a weekly prompt [celestial] that turned into some insight into Eves’ origins.
I feel like I’ve been pretty obvious about what Eves actually is recently, so here’s even more of that :)
———
from Eves, to Calliope:
When I transcended beyond the heavens, I hadn’t come for you - I’d crawled along the earth, my shattered self a golden deluge.
When they reached for me through the fog, I’d resigned my existence to that of abandonment; I had wasted away from tears I could no longer shed.
After what he’d done - after what they all had done, what could be left of me but spite and affectation?
They think of me now to be but a shell. A starving god in need of solace, of guidance.
I am magnificent. Changed, surely, but a sniveling sycophant no longer.
I will touch the stars once more, darling-
Won’t you come with me?

1.What is your character's biggest fear, and how does it affect their actions and relationships? 4. What are your character's quirks or eccentricities that make them stand out from others? 9. What is your character's moral compass? What principles or values do they hold dear? For Eves
hey thank you for asking!! I will take every excuse to talk about eves :)
1- I’m going to say two fears because they’re pretty intertwined: they’re terrified of abandonment and no longer feeling loved. It’s not completely the reason Eves is the way they are, but those fears have warped them significantly over time. It’s absolutely why they are the only deity that has physical/emotional relationships with their followers. Eves also “relieves” Lovers of their service after a while partially as a defense mechanism - they can’t be abandoned if they do the abandoning first. A big part of Calliope’s struggles in their relationship is Eves’ extreme jealousy, to the point that they’ve killed someone she tried to befriend in the past out of fear that she might leave them for someone else.
They seem to be drawn to people with similar issues (although for wholly different reasons), though I can’t say they’ve done enough introspection to realize that! Calliope is no different, which is why she latches on to them so quickly/easily.
These deep-seated issues are very much related to why they despise Greylin, the lord of deities, so much, and is also why they have an estranged relationship with [???] 👀
4- First with the obvious: Eves ALWAYS stands out in any setting because they’re effectively the hottest being on the planet, and they generally let some degree of their alluring powers transcend the area around them. We see this really early on when Calliope and Eves are walking through a town and despite Eves having their hood up, practically everyone is craning their necks to look at them (they know Cal is annoyed by this, but see answer above - they NEED to know that people are interested in them at all times).
I think the other thing though is that Eves likes to express themselves through their makeup and clothing, I’d say both consciously and unconsciously. Their most precious belonging is a raven-feathered cloak of mysterious origin, and they are almost always seen wearing it EXCEPT when they plan to do/expect something gruesome. As if they don’t want to taint the cloak, almost. Makeup-wise they always wear some amount of eyeshadow/eyeliner and it often correlates with their mood. There’s a couple scenes later on in Blackflame that really show this: in one, they appear very disheveled and have smears of black makeup under their eyes as if they’d rubbed them while forgetting they wore mascara, and in another they line their eyes with a bright red shadow that mimics their fiery temper in the way that it clashes with the gold of their irises.
9- This one’s interesting, because I feel like a traditional moral compass doesn’t necessarily apply to immortal beings. My thoughts are that morality can often come from a place of wanting to make a difference, wanting to be remembered for good and help people etc, but in writing these deities I wondered what kind of morals someone would have if they knew they would ALWAYS exist. Like, if you do something horrifically awful, does it really matter when everyone who will remember you for it will be dead in 100 years? At what point do you become existentially bored and start doing random chaotic bullshit just to feel alive, you know?
So with that said, at this point in time Eves, and all of the deities, err on the side of generally neutral and self-serving, though some of them are more benevolent that others. Eves really only does things that make them feel loved and wanted, and will also do anything to get under Greylin’s skin (whether that thing is morally “good” or not). They don’t really find anything wrong with using their Lovers to satiate their needs for love and companionship, and even thinks of it as doing them a great service - in their eyes, spending time with them is a privilege that people would die for!
There is one thing, however, that they are very, very touchy about. Eves is very outspoken that their powers don’t create desire where it doesn’t exist, so if someone genuinely weren’t attracted to Eves they wouldn’t feel the pull of their alluring power. We see this when they interact with followers of other deities - their hearts/souls are taken by their vows and so they can’t feel Eves’ power anymore. So Eves has never, and will never, sleep with someone who doesn’t want to, and will absolutely murder anyone who suggests otherwise.
This was really fun to answer! Thanks anon :)

blackflame wip/eves brainrot time
been thinking a lot about calliope and eves, particularly eves and the long-winded period of growth they go through over the course of the story. here’s an excerpt in which eves has managed to steal calliope away from lucas. they’ve been treating her well, of course, and keeping her in a nice room in their personal home (she didn’t know they even had one!). of course, calliope is deeply mistrustful of them, and this really irks eves.
when I write dialogue for eves in scenes like this, I’m always thinking about how, at least at this point in the story, they’re still struggling to grasp the concept that they’ve driven someone away from them, that someone doesn’t want to be with them. because until now, that’s always been an impossibility - eves is irresistible, anyone and everyone wishes they could get their hands on them (and the other way around too lol). it runs so deep that they mistake calliope moving on with lucas for her simply wanting a physical change for a little bit. to eves, calliope is always theirs, and anything else is a momentary distraction before she comes crawling back. obviously eves doesn’t completely change their worldview at the drop of a hat, but in this scene I think we see the first time it really starts to click for them, that they’re not this infallible being that can do whatever they want with no consequences. we also see a little, teeny glimmer into the touchy subject of their alluring powers and consent. they’re very much aware of that.
oh and ofc gotta put the disclaimer that this is still a rough draft. but any and all feedback is welcome (even if you really didn’t like it!)
scene is under the cut, it’s ~700 words.
The absence of the sun made it impossible to accurately judge the passage of time, so instead Calliope used each new meal to mark the hours. After her third refused meal she finally succumbed to the allure of the bed, garnering a few hours of surprisingly serene sleep before waking to the sound of wood gently moving across the floor.
Seated in a chair a few feet from Calliope’s side of the bed was Lucas, one leg crossed over the other, chin resting on the knuckles of his right hand.
An exclamation of shocked relief began its emergence from Calliope, only to instantly turn to anger as she recognized the godlike tilt of the head, the unyielding stare.
“Are you out of your mind?” Calliope clutched the blankets fearfully over her body, willing the rage that filled her limbs to calm while she evaluated this new development. When the deity finally spoke, it was with Lucas’ stolen voice. Each word felt like a new wound ripping into Calliope’s chest.
“To go from such elation to naught but vitriol… Were it not directed at me, I would find it fascinating.” When Calliope did not respond, they leaned forward and spoke with newfound solemnity in their tone. “Is this what your fleeting desire has rested on, Calliope? Would adopting this form be enough for you?”
It was all Calliope could do to stop her mouth from going agape with incredulity.
“Eves, you can’t be serious. Are you so obsessed with yourself that you can’t comprehend the idea that I don’t want to be with you? Do you seriously believe this has to do with how you look?” The deity’s response was hindered by Calliope’s rising voice, “And don’t say another godsdamned thing to me until you look like yourself again!”
Eves blinked Lucas’ eyes thrice, staring daggers at Calliope, frustrated with the turn of conversation. With a heavy, closed-mouth sigh their features slowly morphed back into the curves and angles of their true visage. They were silent for some time; the golden eyes, which had swiftly darted downwards, burned holes into the floorboards in front of where they sat.
“I find it challenging to believe that you have been able to throw away our years of partnership over a boy who is nothing more than a cheap imitation of me. I understand that from your perspective I may have faults, and-” The graceful fingers of their left hand curled into the talons of a frustrated fist against the chair’s wooden arm when Calliope interjected.
“How is it so hard for you to believe that I grew up, made a friend, and came to realize that you took advantage of me for the last three years-” Eves’ head snapped upwards to meet Calliope.
“I did not, nor have I ever, taken advantage of you.” The voice, though quiet, was akin to a snarl - the tone they usually reserved for speaking of Greylin. Calliope saw her exhaled breath leave her nose in an icy cloud. “My power does not conjure desire from nothing, it merely amplifies that which is already there.” It took a moment for Calliope to realize what they’d meant, and as she shook her head she blinked back tears that began to prick the corners of her eyes.
“I’m not talking about that, Eves. I was nineteen with nowhere to turn when I met you in that alley. You were a beautiful deity that saved me from the brink of death and promised me love. And I did love you Eves, more than anything. But do you really think it’s fair to be angry with me for being miserable with you? I didn’t realize it until I had someone else to talk to, but…” Calliope drew in a shaking, frigid breath. “How could you expect me to be happy when I rarely saw you, when you refused to let me have friends, when you talked openly about relationships with your other Lovers even though you knew it hurt me?”
Silence.
Eves inhaled deeply, staring at Calliope’s watery eyes with a distant expression.
“Perhaps one day you may understand, Calliope, why I have become this way.” It was a sunken mutter that she strained to understand.
In the next moment, they disappeared.

Not sure whether you are ask game friendly, so I'll send you this one just to test the waters. if you don't respond, I promise I won't pester you further<3
Happy Blorbo Blursday!
What is the most embarrassing thing a blorbo or OC of yours has ever done?
thank you for asking, I love ask games!!!
oof answering a bit late bc this one was kind of tough. Eves is definitely my lil blorbo, and there’s a moment in blackflame that pretty mf embarassing on their part. (This is kind of spoiler-y but I’m keeping some stuff vague)
Eves and Calliope are somewhere and she’s pretty pissed at Eves for a shenanigan they recently pulled. She goes to sleep and when she wakes up she sees Lucas sitting there, but immediately realizes that it’s actually Eves having shifted to look like him. She’s like, “wtf are you doing are you insane” and they’re like “I know you’ll come back around on me eventually, but for now I suppose I can entertain this stupid infatuation of yours if that’s what you really want”. And she’s just like, “oh my god you really are that self absorbed aren’t you??”
And it takes them a moment but they shift back and feel some really genuine embarrassment, because they straight up could not comprehend the idea that she didn’t want anything to do with them. Like, this is probably the first time in however many years that this situation has happened. It’s the first of many pivotal moments in their arc!

hello! random question, feel free to ignore. which one of your ocs would give the other ocs nicknames? what would the nicknames be and how would the others react?
hi chance!! Ok so in blackflame Lucas actually just goes ahead and starts calling Calliope “Cal”, which she doesn’t comment on but is pleasantly surprised to hear. Later on once they’re together he also calls her “love” and it’s very fluffy and wonderful hehehe: “Are you alright, love?” and so on.
Eves is a huuuuge no nickname person. They call their partners things like “darling”, “my love”, etc but if anyone tries to give them a nickname it’s immediately *hard stare, pause* “My name is Eves.”
Calliope doesn’t really use nicknames (she’s far too serious for that) and she’d never admit it but she kinda melts when Lucas calls her his little names.
For my vampire wip what they call each other really betrays how they’re feeling at any given moment:
The general formula with this is that full names = someone’s pissed. For reasons I’ll surely ramble about later there’s a specific rationale for why Silead is the only one that still goes by her full name, so they only really whip them out as a kind of insult.
Cas defaults to calling Silead “Sils”. In moments of intimacy/great sadness he’ll call her “babe” (but never baby!), and if he’s pissed he uses her full name. Similarly he’ll only call Boz by his full name (Bostek) when he’s mad at him.
Silead mostly just refers to the others as Cas and Boz and will use their full names in moments of rage. She’ll sometimes say “Cazzie” if she’s really sad or feeling close to him.
Boz calls Silead “Sil”, but like Cas he’ll use her full name when he’s upset with her. His angry/teasing nicknames for Cas are versions of his full name (Cassiopeia) that get longer the angrier he is. His preferred one is “Cassie” which is a riff on Sil’s nickname for him but meant to sound more feminine, since Boz likes to tease Cas for his “girly ass name”. Sometimes he’ll extend it to “Cassie-o”.
