bardliing asked:
"i can't tell if you're being silly or serious."
Tumblr media
"Deadly serious, I never make an offer that I do not intend on fulfilling." He offers her a charming smile to go along with his glib words. How easily they come and how effortlessly he plays his rakish role. "Your voice is perfection. I must bring you on to a little side project that I am doing. The pay, I assure you, is quite generous."

"I could..." Nym then rests her chin on her hands. "But I'm not going to now. Does it bother you that I'm looking?"

"Do as you wish, until I find a reason to want you in a prison cell."

offers gale a magic boot 🥾
"Oh, boots of Misty Step," he remarked, accepting the boots graciously and inspecting them with interest. Tilting the sole towards the sky, his eyes narrowed as he made a very interesting discovery. "These are indeed quite useful, though it would be wise to peruse the 'fine print', so to speak. Unless you enjoy traversing the battlefield with only these boots, leaving your attire in a heap where you once stood, I'd advise saving their magic for moments of dire need."
Returning the boots to Nym, a mischievous smile played upon his lips.
Tumblr media
"Or... you might consider reserving them for a prank?" As pause. "Not me! I've shown I already know the trick before you even try it."

"I hope Nym isn't giving you any trouble."
❝Oh! no, no. No trouble at all,❞ Vigor replies without thinking, a little bewildered by the question. Nym could be playful at times, but her presence was more than welcome. Besides, they shared a camp with a vampire spawn and two ticking time bombs, so a little teasing was hardly a concern. Besides, his brothers could be far worse growing up.
However, once he thought about it more, there was something that had been bothering him. ❝Though... Now you mention it, I could of sworn I had more balsam this morning...❞

could you at least "guard" me from over there? why do you have to stand so close?
Forced Proximity Trope Starters // Accepting! @bardliing
"What's the matter, darling?" Astarion mocked her guarded tone with an exaggerated pout. He took a step closer toward her from behind, near enough for her to feel the weight of his aura present against her backside. "Afraid I might bite you?" He lowered his voice to a playful bass, but a timbre of threat laced though his tone. He was only teasing her, but he could easily not be. A good reminder.
"Or that you might want me to?" The beat of silence that followed his words was filled only by the pin-drop sound of his cheeky grin. He then quickly flitted a few paces away, allowing her a modicum more of space, and relieving her of the immediacy of his aspect.

"if one were to hug you, in theory, would you stab them? Asking for... Science." // @bardliing
Tumblr media
Dirge blinks at the sudden and random question, before her expression takes on a look of consideration far greater than the question perhaps warranted, tail flicking from one side to the other in thought.
It would seem she is taking great pains to take into account all the possible variables before giving her answer.
"A surprise hug might get someone stabbed."
A beat.
"If I weren't to know the person, that would most certainly get them stabbed."
Another beat.
"Also have I drawn blood recently? ... Or am I bleeding, for that matter..."
She does not elaborate on what answer or combination of would or would not lead to a stabbing.
"... And did they stab me first? .... Or during?"
Tumblr media
"Hm... Aside from those points, it should, in theory, be as safe as to hug me as anyone else."

Can we talk about the Bell in hell? Too late I'm talking about the bell.
First time we see it Charles is passing through the hotel lobby in Hell. And he does the Most Confusing Thing at the time: he rings it.
I fully did not understand this. It seemed like such a blatantly stupid thing to do in, you know, hell. Surrounded by demons. Especially as Edwin was Just talking about being quiet.
This is actually brilliant writing. It clues us in that there is A) Something weird (empty hotel lobby??? Why???), B) it SHOWS us what Charles is doing, and C) it sets us up for an explanation later. (Bonus, it's entirely in character)
Between ringing the bell when the book said not to, and him flipping it upside down/Clearly doing the opposite of what it's instructing: we manage to realize that he's trying to follow the entire book backwards. Including the small instructions, like the bell.
Now ringing the bell is still Reckless. It could have done something to throw the whole plan off, but Of Course Charles rings it. (Reckless after all is part of his character).
What the bell actually does is also weird: it just?? Makes screaming noises??? No one showed up to kill him, the floor didn't start to melt. Something is going on. (We as the audience are now curious).
And the explanation is GREAT.
People get hurt when the bell is rung. Which is brilliant because it means two things: 1, Edwin, the book writer, rang it before to discover this, and Cared enough to then write it down. 2, it means that Charles unknowingly hurt people. In ways we as the audience Still Don't Know, which builds our attachment to the scene.
In all honesty the Details put into hell are wonderful but the bell is just such a cherry on top when it comes to sheer creativity.

Don't want to give the boot a lil nibble?
@bardliing ¦ joking with a very literally Gale
"Why would I want to eat the boot? That's clearly not how the consumption works, Nym." Gale, oblivious to the joke, genuinely pondered if Nym had misinterpreted his need for magical items. Eating them sounded horrific; he severely doubted that his bowels would be capable of passing even a quarter of the objects he had consumed.
Tumblr media
"Essentially, I pull the essence of the Weave from the object into my own body. Once within me, the orb greedily consumes every last drop and is temporarily sated. Otherwise, it will begin to consume me. I can't speak for yourself, but I'd hope that you agree here. I would much rather a boot be consumed than my very being. If I fail that, well, the results would be costly."

Send a 😲 for your muse to walk in on mine masturbating
Tumblr media
While he had found comfort in the company of new-found companions, there were a few things Vigor missed about solitude. One perk in particular came to mind as he shifts around in his bedroll. An unwelcome visitor had stirred him from his restful sleep. Thankfully, not the visitor in his dreams, but one much more real, and much more familiar. It was still early in the morning, and he was likely the only one awake. If he acts quickly, he could rid himself of the distraction discreetly.
Aided by a small collection of blankets, he layers them atop his bedroll, and finds the privacy to slip a wayward hand under his breeches. Even in the confines of his tent, covered and clothed, it was not the privacy he really wanted. But, as he begins to indulge himself, he finds himself less worried with each gentle stroke. Focused on nothing except for pleasure that sent waves through him, he hopes that his practised hands would allow him to finish quickly.
Not quick enough, it seemed, as the curtain of his tent pulls back, stirring him from his daydream with the harsh, cold morning breeze. But his instincts act fast. Having kept himself covered, he might be able to pass it off as stretching a sore thigh. Not the best lie, but lying was never his speciality. Vigor steals a quick glance at his intruder. Poor Nym. He had to spare her the truth. He turns his back from her, hiding his flushed face. His errand hand slides off his lap and clasps his inner thigh. He squeezes tight, grounding him, though probably unnoticeable under so many sheets. Still, he had to be careful.
He hisses in pain, pretending to hurt, whilst also pretending it didn't bother him enough to cause a fuss, remaining in character. ❝You're up early. Didn't sleep?❞ Vigor says, keeping his gaze firmly turned away from her.

❝ good morning! thank you for not killing me the other night. ❞ // @bardliing
Tumblr media
"... That isn't a thing someone should have to be thanked for..." she says with a morose note to her voice and expression, not quite able to turn to face the other or to meet her eyes.
Tumblr media
Dirge doesn't know what is wrong with her. How sick of a person was she before to have to fight so hard against these... abhorrent urges? What sort of monster has such a desire to kill? to maim? to destroy?
"I am... sorry. That you were in any danger at all..."

I'm shocked that I haven't seen anyone suggest the Other reason Charles decided to stay on earth as a ghost. Especially as he said it himself just a few episodes before:
"I don't want to be dead"
Before even the anger, the making himself into the protector/humor of the group, the first thing we learn about Charles is that he... doesn't want to be a ghost.
He wants to be alive, grow up, Eat. Edwin criticizes him in the very first episode for 'liking that a living girl looked at him.' (Which, while it is blatantly jealousy. It can also be read as a critic of how Charles hasn't really accepted Being Dead).
I do believe this is one of his more 'shallow' wants. Greatly overshadowed by his want to be with his friends, to be a Good Person, etc. But when he asks to join Edwin in running from death: I think there's more than one thing at play.
Yes: it's absolutely brilliant that he chose Edwin over heaven (and continues to do so!). But with Charles's love of Edwin is also the love of Being Alive. Of being on earth.
