Someone on Twitter was surprised/confused by the Disassembly/Murder Drones' very large wingspan, but actually, this is a stroke of realism as this is consistent with giant soaring species from real life. The bigger you're overall body size/weight, your wings must be proportionally larger to compensate. Allow me to elaborate further on this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now upon first hearing that, one might suggest the Murder Drones' wings should be even larger since they're robots and are probably heavier than organic life. But this isn't true cause Worker Drones are extremely light seeing as Tessa can easily carry them, Murder Drones are clearly much larger perhaps 2-4xs the weight but likely not much heavier than a human judging by the physics presented.
Tumblr media
There are many benefits to being gigantic fliers over other types of flight. For one it is perhaps the move efficent form of long distance travel in nature; the wing's surface area generates a lot of lift/power, the mass of the body means gives them with stability and a resistance against the elements. This means they can fly at great heights and travels massive distances on few and shallow wingbeats for extended while burning next to no energy. The benefits this has for Disassembly Drones should be obvious regarding the "nature" of their being. And despite the robots clearily staying afloft at least partially by artifical means such as hovering, it's clear the huge wings are still mandatory to achieve.
Ofcourse there are other benefits to this form travel such as spotting and getting the drop on unsuspecting prey, quite literally in this case. While they aren't as heavily armed as the machines, being a giant flier requires a lot nutrients, something plants can't provide without being a detriment to flying ability at this scale. So that only left meat on the table and therefore all truly large soaring animals are carnviores. Now there are steamrolling to this, as flying means they sweep through numerous areas effectively and burning relatively little energy between visits. Allowing them to binge on many small meals or a single large one and rest it off in a high place where enemies cannot reach them,(although adults tend not to have any predators).
Tumblr media
Ofcourse this is mostly speculative and I don't believe Liam or Glitch thought this hard about extinct birds and pterosaurs to explain wings meant mostly to look cool/scary while also stabbing/blocking things. But it's fun when interesting elements in a world actually fits in with reality as it grounds the fiction, making the world more emersive.
P.S. To any artists making MD OCs larger than the characters, go wild.

The gentlemen's featherless theropods, in front Argentavis, followed by Therizinosaurus, Gigantoraptor and Utahraptor.
Often we reconstruct them by default with feathers to some degree, this was mostly done in this way because I wanted to understand better their anatomy, they all are plucked.

Avemetatarsalia: the group that includes Pterosaurs and Dinosaurs
As per usual, you have everything you need to care for the animal and are completely prepared. The animal will not eat you and will be your companion. Yes, even the Azhdarchids. If you can ride a T. rex into traffic, you can ride a Quetzalcoatlus into the clouds.
I had to extend beyond dinosaurs for this poll because, unfortunately, most flying birds aren't quite big enough, and also, I know we all want to ride pterosaurs.
Assume all options can hold your weight because I'm not sure any could and this is just for fun

The Andalgalornis was running. And for a good reason. His foe, an Argentavis, was swooping down from the heavens, driving him away from a carcass. The terror bird dared not challenge the giant, so he ran. He could find a safer place to eat somewhere else.
The Argentavis was taller than him, and he was 1.5 metres tall! And the Argentavis had enormous wings, giving him a six metre wingspan. And the giant was charging at him, wings outstretched. A terrifying sight even for the biggest of terror birds.
The Argentavis, on the other hand, wanted to drive the terror bird off for a good reason. His chicks were hungry, as was he. He needed lots of food, which a carcass would provide. Terror birds were a fierce competitor, and soon the carcass would swarm with other Argentavis. So best to drive off the others now, so he could fill his crop in peace.

National Fossil: Argentina
For “season 2“ we‘re moving to South America, more precisely to Argentina, which has lots of fossils to offer.
Once again, you get to vote on which one should represent the nation. As always, it could be a fossil that is just exceptionally well preserved and beautiful, had a huge impact on paleontology and our knowledge of the past, is very common/representative of the area, is beloved and famous in the public eye, is just a very unique and interesting find, or has any other justification.
Here are the options:
Tumblr media
Argentinosaurus: The first contestant is one of the biggest land animals of all time with a length of more than 30 m and a weight of 80 t or more. It‘s also very fittingly named after the country.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carnotaurus: Next up is the carnivorous dinosaur Carnotaurus. Only one skeleton has ever been found, but it was so well preserved, that Carnotaurus still is one of the best understood theropod dinosaurs of the Southern hemisphere. It‘s a fan favorite movie star, with roles ranging from the dorky dancer of Prehistoric Planet all the way to the main villain of Dinsey‘s Dinosaur (Art by Fred Wierum)
Tumblr media
Eoraptor: while Argentina has some of the biggest dinosaurs ever to offer, it is also well known for some of the earliest ones. The small Triassic Eoraptor and some of its Argentinian cousins are very important for our understanding of the evolution of dinosaurs as a whole
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kelenken: One of my favorite groups of South American animals are the terror birds, giant predatory flightless birds that make it very clear that birds are in fact dinosaurs. The biggest one of them was 3 m tall Kelenken, known from some leg bones and the skull. It lived during the Miocene about 15 million years ago (Art by Julio Lacerda)
Tumblr media
Argentavis: If one giant Miocene bird is not enough for you, Argentina also offers you Argentavis. While it maybe wasn‘t the biggest flying bird in terms of wingspan, it most likely was the heaviest one (more than 70 kg; for comparison, the heaviest flying bird today weighs about 20 kg) (Art by Fabio Alejandro)
Tumblr media
Fasolasuchus: If you‘re really not a fan of dinosaurs (including birds), maybe I can interest you in the crocodile-site of the Archosaur family tree: Fasolasuchus was an distantly-related triassic cousin of our modern crocodiles and it was the biggest terrestrial predator of its time; the only carnivores to ever surpass it were the biggest theropod dinosaurs
Tumblr media
Arctotherium: South America is home to many bizarre mammals, but most of them I want to reserve for other countries. Still, here is one mammal option for y‘all: Arctotherium, the giant short-faced bear. The biggest species of them lived in Argentina and they were probably the biggest bear ever (maybe up to 1500 kg and more). (Illustration by Soibelzon, Schubert 2011)

Argentavis was probably the largest bird ever to fly by a large margin, possably being twice as large as the second largest bird, paleogornis. This video answers questions like, how was such a large question able to get into the air? what did they eat? and how did they get so big?

The Tames of Nublar
Here you have some of the tames of The Survivors of Nublar, not all that they have, I will show others later. All of the beasts drawn are inspired by my own dinos in ARK, as are almost all of the tamed dinosaurs that appear in the story.
For now I only drew the favorite dinosaur of each one and the two most important ones from chapter 5.
I'm sorry I couldn't draw the Tapejara the pterosaurs are something I've never been able to draw, and although I tried for days there was no way.

pelagornis doing a big dive! pelagornis has the largest wingspan ever doscovered wich i think is super impressive, but it often gets overshadowed by the other super big prehistoric bird argentavis. I love albatrosses and knowing there was a albatross-like bird (their related to pelicans weirdly) that was double the size is so cool.
Little edit: it had the largest wingspan of a *bird* pretty sure quetzalcotus and other pterosaurs had a bigger wingspan lol
