon himself has very complicated and valid reasons for being against the LDS faith and how it affected him growing up. the themes brendon often wrote about were about religion, his feelings about it, whatever. there was so much religious and subsequently anti-religious themes in the music and that was inevitably going to be offputting to dallon. keep in mind this is the same person who would get upset if brendon was singing songs from the book of mormon on the bus
dallon would talk shit about brendon to fans while he was literally on tour with the band. theres recorded evidence of this. how does this dude get lauded as mature and reasonable when his actions are often so petty and immature?
dallon could not hear about an islamophobic attack without making it about himself. dallon regularly has tiptoed around homosexuality or feminism. and i dont even give too much of a shit about that because obviously i stan brendon and i recognize when people fuck up and grow or whatever, but its so funny to me that dallon gets that pass when brendon doesnt
dallon making these sideways comments about being poor or not paid enough will always annoy me too. 1) he was a touring musician, 2) brendon urie himself was not cutting his checks, fueled by ramen was, 3) he was receiving royalties off of too weird airplay and streaming and live performances (and he still is), 4) HE AND BREEZY LIVED IN BEVERLY HILLS AT THE TIME, like talk about willfully living above your means. and beyond that he got to travel the world playing music and staying in expensive hotels at no cost to him while receiving exposure for his former projects and any that he might be involved with in the future (which is how idkhow has had its level of recognition). he had adoring obsessive fans sending fanmail and gifts and he is now, years and years later, biting the hand that fed him
and its not lost on me that dallon started changing these ig captions and making these nebulous, purposefully-vague comments right when the public shift on brendon started going south for whatever reason
because hes a coward, and he knows that any issues with brendon are simply personal grievances. if he had anything on him, if brendon was truly this evil guy who did him direct harm, you know he'd fucking say so, but he wont
he is an ungrateful narcissist who wants to be the victim sooo bad, sorry a bunch of guys in the band were messing around with airsoft guns and you willingly played along, not just amongst them but on social media, as if these arent the same guys who tazed each other multiple times on camera just bc they thought it would be funny
dallon deliberately othered himself and is now quietly and surreptitiously trying to claim he was bullied without actually SAYING it. hes still getting FBR checks. notice how it isnt just panic that doesnt fuck w him anymore, its practically the entire label, including fob, people they literally toured with multiple times
just a coward. an absolute loser of a man. i thought god told you not to gossip. you fucking dick

Note
i would also say with the whole having brendon be the bad guy in this entire situation and we just need a good guy to worship and put on a pedestal can also apply to dallon as well. do i support dallon to trash brendon? yes. do i think he was treated horribly when in panic? yes. will i actually listen to his other projects? no.
Yeah I do think there's something to be said that Dallon and Brendon were never going to get along because Dallon is very Mormon and Brendon left the church. I think Dallon is very talented and I love his solo music but I personally would probably not get along with someone who tried to ban me from talking about Book of Mormon in shared spaces because of their religion either lmao, I would find that very annoying
But it's not cool to set someone's wife's breasts as your lockscreen photo because you're beefing and it's not cool to deliberately injure someone's hand when they're a performing musician on tour. A lot of people get hurt in Release the Bats, including with Airsoft/BB/paintball guns, and it's all in good fun, but they don't do stuff with people's hands because they need to play. That's just dumb and not appropriate and that could have been a career ending injury. It's not the same as getting shot in the ass or whatever
I think Dallon has every right to talk about those experiences and I enjoy his solo music but he didn't end Panic lol
