Mincham lay in the open space stunned, for the moment insensible. Faeron was working his way to his feet, but not quickly enough. He'd taken enough cuts to fell another man, but either they looked worse than they were or his luck was greater than they supposed. Next to him, at least one Ranger of Ithilien lay unconscious. The other... he did not know.

They had rescued the pair, and a man of Rohan as they fell back to Aragorn's position. This last had his legs but not his wits about him. He was in as much danger as the rest.

But it was much the same. He stood between the defenseless and certain death. No ravaging wargs, but four orcs of Mordor. They would make quick work of Faeron and their Rohirrim. Cut down Mincham and the others where they lay.

He might not survive this, but it would give them a chance to run. Faeron and the Rohirrim, if none else. He would hold the line. This time, none would pass to threaten those he defended. None ever again.
