#as far as immortal beings go in kdramas he is far from being bad but yeah he is not on the level of a genuinely decent human being though

for years now I feel like I have been waiting for Ji Chang Wook to get out of some kind of rut and star in something that I a). want to watch and b.) might actually enjoy watching (because I do actually try or want to watch the things he is in) and maybe just maybe The Sound of Magic is the drama that will finally do just that.
It's a magical musical that's only six episodes long which is just an odd genre and a length for a kdrama (but maybe for the better so it does not drag like dramas tend to do) but that can also be beneficial to it. It will stand out. And once the first musical number started I had the biggest smile on my face.
the thing about kdramas that are only 8 or six episodes tho is that they have to do a lot in those episodes, and really pack a punch with the way they convey the story and build up to things and the character arcs which I have often found lacking in other dramas with similar length.
A lot of 16 or 24 episodes dramas do feel long and draggy, but I am not sure if only 6 or 8 episodes for the kdrama format ether because I often feel like things lack a bit of depth because things aren't explored enough and kdramas just have a certain way of telling stories that does need more room than that where six or eight dramas manage to do everything with the story that needs to be done and the story can feel a bit empty. 12 episodes dramas like Youth of May do however and seem to be able to get everything done.
But I am always ready to be proven wrong. There is an okay buildup in the first episode of The Sound of Magic even if it does feel a bit too much like a here is a brief setup of the characters, their situations and all of that sort of episode and by the end of it the story feels like it's just about to start rather than it started right away like The Killer's Shopping List that's only 8 episodes (I thought it was 16).
It's a pretty straightforward setup though, which helps. There is magic, people sing randomly (which you don't question because magic), there is a lonely magic man that steps in to help and is just a bit odd and a poor girl in some very bad situations that lives alone with her sister and is just about to get kicked out of her house. It feels very been there done that, but not in a bad way. It's not doing much that makes me go... oh this is new.
Except for the musical bits, which truly are great. I love those bits. I love Ji Chang Wook's singing. It's a great role for him, although a bit empty maybe.
I am hoping for no romance between this high school student and the magician. They might age her up or something later on, but it's still a trope that I hate in these sort of more fantasy setting kdramas. I would hate for the magician to be some immortal being and she being destined to cure him or whatever. I do not like those types of romances in YA books or in kdramas. It just makes me *sighs*
So far the drama doesn't seem to convey any romance whatsoever between Ji Chang Wook's and Choi Sung Eun's characters and the magician dude just seems to be very lonely and just strikes up a conversation with anyone that just stumbles upon him really. He just wants some human company. I could more see some high school romance between Ah Yi and her classmate Il Deung, which could be quite sweet.
The characters feel like standard kdrama characters at this point. The poor girl with a good heart, the reserved smart boy in cass and so forth. I am not getting too much depth from them at the start of episode one... but it's only episode one after all and a lot of time was spent on setup. And the same goes for Ji Chang Wook's character. They work well within the story but they are also just kinda there at this point. That would not bother me at a start of a story necessarily, if I didn't know that we only had five episodes left once that one ended.
The actors are great. It's just there isn't that much material for them... yet.
I do worry about this feeling fantastical, because the drama is pretty and well produced and acted, and fun and the musical aspects are neet. But it's going to leave a bit empty because the story just doesn't pack enough punch or get it's time to develop properly or build up (sort of like The Witch's Diner) and it's all going to be surface level in the end. Pretty and fun, but not much else.
I would love to be proven wrong tho.

rey! do you have any recs for kdramas? i have never watched any, but i like lovable characters and romance ? thank you in advance!
Tumblr media
I DO IN FACT HAVE DRAMA RECS HII not all of these will be kdramas, but ill start with the kdramas ive watched and enjoyed and ill include all the warnings for them that i can remember off the top of my head and a brief synopsis for u!
kdramas-
1. weight lifting fairy kim bok joo
this was probably one of the first kdramas i saw people post about in like 2015 and i watched a little bit of it in 2016 but then only just got around to finishing it last year. the basic gist of it is its about a young sports college weight lifter, kim bok joo, centering around her navigating through her life and trying to figure out who she is and what she wants in life and what she wants to be. her romantic interest in the show is a swimmer and they have a sort of rivals to friends to lovers, he is SO in love with her and its adorable. i absolutely loved the side characters in this show theyre all so fun and kim bok joos best friends and weight lifting team are especially delightful. my main warning would be that this show addresses eating disorders and theres a lot of mention of both weight gain and weight loss, theres also a plot point early on where kim bok joo has a crush on her eventual love interests older brother but it gets resolved and the older brother literally goes "i didnt realize you had a crush on me and if i knew that i wouldnt have been so friendly with you, it would be completely innapropriate for us to be in a relationship". overall its a really sweet and emotional fun show but if you have issues with weight talk id skip this one
2. tale of the nine tailed
this one is really recent from last year and i didnt expect to be so hooked by it but boy howdy did i get attached to all the characters and the wild plot. it feels hard to explain the plot but basically a nine tailed fox named lee yeon is living in modern day seoul and is working for the underworld finding paranormal spirits/creatures/other rogue foxes that are causing havoc on the world, hes resigned himself to living this life while waiting for his girlfriend who died tragically 600 years ago to come back to life because he traded his status as a mountain god in order to ensure that her soul would one day be reincarnated. a plucky investigative journalist named nam ji ah figures out that hes not human and shenanagins ensue because she looks exactly like his dead girlfriend oooooo whatll happen. the plot beyond that gets really wild and its hard to explain and is easier to just watch. if u enjoy paranormal adventures this one is good. my one big complaint and issue with this is that the immortal mountain spirit meets his original girlfriend when shes a child and she continues to visit him off and on as she grows up which is Hm I Dont Like That! but thankfully the present time romance our female lead meets him when shes about 30 if im remembering right. also warnings for general fantasy violence, references to child abuse, animal death, and abandonment issues
3. extraordinary you
HUGE unreality warning for this. if you have issues with feeling unreal or have paranoia/delusions about not being a real person id avoid this one just because of its premise
ok i know i said tale of the nine tailed was a hard plot to explain but BOY extraordinary you is even HARDER to explain. because its so wild but so good. its about a girl who realizes that she is literally a side character in a comic book, and the story becomes her trying to change the story to save her character from dying but it becomes a lot more than that. the romance in this is literally tooth achingly sweet and the show itself is very pretty, i loved the side characters in this one and the show was engaging and interesting to watch it became really layered and meta. super reccomend this one honestly. my main issues/warnings that i can remember off the top of my head were just one character being the classic controlling boyfriend stereotype, bullying someone specifically for being poor, unreality like i mentioned before, and then at the very end there was this love interest for a side character who got reincarnated from a past piece of writing that they had been in and put in the comic but she was a student and he was the school cook which is weird but thankfully they like barely interact at all and theres no real romance he just like recognizes her and its barely a thing at the end of the show but its still weird
4. mystic pop up bar
big warning for suicide, sexual harrasment (which is framed as being bad and the guy whos harrassing the girl literally gets thrown off a roof)
i havent finished this one yet and thats mainly because im not emotionally ready because this one makes me soooo emotional. if you like found family this is a good one. its about a pop up bar run by a woman whos been tasked with solving the problems of a certain amount of people in order to atone for her crimes in the past before dying, shes able to enter the dreams of people and solve their issues using the information she gets in the dreams. paranormal shenanagins ensue, she acquires a son and a husband and it kills me its so fun and quirky and fun despite handling dark themes and peoples problems. also very sweet the found family murders me
5. kingdom (netflix original)
i literally am not going to be able to watch any other zombie media because kingdom and train to busan are the best pieces of zombie media ive ever seen. warnings for gore and violence and just general horror aspects.
i absolutely love this one its so thrilling and well done, i love the acting and the way that this show looks its absolutely gorgeous. a zombie plague breaks out in joseon period korea where the emperor has died and then was brought back to life by the queen and her father in a ploy to try and keep their family in political power, the crown prince must find answers. a lot more happens and its very dramatic and good i love the characters in this one
cdramas
1. the untamed. if you follow me and you havent watched the untamed im begging you to watch the untamed. literally one of the most beautiful stories ive experienced in my life i am not joking when i say i cried multiple times over it. the main characters are canonically gay in love and have a son together please watch the untamed. handles a lot of dark themes, heres a tw guide
2. the sleuth of the ming dynasty
this is another one i havent finished but its fun so far, very gay, found family, food, and solving murder mysteries during the ming dynasty
3. hikaru no go (also known as qi hun)
havent finished this one, there is some propaganda about hong kong in the first episode but as far as i know thats the only instance of something like that in the show
this ones about the game go and so far its very sweet and fun, local boy awakens a ghost who was a master of the game of go hundreds of years ago and eventually is persuaded to learn how to play go with the aid of the ghost. im really liking this one so far its very cute and i love the characters in it. if youve watched the untamed nie huaisangs actor ji li is in this one!
4. the legend of yunqian
this ones very short and on youtube, all the episodes are about 5 minutes long and its a lesbian time travel fantasy adventure with a happy ending! funny and cute
jdramas
1. cherry magic
please please please watch cherry magic. the premise sounds very much like a weird yaoi kind of thing but trust me on this. trust me. it is so heart warming and sweet and i was so emotional about it and the growth of the main character.
adachi gains the power to read peoples minds on his 30th birthday based off a urban legend that if youre a 30 year old virgin that youll become a wizard. after gaining this power he accidentally finds out that his extremely popular and handsome coworker has a crush on him, and shenanagins ensue along with adachi having blossoming feelings in return. this show was really refreshing in a lot of ways, adachi is a main character who like.. is unsure of himself and insecure in a very kind of realistic way, he closes himself off and is afraid to reach out to people and through the course of the show we see him slowly come out of his shell and realize that hes likeable and lovable and that people want to be around him and its so nice to see. my main complaint about this show is that i dont really like the background couple, but otherwise this is a very sweet and refreshing gay romance that has a happy ending!
some others that i myself havent seen but that ive seen people talk about a lot and that i want to watch eventually:
- the legend of fei (cdrama)
- the wolf (cdrama)
- gaurdian (cdrama, not the kdrama one called goblin)
- healer (kdrama, i did watch some of this one but it was in 2016 and i never finished it so i barely remember any of it but i do remember liking it)
- nobody knows (kdrama)
- its ok to not be ok (kdrama)
sorry this is so long but i hope youll be able to find a drama u enjoy!!

Helllu! I see you've been watching lots of chinese/korean dramas. Can you rec your favs?
Hello!! Of course I can n.n (sorry it took so long to answer, I kept making changes to this aha). I’ve decided to list my current top 3 favourites, because apparently I’ve watched a lot.
Okay guys, here goes.
Chinese dramas:
So lately the past year or so of my life has been consumed by cdrams (and recently kdramas by extension), but here are some of my faves that I’ve watched.
The Untamed
Tumblr media
Anyone who follows my blog knows my crazy obsession with this amazing show. It’s based off of a novel called the Grandmaster of demonic cultivation (has an anime with the same name– s2 is slowly being released right now). The story takes place in a world ruled by the evil Wen Sect. Wei Ying and Lan Zhan cross paths and become good friends (hardcore bromance). Wei Ying tries to save innocent Wen from death, and in the end, he lost almost everything. After going missing for 16 years, the pair find each other again and try to find the real villain.
It’s full of action, mystery, adventure, heart ache, supernatural ghouls, longing, whumping, and an amazingly attractive cast that should honestly be illegal. If you’re looking for a show with lots of emotional pain that will swallow you whole, then you’re in the right place.
P/s. the 2 mains sing their love song which makes it that much more beautiful/painful.
Ps/s. IT ALSO JUST GOT PUT ONTO NETFLIX GUYS. No excuses not to binge it, and when you do, dm me so we can fangirl together.
Guardian
Tumblr media
Another drama based off of a novel, with gay bros, longing, and adventure. Shen Wei is an immortal (kind of), and currently a university professor that has been waiting centuries for his lover/friend (Yunlan) to repay him for what he gave Shen Wei and will do anything for him. Zhao Yunlan is the head of the SID, a department that solves mysteries and crimes with supernatural origins. Together they help save others, solve mysteries, and save the world from Shen Wei’s evil twin brother.
All I can say about this one is that if you haven’t seen it, you’re seriously missing out (but warning, the cgi is horrible lmao). It was also super amazing seeing Zhu Yilong in a main role like this. The king of micro-expression seriously doesn’t let us down.
Legend of Fuyao
Tumblr media
This show had consumed my soul for about a full month and a half until I finished it. When I finished watching, it left me sad that it was over. Got to be honest, the ending is still a bit confusing, but is still worth the watch. This is an epic love story about Fuyao, an orphan looking for adventure, but gets caught in a fight between kingdoms and destiny. Along the way, she meets the Crown Prince and they fall in love, but destiny has their fates already decided. They are on the opposite sides of good and evil and need to decide whether one lives and the other dies. It’s got amazing fight scenes and a really attractive male lead (his first lead in a show I believe). Super amazing acting, because let’s be real, any show with Yang Mi is an automatically good show. She’s just too amazing.
Other honourable mentions: Granting you a dreamlike life, Eternal Love, Untouchable Lovers, the Rise of Phoenixes, Detective L– were amazing shows I could rewatch until I die.
Side note: I am super excited for Xiao Zhan’s Jade Dynasty. So hopefully that movie will be available to us soon.
Korean Dramas:
All right guys. I’ve only recently started watching korean shows about half a year ago or so, so I haven’t seen too many, but the ones I have seen I’ve fallen into a deep love with that keeps me going lol.
My Country: The New Age (ongoing)
Tumblr media
This show only has 8 episodes so far and I can’t tell you all how amazing this show is. Words can literally not even describe how much it’s consuming every waking second of my life right now. I think the main reason is Seon ho, who started off as someone you respect, but is constantly doing bad shit. He tries to salvage good things from the wrecks he keeps making, but who knows how long that will last. He is ambiguous and slowly turning into a villain. He is slowly turning into the things he wants to destroy and it’s heartbreaking. My heart aches for him and Hwi all the damn time. I just want them to be bff again and stop fighting, but of course this won’t happen. This show has political turmoil and a country at war with a royal family and council who just wants to watch the world burn. Of course, this means manipulating everyone to get what they want, but both Hwi and SH are trying to play their own game, accidentally putting themselves against each other constantly. Watch for heart break, friendship (sometimes), and very attractive male leads aha.
Also, the music is 1000000 thumbs up. All I can say is PLEASE WATCH IT AND FREAK OUT WITH ME.
It’s on netflix, so guys, no excuse lol (DM me to fangirl with me
Black
Tumblr media
I don’t want to spoil too much about this show because it’s honestly an experience. It’s about a girl who can see when people are going to die because of the shadows that follow them. She meets a childhood friend, who has a secret, and he asks her to help him solve crimes and protect people from dying, but of course he has his own plans. Get ready for a funny and badass female lead guys.
It’s the first korean drama I watched and will always be one of my faves. It’s an incredible murder-mystery story with more layers than a damn onion. It’ll keep you on your toes and the ending makes me cri evry tiem.
Arthdal Chronicles
Tumblr media
At first I thought this show was kind of weird, but an episode in and I was hooked. This show is difficult to explain, but it starts with a war between Arth and the Neanthal. 2 legendary babies get separated and live in opposite parts of the country. This show is hard to describe but it follows the 3 mains, Eunsom, Tanya, and Saya (and Tagon/ Taelha lol) and their fight through tragedy, and sometimes hell on Arth (lol – like hell on earth – am I funny yet). It’s all about a fight for power and revenge among the tribes. Every single character in this show has a different reason, but they all want power to get revenge, basically.
The fantasy aspect of this show and the different ‘species’ are incredible. It does get very political, but the fun of it is all the plotting, and how the characters fix their plans that don’t work out. Half way through I kept screaming at my TV for the mains (Tanya/Saya specifically) to just fkking talk to each other ughhh. Also, Saya will be my favourite unstable boy forever.
It has 18 episodes on netflix so far, but just signed up for 2 more seasons (thank god because if they stopped at 18 eps I’d pull a Rosa Diaz and kill everyone and then myself -.-”). I can’t wait for it to come back. GIVE ME MORE CONTENT.
Other honourable mentions: Hwarang, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung (not finished it yet, which is why it’s not up in my top 3), Missing 9, W Two worlds, Warrior Baek Dong Soo.
Thanks for reading and requesting!
I am always looking for new shows to watch, so send me recs too. I find my favourite ones are the historical dramas. But let me knoww!

I mentioned recently that one of my 2020 New Year’s resolutions was to watch a kdrama, and it is In Progress. We have started watching Goblin aka Guardian: the Lonely and Great God. @gizkasparadise wanted updates, so I decided you’re all going on this journey along with me.
You can watch it for free on Viki Rakuten. We have a Roku, and we were just able to add it as a channel. It has commercials, and I think they are inserted automatically, just like in the middle of a scene or something, so that’s pretty annoying. At least when it comes back, it rewinds about 10 seconds so you can remember where you were. Oh, well, it’s free. There are 16 episodes and 3 specials, which range between an hour and an hour and a half.
Cut for S P O I L E R S
Episode 1
What has happened so far:
Kim Shin is a badass general who kills a million dudes with his sword, it is very cool. He gets home from this terrible battle and the king (who has an evil vizier whispering in his ear) accuses him of being a traitor, even though it’s obvious that he’s very loyal, and the king kills his family in front of him and then has him killed (the king is nice enough to let Kim Shin’s army bestie do it for him). We are presumably going to get more background why this all happened in the future flashbacks, I will be pissed otherwise. The people are really upset and pray a lot, and between that and the fact that Kim Shin killed just… so many people, he comes back as a goblin, a guardian spirit who wrecks assholes. Like the Incredible Hulk, he’s cursed to wander the earth until he meets his bride who will… pull his sword out of the ground? Pull the sword out of him? I was unclear on that part.
Time jump! Shin is wandering around town and he sees the Grim Reaper, Wang Yeo. I guess they are professional acquaintances or something. Shin immediately roasts Yeo’s hat.
A young pregnant woman is hit by a car, and prays for help, and Kim Shin takes time out of his busy pop-drinking schedule to go talk to her. He is moved by the fact that she wants her baby to live, and breaks his usual policy of not messing around with human life and death and saves her. After she gets taken to the hospital, Wang Yeo shows up and there are no souls to take and he’s like “wtf.” This is important later.
The baby grows up and can see ghosts. Her mom dies and Wang Yeo shows up and tries to take her as well, but the old grocery lady her mom was friends with pulls some bureaucracy on him and he leaves, pissed. (This show is hard to recap because so many tiny things happen that are important later!) The girl, whose name is Eun Tak, gets sent to live with relatives.
Time jump again! Eun Tak is now a teen! She doesn’t really have friends at school and ghosts pester her all the time. Her mean relatives are mean to her, so she goes out to eat her birthday cake alone on a jetty in the rain (BIG MOOD). She breaks her usual policy of not making wishes by making a birthday wish for a part-time job, a better life, and a boyfriend and accidentally… summons Kim Shin. He is like “wtf?” She is like “wtf?” She roasts him. He leaves.
I forgot! Kim Shin has this family of servants who take care of his house for him when he goes out to look for his bride. The grandfather of the family is getting too old, and has passed this responsibility to his trash grandson. Kim Shin gets home, and the grandson, Deok Hwa, is like, “oh, I didn’t know you were coming back so soon, I rented your house out” and OH NO, he has rented the house to Wang Yeo. Shit, fam.
Some other stuff happens. Eun Tak figures out that she can summon Kim Shin by blowing out candles. She figures out that he is a Goblin (which he denies) and deducts that she might be a Goblin Bride on the basis that ghosts call her “Goblin Bride” all the time (he denies this, also). He is tired of her and walks out a door and goes to Canada. She follows him. She is so flabbergasted to be in Canada that she decides she is in love with him. END EPISODE 1.
Thoughts:
Kim Shin has huge Christopher Lambert Highlander vibes. I don’t know if it’s his collection of 90’s sweaters (this came out in 2016!), or just his general demeanor. He was super hot back when he was a general, but I am less impressed with him in the present, he’s kind of a dick. His floppy hair is so good, tho.
I love Wang Yeo, the Grim Reaper, so, so much. (Polynya, no one could have predicted this. No one.) I love his terrible hat. Seriously, it’s real bad. I love his horrible bedside manner. I love that he makes tea for dead people. I don’t think you’re supposed to love him. I love him.
I have been having a lot of ghost mom feelings lately (y’know thinking about dying and protecting your children against supernatural forces, these are normal feelings that everyone has, don’t at me), and I loved Ghost Mom. She was really cute and the old grocery lady was unnecessarily mean to her and it sucked that she got hit by a car twice. I assumed that it’s because she was supposed to die that way the first time, and it was just her fate catching up with her, but lady, learn to look both ways, seriously. I am guessing we are not going to see much more of her and I’m sad about that.
It’s like they really wanted Sarah McLachlan to do the soundtrack and she was busy or something. They even went to Canada at the end, I assumed that was why.
The roasts in this show are next level. “A teen drags mystical beings” is my favorite genre of fiction, and this is just ::chef’s kiss::, but the Kim Shin / Wang Yeo roommates sitch is obviously also going to be off the chain. Also, old magical grocery lady was brutal.
Eun Tak is a Perfect Teen. She cannot be reasoned with. She is absolutely feral. I am declaring her my precious daughter. Kim Shin is in so much trouble.
I read a lot of stories about immortal beings, and I wonder, often, if an immortal being would even be interested in a teen. Even without the legal ramifications, the very idea of dating a teen makes me so, so tired. Imagine being 400 years old, and falling in love with someone who constantly tries to explain TikTok to you. I guess maybe the idea is that they are so tired of existence that it’s refreshing to meet someone who doesn’t even know who Paul McCartney is.
Watching this show made me realize that “member of a clan of mortals who support an immortal being over many generations” is the ideal career path for me. I would be so good at setting up fake identities and maintaining different houses and knowing a bunch of lore and wearing cloaks. If you are an immortal being who is unhappy with your current family line of servants, feel free to slide into my DMs. I even have a son already who would also be aces at this. (no vampires, pls)
My darling spouse seemed kind of skeptical about the whole kdrama thing and I was worried I was going to have to watch this by myself, but he just wandered in and moaned, “I’m not sure I want to wait a whole week to watch another episode of Goblin…” so this experiment is going pretty good so far.

Forever.
Tumblr media
one shot.
Halloween Special
pairing: Jin x Reader
genre: fluff, angst (if you squint)
warnings: mentions of death, a bit of profanity
a/n: well I’m back with another story! This is the first part of a Halloween Special I have prepared for you guys, I hope you all like it 😬. Idek why I named this a Halloween special if it isn’t even scary at all 😅 this might sound familiar to you if you’ve watched the KDrama “Goblin”, I got some ideas from there. I know I still have some requests to do, so please don’t think I’ve forgotten about them! It’s just I’m working on them whenever I get a break from work and school. Well anywayyyysss, I’ll let you guys go now. See you on the next one!
Tumblr media
How long has it been since you’ve been doing this? A hundred? Two hundred years? To be quite honest, you had stopped counting.
You pulled out a card out of your pocket, a name with red letters imprinted on it. “Woo Shin.” You mumbled to yourself as you stood on the sidewalk, observing the man who had ignored the ‘do not cross’ sign. You tightened your black coat around you as you heard a loud bang. A car had just ran into the man. The driver quickly got down his vehicle and examined the person he had just collided into. People started to gather around. Some wanting to help, others just to be nosey. On the other side of the side walk you spotted a man that looked startled, not fully grasping what had happened. You slowly started to walk across the street, your heels clicking with each step you took.
“Woo Shin.” You called to the man. Mr. Shin turned to look at you, his eyes pleading. Hoping you’d make some sense of this situation. Hoping you’d know why he was thrown on the floor bleeding but yet he was also unharmed on the sidewalk. “24. Born on the 20th of October in 1993. Died at 11:38AM, October 17, 2018. Cause of death: car collision.” You took a step closer, your eyes locking with him in an attempt to calm him down. “That’s you, right?”
Tumblr media
“Ten minutes till we start, guys. Let’s start wrapping up everything.” The manager called to the boys. The members of BTS allowed their stylists to apply the final touches to their outfits, make up and hair before they started to line up to go onto the stage. They were in the middle of their promotions and this was one of fan meets they had planned to hold. The ten minutes passed and the boys made their way onto the stage to greet their fans. They did their usual thing, everything went by smoothly. They signed albums, received presents, talked with the ARMY and so on. Before they knew it, it was all over. Another successful event, one would say.
“It’s always great to see ARMY!” Hobi exclaimed as they walked into the dressing room.
“I agree. They always show us so much love and support! I only wish to do the same for them.” Jin added.
The rest of the boys joined in. Talking about how much they loved ARMY and how they had lots of fun today. After five minutes or so, their manager came into the room and informed them that they had the rest of the day off. They immediately started thinking of ways they could spend the day. Yoongi wanted to stay in the apartment and work on some songs. Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook decides to go to a nearby mall and buy clothes, saying they didn’t have anything to wear. As if their closets weren’t already topped to the max. Namjoon said he wanted to take his dog out for a walk and Hoseok decided to tag along and take his. Jin just wanted to go buy a cup of coffee at a nearby coffee shop he’d been eyeing for a while. Once changed out of the fan meet’s outfits, the boys said their goodbyes and headed to their destinations. Jin typed in the name of the coffee shop into the navigation system on his phone. Within a few seconds, the application told him he was only ten minutes away. “Alright, lets go.”
Tumblr media
You sat on the counter awaiting for the barista to call your name. Well... it wasn’t really your name. You didn’t have a name and it’s not like you could just say ‘Oh yeah, put it under the Grim Reaper’. Each time you had a different one. Alice, Laila, Katie and on and on. Today you were Y/N. You were trying to kill time, ha kill time, before the next card came in. Today was particularly slow. Not that you were complaining or wished for more people to pass away, it’s just that you preferred the days where you had lots to do that way you wouldn’t be having nonsense thoughts while starring at the living.
“Y/N! Ms. Y/N!”
At first you didn’t react, but the constant calling of the name reminded you that your drink was ready and it was you whom they were calling for. You quickly stood up and walked over to the counter, you apologized many times before grabbing the drink and turning around. You walked away while looking down, not paying much attention to your surroundings and just as you were about to reach the exit you bumped into someone, causing the hot liquid to spill on your white shirt. You felt the coffee burn the skin on your stomach, causing you to wince in pain. You’d think that being the Grim Reaper and all you’d be immune to this. Although you were immortal, you still had human emotions and needs. Part of your punishment you’d like to think.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” You heard a male voice. He quickly reached over to a nearby table and grabbed a couple of napkins. He handed them to you still muttering apologies.
“Ah no, it’s okay!” You said as you took the napkins from him. Your cold fingers touching his warm ones, causing you to slightly flinch. “It’s my fault for not looking to where I was going. It’s a bad habit I have.”
When you looked up, you felt a strange pain in your chest. If you had a beating heart, you could’ve sworn that it would’ve stopped at that exact moment. Perhaps the right word to describe him would be breathtakingly beautiful, because that’s exactly what had happened. You had forgotten to breathe until his hand waving in front of your face brought you back to your senses.
“I’m sorry, d-did you say something?”
“I asked if you were okay. I’m sure that coffee must’ve been scalding hot. If it’s okay with you, we can go to the hospital so they can take a look at you.” He repeated, a kind smile adorning his face.
You quickly waved your hand in dismissal. “No! That’s not necessary, I promise I’m okay.” If only he knew that things like these didn’t face you the way it would face a living human. Yeah it hurt like hell, but after a couple of hours the wound would disappear. “It’s really nothing.”
“Then at least let me compensate you for the shirt I just ruined.” He kept on insisting. “It looks expensive.”
At that, you looked down at your now coffee-stained shirt. To be honest, it was kind of expensive but after centuries of collecting offerings, money wasn’t really something that you concerned yourself with. “Ah, it’s fine really.”
“Nonsense!” He quickly protested and walked over to the counter where a barista was standing and asked for something. When he came back, he grabbed a napkin and started jotting down something. “Here!” He said extending it over to you, urging you to take it. “Just give me a call or text with the shirt price and I’ll make sure to reimburse you for it. That’s my cellphone number, so don’t be shy and please contact me.”
You examined the paper. “Jin?” You asked, looking at the napkin and it’s contents like something out of this world.
“Yup, that’s me!” He replied with a beaming smile. Jin then looked at the watch on his wrist and you saw that his eyes widened in surprise. “I’m sorry, I kind of have to go but please make sure to contact me. Don’t leave me feeling guilty for too long!”
And with that he was gone. Jin had been like a spring breeze of air that was so refreshing and new. You haven’t really had many experiences with mortals before so maybe this was one of the reasons why you were feeling like this, but you also knew that it was something other than that. It would be that fateful meeting with Jin that it would set in motion something that neither you or him were prepared for. Something dangerous and beautiful altogether. Something that would change both of your lives.
“Wait,” You whispered to yourself, finally looking up from the napkin. “what is a cellphone?”
Jin sped through the streets, having forgotten that he had made plans with his family to go out for dinner. He hadn’t gotten too far from the cafe when a thought popped into his head. He hadn’t asked for your name and that bothered him in a way he couldn’t explain. He only hoped that you’d end up contacting him after all. Although from the way you were behaving it left him with little to no hope.
Tumblr media
When you got home later that day you researched on your laptop what a cellphone was. After your investigation, you couldn’t believe that you had a computer but not a cellphone but then again, you never really needed one. The laptop you did, for work purposes. The way it worked was still a mystery to you. The next day you went out to the store and bought one. There were so many options and so many things the store associate was telling you that they did, that you couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by all of it. Regardless, you choose the phone which you thought was best and got it over with. As soon as you got back to your place, you saved Jin’s phone number after a thousand tries and many google searches.
A week passed but you still hadn’t contacted him. Every time you were about to click on the call or text message icon you quickly talked yourself out of it and threw your phone across the room. “You’re the Grim Reaper but you’re scared of making a single phone call? How pathetic.”
One day, you being the intellectual that you are, pressed the call button by accident during your daily debate whether to contact him or not. You started panicking the moment you saw and heard the dial tone. You paced back and forth with the phone in hand, your index finger making little dances above the ‘end call’ button. Before you could do anything, the line connected and you heard his voice.
“Hello?” He asked but you were too shocked to mutter out a response. “Hello? Is this a spam call?”
You let out a shaky breath before you finally spoke. “Hello? Um, this is...” ‘Quickly! Think of a name, think of something!’ Your mind quickly went back to that day and decided to go with the name you had given the barista when you two met. “Y/N. We bumped into each other the other day at a coffee shop.”
“Ohhh, hello!” You beard him say excitedly. “I was starting to worry that maybe you weren’t going to contact me after all. I told you not to make me feel guilty for too long. So your name was Y/N, huh? That’s a nice name.”
“I-I’m sorry, that wasn’t my intention.” You quickly apologized, you had no idea that he was actually joking with you. “I also called you to let you know that I don’t need any compensation. It really was an accident and to be completely honest, it was mostly my fault.” ‘Good save!’
“A-ah, no it’s okay.” You could tell that your response had taken him by surprise. “Are you sure, Y/N?”
“I’m sure, please don’t worry about it no more.” You insisted.
“Well alright, if you insist.” Jin finally surrendered. With that your conversation pretty much died and you didn’t know what to do in these type of situations. “So...” Jin decided to break the silence. “What type of work do you do?”
You quickly hanged up the phone. After a couple of seconds, you realized what you had done but panic had overcome you and this was just an immediate body response. You couldn’t tell Jin you were a Grim Reaper. A loud ding interrupted your thoughts. “Text message?” You read confused as you unlocked the phone as instructed by the screen.
Hey, Y/N. I think the call failed or something. I’ve been having bad reception these days, so I think it was that. Anyways, I was wondering if maybe you’d be up to for coffee? I want to make it up for the one that I spilled. I know, I know. You don’t want any type of compensation, but come on it’s coffee!
You wondered how to answer to his text. Damn this world and it’s technology! What happened to hand-written letters? However, you finally noticed that on top of your keyboard there were responses typed out like: “yes”, “okay”, “no”, to name a few. You opted for the “okay” and waited. Within a few minutes you received Jin’s reply, stating the place and the time of your meet up. You couldn’t help but smile at your phone.
Seokjin was very excited. He just couldn’t wait to see you once again. Weird, huh? Considering that he had only seen you once, and for a couple of minutes only. There just was something about you that seemed to pull him in, that left him wanting to know you better and be with you. However, he quickly jumped off his bed and headed for Namjoon’s room. Jin knocked on the door twice and waited.
“Come in!” The leader of BTS called.
Jin slowly opened the door but didn’t step into the room. He only wanted to confirm something. “Hey Namjoon, sorry for bothering you so late. I just wanted to ask if we had anything planned for tomorrow? You know, like meetings or recordings?”
Joon looked away from the book he was reading and reached for his phone. After a couple of minutes, he shook his head and turned to face the raven haired male by his door. “In the morning we have practice. We’re learning a new choreography but other than that it seems like the rest of the evening is free.”
Jin let out a sigh of relief. Before Namjoon could say anything Jin started closing the door. “Thank you! I’ll let you go now, goodnight!”
RM let out a chuckle. He wanted to ask Jin about his plans for tomorrow, although he could take a good guess at what they were.
Tumblr media
You looked at your wrist watch and smiled to see that you were doing good with time. Today you weren’t wearing you usual black attire, instead you were wearing a pair of jeans with some black boots, a gray sweater and a pink coat. Pink was Jin’s favorite color, you had come to learn this during one of your past meet ups. At first, you had developed this habit of standing up and running away every time he asked you something personal, something a mortal would do. Like your last name or the type of job you’d do. As soon as he would sprung a question like that, you’d excuse yourself and say you had something to do, but end up calling him the following day to meet and give an answer to his question. It wasn’t until you were about to leave once again, that Seokjin grabbed your hand and told you that it was okay. That you didn’t have to share anything personal if you didn’t wanted to and that he’d wait until you were ready, but... there wasn’t really anything you could say. From there, you guys took off. You started wearing more lively clothes and putting lipstick instead of lip balm. Jin told you that he was an idol and that his group was named BTS. He was the oldest of the seven members and he likes to cook. He owns two sugar gliders named Odeng and Eomuk, with whom he plays with each time he gets. You liked the way his hair would be all over the place because he was running late to meet with you, but you didn’t mind because after a google research and many YouTube videos, you knew how demanding his job was. Or the way his lips pout slowly while he’s talking, or the way he always made you laugh with his great jokes. Oh boy! You hadn’t laughed so much in your four hundred years of being a Grim Reaper. You knew this wasn’t right, that there was no chance that the two of you could ever be anything more than friends but it was already too late. These feeling had already made its way into your heart and planted themselves there, only for them to grow more and more each time you saw Jin. Things had already been set in motion and there was nowhere to go but forward.
“Man, I’m running late again!” Jin exclaimed as he turned the corner. One of his practices had ran longer than intended to, which delayed his plans with you. He wanted to take you out this time to a proper date. Dinner and maybe some ice cream, no more coffee and cookies but by the look of things, maybe it wasn’t going to happen after all. He knew he wasn’t the only one that felt this way, he wasn’t the only one with feelings. Seokjin wanted more than a simple friendship. How long has it been that you knew each other already? Five, six months? Was he being greedy? Jin quickly shook his head, dismissing those thoughts. Once the coffee shop started coming into view, he stopped and started walking. He tried to regain his composure, trying to make it seem like he wasn’t running just a few seconds ago. When he saw you, he felt like his heart skipped a beat. You weren’t wearing black as usual, not that he minded it, but seeing you in something different only made him fall harder. As he walked through the doors, you quickly noticed his presence and waved with a smile. That smile that Jin wanted to protect, to cherish. He quickly made his way over to you and took a seat on the chair across from you. “I’m sorry for running late, again. Things just came up.” Jin said while brushing the back of his head embarrassed.
You quickly shook your head. “Oh, no! Don’t worry about it, I totally understand. It’s part of your job after all.”
“Thank you for understanding.” He said gratefully. “But still, I wanted to do something nice for you today.”
“Jin, you do something nice for me every time we see each other.”
“And what is that?” He asked, trying to recall of he really had.
“You being with me.”
Jin’s head immediately snapped up. His eyes widened and his heart beat quickened. He couldn’t believe how lucky he had gotten for meeting you. “I’m so grateful I spilled that coffee on you back then. You know what, screw it! Let’s go do something!” He quickly stood up from the chair and urged you to follow. You couldn’t help but wonder what he meant by that, but dismissed it. You were just happy that Jin was back to his usual, happy self.
That night Jin and you did so, so many things. First, he took you to watch a movie, a horror one. You found it cute how Jin tried to act all tough saying things like ‘if you get scared tell me and we can take off’, but ended up being the one that got scared instead. Then he took you to eat fish cakes on a stand and not to be dramatic or anything, but these were easily the best fish cakes you had eaten in centuries. Then he took you to the arcade and karaoke! Wow, his voice was so beautiful. It was like listening to angels sing but better, much much better! Just when you thought you were going to call it a night, he stopped by a flower shop that was weirdly still open at late hours of the night.
“Here, for you.” Jin said once he was back, handing the flowers over to you.
“F-for me?” This took you completely by surprise. You had never been given flowers before. To you, flowers meant that someone had passed away. However, tonight Jin have them a whole new meaning. You extended your hands to grab the bouquet but before you could get your hands on it, someone swatted them to the floor. Causing for the beautiful flowers to fall apart.
“What the hell was that?” Jin asked. You could tell he was fuming by the tone of his voice. When the two of you turned to the direction where the hand had come from, you noticed a group of four men.
“Aw, sorry. Did we interrupt you little date?” One of the me asked in a mocking manner.
Jin only ignored them, grabbing you by the hand and started to walk in the opposite direction of them. Suddenly you felt someone grabbing you by your other wrist, pulling you away from Jin. You hand lost a hold of his. You knew these men meant trouble, you wanted to put them in their place but you couldn’t. Jin was here and if you used your powers he would never see you the same way again. He quickly turned around, fear eminent in his eyes.
“We were talking to you!” The same man exclaimed. With a swift movement he threw you into the arms of another man and started walking towards Jin. You tried to struggle in the most mortal way possible.
“Let her go!” Jin hissed trying to walk around the man but before he could get closer to you, a fist landed on his face. The strength of it was so much that it made Jin fall to the floor, his lip busted.
“Stop! Leave him alone!” You pleaded, but of course it was no use.
“What’s wrong?” The man who had his hold on you spoke. “You don’t want to have a good time with us?”
“I said, let her go!” Jin exclaimed, trying once again to make his way over to you. “What do you guys want? Money? I can give it to you, just don’t hurt her!”
Your chest started hurting. It hurt to see him like this when you knew that you could easily take these punks. Your eyes started swelling up in tears, hating the fact that you were being so selfish just to protect your identity. You should be protecting the man that you love. ‘Wait, do I love Jin?’
Before you had time to answer that question, three of the men launched at him. Landing punches on his face and body, leaving him no chance to retaliate. Blood started coming out of his wounds. Even though he was being beaten to a pulp, Jin wouldn’t stop mumbling the words ‘let her go, please.’ Your blood started boiling, you couldn’t let this go on anymore. You didn’t care if Jin found out who you were. As long as he was safe, that’s all that mattered. With your right hand, you reached over and started peeling the man’s hand off you. The man started panicking, for he had never seen a woman with such strength. Once you had finally gotten him off you, with one swift movement you sent him flying again a wall, knocking him unconscious. At the thudding sound, the three men turned to look in your direction. They couldn’t understand how one of their henchmen had landed all the way over to that wall. There was nobody else in sight and you looked too delicate to do such a thing. What a mistake. You charged at them. The men only started laughing but when you threw the first punch and sent one of them flying, their blood drained completely out of their face.
“What the fuck are you?” One of them said, taking out some brass knuckles and putting them on. The other took out a knife and got into position. They were waiting for you to make the first move, they were also scared. You slowly walked up to them and they slowly backed away, trying to keep the distance.
“What bad manners the two of you have.” You said as you kept on walking. The man with the brass knuckles took a swing at you but you only swatted then away, making them fly off his hands. You then took his hand and twisted it behind his back, causing him to scream in pain. You turned him around and threw him against the wall that you had thrown the first man to. The one holding the knife threw it away and threw himself on his knees, begging to be spared. You only rolled your eyes. “Go sit with your other buddies over there, don’t you dare move.”
“Y/N.” Jin whispered. He was witnessing everything but he wasn’t sure if he was seeing things due to the state he was in or if you really had taken down four thugs all by yourself. Before he could say anything more, Jin passed out. Meanwhile, you were dragging the last man over to where the other three were. Once they were all together and had regained some sort of consciousness again, you squatted down and started bending all sorts of metals on top of them. Trapping them in a little cage.
“Look me in the eye.” You started saying. “The four of you tried bothering that young man and ended up getting beaten the crap out of you.” You said as you pointed over to where Jin was laying. “You will not be found right away but you will not also die. In two days time, you’ll be found by the authorities and be taken to prison for your constant suppression on this neighborhood.” The four men stared blankly for a moment, taking in your instructions. This was one of your other powers as a Grim Reaper, you could erase memories and replace them with new ones. Although you only used it when you were doing some sort of work, there were time where it deemed necessary. Just like tonight. Once you were done with them, you quickly rushed over to Jin’s side. He was unconscious and there were bruises already forming on his face, so you quickly picked him up and teleported the both of you to your apartment. You walked over to your bedroom and placed him carefully on the bed. Without a second thought, you started hovering you hands on top of him injured body. His wounds slowly disappearing with each passing second. A tear started forming in the corner of your eye. You couldn’t stop blaming yourself for what had happened. If only you would’ve acted sooner, then Jin wouldn’t have had to go through that.
“I’m sorry, Jin. I’m sorry for everything.” You said in between sobs. “I hope you can forgive me.”
The sunlight flashing on his face, awoke Jin from his slumber. As he sat up, he noticed that he wasn’t in his bedroom. Suddenly, the events from last night came rushing to his mind. However, no pain or soreness overcame his body. He touched his face and there was no lumps and cuts on it. ‘Was it only just a dream?’ He was about to get up from the bed, when he noticed your face laying on the edge of the bed. You must’ve spent the night sleeping in that uncomfortable sitting position on the cold floor. He felt so guilty for taking your bed, so he stood and tried scooping you into his arms to lay you down on your bed. However, the moment you felt someone trying to lift you up, you immediately pushed them away. You had forgotten Jin had spent the night.
“Ow!” You heard him complain, just after he had hit one of your room walls. “So last night did happen! I was actually beaten up but why am I not injured?”
You took a deep breath as you took a seat on your bed and patted the spot next to you, so he could join you. Once he did, you started explaining to him everything that happened last night. Then everything about who you were and what you did. ‘Might as well just be honest once and for all.’ You thought. As you talked, you tried to examine Jin’s face, to try and see what he was feeling but his face was blank. You couldn’t read it at all and that scared you. After what seemed forever, you finally finished talking. A deep silence permeated the room.
“So how old are you?” Jin asked. Random ass question with all things considered.
“Wow, my mom is not going to approve of this relationship if we tell her your real age.” He started saying while scratching his head. “But if we tell her you’re my age then that’s completely fine! You don’t look a day older than twen—“
Your giggles interrupted him, that then turned into laughs. You couldn’t believe it. You had just told Jin that you were The Grim Reaper and he was worried whether or not his mom would approve? This boy surely was something else.
“What’s so funny?” He asked skeptically.
“It’s just... aren’t you scared of me? Or mad that I’ve lied to you?”
“Were the way you feeling while you were with me a lie?” He asked.
“No, they were not.” You said looking down.
“Then that’s all that matters.” Jin said wrapping his arms around you. “I do have to admit that I never thought something like this would happen to me, but I don’t regret meeting you at all. The attraction I felt towards you since the moment we met was something I could never understand, but perhaps it was destiny who had it all planned out. For us to meet, I mean. From there my feelings just started growing more and more, until I had completely fallen for you. I love you, Y/N. Do you love me?”
You looked up to meet his eyes. How could you not love him? He was the most amazing person in the whole world. So caring, so understanding, so perfect. “Of course I love yo—“
Jin interrupted you with a kiss, taking you completely by surprise. You felt his warm hand coup the side of your face, causing you to give in. To his kiss, to his touch. A few seconds passed and the two of you finally pulled away. “I’m sorry.” Jin said. “I couldn’t help myself.”
“A-ah no,” You replied while looking away. “its okay. I liked it.”
“Oh, really? Then you won’t mind if I do it again?” He teased and before you could say anything, his lips were again against yours.
“Now,” He said as he pulled away again. “isn’t there something you can do to make me immortal too? Forever sounds amazing, if I get to spend it with you.”
“Jin... I’m the Grim Reaper not a vampire.” You said with a chuckle. “But leave it to me, I’ll see what I can do.” Because even if you wouldn’t admit it right there and then, forever with him seemed just perfect.

2016: ON THE TOP OF MY LIST
Last year, I’ve watched more than 10 Korean dramas and there’s this 4 particular dramas that really catches my heart.
Disclaimer: This blog post might contain spoilers so if you haven’t watched the dramas that I will be mentioning here, I hope you can forgive me :)
W-TWO WORLDS
Tumblr media
Synopsis: W-Two worlds is a fantasy-romance about a man and a woman living in different worlds. Yeon Joo is a doctor living in the real world and her father is the author of the most popular webtoon, W. And Kang  Chul is the lead character of that webtoon. Things becomes complicated when Yeon Joo’s father decides to kill Kang Chul and Yeon Joo gets pulled into the comic world and met Kang Chul.
I was able to watch this drama because of a friend who keeps on telling me that there’s a drama that she’s really into. I wasn’t interested at first because I’m still not yet done with Game of Throne’s season 4. But after few weeks of convincing me, I started to watch the drama and the story began.
It wouldn’t be much to say that it was love at first episode for me with W. The first few episodes of the drama were good but a little dy. But after few more episodes I started to like W. It’s a great fantasy story, a lots of twist and turns. You can’t never be comfortable because you just never know what’s going to happen next. I love the whole concept of a character having to learn he’s from a work of fiction. It’s unbelievable and devastating for the person involved.
What I liked about W-Two Worlds?
Aside from the drama’s bold storytelling, the execution of the two worlds is really my favorite. A serious kudos to the whole production team, because they managed the transition of the two worlds so skillfully.
A cute OTP. Yeon Joo and Kang Chul is really cute together. They can turn the serious scenes into romantic one real quick. One of my favorite scene of them is during the time that Yeon Joo confessed her love to Kang Chul. Before, Yeon Joo randomly says those words to him but he’s not affected at all (It’s her way to go back to the real world). This time, it’s different,  he got swayed by Yeon Joos confession.
Overall, W-Two worlds was fun and crazy ride. With action packed fantasy story. It’s highly recommended if you’re a fan of those kind of genres.
MOONLIGHT DRAWN BY CLOUDS (LOVE IN THE MOONLIGHT)
Tumblr media
I have to tell you this guys, I really really love this one. Seriously. This drama reminds me all over again why I fell in love with traditional dramas. It wasted no time in grabbing my heart and hold onto it really tight for the entire 18 episodes.
One of the things that comes to my mind when I think of MDBC, aside from Park Bo Gums sweetness, is that this drama is really well made. From the execution of scenes to the delivering of lines, everything.
Yeong (Park Bo Gum’s character) was my favorite among the cast of the show. Yeong’s character is full of charm and you couldn’t resist it I’m telling you. One of my favorite scene of him is during the confession and first kiss on Episode 7. The way Yeong approaches into confession and eventually to his first kiss scene to Ra On got me so kilig. Ugh. This boy makes my heart wobble, seriously. Another one is in Episode 14, when he comes face to face with Ra On in the secret meeting place. I won’t forget his “I will never forgive you” line before walking to Ra On and grabbed her in his arms. I never thought those words could be so romantic. I still haven’t moved on from that.
If there’s a leading man who’s really charming and handsome there should be a better half who has the same characteristics as him which really suits for Kim Yoo Jung. She’s one of the child actresses who’s really grown up so beautiful and talented. I can still remember her, portraying the role of young Yeon-O in Moon embracing the sun (which is my all time favorite drama). I really like Kim Yoo Jung as Ra On, she’s really natural. She’s funny without looking like she’s trying hard. Kim Yoo Jung consistently looks like she’s being herself.
The cast really suits the drama. Aside from the leads, Kwak Dong Yun really catches my attention. His cool but caring friend role is loveable (I’m so kinikilig while typing this one.) Special shout out to the Princess and Master Jung’s loveline. I also enjoyed their love story, even though it’s mostly played for comedy afterall, they are the reason why Ra On and Yeong met.
GOBLIN: THE LONELY & GREAT GOD
Tumblr media
Goblin made me speechless and fall in love in less than a few minutes. As someone who watched many dramas and (I can say) can predict almost everything that’ll happen next, this drama made me laugh, cry & cringe when I didn’t expect I would.
Synopsis: Goblin is about a general way back in Goryeo, who got killed out of jealousy by the King. Because of his desperate wish for revenge, God gave him the chance to become goblin, a creature with immortal life and superpowers.
Goblin is really unpredictable. This drama made me cry, laugh out loud, cringe (Paulit ulit ako haha) and so much more. This drama caught me offguard. It’s so fun to watch and that’s not even all. It makes you think about so many things especially God, good and bad, death, your deeds, you past and so on. It’s really a drama for everyone. It has everything you could wish for: Romance, comedy, poetry, drama and so much more. There’s something about this drama that was really addicting.
Why I like Goblin a lot?
Aside from the unique pairing of Goblin and Eun Tak, the bromance between Goblin and Grim Reaper is really enjoyable. The way they annoy each other is such a riot. Lol One of my favorite funny moments of these two is when they are trying to learn how to use cellphone. Deok Hwa, a younger servant of Goblin, told them the basics on using phone. He said, they should go first to the appstore to download apps then suddenly Goblin started to wear his coat. I was laughing so hard during that scene.
Goblin and Eun Tak’s loveteam is a breath of fresh air. It’s an unusual pair because of the age difference but the chemistry of the two is really cute. They’re not the typical clingy couple but there’s something in them that will make you love them.
Grim Reaper and Sunny’s amazing lovestory. I really love the concept of their relationship. Grim reaper being innocent about impressing girls is so adorable. I think fellow KDrama fans will agree on me that they are another example of second lead syndrome. I seriously hoped that they could make another drama together.
 WEIGHTLIFTING FAIRY KIM BOK JOO
Tumblr media
One word to begin with….. Sweeeeg!
Synopsis: Kim Bok Joo is a weightlifting athlete in a sports university. Her seemingly ordinary life becomes interrupted as she reunited with her elementary schoolmate, Joon Hyung who’s currently an athlete of the swimming team.
WLFKBJ possibly one of the underrated dramas last 2016. I love almost everything about this drama because it really shows the charm and trials of the youths. I seriously wish I could just fill this blog post with only heart emoticons. This drama makes my heart so full and I’m loving it so freaking much. WLFKBJ feels so raw, real and beautiful with more resemblance to life and less of fiction. From the moment I saw the preview online, I felt like this show would really fits my taste.
Here’s the main things that made this show works for me:
The people and stories feels real and relatable. While dramaland is full of shows with fantastical and unusual set-ups, this drama’s charm lies in just how ordinary it’s setting is and how ordinary its characters are.
Lee Sung Kyung as Kim Bok Joo. Oh my God I love her. At first I will admit that I found Bok Joo’s acting a bit exaggerated and her body movements so unnatural but once I accepted that Bok Joo really is a person who walks weird and who really couldn’t help crumpling her face into a pout on a regular basis, I grew to love her. I seriously can relate to Bok Joo, from dealing with self-image, to crushing on boys, to finding meaning in what she does. Maybe because Bok Joo is relatable, I often find myself in her.
Nam Joo Hyuk as Joon Hyung. I Honestly prays to God to have my own Joon Hyung. I just love how he cares so much for Bok Joo even before they become a couple. Which leads to my next favorite thing, Joon Hyung Sweetness. I love it. I love that Bok Joo doesn’t need to be anything or anyone other than herself, to inspire this kind of loyalty, affection and head-over-heels love from him. The two of them shared an amazing amount of chemistry in this show. The skinship feels so natural and easy, I feel like they’ve cuddled a lot before and I’m completely blown away. These two is consistently cute together.
The Friendship of Bok Joo, Seon Ok and Nan Hee.I love that no matter what came between them, they remain as good friends. I seriously can see my friends on them. (Shoutout to my squad. Love you. Ewww Haha) So endearing and yes, full of SWAG!
So far, WLFKBJ is my most loved drama. I don’t know when will I get over because it only sets another standard for me to look at on the coming dramas this year.
The Dramas that I’ve mentioned above is highly recommended I’m assuring you all you won’t regret watching them.Goodnight, Good Morning and SWEEEG!

I do like my fantasy kdramas (and just fantasy in general), I like myths and legends in pretty much any form and I do happen to like the cast of this show (but mainly Jo Bo Ah and Kim Bum... and I still wish Kim Bum was the main lead tbh), so of course I was going to check out Tale of the Nine-tailed.
So far Tale of the Nine Tailed is cliché and very cheesy at times (and I am lactose intolerant). But cheesy and cliché can be fun, and really good if done correctly.
It certainly has a Goblin feel to it in a way. With it's more lighthearted tone with more darker, fantasy elements thrown in there, the comedy feels similar, the mythological creatures, the tragic but fated love story that transcends the centuries, the age gap between the leads and their character they play and of course Lee Dong Wook. I wonder if TvN just saw how well Goblin did, and saw how much people liked Lee Dong Wook in it. And just tried to find another supernatural drama for him.
I am just not sure if I mean that as a good thing or a bad thing. Because I didn't really like Goblin. It was just never something that I really vibe with. I don’t even found Goblin entertaining... but I can’t say the same for Tale of the Nine-tailed. I was entertained by it. I didn’t love it, but I found it quite fun and I wasn’t bored while watching it.
It's something I have seen TvN do before from Goblin to Korean Odyssey. And from experience of watching those two dramas I am hesitant about going into this one, because something about the other two lacked feelings in the way it's presented to me. Like it's too polished or too artificial. It's grand and cool to look at, but the emotions don't always feel earned. I can't really put my finger on it. Maybe I am just a bit bored by these grand, sweeping fantasy dramas from TvN because The King also left me a cold and without feeling.
And Tale of the Nine-Tailed does suffer from similar things that The King did for me, and that is that the main male actor sort doesn't do much for me. But I did like Lee Dong Wook in My Girl, so maybe he can work some magic on me again. I do think he looks bored most of the time here, but that could just be because he is playing a immortal being that is just really tired of life. But I feel like he gave me the same thing in Goblin.
And maybe I just like my grumpy and jaded immortal beings to be played by women who just want someone to make them feel something again and make them smile and feel like someone cares after all these years, instead of men. But we will see, maybe I will get attached to this character.
I think Kim Bum has a much more interesting character and just... he just seems to be a bit more cheeky? is that the right word. But then again... it might just be because I sort of like Kim Bum. Ever since he became one of the few reasons why I finished Boys over Flowers I do have a bit of a fondness for him... like we have been through something together. And I am glad he is back in kdramaland.
So yeah, I was hesitant, but optimistic about starting this one. But, I got to say that I enjoyed these two episodes for the fun, fluff and cheese in a pretty mythological package it gave me. I don't think it's very out of the box when it comes to these fantasy rom-coms of this kind. It feels like a very generic set up, but that’s okay.
A bit extra at times, a bit cheesy, but mostly fun little fantasy adventure and that was sort of all I was hoping for. It didn't catch me in the feels yet. It didn't stir up any emotions other than a chuckle and a smile from time to time, but I was very entertained while watching it.
I like the main female lead, although I could do with a more original and not a basic tragic backstory for her. But that almost comes with the genre, so what can you do. But she is headstrong and smart and I don’t think she needs saving all of the time. I also like the other Gumiho's who are running around and causing havoc or just working to get, and the other mythological people. It's nothing that I have not seen before, but I will take it. I still think it's fun. I want them to get more depth as we go along, and the story to explore their backstories without it feeling like fillers or just fluff to pass the time or act as a filler.
There is some untapped potential here, even if the story feels a bit generic and I feel like I can tell where it will go. That can be fun as well! That can be just what you needed after a hard week of work. Just some fun escapism sounds nice during these times. Sometimes you just need some cheesy fluff... and so far this drama is sort of delivering on that. I watch kdramas a lot for the cheesy fluff. And often they surprise me the further we go into the story.

The TV shows I have watched in 2021, part 1.
Shows I finished:
The Uncanny Counter: Exciting, full of humor and heart and found family, and the character is so lovable and pulls very hard on your heartstrings. That is the strongest aspect of that show, for me. There's a lot of talk about human greed and corruption and other things as that is how the demons in the show feeds, which I sometimes felt a little too heavy handed and the shows spend a bit too much time on that aspect of the plot, but the story manages to be pretty fast-paced, does not drag on too much and there is always some tension there to grab you, so I was never bored.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, s4: This show was so self-aware of itself; both in terms of their flaws and what made them great that they actually managed to be a pretty chill and fun watch. But as the series progressed they somehow lost that spark and the ability, took itself maybe a bit too seriously and yet not serious enough so a part of it was just too silly and some things felt like they were trying to hard to be bold and dark but failed.
Mr. Queen: Shin Hye Sun's amazing performance in the lead role makes Mr. Queen a pretty decent and fun show. It's rather light, funny and exciting. The drama would not be the same without her. It did drag a bit, especially in the beginning, or feel a bit all over the place. A fun, light fusion sageuk.
Signal: I can understand all the praise this show has received and I enjoyed it, but they also never hooked me in the way that I did. But then again this isn't my type of genre and a lot of these types of shows don't manage to do so.
Extraordinary You: At its core, this is a very ordinary teendrama about love and friendship and finding oneself. The drama does a lot of these things incredibly well It's not perfect, but it's so sweet and with a huge heart behind it where you can feel all the emotions the characters are feeling and all of the character, or almost all of them, are so lovable. The concept of it is quite neat, and it does manage to do something new, while also just telling a very standard teendrama story.
Dickinson, s2: It doesn't look or feel like your standard period drama with it's use of modern popmusic and other things are used to make everything a bit surreal and not quite normal. Death comes to visit or someone uses modern slang that pulls you out of the story, but in a good way. It adds to the carm of it. I think the episodes are strangely fun and work well in their absurdity and I hope we get more series of these episodes because I think they just have room to grow.
Merlin, s1-3: The first three series of these episodes are just really good adventure family show. It has this fairytale vibe to it, which I really enjoy. They are never trying to be more than they are, although they sometimes rush through things, but I really do appreciate how light and fun this fantasy show full of adventure and magic is considering how dark and bold some of these new fantasy shows post-GOT all feel. I miss this sort of feel-good fantasy.
The Office, s1-4: It's taking me a while to get me through this show. I do not know if it's out of all these memes I've seen and I feel like I've already seen a lot of these jokes or if that humor isn't really my thing. I like it well enough and often have it on in the background but I am not often in the mood for it. I do not think they are that funny.
Crash Landing on You: I was was not that into this one. The characters were good and I found many things interesting about this drama, but the romance and just the story itself dragged on for such a long time. The episodes were some over an hour long and it did not have enough story for that. So towards the end I was really bored.
Alice in Boarderland: This was a real roller coaster ride and the story is something I espect more from a Japanese movies than dramas (though I may not have seen enough Jdramas). The story was fast and constantly surprising you. Really good, the story was so gripping and full of twists and interesting characters. Bloody and brutal, but in a good way.
Vincenzo: Vincenzo surprised me so much, but I was not expecting this entertainment when I started it. A strange mix of soap opera level drama, comedy and legal drama that works somehow so well together. Very colorful, wacky and fun characters, one of the most entertaining bad guys I have watched in a kdrama in a long time. I was always looking forward to watching the next episode and the story never seemed to drag or drop in intensity or action throughout it's run. Could well end up being my favorite drama of the year. Pure and simple entertainment that I will not easily forget.
Sisyphus: The Myth: I need to stop torturing myself through the Park Shin Hye drama just for Park Shin Hye. This drama had a really great idea behind it and it started of pretty well, but I thought the mystery in the episodes dragged on for a long time and just wasn't that well put together or that exciting to watch. This was more romance than science fiction and I was not feeling the romance here and I found the lead male character so boring.
Age of Samurai - Battle for Japan: At first I thought it would be a drama, but it turned out to be a documentary. Really interesting history which I really immersed myself in.
The Lost Pirate Kingdom: I felt like I knew about a lot of these events that this documentary talked about through the tv show Black Sails that it might have damaged the suspense a bit. Sometimes I felt like I was getting a really detailed recap of that show. Still quite fun.
Wandavision: It was just like I expected a Marvel tv show to be. It was great fun, great action and fun characters. The episodes take advantage of a slightly slower story that TV shows offer compared to movies, but still have this Marvel feel to them. Marvel knows its audience very well.
Lost Cities with Albert Lin: I got Disney+ and enjoyed so many of the documentaries that were on there. I loved learning about all the lost, secret treasures and cultures that history has to offer, that are almost hidden from modern view.
Lost Treasures of the Maya: Albert Lin has some great series on Disney + that are really fun to watch. He's almost like the modern Indiana Jones. I devoured his shows over the course of a few days.
Drain the Oceans: So much fun learning all that's hidden on the ocean floor. I did not watch all the episodes in this series, but I went between the episodes that had more to do with ancient history and things that I'm interested about.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: It went a slightly different route and had more to say than I honestly expected from a Marvel tv show. And while it did have a rather slow start it manage to say everything they needed and wanted to say and manage to build these characters well enough so that this origins story of the new Captain America is well set up and established for the next phase of Marvel cinema. It was very fun and exciting.
Navillera: really heartfelt show that truly did tug at my heartstrings every episode. The story is really emotional and sincere without being too sad or depressing. It never drags you down, but much rather gives you a bit of hope and wholesome vibes.
Not Yet Thirty: Very short but fun stories about three friends. The pacing wasn't the best, it felt a bit rushed, and I didn't think they divided the time between these friends that well, so parts of it felt underdeveloped and boring to watch.
Shadow and Bone: a rather traditional YA fantasy story and maybe a bit lacking in depth here because there was a lot going on and it only had eight episodes to tell it all. But the characters were really fun and there was always a lot of excitement going o.. And thanks to the Crows  there was always something that surprised me at every turn and it was just so fun how they wove it all together. Came out much better than I thought it would and I'm really excited for what's next.
Youth of May: I did not expect much from this drama at first, but it still surprised me how light it was, despite the Gwangju uprising being one of the topics it covered. The story got darker as time went on, but it never got too hard to watch or too sad. It was really well done and the despite how short it was compared to many other kdramas it never felt rushed or anything.
The shows I dropped:
Lovestruck in the City: The characters were just so boring, especially the male lead. And the format that the episodes were trying to have - almost like they were filming a documentary - just did not work for me.
Royal Secret Agent: I love period dramas and I find Myungsoo really cute. But there was just nothing really going on here and the story felt like it was trying to be more clever than it actually was and the characters didn't seem to be going through any type of character development. It was just kinda boring.
My Father is Strange: While cute and cozy, these types of stories aren't really my cup of tea. They just don't seem to hold my attention that well.
Beyound Evil: Might give them another chance, because even though I'm not very fond of crime and murder mysteries like this, I have heard almost nothing but praise for this drama and I'm a huge Yeo Jin Goo fan. The mystery didn't hook me that much though, but maybe I just didn't get far enough into it.
Doom at Your Service: I do not know what it is… but this kind of paranormal romance does not really work on me even though I love fantasy and I like rom-coms. I prefer ghosts and such to these immortal supernatural beings... unless it is the main female character who is supernatural and lonely. The romance of a immortal male and a human female just doesn't seem to work for me.
