Birdflight!

Design Notes:

This is actually the exact same drawing as the last Bridflight/Runningwind design I posted, I just added my little eye shine thing I started doing and I added my preferred font for the names!

Bird is a dilute red tabby, but he's a dusty color which makes him a bit more brown like in his canon description! I made him this color so that Sandstorm's color could be explained! She takes after Bird a lot!

Title meaning: -flight = this is an especially fast cat and/or a cat especially good at jumping; this cat always has energy

Hunt Charge of Thunder Order; Birdflight is one of the fastest and adept hunters of the Order, something he passed on to his daughter Sandstorm.

Mothers: Fogtalon (biological); Leopardfoot

Sire: Sparrowpelt

Siblings: Mousebite

Mate: Redtail

Kits: Sandstorm; Poppy; Flint

Extra notes: Sandstorm got her confidence from him, Bird also spoiled her way too much, but he just loved his kit a lot <3

Sandstorm reminded Bird so much of his older sister Mousebite, it was uncanny how similar of personalities they had. He as glad that Mouse wasn't made Sand's mentor, he feared that the two paired together would be an unstoppable force of sass and mockery.

As the peacock fly

I had wanted to take a photo of indian peacocks actually flying for years. The large and heavy birds with their train of feathers are able to fly, but often they prefer walking. Flying is hard work.

Not this one. He and his flock of peafowls where walking on the roofs of the buildings of the Lamido palace in Ngouandéré. Getting around meant flying. And I spent some quality time walking after them waiting for the jump and flight.

The local chieftain/king/Lamido in Nguandere had this old, classic symbol of power and wealth - peacocks wandering free in his private gardens.

They are not elegant flyers.

Royal symbol

The indian name for peafowl is Mayura, meaning killer of snakes. Understandably, a fashion statement that is actually useful probably help them being closely connected to culture and power.

Killing of snakes is also symbolic for cycling of time.

According to myths, the Mayura was created by feathers from Garuda, a highly important birddemigod in hinduism and buddhist culture.

Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, have peafowl as her symbol.

Birdflight (aka. Runningwind)! I made him look more like Sandstorm bec she’s his daughter in my au! (and in my heart for canon too) 

I renamed him Birdflight because I didnt like his old name, it just doesn't fit naming conventions, and I don't like first suffixes that give a description that couldn't be known about a kit. I went with Birdflight because it still has a speedy feeling to it, also Squirrelflight’s name can be in reference to her grandfather! 

I made him a light brown/ tan color, i think genetically he is dilute which is how Sand is dilute, though that doesn't really matter too much because i dont follow genetics much anymore lol. I think this color just makes sandstorm’s pelt color make more since and makes her look more believably like Bird and Redtail’s kit!
