Ruby-in-Kyanite - Houseki No Kuni Sona

This style of reference sheet is based off of Japhers’.

HNK hiatus ended, so no better time to make an HNK sona! This is Ruby-in-Kyanite (Ruki for short), a fighting/patrolling Lustrous.

More information about them (+ information dealing with hnk spoilers) under the cut!

Ruki’s arc involves the fact that they are one gem (kyanite, mohs 4.5) with fragments of another (ruby, mohs 9) inside them, leaving them at an overall mohs of 6.5. They frequently wish they had been made of more ruby than kyanite, so they could be stronger and fight better against the Lunarians (despite 6.5 not being all that shabby). They have a tendency to ‘lose’ shards of themself, much to Rutile’s chagrin.

When Phos and the others go to the moon, Ruki goes with them. At Ruki’s request, Barbata is able to take them apart and put them back together with more pieces of synthesized ruby than their original kyanite, finally making them ‘stronger’ like they’d always wished.

“surprised you lived hehe.” barbata chuckled as he sliced the last bit of the cast off phos who rolled their eyes. “yeah yeah, took it long enough.” they replied. “was bout ready to cut it off and leave.”

“not like i’d let it happen.” he replied as phos felt their cheeks flushing. “oh yeah!” he started abruptly as he pulled out a small bean filled plush toy, giving it to them. “here ya go.”

“a-aww gee i-didn’t see this coming ehehe.” they replied as barbata stood up. “their gonna help you with your paperwork.”

“oh you lil DI-”

fidgeting with the fireplace’s settings phos looked up, immediately running to the door. “comiiiiing!” they exclaimed, opening it to find the tan bruenette holding a small bouquet of blue iris flowers in the winter snow.

“oh, thanks! i dunno if i can keep em for long though, they go dead easily off the stem.” they replied, taking them as barbata gave an embarrassed expression. “riiight, `should’ve gotten the potted one.” he mumbled as he walked in, taking from behind his back a bag. “got the stuff for your outta hospital dinner.” he stated as phos looked all excited. “alright!!!”

“where’s the kids?”

“sleepover at cairn’s.”

opening their mouth phos hummed as they felt it be filled with tomato sauced covered pasta as barbata fed them. “man, how do you get it to stick?” they asked as barbata chuckled. “old italian recipe.”

“what��s the recipe?”

“...honestly there isn’t much, of one, it’s more of i throw anything into the pasta and it magically sticks.” he replied as phos chuckled. “i’ll have to come watch you sometime.”

finishing the meal off barbata moved to get up and look out the window, gulping at the sudden sheet of snow infront of it. “...so...i don’t think i’ll be able to go home.” he stated as phos walked to the window, plate in hand as they ate and hummed. “yep.”

“...i’ll take the couch.”

the creak of the steps caused the brunette to stir, cracking an eye as the snow weirdly was enough help to have him see the entrance of the living room to find the small figure walking down the stairs.

“phos?” he whispered, hearing a yelp and something soft fall. getting up more he watched them lean down to pick up something. “what’s that?” he asked as the bluenette gulped, moving closer to the couch as he saw clearly the small bunny plush.

“You sleep with the stuffed animal I got you?” he asked disbelieved as phos blushed and nodded. “Of course. it’s cute.” they mumbled blushing more as barbata chuckled. “man, feel honored.” he replied. “want me to get ya water or something?”

“grape juice yeah.” getting up he moved to the kitchen as phos followed. “...can we...maybe..i hate sleeping alone.” they mumbled as barbata almost spilled the juice. “...sure, if you want to mean.”

“the bunny stays though.”

“bunny’s perfect.”

“AUNCLE PHOOOOOOOOS!!!” the bluenette jerked up from bed as they heard goshe’s scream. “we’re hooooooooome!!!”

“fuuuuuuck!” they exclaimed, getting up and covering barb with the blanket. “stay sleeping don’t move!” they exclaimed, slamming the door as barbata snored, holding the stuffed rabbit in his hands.

What do you think will happen to the moon gem once phos gets reasembaled?

nothing. straight up nothing. they’ll go back to ignoring phos, maybe spare half a thought to the fact that phos has lost it, and carry on with their lives. under aechmea’s instructions, barbata will make sure to handle phos’ anomalies and get phos back to a  somewhat docile pawn
