I saw that post saying you were deleting old asks so obviously my first reaction was I gotta send you an ask now - really I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to my favourite movie ever. The first time I saw Bacurau was at the Viennale (including a Q&A with the director) because I'd seen you talk about it, and I've seen it like twice more in the cinema since then because I loved it so much. So now I implicitly trust all your recommendations and it hasn't steered me wrong so far, thank you! :)
thrilled to hear this!! Bacurau also remains one of my faves of the past few years. i wish it was better-known, although i can see why people might not be grabbed by, say, its official letterboxd description:
i mean, technically accurate? but this description fully buries the lede that Bacurau is ALSO a sci-fi/fantasy anticolonialist neo-western with queer vibes. anyway, i'm so glad you enjoyed! and hopefully my other recommendations will continue to be hits rather than misses, haha.
