Nearly all creatures larger than cats did not survive the wave of radiation that swept over the earth when humans departed their dying world.  There are myths, however, of 8 larger entities that did, wandering the Wastes with mysterious intent.  Some worship the 8 as deities, others fear them, and many believe they do not exist.  Almost all agree that the most terrifying prospective member of the 8 is the large feline referred to as the Shadow-stepper.  After all the only thing more frightening than a cat, is another cat 5 times the size.
