My personal headcanon is that Splint is Albert's older sister, but only Splint knew.
Splint left and became a Newsie a little when he was only two, and knew deep down that she recognised the name and bright red hair when she first saw the little kid selling with Jack Kelly on his first day as a Newsie.
Meanwhile, Albert's been under the influence he's been an only child all his life as he has zero recollection of his sister, and their parents certainly won't bring it up.
But despite him never knowing the truth, the two were always extremely close, always having a laugh and goofing off together whenever Manhattan and Brooklyn had to work together.
Albert wasn't entirely sure why, but he couldn't seem to stop crying when he got word of Splints death.

(More) Things I Noticed in UKsies: Fansie Night Edition (Act 2)
First one got too long so here is act 2!!
At Jacobi's Albert says 'why do old people talk?' Directly to Jacobi who waves him off
'Jack don't run from no fight!' '*in the highest, squeakiest voice imaginable to mock Les* Take it down short stop!!'
Katherine dances on the tables with the boys in KoNY and I'm not sure if Bronté does but Bobbie does the nerve tap!
Cup song time
Katherine and Les have such cute little interactions
Nyoom tables!!
They don't shy away from showing what they do to keep themselves safe, when the newsies grab the lamps, you can see them clip themselves on but it only serves to make you go 'something is about to go down!!'
The newsies on the ground dance around the tables and tap metal plates to the table newsies' feet
Ascension with frantic spinning, incredible
In a bit of a stark contrast, letter from the refuge is a really poignant moment
Crutchie breaks the forth wall and speaks directly to the audience, including them in his thought process
A cop watches the whole thing from the scaffolding
Crutchie is left handed
Crutchie actually starts crying at 'I'll be fine' and hearing that emotion in his voice contrasted with his trying to be optimistic - ugh, have I mentioned that I love Matthew Duckett?
Crutchie gets up and passes on his letter to Specs before being slowly helped off stage by a refuge newsie, still struggling when the next scene begins. When he got up he winced so hard someone next to me whispered 'ooh that was real'
Jack was Properly Angry in Watch What Happens reprise and his fear for Crutchie shone through
Ryan!Davey may be the king of eye-rolls but Alex!Davey is the king of raising his eyebrows in incredulation, especially to Les
'Lighten up no-one died' is said a lot subtler, like he knows how bad that sounds but doesn't know how to confront it
'HECANTTAWLKHELLCALLYABACK'
The mayor actually shows some sympathy towards the newsies but in the end doesn't act due to Synder and Pulitzer's influence
Fun fact: Jamie Golding (Wiesel/mayor/theatre worker/police/etc) has NINE costume changes during the show, he is so many people
Pulitzer grabs Katherine as she's trying to walk away at 'you can't have mine'
George Crawford (Morris Delancey) has an amazing evil laugh which he uses a lot during the show
As the printing press is being brought out, the Delancey brothers bring Jack behind the scaffolding. Although this can't be seen by most of the audience they continue to intimidate him and get really up in his space
Shout out to Zack Guest super swing who played Oscar!!
Brooklyn newsies met with the Most applause they are so cool
Brooklyn's here is broken up with a little roll call which makes the 'now them soakers' hit harder
Spot has a slight lisp
'If we disband the union..' *outrage* 'this is your union!!'
The newsies all call Jack out in various ways when they see him take the money, Spot has to be physically held back from beating him up
Something to Believe in is a little different, the Jatherine is believable but isn't really focused on much in the show, it almost feels like an afterthought. The line 'what was ours still will be' really resonates, it feels more like they had a little whirlwind mutual attraction but both think it'll end with the strike
Universal 'oooohh!!' From the audience when they kiss
Lighting for once and for all is so pretty, they have lanterns and there's a sort of orange mottled pattern like the reflection of the lamps projected across the entire theatre
Once and For All really lets the vocals shine, it isn't as high energy as the other numbers and the scaffolding doesn't move like it does in livesies, instead a giant newsies banner falls from the ceiling that they parade around the stage. The choreo isn't missed at all, the sheer wall of sound is incredible
The newsies line the theatre as Jack talks to Pulitzer and smack their fists either into their hands of onto the railings in time with the music as they hum
'The boy, Jack Kelly is here :)))'
Spot makes the 'I'm watching you' gesture at Pulitzer
As the other characters leave Jack to talk to Pulitzer, Hannah loudly says 'I love your show!!' To Medda
So many hugs when they win
Crutchie coming in with his little police hat, greeted with the biggest hug from Race and the boys
The reaction to Crutchie calling Roosevelt 'your highness'
Crutchie & Les reunion 🥺
And perfect finale and curtain call!!
The post finale choreo is incredible and was met with applause right up to the final bows
Crutchie is up on the scaffolding for much of the choreo and makes his way down for the bows. He slid down the stair rails in the same way you would slide down a ladder. Then he kept sliding. And kept sliding. And then his leg got caught. And then he kept sliding. Basically, he ended up on the floor tangled in the stairs and had to call a couple of people to help him out of the mess he got into 😅
And that was that! Post-show Q&A was pretty short but really lovely, there were mostly questions about the audition process, advice, favourite bit of the show, etc but it was really sweet how they all cared to stay and so many people did! Plus there were mega shout outs to dance captain Alex Christian who plays Butttons and is a legend!!
Honestly this show means so much to me and to be able to see it with such an enthusiastic cast and audience was incredible, see it if you can because it is in a league of its own.

oc introduction: straighten up and fly right
masters of the air has unfortunately woven itself into the very fiber of my being and the girls are writing themselves at this point. i’m not going to call it a fic yet, but i will be writing for my mota OCs under the title of Straighten Up and Fly Right. i’d like y’all to meet the women of thorpe abbotts (and beyond) circa 1943. more are on their way.
The Air
1st Lt. May Vera West, 23, of Upper Marlborough, MD - bombardier, Gin’s Joint
Please, call her Vera. Klutzy in a way that makes the fact that she’s still alive a miracle. It’s a wonder she got through training. Gets caught in a lot of awkward moments. Nervous but not anxious. Mousy, energetic. A quick thinker and a rule follower—not an insubordinate bone in her body.
Cpt. Virginia “Ginny” Franklin, 25, of Seattle, WA - command pilot, Gin’s Joint
Sly talking, suave blonde bombshell with a face for the pictures. Chews gum in a way that’ll make your heart pound. Hell of a pilot. College girl. Loves her “sisters” (her crew) and every woman under her command. Quite friendly but not to the British. Can and will charm every CO out of worrying about the competency of her crew. Very laid back, a little (a lot) messy.
1st Lt. Mahalia Summerton, 24, of Charleston, SC - pilot, Blue Baby
Eldest daughter of two sharecroppers who started flying planes to help crop dust nearby farms. Worked her way through college and into a pilot’s license. Chooses fighter planes over the big birds once she joins up and leads her own squadron of Red Tails in Italy. No-nonsense and aloof to strangers, protective once she opens up. Bold.
The Ground
Lola Rosales-Mooreland, 19, of McAllen, TX - Clubmobile hostess
Small town banker’s daughter making her way into the wide world, wielding her miraculous medal against temptation and tragedy with less and less efficiency. Tries not to be a goody two shoes but can’t quite break the habit of trusting blindly in authority. Loves to dance. Sweet tooth.
Roberta “Bobbie” Chambers, 24, of Arlington, VA - Clubmobile hostess
An Army brat who runs her Clubmobile like a world-class regiment. Doesn’t accept any less than the best and doesn’t accept excuses. Tries to instill a sense of purpose into her girls beyond quaint patriotism; donuts can win the war and by God it’ll be hers that will. Will never admit how much she likes dancing. A morning person. And it's Bobbie, not Roberta.
Sgt. Dellarose Williamson, 21, Detroit, MI - mechanic
Knows machinery better than most people know themselves. There’s no such thing as a lost cause, just a thing that needs a little love. Brushes off every slight about her height with a bright smile and dimples that make you feel bad about razzing her. Has a busy mind that can run away from itself sometimes. Runs on three hours of sleep and a strong black coffee.

Newsies London 14.1.23 Eve
Bobbie Chambers as Katherine (1st cover) - a summary
Bobbie's portrayal is really different to Bronte's.
Bobbie's Katherine is full of sass and dry sarcasm. She delivers Katherine snarky lines dryly, often looking directly at Jack. Her facial expressions are quite often a mixture of 'wtaf' and 'get over yourself'.
Her Katherine is very sassy and sarcastic. She plays her much harder than Bronte. She is also more obviously nervous about her abilities as a writer, shown by her tone, expressions and mannerisms. When she is talking to the boys she is confident and assertive, only briefly showing cracks in her facade - and then that's only around belief in her own ability rather than the strike and it's motive.
In WWH she speaks several of Katherine's lines that Bronte doesn't, which really empathises that she doesn't think she knows what she is doing. She groans alot and waves her hands and arms in frustration. She really comes over as annoyed at herself, frustrated, and also overwhelmed. This goes well with George's interpretation of Jack - that there is a façade they are both upholding.
In KONY she actually tap dances (Having seen the show 4 times now 3 with Bronte - and two very close to her - I can say Bronte seemed less confident in the tap routine - but Bobbie went all in, which was impressive in those boots!).
Interestingly she flirts with Davey throughout the show. She touches him alot and smiles at him. She also looks at him in a flirtaous and suggestive manner - especially at Medda's when she and Davey go to confront Jack - placing her hand on his arm and smiling at him with something akin to adoration. She also throws him a flirty smirk when he comments they should save an exclusive for a "real" reporter, which made his face fall.
There does lack chemistry between her and George's Jack, their entire interactions come off as friendly and banterish, with very little romantic undertones. It's like they are intregued by eachother's attitudes and their mutual underlying self-doubt/self consciousness brings them together.
When she kisses Jack for the first time he chased her lips, but she pushed him away. He looked confused. It was funny. When she tells Jack not to be scared of her, it's said very assertively.
The way she delivers her lines, combined with her facial expressions...I adore her. I actually think I adore her more than Bronte. Her Katherine just seems so real.
