DON’T - Independent Asian Short Film in the Making

Hi, I’ve been working for the past 8 months I’ve been working really hard for a short film called Don’t. 

“ DON'T is a multilingual short film about a ragtag crew that fights for their community. The film celebrates women, genderqueer identities, and Asian cultures. “

A note from the project’s (and my ahhh!!) director, Vietnamese-New Zealand Filmmaker Sally Tran: 

“  I didn’t realise how deeply effected by the Asian hate crimes that spiked last year. I had a hard time focusing on work. I was difficult to work with. I was not myself. And I thought I needed change in my life for things to feel normal. But what I really needed was support and be around people who could talk about issues that were important to me, and just ask me if I was OK. This film is the work in progress of a lot of social and personal issues that have swelled in my head the last few years. From the death of my grandma to policing problems and my AZN sistas feeling unsafe and needing to suit up at night. “

The director has been really kind and understanding with me (a total newcomer to live action tbh), and it’s been such an incredible journey with this film for me. I joined because I resonated with so many aspects of the project. Badass magical girls, Wong-kar wai influences, found family, multiple Asian communities banding together, beautiful cinematography, and so much more. I feel lucky that my first film internship was with a collective as dedicated as this to making an safe space for learning, and for giving a platform to individuals like our Asian trans and genderqueer cast and crew.

We just launched our crowdfund page actually, where you can see this teaser + more content like BTS. We need to hit about $4200 by end of today, and then our $14,000 goal by mid-September.  I don’t normally make posts like this but if you like what you see please please go check it out, donate if you can - TRULY every little bit helps - or if not any support & boosting is always so appreciated.

Simple enough phrase on it's own, although a little self-deprecating huh? You know I don't think I've ever actually written the glyph for "under" before, that was very exciting to do. It's just a funny little squiggle, I dunno why that's so entertaining to me.

J&E in Nashville

we got some stares/asks what we’re doing in Nashville, which i found amusing. is it weird to takea  quick trip there for reasons other than a bach/bachelorette party?

1. reminded me of a big city that still requires transportation (eg Austin, Atlanta.. even downtown LA) - lotsa new developments AND old stuff but the old stuff wasn’t as cute/cool IMO as like.. charleston haha. it’s like a city burb. there was also not really a water until we noticed the rivere across downtown that had the TN titans stadium. but it isn’t a beach town so i think i’d say charleston wins over nashville/

2. so much country! music! it was cool. i only know blake sheldon lol. also hte cowboy hats, boots.... it’s a culture shock haha 

3. TOTAL bach town like omg... lol.. the pedal cars and party buses with no windows..... no words... LOL 

4. broadway was CRAZY. we opted out of listening to live music here and went to printers alley, thank god. too much goin on there, never seen so many ppl recently in the south in my life. it was kinda scary (overhwleming) and graungy too haha.. just not 21 anymore...

5. life-size parthenon was cool but also underwhelmigm cuz we went to the real one last year lol

6. sooo many scooters and ppl actually use them~

7. we LOVED printers alley! went to bourbon st and met a US military person who recommended some places (he went to KATUSA which was cool to bond) and said to stay away from broadway. well noted, kind sir

8. almost no azns. wut. 

9. the highlight of our trip was going to a church. it was such a blessing. to witness ppl of all nations, countries (well, rly just south and mostly 2 races haha) but anywho, worshispping and praising god was so heart warming. also, the way they had their service oriented around worship throughout (sing, sit, read scripture, pray, sing, etc) was sooo awesome. i see why J rly likes that now. we got to meet one of the writers of getty music too which was so cool! there was also a BUNCH of churches all near each other ini like a row.. which was so cool.

10. we also LOVED the food. i feel we mostly just went on a food binge and came back, loll. biscuit love (bonuts and biscuits, skip the bacon), martins (over jacks), and hattie B’s, are all solid. we went to husk in charleston so not sure if that’s why husk nashville was nothing special (or if it’s cuz we were so full)... def still such a nice dining experience nonetheless.

11. we highly reco the hotel we were in - towneplace suites in midtown. it was either new or renovated and the suite was huge with smart tv, etc. rly loved our view of the city too.

12. words of wisdom from jason from this trip... “everything reminds u of either disneyland or LA” --> LOOOOOLLLL i had no idea i was so often saying “this reminds me of dland.” or “this reminds me of socal” welp- socal girl forever.

Caedmon wanted to buy new clothes, and Tara could have used a new outfit (hers wasn't bad, but boo on you, Maxis), so he went out!

But sadly, she was more interested in the *~*aZn b0i*~*, so Caed went to woo other women.

"OH MY GOD, THERE'S A GHOST ON YOUR BOOBS!"

He gagged over like every girl there. So finally I had him scope the room.
