I’m not adding this to that graffiti post because it’s already getting annoying but I’ll be real I don’t think cartoonish drawn dicks or whatever are that big a deal for some grade school age kids to see and I think the fact that such is getting used as an example of inappropriate graffiti proves my point about anti graffiti talking points being reactionary. Doubly so in this case - the one two “panic about allusion to human sexuality” and “think of the children!” combo

I do have to admit that there are better authors who play with this on purpose

one sort of trope that always gets me in speculative fiction is when I'm shown some big immaculate and orderly city. am I supposed to imagine that the people who live there are profoundly not-human or am I supposed to assume that this is a society kept under control to a herculean degree?

large gatherings of humans are necessarily going to be messy, sprawling, and complicated. humans have been covering their worlds in art since literally time immemorial. there's a certain desire to create cities that are pristine and immaculately designed and maintained that I think I'd label fascist, if perhaps unwittingly, for the degree of control over human behavior that it quietly asks for.
it's so funny how graffiti is like a non issue that effortlessly reveals peoples' reactionary tendencies.
