Hey Boy!

Pairing: Reki x Reader

Content: flirty (?) Reader, you're Miya's older brother,

Description: Reki had no idea why he wanted to know who you were, but he's glad he got to meet you.

Note: I JUST FINISHED SK8 THE INFINITY(atleast up until episode 8, I cant wait for ep.9 omggg) AND IM SUCH A BIG REKI KINNIE OMFG.

Miya sat with Langa and Reki. The three boys talking about the mext beef and how else to improve, Miya sprinkling small comments through out the whole conversation. Careful to not actually hurt the ither two boys but also keep them in check.

They sat comftorable talking together until a voice comes up behind them, "Miya, we have to get going".

Miya looks back, shocked to see his brother there, not expecting you to be here so early. Usually you wouldn't pick him up since he didnt like you too, but you decided to surprise him this time. Im sure he wouldn't mind if you bribed him with some food.

"Huh? ...mm fine, give me a second"

Miya quickly grabs his stuff before starting to walk towards you, looking back and giving the red haired and blue haired boys a goodbye.

Both Langa and Reki sat there confused, they had never seen you around. So to see you just casually picking Miya up wasnt something they ever expected.

You peeked their interest, especially Reki's, so he was determined to find out who you were.

Reki ran through S, hoping to catch up with the others and look for Miya. He hoped Miya would actually answer him instead of ignoring any question he made about you.

He ran faster when he caught a glimpse of your brothers neon green hoodie.

"Miya Miya Miya!!"

The people around looked at Reki as if he were crazy, why in the hell is this high schooler yelling for a middle school cat boy.

"What do you want?"

"Who was that guy that oicked you up yesterday?" Reki seemed like he had stars in his eye, for some reason he really wanted to get to know you. Not even Reki knew why he wanted to know more about you.

"Why do you want to know about my brother?" Miya says with a scoff, visibly confused as to why Reki of all people wanted to know more about you.

Langa, who was right beside Miya and Reki, gasped. Both Reki and Langa looked at eachother with wide eyes.

"YOU HAVE A BROTHER??"

The two boys scream out, everyone in a 5 mile radius defenetly heard them. They could probably get the cops attention with how loud they yelled.

Everyone around them hushed the two boys, both of them now looking at Miya as if he were the crazy one.

"Yes I have a brother, now what the hell do you want to know about him? You guys are weird"

Reki grabs Miya by the shoulders before viciously moving him back and forth, even more exicted then he was before.

"Why didnt you tell us? Why havent we meet this guy before? Where is he right now? Does he skate as well?"

Reki had millions and millions of questions, while Langa just wanted to know if he could do a beef with you. Certainly Miya must have learnt skating from someone else, maybe that someone was you.

Miya yelps as he gets thrown around in front of everyone. He grabs his skateboard before hitting Reki in the chest, effectively making Reki lose his grip on Miya's shoulders and Miya finally being able to move around freely.

"Idiot stop asking so many questions! If you really wanna know about my brother just ask one question at a time...god"

"Okay okay" Reki says and then takes a deep breath, "is he here?"

"He-"

Before Miya can respond Reki hears a shout from behind him.

"Hey boy!"

As Reki looks back he spots the one and only boy who he was seemingly obsessed with, atleast in Miya's eyes it seemes that way.

Reki had a big smile and he sees you skate towards him, looking incredibly cooler then he could ever be, or atleast thats what he thought.

You stand in front of him with a smile, extending your hand for him to shake.

"Heard you were talking about me?"

At that, Reki blushes. His face now comoletelt red, noticing that he indeed was talking about you. It embarrased him more then he wished it did, he didn't want you thinking he was obssesed with you or something if he hasnt even talked to you once.

You chuckle at his expression, placing your hand on his shoulder before starting to talk to him again.

"Dont worry about it, i dont mind"

Reki lets out a big sigh at what you said, thankful you didnt think of him in a bad way.

The moment you shared gets broken as both Miya and Langa look from behind Reki's shoulder, directly at you.

You quirk a brow as Miya glares at you and Langa just stares in awe.

"Did i do something?" You say before Langa jumps up and starts speaking.

"We should beef!"

At that, Reki and Miya pale up. Miya now worried you would beat Langa's ass, and Reki worried he wouldnt be able to spend some more time with you.

You let out a laugh at Langa's words, excitment couarsing through you now. It had certainly been some time since you've beefed with anyone.

"Is that so? I guess we can arrange something"

At that, Langa is now satisfied. He gives you a quick thank you before running over to Joe and Cherry to talk about how he could improve. He knew it wouldn't be easy to beat you, you were Miya's older brother after all.

Skill runs in the family.

While Langa ran off, so did Miya. Groaning about how he couldn't stomach looking at you and Reki talk, saying something about how you would probably start flirting with him sooner enough.

Reki ignores him as he keeps on talking to you, not noticing the relaxed face and posture you had on while talking to him. He didnt know in that moment, but you usually weren't like that. At least not with people you had just met.

The conversation rolled on smoothly, its almost as if you guys had met before. No one would have guessed you guys weren't friends already.

Soon enough it became very late and everyone had to say their goodbyes, Reki was sad that he would probably not be able to see you for a few days since you studied at another school.

You notice his expression and decide to give him your phone number, he immediatly lit up again. Its as if you were staying at the sun in the middle of the night.

You didn't mind it at all.

You ruffle up his already messy hair before grabbing your skateboard and walking off with Miya, not forgetting to say some last words before leaving.

"See you later cutie, text me!"

Its a lot harder to do with traditional art but I'd love to see progress shots of your colored pencil stuff its so neat

I wanted to wait until I had progress shots to show before answering this and I took some as soon as I was starting a new colored pencil illustration, which was the Pepto Bismol one I just posted. Gonna put a keep reading cut here bc this’ll probably be a bit of a long post lol.

I don’t have any kind of strict process I always follow, I just do whatever works best for each specific drawing, so I kind of just took a pic whenever I finished anything that felt like it could be it’s own “step.” Also keep in mind I worked on this during different days, different times of day, and different locations, so the lighting will be pretty different throughout the pics here which will affect how the colors look and the overall quality of the photos, I did the best I could with the changing lighting.

First step is the graphite sketch. Since I’m focusing on the colored pencil part of the process I didn’t document the process of sketching, just the final outcome

I go over the sketch with a colored pencil, I usually use a lighter color so that the lines you’ll see in the next step are lighter and not going to be noticeable when the drawing is all done, and I’ll go with a color that would be found in the illustration so that it doesn’t look unnatural wherever it may show through (I chose pink because, Pepto Bismol)

then I go over the whole thing with an eraser, only the graphite erases completely while the colored pencil stays, even though it dulls a bit. This is so I can still have a sort of outline to color in without having to worry about graphite mixing with the lighter color pencil colors and muddying everything up (it also just cleans up the sketch a lot which makes everything easier to work with)

then I start putting some of the colors down while also adding some basic detail that I’ll color and shade along later. I also go over the lines again just to make sure everything is shaped correctly, but I’m using the base colors of whatever the object is because I don’t actually want things to have outlines later on

I’m kind of mapping out the colors now as well as shadows

(also I finally found a use for this super bright neon pink colored pencil I have lol)

I’m basically just continuously layering on more color and detail, making sure to go light to dark. I mostly work on everything evenly rather than meticulously finishing one area after another but I was a bit more meticulous with the pepto bismol tablets just because they were the most detailed part of the illustration

I pretty much color the borzoi last because it’s the one white thing in this image and I want it to sort of “reflect” all the colors that will be around it and you can see I’m still adding new colors to the background as I go along

adding some green, Im basically trying to get a black without using black by layering opposing (is that the right word?) colors over each other, it makes it so that the black still looks like a natural part of the image because it’s made up of the colors in it, and it gradients toward the foreground better. I’m also doing the same for the nose and lips of the borzoi

finally putting some more color down on the borzoi, both giving it a base color and making the shading more defined

added the pepto splash before I layer any more color on the background. Also in just about every step here I’m continuously touching up the pepto bismol tablets, maybe a bit too obsessively

adding more colors from the background to the borzoi as well as shading it some more

adding more green (and some dark blue) to the background and floor to darken it some more, and again to the borzoi

I blend some of the lighter areas with orange-yellow, dunno if this is a real technique I just like the kind of glow effect it has and I do it a lot in my drawings (basically layering light colors over dark ones and sort of pressing harder with the strokes to blend/smooth everything together while giving it an almost glowing undertone of that light color)

Only at the very end I use a white colored pencil, I haven’t used it at all so far. I give the borzoi it’s fur texture + its whiskers, basically using the same method as earlier when I blended the yellow into darker colors by pressing harder with the strokes, here the strokes are just fur-shaped. I also add some highlights to the metal bowls, the splash of pepto bismol, and the nose and mouth of the borzoi with white colored pencil and a tiiiiny bit of white gel pen (a really tiny bit, basically a few little dots here and there)

oh and I added the “Pepto Bismol” writing to the pepto bismol tablets (or as close to writing as I could get)

also at some point in this step a mysterious black line appeared on the drawing that I couldn’t get rid of :( but its ok I just removed it in photoshop later lol

then I just take as good a pic as I can and touch it up in photoshop, this is for getting rid of flaws like that weird black line as well as to make the photo resemble what the drawing looks like irl as closely as possible, I’ll usually have the drawing next to me so I can reference it while editing the photo to make sure it looks like the real thing.

also in this step I usually crop the image both to hide the messy edges and to give it a better composition.

you can see how different all these pics look from each other (in terms of lighting and quality) let alone from the final piece, which is why the editing step is important lol

alright this is my blog and i do what i want so we are going to break down avarice by late august right here and now (meaning i will ramble stupidly about cool drawings n colors n stuff. if that’s not your thing keep scrolling)

opening credits

oh this song has some sexy, sexy bass

and august took so much advantage of it

the poker chips building on the beat!!! increasing tension! giving the eyes somewhere to move!

there’s some faint flashy light thingy around the edges which is cool

ruh roh villain quackity

i’ll probably say this too much but my god, august kills it with the musicality. every single movement is on beat. every transition is chosen to fit the sound. such a wonderful experience

neatly done perspective going on in this weapons room

dark purple is an awesome color choice - that orange lava glowing against it? gorgeous

lava stretchy. yum. cheese.

the ROTATING SHADOW IS SO COOL!! the intrigue! the drama! the villainy! the 3D effect!

clever lighting to create a glowing neon effect without actually including anything glowing or neon. i can hear the fluorescent bulbs buzzing.

look at the liquid moving. look at the cut during the glass sliding so we can see it go from hand to hand. hhhh

palette change! watch the bright red blood drops fly towards you when the poker chip hits the puddle

and THIS transition back into the drink glass made me scream

difficult perspective shots when quackity turns the page. we see it from the FRONT. THAT’S SO HARD TO DRAW

cape transition for extra drama!

return of the rotating shadow. i want to make out with it

some obvious red color symbolism and whatever. look at the rotating shadow it’s so sexy

achievement unlocked: manipulate 4/4 minors

the transition of the ufo explosion is effortlessly pleasing. the way the sky goes dark -

explosion is pink for some reason. i’m not complaining it looks cool. but how did he pull off hot pink in the middle of a muted palette animatic

august can do nothing simply and i love it. THREE separate cuts during quackity tossing the poker chip to purpled so the background can change from red to purple and the red chip can contrast at the end

notice how the TNT button and the chip are both sinister red circles

another hard perspective shot!! why would you draw fundy from an angle AND below us??? i’m gonna cry that’s so difficult

CARD SYMBOLISM HECK YEA the way that card flips up with the electric riff is captivating

at this point august starts putting characters inside previous images for a few transitions and cutting the screen in half and i love it. makes me think of animated comic book stuff

the attention to detail!!! the way the King card gets placed is animated so gently and perfectly

previously i think one of august’s weak spots has been keeping a cohesive storyline throughout an entire animatic but this one is very nicely wrapped up. beautiful improvement sir

Pt 3

Eve

Her fight is similar however there is way more fighting

Between the brothers

Between eve and west

Between eve and zuke

West’s bitterness and jealousy comes out

While zuke’s frustrations about how his brother treated him after college and everything else comes out

Z: her art has really changed

W: i think it looks great

Z: it does but it’s like it’s missing...her. It’s missing nadia

“My name is eve. And my district would disagree. They prfer this art. The other kind was taking to long to make.”

Z: do you even get to enjoy your art anymore

“That does not matter anymore.”

They manage to beat eve with her retreating into her realm

Zuke and west argue some more but manage to somewhat reconcile and zuke follows eve

They talk like they do in the game till one point

Z: she’s right i do owe you an apology and more than that. I wish i could make this up to you but you dont need me, you complete yourself.

“I hate this art, but it’s all i can make anymore.”

Z: you shouldn’t let your fans control you, remember they dont complete you, only you can complete yourself.

Zuke goes to leave when eve speaks

“She’s not a bad person, she’s actually very kind. But she can never be herself.”

Z:... why not

“She’s scared, it’s all she was ever taught. We’re all scared.”

Interlude

during the walk back the brothers talk some more and discuss things more civily

While it doesn’t completely fix things, this talk and the revolution have defintely repaired thier relationship by a lot

Tatiana

Again like the canon fight but dialogue changes

“You dont have what it takes to power the city youre music will never be enough, especialy not on its own”

W: we’ll see about that, lets show this woman what rock and rap can do

“You still just dont understand.”

The fight continues up to the point where it gets revealed that shes Kul Fyra

W:...who?

Z: ugh west.

W: what?!

Z: shes a rock star, one of the best. Or she was.

“No i am not Kul Fyra, i will never be her again. She was weak, unable to be what her fans wanted of her. But now i can provide so much more than she could.”

Z: at what cost though

They fight as they talk some more

Z: seriously the nsr artists, they cant take anymore i dont think you can either

“ YOU dont THINK? What would you know? They have powered Vinyl City for years. Practiced their arts and skills for years. Were granted powers for their dedication! They provide the people their needs!”

W: what about thier needs? The needs of your artists?

They manage to beat Tatiana and see that they haven’t even reached half capacity for power

“See you cannot do it.”

Z: neither can you. Any of you.

“How dare you.”

Z: you all are going to kill yourself! Yinu and the sayu team dont get to be kids, djss lost part of his dream, neon j never stops working and knows nothing beyond it!

“They are strong minded and capable how would you-“

Z: eve- hell part of thats my fault cause im a coward but she doesn’t get to enjoy her art or put herself into it. She just keeps shelling it out without any heart and its affecting her badly!

Z: and i don’t even know even where to start with maysibelle. She’s afraid of her own emotions and is even more scared to show her face! Thats not okay!

“That is enough!”

Z: no you listen-

Kliff(k): she’s right zuke, that is enough.

The conversation between kliff and tatiana is the same mostly save for the fact that kliff doesnt beleive in the negative effects of idol worship, nor does he understand that what he feels is obsession not devotion

Z: what the heck is wrong with you kliff? Didn’t you listen to me when i was talking about what it’s done to the nsr artists?!

K: hah there’s no such thing, just weak artists who can’t handel the devotion thier fans show them

W: that isn’t devotion it’s obsession

So kliff argues with them and when he can’t bring them to his way of thinking he gets angry but it’s zuke who makes him snap

Z: hey everyone out there in vinyl city i know you can hear me. Look at your artists, look how exhausted they are. They do everything you want and you still demand more. They’re human.

Z: They have to be able to rest and gave time to themselves. They should be able to make mistakes and express themselves. They shouldn’t have to lock way their emotions. Just show them some respect. They don’t need worship, they need to be seen as human.

Kliff snaps and calls them traitors before turning to tatiana and speeing outbhis lines about hus devotion and then brings the satelites down

The brothers help and return the districts to the nsr artists as theyre taking the boys decline joining nsr

Z: i- don’t think we’ve earned that right yet. Maybe one day. Will you all be slright.

Tatiana: perhaps one day. We can only hope the people of Vinyl City listened to you. And in time perhaps things will change for the better.

And this is where the main part of the game ends, there’s still recovery needed to be done on the nsr artists part after all of this after all
