Today I thought I'd share with you why this one's extra special.... "Space Hopper Racing at Trearddur Bay" is a watercolour painting I literally waited years to paint! I really wanted to create this piece showing the great fun New Years Day racing in aid of the RNLI (our local voluntary sea rescue service) but I also wanted it to be realistic, so I had to wait through Covid lockdowns and Welsh government restrictions till it was legal for the races to run and for me to go and see them! It was well worth the wait! What had started a number of years ago as a small family event, has morphed into a massively popular red letter day in the calendar for the local community and many of Trearddur Bay's visitors. To me it's possibly the very best of community ventures! It was hilarious, with youngsters bulging the start line outwards to get a competitive advantage, some of the children earnestly hopping all the way, others just picking up their space hoppers and running and children refusing to leave the track when it came to the adult races! No winner was announced for any of the races, because by coming together on the beach on this cold January day, every one of us was a winner! I hope my delight in that day communicates! I'd love to know it you've ever seen or experienced something similar to this space-hopper racing. Please do tell me in the comments... Thanks! Sam aka LymphomaLass xx

"When you can't change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails." (H. Jackson Brown, Jr)
I saw this saying on a mug designed as a gift for sailors recently and thought it was just wonderful!
Yes, many of us have an idea of what we want in life, but sometimes we need to change tack for a while to keep safe.
You may want to be a full-time artist, or be an entrepreneur and run your business full-time, or just retire early.
But if the sales aren't coming fast enough or the energy bills are too high, there's no shame in taking on a job for a while, part or full-time.
It might even bring some unexpected benefits like some new friendships and you might actually enjoy it!
It doesn't mean your life-plans aren't valid or aren't achievable in the end.
Taking a detour now might even give you extra experience, or planning and preparation time, that helps you get to where you want to be more easily!
Sometimes the things that are outside our control just have to be taken into account, and that doesn't mean you won't still get to where you want to go, eventually.
And who knows what new ideas or contacts you may pick up along the way!
This art's available printed-to-your-order, with minimal wastage at: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/56061010 And everything's 25% off, but not for long.
Thanks!

Did you receive my newsletter on Friday... ?
In it I shared the first view of my new watercolour painting "A Sunset Walk on Porth Diana", completed in Daniel Smith pigment rich watercolours.
It was inspired by a scene I saw one evening walking to our local, the Seacroft, in Trearddur Bay. There was a group walking on the beach at the water's edge. It looked just so idyllic, speaking to me of the simple pleasures family time by the coast brings.
The original watercolour is A4 size so easy to find an economic ready-made frame for, £75 unframed including UK postage, or £95 framed if I can deliver to you. Please just private message me to purchase it.
Or for reproductions (including cushions, mugs, prints, etc), please head over to https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/117995445
If you missed out on my newsletter and would like to receive it next month, please join me at: https://lymphomalass253520856.wordpress.com/
Thanks!

"Mynydd Tŵr or Holyhead Mountain from Bae Trearddur Bay" was inspired by a lovely early July day this year. I sat on Ravenspoint and decided to paint just a section of the view across Trearddur Bay.
This is my favourite view in the world. It gives me feelings of safety and security. It's a view I keep painting over and over again, in different seasons and light conditions. A few weeks ago, a friend enquired about buying a piece of my art featuring this view and when I looked I already had ten to show her!
I love the way the light moves on the mountain, one minute showing the light colours of the rock, the next moving to a majestic mauve-purple hue.
This piece was worked in Sennelier and other oil pastels. I hope you enjoy this take on my favourite place!
It's available in a mix of different types and sizes of prints, and on clothes, accessories, homewares and gift items at:
The A4 (29.7cm by 21cm) unframed original is available for £75 including UK postage or, if we live close enough for us to deliver, in a frame it's £95. Please just private message me to arrange your purchase.

"Follow your own light."
When I was a young woman I was so uncertain about life, the universe and basically almost everything. I looked to others for advice and reassurance that I was taking the right steps. I didn't give myself enough credit because, whatever I might have seemed like on the outside, I lacked confidence in myself.
Since then, thankfully, I've learned to trust to my own inner light to guide my path. I've discovered that I can trust my own instinctive lead.
If I feel strongly that one particular way or or goal is the right one to follow, I've found it's invariably a good one.
I'm not saying things always turn out as I hoped. Very often they don't. But I've found that I've gained something along the way. Sometimes better understanding of how to go forward next time.
Quite often, though, following my own light has led to some really good outcomes!
This art is of my brother sailing his boat at Bae Trearddur, Ynys Môn, created in the summer of 2020 when I was strictly shielding and missing Anglesey. I decided not to feel nervous about using pens for this piece and it won a place in Artists and Illustrators Magazine online exhibition of Lockdown Art.
It's available to buy printed on all kinds of things (without the text) at: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/53102810
Thanks!

"Appreciate the little things in life."
Sometimes we can't have or fix the big things in life... the things we really need like good health, or the relationships we crave. So many people lack financial stability at the moment, and obviously that's a massive one.
Maybe it's at times like this that we most need to take a moment to appreciate the little things that are lovely, just to give us a few minutes rest from the things that make us anxious and unhappy.
Our favourite Christmas music, the frost on a leaf, the scent of fresh brewed coffee... the feeling of a hot water bottle at our feet.
Bees maybe both lovely and little, but they're essential to pollination and our food production. Sometimes the little things aren't so little after all.
To buy this art printed on all kinds of things, please go to: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/118640183 The original is for sale at Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham, Cheshire.
Thanks!

"Try thinking of three things to be grateful for each day."
This is the gratitude practice I was taught on a course for cancer patients and survivors.
Some of the other patients on the course had been given a terminal diagnosis and had also lost their partners to cancer too.
At first, I thought suggesting this "three things to be grateful for" exercise was obscene. How could anyone suggest this to these people...?
But gradually I realised that this was one of the very few things that could be suggested. And that it's better than offering nothing or, maybe even worse, empty sympathy.
It's something anyone could try. It won't solve the practical problems or limitations, but over time it might help someone to find an answer to those for themselves.
So here it is, for you.
To buy the art printed on all kinds of things, please head to: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/117995445 where there's 25% off everything today.

I finished two paintings this week!
Please tell me which you like best:

They were inspired by a sailing race I watched, sketched and photographed at Bae Trearddur Bay, Ynys Mon/Anglesey on a lovely day early this August,

Just to share something very new I've been inspired to try by the work and kind recommendations of two of my incredibly talented fellow artists at Gavriella Abekassis Learn How to Sell Your Art Online's Artists' Club! Thank you, Eleanor Crook and Stasa Hlava!
It's an AI (artificial intelligence) design created from one of my own images!
Only available at: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/122532289
It's a very different style to how I choose to paint, and so a very different feel, maybe a bit edgier (?), but I've really enjoyed learning the new tech this week!
And no, I'm not immediately going to start issuing NFTs (non-fungible tokens)!
I have in-principle concerns about how the cryptocurrencies behind NFTs are currently "mined", especially at a time when the basic energy supplies of so many are under threat!
I think I prefer my usual, more time consuming, analogy way of creating images, with brush or pen, but I can see myself playing with this AI technology some more!
If anyone wants to know more about this kind of "AI art", please feel very welcome to comment below or private message me... You'd not be "disturbing me" or anything like that. I'm always happy to talk, especially about art!
Thanks!
