Daniel's turning scene is my favorite in all of canon tied with Armand's, and the parallels make me scream!

Both of them dying from some sort of poison (Daniel, alcohol; Armand, literal poison). Both of them finally having worn down a maker that wasn't ready to make them quite yet but their clocks were running out.

Even parts of the phrasing where Marius and Armand ask for the final consent to seal the fate of their young lovers (Daniel is young compared to a five hundred year old Armand, don't @ me) sound remarkably similar.

TVA:

"Very well, beautiful one. This is the moment. Would you come with me, and be like me?" His [Marius'] voice was rich and soothing, though it was full of pain.

"Yes, always and forever yours."

"Forever to thrive in secret on the blood of the evildoer, as I thrive, and to abide with these secrets until the end of the world, if need be."

Except Armand to Daniel sees the Dark Gift as the ultimate condemnation, whereas Marius to Amadeo presents it as a world full of new possibilities—even though he himself is hurting.

The first time Marius sees or learns of Daniel, Armand's one and only fledgling, he uses the words "drunken, intoxicated" and "lacks common sense." Not a great first impression! If this were a job interview, Daniel would not be hired! Marius is not impressed! Although he does concede Armand's strong blood means that Daniel has a good start on the road to vampiring:

"A little laugh greeted him, friendly, unobtrusive; a little drunken maybe, the laugh of a fledgling who lacked common sense. He smiled in acknowledgment, darting a glance at the amused one, Daniel. Daniel the anonymous "boy" of Interview with the Vampire. It hit him quickly that this was Armand's child, the only child Armand had ever made. A good start on the Devil's Road this creature had, this exuberant and intoxicated being, strengthened with all that Armand had to give."

Marius is ecstatic and overjoyed to be reunited with Armand, and has no bitterness for their time apart (Armand may feel differently but seems pretty relieved to see him in the moment - there may be some things they need to work out but both of them are clearly glad to see each other again).

And then it's, who is this boisterous boy laughing? You have a fledgling! And... he is a giggling mess, drunk on being new in the blood. How... great for you. Oh, he kicked off this whole thing, huh? This guy? With the interview? I see. Well, he has...uh... strong blood. Let's... uh... see who else is here, shall we?

Just so funny. Poor Daniel is probably so excited to meet Marius (from Lestat's book!!!) and the man who sired Armand, and Marius basically dismisses him as being a giddy and overly-animated newbie.

Remembering when Armand was dying in TVA and Marius spoke about how beautiful his corpse would be... 🫢🥹

"It's not my time," I said. "I know it. And such a statement cannot be undone by a mere handful of hours. Smash the ticking clock. They meant, by a soul's incarnate life, it wasn't time. Some destiny carved in my infant hand will not be so soon fulfilled or easily defeated."

"I can tip the odds, my child," he said. This time his lips moved. The pale sweet coral brightened in his face, and his eyes grew wide and unguarded, the old self I knew and cherished. "I can so easily take the last strength left in you." He leant over me. I saw the tiny variegations in the pupils of his eyes, the bright deep-pointed stars behind the darkening irises. His lips, so wondrously decorated with all the tiny lines of human lips, were rosy as if a human kiss resided there. "I can so easily take one last fatal drink of your child's blood, one last quaff of all the freshness I so love, and in my arms I'll hold a corpse so rich in beauty that all who see it will weep, and that corpse will tell me nothing."

I think a lot of the time it gets lost in the sauce how much TVA was explicitly intended to be a monsterfucking story, and I really, really love when those uncanny valley moments creep through. And to Armand — it's incredibly erotic! And for me the eerie, other factor is amplified by the fact that it is not eerie to Armand. He doesn't have the prey response that he should in reaction to something that his consciousness clearly recognizes is an imitation of a human.

Lips rosy as if a human's kiss still resided there! Child's blood! A corpse rich in beauty! Marius can tip the odds in death's favor!

There's so many peak Gothic Horror elements in TVA that I think get overlooked when in actuality it's such an evocative tale that leans into a lot of the classic vampire tropes — amongst others.

An alternate universe retelling of the Devil's Minion wherein Daniel sold his soul to the Devil for notoriety as a writer. Now, fifteen years later, Armand is the fallen angel who has come to collect it. Enraptured by the manuscript Daniel has yet to complete, Armand extends him an offer of borrowed time to finish it under his watchful eye.

Chapter 4 Excerpt:

And how could he not thaw like honey on a sun-dappled window sill? How could he not melt into the impossible luxury of this warmth? Why resist it - why should a sinner resist anything? Has the price not been paid, to serve in Hell, free of all carnal debt? Free to indulge?

The crook of Daniel’s throat moved against Armand’s shoulder blade, his would-be wings, as he eased back into the rhythmic flow of sleep with a soft swallow, the little hum of contentment that came after. The raw unfettered humanity of it loosened something in him that had once felt constrictive and tight. Something he didn’t realize he’d been holding onto, something like a rigging which spitefully holds back faster, lacerates the skin until it’s released.

For the moment, he let it go. And he was a student once more, an aspiring scholar of this mortal’s breath and skin.

Comforting vampire thoughts: As they navigate post Blood Communion reunion and get their relationship on an equal footing. Picture this - instead of the usual Marius carrying Armand. Armand carrying Marius. Possibly bridal style or levitating to aid progress. I'd imagine fire man's hold would be awkward as Marius is so tall.

And it makes sense, if Marius is trying to sulk and brood on his own instead of coming to bed, is Mr. Breaks-Dowm-Doors-With-Axes-When-Feeling-Ignored Armand *not* supposed to take matters into his own hands? Of course he's going to scoop that stubborn Roman up! No matter how impractical it is!
