Some Of My Favorite Cool Staging Choices in NPMD: a ramble, by me!

(is "staging" the right term? idk I wasn't a theater kid)

this will contain spoilers, which you can probably guess since it will be tagged as such.

When we see Richie getting attacked in the cold open, he's facing the audience; when it happens again (haha whoops) he's facing away from the audience & we get to see his attacker. idk man I just think the change in perspective is rad lol

Richie and Ruth taking the stage first for "High School Is Killing Me" because they're the ones who... y'know. (rip 💀)

when that first curtain thing lifts and reveals the rest of the stage 👌🏻

when Steph is trying to get Pete to help her cheat on the test the spotlight on them also lights up Grace before she butts in and gets them in trouble (foreLIGHTENing eh? eh?)

the rotating nerd huddle in "Literal Monster" brings me so much joy like Yes, put those nerds on a giant Lazy Susan and watch 'em go

the nerds sneaking along in the background when Max is singing

the bit with Miss Tessberger (sp?) leaving and returning to the stage from the opposite side

just everything about Pete & Steph's phone call. everything.

the stage going almost completely dark at the end of "Cool As I Think I Am" is fucking epic ok it's such a cool transition. also Max's "I bring light to darkness" and the lighting changes for that. they're both so cool

the bathtub prop. it just looks like it was fun to make. :)

when Steph is talking to Ruth & Richie and then she just turns and they're sneaking into the bathroom. it's like a movie transition in my brain. (also Mariah's little jump like she's trying to look into a stall is adorable)

NERDY PRUDES GOING TO THE WAYLON (sp?) PLACE MY BELOVED 💙 1. walking around the orchestra pit is cool & it's a fun, slightly-more-distanced throwback to when they walk thru the audience in TGWDLM & BF; 2. cool blue lighting + silhouettes, need I say more; 3. the tattered background descending as they walk is fucking magical

it's technically not part of the show at all but i have to give a shoutout to the person near the camera who goes "oh? oh?" when Pete & Steph exchange their cute lil looks in the Waylon House 😂

BBQ monologues!! the stage is a stage! (whoa, is this tgwdlm???) Love the brief single spotlight on Ruth when she goes on, and bonus points for the red, white, & blue lighting bc barbecues are intrinsically linked to the 4th of July in my brain (🇺🇲🔥)

when Grace is talking to Detective Shapiro I love how gray the stage goes, especially after how colorful the BBQ monologue was, like ugh <3 it makes it feel more serious and important like shit's about to get real (it is)

Bbq tofu bowls 2.0. Idr what i did last time tbqh but this was 400 5 min just sp 20 min everything. Remove tofu. 5 more min sp + brocc. As u can see it steamed the stuffs and i couldnt be assed to let it keep going coz j was hungry. Prob shoulda cranked the heat and done 10 more vs just 5 more at 400.

Also this was approx 100g of bbq sauce as opposed to 165ish cuz i didnt feel like scraping tbe bottle (are you sensing a theme here. I was this close to ordering dinner instead of this effort. I was very brave and did da cooking) and it wasnt as good. Surprise. Put my hickory salt soecial on tofu and idk how much of a dif it made compared to the heavy bbq sauce flabor.

Mb hickory salt + vinegar could skmehow then tofu into a nc style bbq but tofu isnt gonna ever have shredded pork texture so meh

Also i put cheese in the couscous. Did it go with the tofu?Aboslutely not. Wa sit tummy esp w the brococlic? Yes

Next time tldr: higher heat fir veg. Maybe 3 pans. Use sufficient bbq sauce. Mmm cheese couscous

Aight I have age gap sidney thoughts that I need to share. So I feel like sid, the missus, Nelly and Nora are all living their best lives together. The twins are getting older and the family is happy. They spend their summers in Nova Scotia and it’s filled with day time swims, lawn games, bbq, and watching the sunset together as a fam. The years are spent with the girls going to school (let’s say kindergarten? Pre-K?). The girls are starting to show interest in hobbies and sports and the parents couldn’t be more proud. Sid and the missus go to every game, every show in the front row. They snuggle together every Sunday morning and have a tradition of making blueberry pancakes. They adopted a dog—a black lab—together named Duke. Life is so good.

A couple of weeks into the school year, the missus starts to be irrationally emotional—snapping at Nora and Nelly for things she usually wouldn’t, crying at minor inconveniences, and sassing sid more than usual. It’s out of character for her. Sid is of course patient and compassionate with her, offering to make dinners, walk the dog, take the girls to school so she can rest because he assumes she’s just burnt out. It takes about two weeks for her to realize that she’s late. I feel like she’s lying in bed snuggled up with sid, slowly drifting off when it hits her. She jolts up in a panic and sid becomes super alarmed. She darts into the bathroom and pulls out a test while Sidney is still trying to figure out what’s happening until he sees the test. They just have a moment where they stare at each other, wide-eyed in disbelief. He immediately hugs her and kisses her forehead and gets her a glass of water. Surprise! Another oopsie pregnancy. Except this time, ITS A BOY!

We can come up with more deets later but I propose their son is named Samuel — Sam for short, middle name Mario in honor of his idol — because I think Samuel Crosby has a nice ring to it, another S-name. And oh boy is he a carbon copy of his father. The second he comes out of the womb the parents can already tell he’s going to be sid 2.0 when he’s older. Nora and Nelly are the best big sisters and because they can have big, confident personalities, Sam is shy but goofy. Okay I have more to say but I’ll just run these ideas all by you first.

Hold on... I think I'll disagree with XLH in this one. And I can be wrong when I further down to the series.

So if an event deviates from a major tribulation events, then that high god is doomed as hell. Wanqing (chidi) didnt meet her beloved in the Lantern Festival--a tribulation event (!!) and yet she seemed fine. Primordal spirit intact.

XLH interpreted that even if the previous tribulation event deviates from the Fate Poem, there's still alternative ways of doing so. As I said, I disagree.

Wanqing actually met her "beloved" at Lantern Festival. Unfortunately, it's DFQC 😭. There no need to do lantern festival 2.0 because it already happened! And it makes sense for him to be the "beloved." Because according to her fate, she'll be killed by her beloved in their wedding night (brutal). And DFQC's goal? Kill her.

If only Wanqing knew that the handsome mysterious "beloved" is her supreme enemy in her past life that she bbq-ed herself to defeat him.

So the Immortals™ gang's job in the mortal world is to make sure the tribulation of Chidi remains intact. But said goals happened to danger that tribulation instead!!!

Ahh this show really loved their ironies.

And it's a good way to display that a person's fate can be misinterpreted by many, even the expert of it. That it's a great challenge to play, and defy it.
