n+1 utterly ridiculous plans for PoI fix-its

I do like Beth. In fact, before those pesky meta-textual implications got to me, I was convinced she and Harold had way more chemistry between them than Harold and Grace.

That could have been so exciting to have her as an unwitting spy in Samaritan camp, doing her beautiful science and making us wonder if the other AI is really so unequivocally evil.

Instead, the way her storyline ends kinda makes you wonder what was the point of starting it in the first place.

Especially if the most fascinating thing about it is what body part Harold used to concoct a plan that relies on

* finding a trustworthy accomplice half way across the world (when, unlike me, the writers consider 3x16 canon, don’t they?);

* Beth not starting to scream thus attracting a lot of attention and spooking the fake thief;

* Beth agreeing not to call the police – instead of giving Harold a wide breath while doing exactly that;

* noone taking notice of Harold randomly hitting a delivery guy in the middle of the street;

* and the thief not stealing any of Beth’s files in order to sell them back to her later, thus exposing the whole scheme.

Because, had Harold used his brain, he would have just hired that guy to pour coffee/soy sauce on Beth’s laptop, then graciously offered to fix it and blushingly admitted to wanting to impress her if she ever found out that was not an accident.

Also, I’m no expert, but I strongly suspect that hiding a piece of code in an email is a far more credible way to activate a computer programme than applying an external device to a switched-off laptop.  

Finally, nothing (except for the authors’ annoying persistence in shoving Root in the middle of any significant plot development) explains why the hell the Machine is not contacting John when Harold is 11 minutes away from certain death :-E

SPD OT5 playlist!

This one's a little different: because there's not just one one-shot for them and instead a sort of miniseries within the big series, I decided to just put together all the songs for their fics in one place. It ended up being not that much longer than the other playlists because I can't find my notes for the original SPD fic, so I just have the songs I literally indicated in the fics themselves, plus one or two additions that fit the VibesTM.

Anyway, say hi to the SPD OT5, who just like Jayden/Antonio, you cannot convince me wasn't canon in the original story. Like, have you SEEN the SWAT arc? The sleepovers? The fact that the entire series' backbone is their growing relationship with each other? S.P.D. more than any other series feels like a story about the relationship of the team, the underdogs against the world, and clearly that bled into my inspiration at the time as S.P.D. got like eleven fics and 42k+ words total? INCLUDING a couple of spin-offs involving their daughter and Dani Rocca (Chip/Xander/Vida's daughter) joining the team?

Anyway, I'm going to link the miniseries here instead of the one-shot fic for those exact reasons.

Season 1, Episode 28: The Bridges of Dad and Son County

Favorite Moment: The reveal at the end.

General Thoughts:

Oh man, the sad Scam Likely hold music. Forgot about that one.

So, the way I've been doing these is that I start these drafts and then leave my draft open while I'm listening. I'll occasionally pause the episode when something hilarious, thought-provoking, or something I forgot about pops up, I'll type it into my notes and then resume the episode.

I took almost no notes on this episode because I was just enjoying the re-listen. It was hard to turn my brain on for analyzing. So, I only typed up the bit about the Scam Likely hold music at the beginning. Because when I do a lot of my re-listens, I skip the intros and table talk to get right into the episode, so I've forgotten a lot of these intros and dad facts.

This is one of those episodes that is just so engrossing for me. The plan is put into motion. And it succeeds. And the best part - it succeeds with a twist.

Grant was able to keep the orb, getting all the kids back to the van, Doug was able to pilot the drone, and the dads "successfully" communicated with the purple robes to make it out to the bridge. These are some of the moments that make players feel awesome and powerful. When a plan goes well and they're rolling great.

But then Anthony throws in this great reveal. The bad dudes? Yeah, the ones that have been annoying them and telling them they're bad dads? Turns out, they're their fathers. My mind was blown on my first listen. Definitely one of those moments, where I verbalized my "whhaaaaa????" that usually just happens in my head. It doesn't matter how many times I listen to it - this reveal is so cool to me. I've listened to the last 10 minutes of this episode probably 20-30 times (and I've only been listening since January).

Next episode - one of my favorite combats. And a true introduction to the man we all love to hate: Willy Stampler.

Hi buddy! I'm sending another round of questions for Sunday Writeblr Ask-A-Thon! My question to you is: Do any of your characters have any favourite media, real or stuff you made up?

Hello again, Athena!!

The answer is yes, of course.

In terms of real media, we definitely see certain characters engaging with music and movies they would like. Tiff Sheridan canonically listens to real-world bands like Mommy Long Legs, Skating Polly, and Bratmobile; she also idolizes to the in-universe Gunk Shot And The Scream Queens. Likewise, Mikey Marks from Impish listens to Paramore in the first chapter (and is obsessed with Tetris?), and I think I mentioned Rory Skiff (STG) listening to The Dollyrots? (That one might have been Sloane. I would check, but my editing document is mocking me.) That's to say nothing of Roux (Impish) and their obsession with classic monster movies.

There is, of course, a lot of in-universe media for various things. Bloodsaw's favorite movie is the in-universe version of a two-part Slasherflick game we played on Re:Roll. It's called Camp Bloodshed. It's a classic summer camp slasher, but with robots. (This is where the "OJ Simpson was the Terminator" thing comes from. The canon was that, because Arnold Schwarzenegger was playing the killer robots, OJ Simpson got the role.)

They really looked up to Zero as a character, even though she was the first counselor to die (she was set up as the protagonist but the director, who was also gay, hated women or something); and there's a little thread they have of comparing Tiff to Blake (which makes more sense if you remember the lost second part of that series, where Blake steps up and also gets his wizard robe stolen, and also that they both, like Rory Skiff, love Ray Bradbury).

In contrast, we've seen that Tiff prefers movies about mad scientists and particularly about reanimation. When I played her in This Godless Endeavor, I had her dressed like Tiffany Valentine under her lab coat for a reason, and I've definitely mentioned things like Re-Animator and Frankenstein Created Woman as some of her favorites.

Gunk Shot is also a big thing, since I have plans to bring them in for something I'm writing. It's another one of those "the real story, as opposed to the story you heard" kind of deals. They were a feminist punk band from the mid-2000s with a horror gimmick. Every member was supposedly murdered. The truth is, Elektra Lennix, their keyboardist, is now undead. Obviously the music still lives on; I keep referencing their Bucket album, which has to do with eyeballs.

I know I mentioned Mikey liking Tetris. (That's because it's my favorite video game and Tetris was the thing distracting me from finishing that novel, by the way.) I'm trying to think of what Eve's favorite things were in Unfinished Business, but I'm coming up blank. I referenced The Smiths a couple times, so I would imagine that's what her favorite band was?

Honestly, like-- horror movies and music are the two big things.

He was never even really alone with her

He wouldn't even interact with her himself unless it was absolutely necessary

But that didn't matter to you

All that mattered was that he had slept with her while the two of you were on a break

And that was enough for you to never want her near him again

But that just 'wasn't possible' according to Rio

And while he had been understanding and patient in the beginning, you still were on about it months down the line

"It's business. I have to talk to her. Thats the way this works. I barely even see the lady. Chill the fuck out."

You huffed, fingers coming up to pinch the bridge of your nose in anger and frustration

"Whatever. It's whatever. You don't get it and there's no possible way for me to make you get it. Who gives a fuck. Shouldn't even let it get to me. I fucked that dude when we were split anyway so I guess we're even."

You turned away from him, anticipating that the argument was over

You were talking more to yourself than him after all

You walked into the living room and plopped yourself down on the couch, expecting that he would follow you and come sit beside you

But when you turned, he was still standing in the exact same spot

"........What the fuck did you just say?"

Your eyes widened slightly before they narrowed

"Oh please. Don't even start. We just had this whole argument about how it doesn't matter what happened on the break, so spare me."

You crossed your arms over your chest and leaned back into the couch, bringing your legs up to cross them as well

Rio's steps were slow as he approached you, head tilted

"I know...I didn't hear what I think I just heard."

You kept your eyes on him silently as he made his way over to you

All the way until his knees were against the sofa and he leaned down

Hands pressing into the couch on either side of you

Eyes dark as night as he stared at you

"You fucked who?"

You swallowed, mouth open for a few seconds before you actually spoke

"Just some guy. Met him at a club. It was nothing."

Rio nodded, anger rolling off of him in waves

"Tell me about this him. What was his name?"

And your rebuttal didn't help

"I know you're not about to sit here pissed that I slept with someone I've never even seen again, when you fucked Mrs. Better Homes and Gardens and you see her ass every week."

His jaw ticked but he said nothing, knowing that you were right

Standing up straight, he kept his eyes on you, fingers pointing threateningly as he came to sit down beside you

"Let me catch that motherfucker."
