Billy Jensen - A Published Author

Billy Jensen is a famous investigative journalist and crime writer who used his experience researching stories to begin solving cases himself. He was the co-founder of the Long Island Press newspaper, and he has a master’s degree in religious studies from the University of Kansas. During his time in college, he played professional roller hockey, notably earning the first minor penalty in Major League Roller Hockey history. Mr. Jensen has been featured on podcasts, television specials, and in print.

Book review- 4 stars It's been years since I've read any nonfiction...but when I did, true crime was 90 percent of it. When I won this in a giveaway I knew it kismet. This reads like part memoir, part true crime documentary ( which makes up 50 percent of what I watch on tv. Some weeks it's 100 percent.) While I was in it for the murder stories ( yes I get that that sounds weird but I mean from like a clinical POV. Not in a I'm getting off on this stuff kind of way), I got really sucked in by Jensen's stories about his dad. So when I get to the chapters with the crimes, I found myself more invested. I'm really glad this was my first book back into non fiction. We now know that video was found for Malcolm Harsch, his family has viewed it and determined he took his own life. We still don’t know what happened to Robert Fuller. What I do know, firsthand, is that the LA Sheriffs deemed it a suicide immediately, didn’t canvas the area for cameras for at least 5 days, all the while lying there were no cameras. When shown there were cameras, they went to a couple of businesses (I asked 7 on Friday, only 2 said they were talked to by LASD). And the best shot at capturing footage—Ocho A photography studio, 50 yards with a clear shot of the tree—well, their footage wipes every 24 hours. That was the best chance. A black man is found hanging from a tree in front of city hall during the middle of the biggest civil revolution of our lifetime? You get the cameras immediately. You investigate as if it is a homicide and do the work. They should have worked overtime to find answers instead of working overtime to “control the crowd” who came out to demand answers. At best, bad police work creates distrust. And that’s what is happening in Palmdale (and across the nation). That’s why this police officer is pointing a weapon into the crowd during a protest. Because they did a piss poor job investigating and an even worse job messaging to the public. This is just a small example of why massive changes are needed.
