Hi Anon, thanks for the question and uhhhh I have four main OCs that I had to separate into two different worldstates since I refuse sad endings for any of them hahaa so here’s the four of my main OCs! (forgive me, all of them are genderfluid and all four are Filipinos - one is Filipino by appearance, two based off of pre-colonial Filipinos in culture and fashion and one is Spanish colonial based rip)

Also my Clan Lavellan got redone into Clan Bagaoisan (god i love this particular name) so haha pre-colonial Filipino Dalish elf clan with the beautiful fashions of the era and fine, maybe a very small sprinkling of Spanish colonial era for Dalisay cause they try to blend in so as to not bring negative attention to them or their companions fgvsxiuf also sorry Anon, I’m just gonna put in their romances in the parentheses and if you have questions just slide them in the asks! Anyway to celebrate not dying in the Deep Roads and also as a housewarming gift, I decided to commission a portrait for you. It’s by this new popular painter from Antiva. Hang it somewhere good.

I decided to shade the Benedicta portrait and NGL I’m much more satisfied with it now! It’s a wonder how shading was able to make it pop out a bit more. I also figured out how to do hair a lot better now without sacrificing my preferred shading style so another victory!

A portrait of Benedicta Alejandra Hawke y Amell by Antivan painter, Guglielmo Benedetti as commissioned by Varric Tethras

Finally figured out how I wanted to do portraits so I’ll be reworking some OC portraits based off of how I’d want to make them look as a painting of sorts. Anyway, this is Benedicta’s portrait commissioned by Varric as a gift both for surviving the Deep Roads Expedition and also as a congratulatory gift for making it out of poverty. Benedicta actually didn’t see that coming that they would be painted and so just sat there without any further poses since they’ve never been painted before. After the painting was finished, Varric took one look at it before going “close enough” while Anders was just lowkey smug cause the ribbon he bought for Benedicta as his “Glad You Didn’t Die In The Deep Roads” gift made it into the portrait. 

The portrait is hung inside Benedicta’s study since they feel awkward having a giant painting of themself being hung outside as if giving themself airs. Varric may say it’s well deserved but they don’t want to seem arrogant.

Ever since I drew Benedicta, Anders and Fenris I have been dying to know more about them.

Because I'm a Leandra whore I want to know about your All That Remains moment. I would love to know the dynamic of how they comfort Benedicta and just how those three get along in general. I can see Benedicta having to corral a lot of fights lol but in that moment I definitely see Anders and Fenris setting their differences aside to help Benedicta through that.

So here's the thing about Leandra and Benedicta's relationship. It's horribly complicated and a bit of a big mess. I don't think Leandra hates Benedicta but she favours Bethany over Benedicta and it is very obvious. (Some of my Leandras aren't the best mothers while some of my Leandras have great relationships with my other WS Hawkes)

So like, Benedicta grew up having to understand this weird expectation of being a caregiver, a parent, a breadwinner, a protector and so many things that if they don't succeed in doing that it makes them feel ill and anxious. Like they weren't physically hurtful but Benedicta was hurt and for years they just thought it was normal.

When she blamed Benedicta for not saving Bethany it was really because she expects Benedicta to since Benedicta's been shouldering everything for the family post-Malcolm death and it just kinda normalised this expectation for Benedicta to do these sorts of things. Then the Deep Roads Expedition happened and Leandra chooses Carver over Benedicta. "You, I could understand but leave your brother out of this." When Benedicta returned from the expedition without Carver, they got struck by Leandra hard enough to make them fall to the floor and have bruising on their face. Benedicta ended up leaving Gamlen's home to stay over at Fenris', Anders' and Varric's places. (Merrill wanted to offer her home but she realised it was too close to Gamlen's place so she chose to just constantly visit Benedicta instead)

Anyway, come Act 2 and we have Leandra proposing various suitors to Benedicta who had politely turned each of them down until Benedicta ended up sleeping with Fenris and Leandra decided that that meant Benedicta and Fenris were gonna get married now that Benedicta slept with someone. Of course, we know how the song and dance went with Fenris leaving after having sex. Benedicta respected his need for space and would only call on him or ask for his help when absolutely necessary. A few weeks later, Benedicta starts getting sick and a week later, Bodahn decides to call Anders over since Anders had been taking care of Benedicta ever since they formed a very close friendship in the later parts of Act 1 (especially thanks to the Deep Roads where Anders got exposed to Benedicta's side that involves them singing lullabies to Carver or singing a nonsense song they learned to sing as a child). Anyway, Anders finds out from Benedicta about the sleeping with Fenris things and adds two and two to find out they're pregnant. He gives them the option of keeping it or not and Benedicta chooses to keep it so Anders went into doctor mode (I HC him as someone who had helped care for pregnant mages back in Kinloch Hold as well as someone who helped deliver the babies). Benedicta swore Anders into secrecy tho into keeping their pregnancy from Fenris, at least until they have to tell him since they don't want Fenris to feel obligated to stay with them and they refuse to give Fenris another crisis over anything.

So we have Anders who stays with Benedicta to make sure they're taking care of themself - or taking care of them when they're unable to - and we have Fenris pining. Fenris actually assumed that Benedicta and Anders got together and was lowkey jealous anytime Anders would shield Benedicta from anything he suddenly considered was dangerous or whenever Anders would send Benedicta off to safety when they get ambushed.

Then All That Remains happened and Anders almost slipped into allowing Justice to take over too many times, Fenris watched as Benedicta's normally calm and warm and gentle face crumpled into grief and anguish as they held Leandra and they cried over Leandra after telling them how proud she was of them. But that wasn't even the worst of it all. On the day of Leandra's funeral, Bodahn sent two letters. One to an abandoned Hightown estate, another to a drab clinic in Darktown. Fenris arrived first and Bodahn was escorting Orana and Sandal out, smoke was coming out of the window of Benedicta's room and Fenris panicked. He ran to Benedicta's room and saw it in flames and there, in one corner was Benedicta sobbing. Fenris ran in and didn't care if the fire touched him, he noticed that Benedicta's fire spells never harmed anyone they called friend, and when he got to Benedicta, he pulled her close.

"I loved her, Fenris, I loved her and it was unfair. It was unfair of her to make me into who I am now."

Those were the words she sobbed as he held her because, at that moment, it finally sank in that all their life, what they were raised to be was wrong. Was unfair for a child and unfair for even an adult to feel this responsibility over the fate of their family, of their home, or perhaps even the world. Benedicta mourned Leandra but they were also finally, finally angry about what they experienced. They wanted to shout at their mother but it was too late. So all they could do was cry in both grief and frustration.

Anders' arrival ended the fire with him filling the room with frost to end the inferno caused by Benedicta's emotions.

"Let me, Fenris, I know how to help."

Fenris didn't want to let go since Benedicta was still holding onto him tightly but he did, choosing to trust Anders in this. He watched as Anders spoke to Benedicta in hushed words and allowed Benedicta to lean on him as they calmed down, he was chanting "Forgive yourself." to them like a prayer and a spell. It took a very mild sleeping spell from Anders to help Benedicta calm down completely. Anders offered to take Benedicta to his clinic and Fenris agreed, adding that he will drop by to make sure they were safe.

After ensuring that Bodahn, Orana and Sandal were safe, Fenris and Anders worked together to fix Benedicta's burned room. Bodahn helped and Orana dropped by with new things to replace the broken and burned ones. Fenris and Anders set aside their differences in that instance though neither will admit it or the fact that they grew to even like the other's help and presence and when Benedicta woke up, the two were also there to help. (Merrill helped Benedicta with processing their sense of responsibility being fucked up but Anders and Fenris were the ones that started them opening up about what they went through growing up.)

OC Theme Song - Main WS Edition

I decided to focus on my main WS OCs first so the next time this goes around I could focus on my other worldstates.

Paraluman Surana - Liwanag sa Dilim by Yeng Constantino

Ituring ang iyong sariling tagahawi ng ulap Sa kalangitang kulimlim Kampanang yayanig sa bawat nilalang Magigising ang lupang kulang sa dilig Ikaw ang magsasabing, "Kaya mo 'to" Tulad ng isang tanglaw sa gitna ng bagyo Isigaw mo sa hangin, tumindig at magsilbing Liwanag, liwanag sa dilim Harapin mong magiting ang bagong awitin Ikaw ang liwanag sa dilim

Liwanag sa Dilim translates to Light in the Dark. It’s a song of hope and with Paraluman, it fits her role in the story quite well.

Though hesitant with taking the lead, Paraluman eventually grows into her role as a leader and even encourages hope among others in any way she can. From promising Jowan his chance to escape to Redcliffe and even in Broken Circle where she tells Wynne of a chance to avoid annulling the circle, she keeps trying to find slivers of hope that would spell their success or even just their survival.

Liwanag sa Dilim makes use of a tune that just keeps trying to pull you up which is how Paraluman’s character arc also fits. She often tries to give hope to others and throughout the story, she also starts growing as a person, seeing herself as deserving of a better life and a different fate. 

Benedicta Alejandra Hawke y Amell - Ikaw ang Aking Mahal by Regine Velasquez

To translate, the song is about someone who had grown used to a life where they were treated unfairly and how fate seems like it’s evading them and how they can’t move and that their very being is just running out. The person wonders if this is the life they will have to lead whether they like it or not. 

Until they met someone who made them dream and hope that this person they met could save them.

The third verse is the person asking if they could be embraced or kissed. How this person they met is everything to them and how the person singing is wondering if this person they met is the love they were waiting for. The singer continues with pleas for the person they met not to leave them, for this person they met not to hurt them before reiterating how they are everything to the singer and that this person is their love.

This fits Benedicta all too well who gave up so much to help and be a filial child to their family at the cost of their health, their dreams and everything else. It wasn’t until they got to Kirkwall and met Anders, Varric, Fenris, etc. that they had people reminding them to put themself first aside from Carver.

Ikaw Ang Aking Mahal stands in for Benedicta’s plea that the people they grew to love in Kirkwall do not hurt them and that they would stay with them during a time they needed most.

Dalisay Kato Bagwisan - Sa Ugoy ng Duyan by Ice Seguerra

Sana'y di magmaliw ang dati kong araw Nang munti pang bata sa piling ni nanay Nais kong maulit ang awit ni inang mahal Awit ng pag-ibig habang ako'y nasa duyan

Sa Ugoy ng Duyan. To The Cradle’s Rocking. This song is about the singer reminiscing the days where they were in their cradle and expressing a wistful desire to return to those days. It’s a lullaby that I liked singing along to, listening to and back then, listening to my mother sing to me. It was often soft and sweet, almost dreamy and the whole song just fits Dalisay.

Dalisay had been traumatised by the circle she ended up in, she had seen and experienced things she shouldn’t have had to. Because of that, Dalisay for a time just wants to go back to the simpler times of her youth where she didn’t have to be scared and where she was more eager with meeting people outside of her immediate family. Not only that but the song also fits this soft wistful tone I like thinking Dalisay does tend to have and even speak with.

Ginoong/Atubang Mahalina Kato Bagwisan - Nyebe by SB19

'Di ko na alam ang aking gagawin pa Ako'y kuntento na basta alam kong tayo'y humihinga pa Sa dami ng pinagdaanan ay hindi ko na Alam kung paano pa ba ako magiging masaya

Nyebe is a song that hits with talking about loneliness and anxiety and so many other emotions that would need comfort and gives you that comfort. I decided to use this for Mahalina as a way to nod to his grief about losing his best friends but also it speaks of how he began feeling throughout Inquisition. He does his duty as a leader of the group but he knows he doesn’t belong in any of these circles, he just wanted to go back home, raise his daughters and be with his mother. He loves Cassandra but he wouldn’t force her to go back to his home with him. Cassandra does eventually tell him she wants to see his home and they do eventually get married to each other but when the relationship was starting, he didn’t want to risk anything.

It became this numbing cold feeling that he pushes past or tries to live with that finally thawed and faded away when he and Dalisay decided to dissolve the Inquisition. He spent two years away from his home and people, his small contingent of Clan Bagwisan members spent two years away from family. They just wanted to go back at the end. 

Nyebe fits this as Mahalina’s homesickness is there but also his way of missing loved ones could be used to appear in the lyrics too and since he normally appears so sure and unshakeable to his people, the line of “I know it’s impossible/But why is snow falling?” fits cause this feeling is basically uncharted and never felt until now for him save for his grief.

Himagsikan Marikit Kato Magsumakit - Sabel by Ben&Ben

Sinubukan ka nilang pilayin Sinubukan ka nilang patahimikin Akala ba nila, hahayaan mo sila? Hindi na Sinubukan nga akong sirain Katotohana'y sinubukang baliktarin Akala ba nila, hahayaan ko sila? Hindi na

This song has English subs and it’s perfect for Himagsikan due to the song about how “Sabel” had been mistreated and put down. The first two verses translate to “They tried to cripple you/They tried to silence you/Did they think you would let them?/Not anymore” and “They tried to ruin me/They tried to twist the truth/Did they think I would let them?/Not anymore” which fits in with Himagsikan’s story so well due to the fact that prior to being recruited for DA4, that was what happened with Himagsikan. They had a rigged trial, their father tried to take away all their power and rights and Himagsikan didn’t bend or waiver in their stance.

Sabel encompasses the determination of Himagsikan’s character and their strength to keep going despite the constant shit they had to deal with that led to their title being stripped from them.

So just some updates on the revamped names:

Benedicta Alejandra Hawke y Amell - in true spanish colonial fashion I decided to go and give Benedicta an extra first name (it’s normal here to have two names so-) along with adding the y [maternal surname]. Benedicta’s name as a whole now translates to Blessed Defender of Mankind. (also for all my pinoy coded Hawkes, I actually HC Malcolm’s surname to actually be Halcon or Lawin along with his first name not really being Malcolm but after fleeing the Circle, he changed his name to make sure all his tracks are hidden)

Dalisay Kato Bagwisan - I fixed the spelling of the word away from its hispanicised spelling because fuck off colonisation I don’t need you in this bs when my focus is pre-colonial. Bagwis = soft feathers and from what I’ve double checked, Bagwisan is more like pulling off the feathers

Atubang Mahalina Kato Bagwisan - Atubang translates to advisor so that’s not a second name so much as Mahalina being called the advisor to his mother, Hara Luwalhati

Elaria “Aria” Anita Hawke y Amell - Whole name meaning is A glorified and graceful being.

Amada Carmelita dela Rosa y Salazar - This is a new OC for a WS I made and the whole name meaning from first to last names are Lovable Little Poem of the Rose and Manor House

Valeria Herminia “Inyang” Hawke y Amell - Inyang’s new name meaning is Strong Messenger

Punong Tambalan Sampaguita “Guita” Kato Marahuyo - Punong Tambalan is Guita’s title which translates to Head Healer while her clan name translates to “to be enchanted”

I know you haven't finished your last ask but I have another one.

As dragon age's resident Leandra whore I really want to know more about your Malcolm/Leandra and also how they raised Benedicta

So my HC for Malcolm is he's not really named Malcolm Hawke, he came from Azarinas aka my Filipino-coded homebrew country in the DA verse and his surname is either Halcon or Lawin but I'll say Halcon but he changed it to Hawke when he ran away with Leandra.

Malcolm for my Filipino-coded verses is always either an Enchanter or Senior Enchanter and he knows how to play this convincing game where he's contented to live in the Azarinas Circle of Magi while also helping a few mages escape (he could only do small random numbers a year cause if he and the others were caught it'll be Tranquility for him and the other participants). Leandra and her family were visiting Azarinas when they first met. Malcolm was assigned to give a tour to the Amell family to see what the Azarino Circle Tower looks like and how it functions. Leandra was taken by him because he was part of the Illuminado Fraternity among the Azarino mages and was extremely well-spoken and for every question she had, he had patiently answered. Malcolm was this intellectual mage with a silvertongue and a gentlemanly disposition and Leandra was this starry-eyed, sheltered, naive noblewoman and one thing led to another and Leandra found herself growing fond of Malcolm and his well-spoken, gentlemanly demeanour.

She didn't fully fall until Malcolm and the other Senior Enchanters and Enchanters performed for visiting nobles in Azarinas where they told stories with the use of their magic (under heavy templar supervision) and Malcolm told the legend of Azarinas' favoured flower, the sampaguita while manipulating sampaguita petals to take on different shapes as he told the story. By the end of the tragic tale, Malcolm whispered "Sumpa kita." ("You are my vow/promise.") to Leandra as he presented a garland of the sweet-smelling flowers to her, advising her to hang the garland on Andraste's statue's hands. When Leandra arrived at the Circle's chantry/chapel, Malcolm followed and helped her place the garland on Andraste's hands. There, in the quiet of the sacred place, Malcolm told Leandra of all he'd done for his fellow mages, his interest in her and desire to leave the Circle but his desire to stay being as strong to continue to help his fellow mages.

Leandra eventually managed to persuade him to leave with her at her family's next visit.
